  • An ongoing interfaith collaboration in the United Arab Emirates is now blessing some of the workers who are helping to build the rapidly growing city of Dubai. The Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, a Sikh Temple, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined together on January 16, 2022, to distribute water flasks as a thank you to 5,000 workers.
“We partnered with The Church of Jesus Christ. We are here today; every year we do a humanitarian act where we are supporting the needy,” said Dr. Surender Kandhari, chairman of the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara.
The service project was part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, which is the largest in the Gulf region and hosts over 50,000 devotees in the UAE. The gurudwara offers the daily Sikh tradition of langar, a free vegetarian meal, to anyone who walks through its doors. Since its opening in 2012, the gurudwara in Dubai has served free meals to over eight million visitors.

I have so much respect for the kindness and generosity of the Sikhs! I can’t imagine serving that many meals each week! They live their faith through their acts of service. Great collaboration between the members of the Sikh faith and the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hope to see more!

I was in Dubai last year. What a loving, gentle, giving people.
Yes, we have more in common than differences in our beliefs.

'When you give of yourself, is when you actually give!' - what a fantastic statement. Isn't it wonderful to see the church working with those you share the same values of service and love for one's neighbor!

We are all the children of one God. I love this true statement. I am grateful for the diversity of all people of the world. We are each blessed with a gift, and we all have something to give. Gratitude is the key to love. May we love the goodness in all... not just some.

It's things like this that warm my heart and make me wonder why seeing each other as human beings isn't more common. Sure, we may have different beliefs, but that's part of agency, and I wouldn't take that right away. What's more important is that we are all *people*. Similar emotions, similar hearts. I don't believe that many but the devil himself and his followers in the spirit realm are truly evil. Those who are truly evil on this earth are few.

5,000 flasks and shirts to workers to be exact. I was there in that service project. Flasks mean a lot to these people because many of them are construction workers and we know how hot Dubai can become in the summer.

How do UAE citizens enjoy tolerance? I suspect they don’t. I suspect they’re not allowed to convert to whatever religion or to not believe, as their conscience may dictate. I believe they would be persecuted and even face death if they choose to leave Islam. So forgive me for not being so optimistic about religious freedoms of foreigners in the UAE. A good development, to be sure, but still far from the goal.

The Emirati people love Islam as much as their love for their country and culture. It is part of the culture, so they do not change their religion!

Brad Wilcox recently told youths in a church talk in Utah that all other religions are only playing at religion, while the LDS church is actually doing it. Really great stuff from the LDS church supposedly led by Jesus 🙄

How is this virtue signaling? Virtue signaling is not the same thing as spreading a message promoting service and respect toward those different from us. To call this virtue signaling is more or less denying the teachings of Christ when he taught us not to offend others who are different.
