I finally got some Traxxas batteries for my E Revo 2.0 to replace my Venoms after changing my mind about Traxxas batteries. These 50c burst Traxxas batteries really put in some work.

Traxxas ID chargers and batteries offer the simplest user experience in the market for lipo charging thats a fact, and after 20 years dealing with lipos, trying the traxxas chargers and batteries for the first time was like WOW, I ain't coming back to balance cables, correct balance port, playing the cashier simulator pressing buttons and inputting settings in the standard chargers-
About the miss conception of C rating It all comes down to the fact that there is no industry standard for C rating; as a manufacturer I can label my lipos as having 300C…
I have literally tested the traxxas against some fancy graphene 80/160C lipos and there was 0 difference in performance...

I know this probably doesn’t mean much, but I just got into the hobby, bought the E-REVO because of your videos, & I’ve used the Traxxas batteries from the start. I just love the convenience of their batteries & that dual link charger. It charges them in like 30 minutes & I can get about 45 mins - 1 hour of run time on my E-REVO with the Traxxas batteries. I totally agree! Me and my son have a BRUSHED Mini e-Revo each, and the small 2200ah Traxxas Batteries. They make Wheelys all day long if you want, even though they´re "only" the brushed versions.
Another great benefit for me is the ID Connector. For an Adult it should be no Problem to set the charge rate right on a common charger, but it makes me sleep well to know that my 7yo son won't accidentally burn down the house by setting it wrong! This alone was worth it for me to pay 10€ more than a compareable aftermarket batterie would cost!

Just a comfortable, ergonomic plug with all the necessary power and balancing wires neatly integrated and safe from accidental damage. I’m using some old 4S 6700MAH Traxxas lipo’s. I charge them with a Traxxas EZ peak Live Dual charger. When I first got my X-Maxx these batteries were included used. I was getting the random voltage error thing. I ran the batteries, and storage charged them. It has totally fixed the problem! They are well worn Traxxas 4S 6700 packs too. My X-Maxx is a beast too. I love these batteries. I’m considering new batteries solely for cosmetic reasons. Mine are not as pretty lol. But outside of the label peeling on the end, and plastic housing, they work so amazing! I never had a problem with Traxxas branded lipos. Of course I only run them in my UDR and up until a few weeks ago in my TRX4. They are expensive when compared to other brands, but it's a direct fit for the UDR. I've got Traxxas, Admiral, Power hobby, and Venom lipos. The only ones I've had a problem with is the Power hobby. They aren't really all that old. Maybe 8 months max, but they are already puffing and the outer skin/shell layer has been cracking and peeling off after a week. They are 6000 mAh and 100c. I bought them for my Losi LST 3XLE and strictly run them in that. I very much doubt they are true 100c because the ESC on the 3X isn't that high of an amp draw. That being said, the 3X will do a standing double backflip with only the front diff oil in 500k as far as drivetrain changes go. I've never run anything else in my 3X yet, but the power hobby lipos get pretty hot. I think last time I checked they were 115°. Now I've also got a Super Rock Rey that runs 8s. Two 5000 mAh 50c that doesn't get hot. I'm pretty sure, not 100% that the 3X is 150 amp and the SRR is definitely 160 amp. The batteries in the SRR stay very cool and that thing has a LOT more power and amp draw than the 3X. It's a low CG rock bouncer that weighs a little more than the X-Maxx and still pulls wheelies if that gives you any idea. Anyways before I get off topic. I do try to run batteries the manufacturer recommends, not because of price, but because of as you said the calibration of the ESC. I really like the Admiral batteries and have been perfectly balanced, powerful, stay cool and are reliable but are hard to find for RCs like my 3XLE. I did find Lectron Pro 7600 75c that fits perfectly but haven't yet bought them. As I type this, I've only got 1 RC that runs Traxxas lipos, most others are EC5/IC5, EC3 or don't run lipos at all. My old Summit (which will be upgraded with a Castle Mamba Monster 2) only is able to run Nihm without external lipo alarms and my Revo 3.3 only runs a tiny Nihm to work the throttle and steering servos. My TRX4 is now running XT60 with the Hobbywing Axe 550 in it.

I have a lot of quick fixes, but my favorite and cheap one is to cut small squares of low density packing foam, like you would find in some new battery boxes, no styrofoam, and put them on the base of the body post. The main reason I havent used Traxxas batteries in a long time is price. I know they are great packs, but often twice as much as others. For example right now I am running Ovonic 4s 4500mah 50c packs in my Maxx. I paid about $70 for a pair. Before the Maxx I was using these on my Outcast 4s and have had no issues at all. As of right now one Traxxas 4s 5000 is about $120. I can get 3 other 4s packs for that price. I know they wont be as good, but its 3 to 1. Anyway thats my thoughts on them.

You should do this with a data logging esc. I think the issue with cheaper batteries is voltage sag... you gun it and the voltage drops... if resistance is constant then ohms law says current will drop with voltage (v=i*r). Current = torque and voltage = rpm so you’re losing rpm and torque with voltage sag and your old batteries are behaving like a discharged new battery.

I think the comparison is not apples to apples. The continuous rate on the Traxxas is 25C and burst is 50C. On the Venom continuous is 35C and burst is 70C (I checked their website before posting). The extra C means nothing if you are not drawing that current therefore on stock the E-Revo 2.0 needs 25C, if you provide it with a battery capable of 35C it will still only take 25C, the rest is headroom.
Where you have higher demand than the battery can supply is when you get brownouts. All in all, too little is bad, too much doesnt hurt but is money down the drain (especially if you are buying expensive batteries)
That said, HUGE fan of your channel, keep up the good work!

RCtalk has a thread on battery testing with a ton of data. Most packs on the market, regardless of C rating actually test out to about 25c, including traxxas batteries. So, they’re not actually lower than most packs on the market, traxxas is actually being honest about their discharge rates while lots of popular packs are grossly over exaggerating their discharge rates. So most people are likely only running 25c packs anyways 🤷‍♂️
AFAIK there’s one or two manufacturers that he’s tested, where the C rating is as high as they are claiming. I like my traxxas batteries, I know they fit in the vehicle I’m running and they’ve never given me an issue. I continually get more run time than higher capacity lectron pro packs with my “weak and inferior traxxas packs” and all the while they consistently stay cooler and don’t trip the LVC under heavy load.

Running lower cell burst capacity batteries won't burn up the esc. The drain on the batteries will cause the esc to go into low voltage mode which protects the batteries.

MaxxAmps makes some really good batteries if you're going to get the expensive batteries you might give maxxamps batteries a go. They make them to fit most popular vehicles well and they usually are 100C discharge.

  • @Jeroen-Engelgeer

Correct me if i'm wrong, but unless those Traxxas batteries are a new type, they have always been 25c with a BURST of 50c. The Venom one with 35c is probably also continues and then has a BURST of 70c wich is better then the Traxxas. I now use Gens Ace with 50c and a burst of 100c. The batteries for the 1/16 VXL series don't puff because that system isn't that power hungry probably. (The 25c 1400Mah, 3s and 2200Mah, 2s) But i bought 3 Traxxas batteries for my 1/10 Stampede 4x4 VXL TSM, and they all started puffing from the first rides. I always treated them well, putting them in storage the same day of use, etc. Especially the 4x4 VXL system asks a lot of the battery and 25c of the Traxxas batteries just isn't enough and makes them puff. No problems with the Gens Ace, they are very consisting, also with charging times. When the Traxxas batteries are puffed, they also have inconsisting charging times because they don't balance that well anymore. Yes, i still use them, but always watch them carefully. They still fit the battery compartment, although tighter. One of them i only use for working on the car and testing.

Burst c rating and regular c rating are different. A standard c rating should be sustainable. Burst just means it can hit that current for a moment. The issue is all manufactures use different criteria for rating and most manufacturers outright lie. Unfortunately c ratings don't really mean a lot.

    • @dirtrider88
      @dirtrider88 ปีที่แล้ว

how do manufacturers use different "criteria" for a c rating? its a measurement of how fast it can discharge, its a math equation. thats like saying manufactures use different criteria for measuring 6 inches.

@@dirtrider88 they lie. There's no standard for if it's sustained, burst what's burst means, measure how or where etc so most is the number are made up.

C rating is a sales gimmick in most case scenarios. (I have 2 Traxxas 6700mah batteries that only have 25c)

Both batteries must be the same. It sounds like your 50c battery discharged at a faster rate and went below it’s lower limit. That pretty much ruins a Lipo. You might be able to get it to charge by putting it on a NiMH charge for a few minutes. Try that. Only charge it for a short time. Then try to charge it on your Traxxas charger. If that does. Not work, then the battery is probably bad
