I use unappetizing fish for oil and unappetizing shellfish for ichor. When cooked, the latter gives ichor as a by-product. On the plus side, they both use the same bait: common insects that are harvested easily by scything plants. Regarding the gruesome chest, something else that can be done is throw in the non-greater animals that one inevitably squires while trying to gain a greater version of said animal. Kinda sad, but, yeah, these animals can be pressed to obtain products. I have not yet done this, so I do not know what items are acquired, but I assume it would be akin to the baby counter-part.
That's a good way of doing it! For the animal recycle you're right on thinking so, It will usually be a combination of blood/bone and then a bi-product (Unless it's something like the rocknose or bugs)

"Elephants are a pain to kill." This is why people that only uses the command console to spawn things shouldn't do youtube videos. You give wrong information to the players. Also, you cannot get ichor from unappetizing fish anymore. To kill elephants easily, use a Sand Reaper Queen. Her hitbox is low and low, and the elephant CANNOT TOUCH HER so you can just count clouds while she kills the elephants.
Look at the release date of the video ffs. Just because that information might be relevant now doesn't mean it was when this was released. And before you question why is the video still up, there is still plenty of relevant information here. also console is on a different version.

For some reason my fluid press is being picky? It doesn’t want to convert the putrid meat or animal heads but it works for the berries

I have noticed recently that if I drink more than one or two berry pulps, my character gets sick and falls unconscious... Any idea on why this is?
I haven't experienced this yet, how odd. I'll be sure to indulge in a lot of pulp though to test it out
