Yes “Purple Rain” same notes the song might not have happened without a little cooperation from the members of Journey. Prince was concerned and notified Journey.... I don’t want you to sue me.” but After listening, Cain says, “I thought it was an amazing tune, and I told him, ‘Man, I’m just super-flattered that you even called. It shows you’re that classy of a guy. Good luck with the song. I know it’s gonna be a hit.’
Thanks for this...! Cool fun fact.
Thanks for sharing never heard that before love both of them.
Class on both sides. RIP Prince.
Michael Jackson also contacted them because he was afrais that some parts of Bily Jean were reminiscent of another Journey song.
Damn, I had to delete my comment about the Purple Rain connection! You stole my thunder!!😂😂😂😂😂
"LOVIN TOUCHIN SQUEEZIN".....!
Yes! Live in Houston 1981. Saw them on that tour in 1982.
Na na na na na na na... etc
There's also a nice R&B acoustic cover of "Lovin, Touching, Squeezing" by Morgan James (woman) and Ryan Shaw.

Loving Jonathan (piano/keyboards) playing with Neil in the guitar… then Steve’s voice comes in and the teaser drums. Nobody delivers a love Ballot like Steve and Journey!
One of the greatest voices in rock ballad history!
The best vocalist in all of rock- just my opinion. The range, expressiveness, songwriting ability, etc ❤ And he’s best singing live!
Prince actually called journey and played it for them to make sure they didn't have a problem with it...they said they dint..and wished him luck with it👍
I met Steve Perry at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta when I was 17. My young girl heart was beating fast! I still have the autograph. He is the nicest person. I’ve seen Journey a few times and they never disappointed. Always a great show.
Journey was before Prince, late 70's.
To watch him sing this live is incredible. He makes it look like he is putting in zero effort, yet he is belting out the notes so loud and clear.
Steve Perry's voice is simply a thing of beauty. And so is this song.💙
More Journey please. Can't go wrong with them.💙💫
Steve Perry’s vocals on Wheel in the sky Osaka is a MUST. Dude flexes as he should. ❤
Wheel in the Sky is such a great song.
The Osaka concert version of Wheel in the Sky is one of my favorites. 🎶
"ANYTIME/FEELING THAT WAY"....! (played together)
I made the same comment on the last Journey track they posted. Fingers crossed...its my all time favorite song/songs by the band.
@@michaelfried3123 For sure...!
Journey's '81 concert in Houston is worth a listen. It's amazing that this song is darn near identical live.
I could listen to Steve Perry sing all day long.
A couple years ago my local christen radio station meant to play a religious song called Faithfully but brought up this song by mistake. Callers wanting to know who was singing this blew up their phone lines.
You couldn't get away from Journey back in those days
“Faithfully” was a huge hit for them. Journey started as a project offshoot with two members from Santana. The guitar gunslinger from San Fran hired at age 15, Neal Schon, (played Woodstock with Carlos) along with Hammond Organ, Piano and first vocalist Greg Rollie along with original drummer Ansley Dunbar recorded a couple of records that were mostly instrumental. Then here’s the second iteration of the group adding Steve Perry on vocals and Steve Smith on drums. There’s a great duet with Greg and Steve, called “Just The Way You Love Me,” before Greg left Journey (in good hands btw), replaced by former Baby’s pianist/songwriter Johnathan Cain. Steve Perrys’ vocal high wire act with Neal’s guitar shredding has created quite a healthy catalog. The “Frontiers” album has some heavier slammin tunes. Like Zeppelin, you could do their discography and not be disappointed at all. Try the Official videos of “When You Love A Woman,” (made to look like an in studio performance) and Official concert and album version of “Girl Can’t Help It.” The harmony’s are insane!
@@Rock_Snob Thanks for the correction. 👈😎
@@Rock_Snob Wow! Mind blown just thinking of the possibilities. One of my favorite solo projects from Neal is the album, “I on U.” The solo and outro on the song “Father” is one of many high points on a really great instrumental LP. I’m glad I saw him at different times in his career. Would have loved seeing him playing as a teen, don’t know if there’s anything on tape or TH-cam to checkout?
With a fantastic vocalist like Steve Perry, the records HAVE to be huge! Thanks for your reaction.
The live version will melt your face. I saw them multiple times in the 80’s….so pitch accurate- not at an easy range and he’s doing gymnastics vocally. ❤️🎶❤️
Hard to believe this beautiful song is 40 years old this year! This song came out before Purple Rain. In fact, Prince contacted Journey because he was worried Purple Rain sounded too much like Faithfully. Jon Cain keyboards for Journey wished him well with the song Purple Rain. Saw Journey live in 1983. I remember Steve Perry singing this song. He sounded even better live. Journey On.
That voice ❤
Y'all gotta check out
"Just The Same Way"
(The official music video)
Such nostalgia, reminds me of roller skating in eighth grade.
Best vocal ever ❤
I saw Journey and what an INCREDIBLE show! Steve was a ball of fire running up and down ramps all night. Not to mention his VOICE ..
Side note...my first husband was luring me from my first love (rock & roll) into country. ( Gotta admit Emmylou Harris sings like an angel) but the first time I heard Steve Perry's voice, that DID IT for me. I was like, " Who IS that guy?????" Haven't looked back. Took a few detours...RIP, Jimmy Buffett...Jackson Browne. ( He is still living!) I can't think of all the good ones. Even love me some bluegrass. But my heart still belongs to R&R.
Steve Perry’s voice and neil Schons guitar work amazing combo
Live Journey songs from 1981 Houston Concert is the way to go. "Mother Father" Live is the one to check out. Iconic performance
Was not into them then but I knew they were a real band. I did like this song and right now in 2023 I have a number of their songs on my Spotify. Ran some just yesterday on my way home from work. Send Her My Love is a good one.
Lights greatest Journey song. The man can sing.🎵🎼🎶🎸👍
You miss so much by not watching Journey live. The emotion is outstanding by all members.
was so perfect for the time back then, and still shines to me...
You guys have a really great friendship and communication, your reactions are genuine and expressive, you’re picking some great tracks, this channel is going to get bigger and bigger. You two and Rob Squad are the best. And Polo Reacts, he’s great, too.
Purple Rain came out in 1984, while Faithfully came out in 1983. Similar in sound but stylized different. Loved your reaction. Thanks.
“Stone In Love” or
“Who’s Crying Now”
Their two best, IMHO
How could you not hear this? It's been everywhere and back. Keep rocking, Bros.
The close out of this song with Steve Perry and Neil Schon playing a solo behind Steve Perry is an all timer!
I like and appreciate you guys ! .. Your to the point and short and sweet.
Definitely a big hit for them. Great lyrics, sung beautifully ….and yes, the brother can sing…..and the band ain’t half bad ….kinda worn thin on FM but all that said…ohhhh and it is very much like Purple Rain! Excellent catch…why y’all are so damn good!
When engineers , could capture a bands essence.
"Lights" is just as good!!
Boy! Steve was exposing his soul on this one, wow... what a voice and what lyrics. Here's another song from the same album, if interested. "Journey - Separate Ways (Live In Tokyo 1983) HQ" This was great thanks so much
❤❤❤❤. Watch the music videos guys. It was on MTV heavy rotation for years! BTW, Steve Perry was sitting behind me at the Hollywood Bowl a few weeks ago. Always a class act.
I remember in 1979 Steve Perry was now in the band and me and a friend saw them live at the Rainbow in Denver for 5 bucks, I was blown away been a big fan since, But after Steve left for me it was then end. I still have all the albums with Steve on Vocals!
Steve Perry. "Oh Sherrie" is a must!
Ahhhhhh. One of the top ten lead vocalist of all time. My top five. Thanks guys.
Check out Sweet & Simple. Really soulful. Journey came out 1st. Prince sent his track to Journey to make sure they were good with it, since it was so similar. Journey gave Prince the ok to go with his song.
What a voice.
Another in a long list of classic Journey tracks.
Do a few from their Escape Tour……Houston 1981….OPEN ARMS AND DONT STOP BELIEVIN’…..the video of this one is awesome with concert clips…..
Everybody focuses on the the vocals, especially at the end but at the end Neil Schons playing in sync with Perry is amazing!!!
Great song, great album, great group, great concert! In 1983 I was a junior in high school, great music from the early 80's!
Hello fellow 1984 graduate. Wasn’t things much better in regards to high school back then? Not all of these agendas and crazy stuff. I thought everybody got along pretty well.
@GS-xt8fu I totally agree! On this particular tour The Outfield opened for them! I started appreciating and liking music back in 1976, so I was introduced to the first Boston album, Chicago 2, Styx Grand Illusion, Toto 1 and Hydra, Journey Departure, Little River Band Sleeper Catcher, Kansas Leftoverture, and more! How about you?
Maybe...Just maybe...The greatest voice in Rock!
I don't care for many reactors. I like you guys. Honesty always works well.
Journey was my first concert around 82 in NJ. Their first huge ballad was "Open Arms" from "Escape" album. The title track "Escape" from that album of the same name might be my favorite song of theirs.
It’s why they call him “The Voice!”
Journey "Lights"...Nuff Said.
Journey was such a Powerhouse Band in the late 70's on into the 80's. Check out "Just the same Way & Feelin that way " Steve Perry shared vocals with Greg Rolie. They were awesome together !!!
Faithfully was released about 1 and 1/3 years before Purple Rain.
If you’re Married and in love it grabs a won’t let go!!’
Still They Ride is one of the best Journey songs imao.
Have to do a live! Steve Perry is incredible live, sounds just like or if not better live.
Neal Schon genius on guitar and Steve 'The Voice" Perry- classic!- next Journey should be "Wheel in the Sky"
❤
That is the perfect love song! After noting the similar ending to Prince’s Purple Rain, I was able to hear it as well. Good observation and great reaction!
I’m loving this channel! I think it’s cool you guys are so open to exploring all different genres! I feel like I could talk about music for hours with you. I’ve got so many songs I want you to check out I think you would love. If you get a chance would you please do a video for Prince’s song “The Cross”. Keep it up- you guys are killing it!
Gotta watch a live version or at least the music video.
I saw them in May of 1983 at the Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, NJ with Bryan Adams opening for them.
I think this came first, Prince got in touch wuth Steve and Jonathan and said he had written a song, Purple Rain, and it sounded like this but he wasn't ripping them off.
I saw them may 5th 1983 at Brendan Byrne Arena with relatively unknown guy named Bryan Adams opening.
@@jfcardello actually it was May, saw them there in May of '82 for the Escape tour too
The music video is fire….live concert video and behind the scenes….
For rock and roll ballads, yeah. Rock and roll ballads? State. Stay pay he had to pay the king especially a just at his time. I wanna rock and roll ballad's havis havis layman they ma'am
They're old when I first came out. I was already a good band and then I got Steve Perry. You can go back to some of the first stuff and it's amazing anytime anyway. The song's called anytime and. Anytime by journey journey doing. That's Dave My old keyboard is going. It's 2 people singing, stay Van, somebody else. Amazing, it's amazing, it's amazing anytime. Anytime by journey
I'll be all right without you
I'll be all right. I'll be all right without you, that's a song. It's journey, do the live version, the love LIVE. It's in texas, it's good, that's really good
I never thought of it as a Prince song. But holy shit, it is.
Ahhh, takes me back to my Shotgun Willy's days, over 40 years ago, Pepper, Rochelle, Vicki and others, all so friendly
Check out journey songs like
Edge of the blade,
Sweet and simple,
Lay it down,
Lovin touchin squeezin,
Mother father,
After the fall,
Suzanne,
Troubled child,
Dead or Alive,
La do da,
Still thet Ride.
All awesome journey hits.😎🎵🎸👌
As you said Faithfully was released in 1983 and Purple Rain was 1984 so, very close to one another. I was 23 and 24 respectively and had just graduated from college when these came out.
You should see this brother do it live! This song 83, purple rain 84…
Journey came out first Steve Perry is the voice ❤ check out escape tour 1981 in Houston live you will be blown away
Very Very talented band😮
as the 70s went, top 40 "bubblegum"....late 60s thru most of the 70s...greatest era in music, super groups and individuals, this group is a sound that they cant compare with what preceeded them the last 10--15 yrs......
I highly recommend checking out early Journey, first song on the first album, "OF a Lifetime". No Steve Perry yet, but it's a completely different band, it's like early Fleetwood Mac to later Fleetwood Mac, or early Chicago to later Chicago.
Patty-I would like to suggest No Erasin from his last solo album Traces. Also , as a side note, he was 70 yrs old when this song was released.
Che, from the look on your face within the first minute it seems like you were on your way to another place entirely!
Another good one is Sweet and Simple no video for that one though. By the way Steve just won the Billboards poll for Favorite Rock Singer 😁
This song speaks to any man who works on the road for a living at least a good part of the year. Especially musicians like Cain, who wrote this song about missing his wife.
Journey had 2 lead singers back then. Steve Perry and Neil Schons guitar
I want you to listen to all his rock songs performed live.. you'll find his voice very amazing
Journey -Faithfully (1983)
Prince - Purple Rain (1984)
🔥❤️🔥❤️🎸🔥❤️🔥❤️
Wheel in the Sky is a banger
Journey is even better live. Do this song, Don't Stop Believing, or anything from the Houston concert. Epic
1984 Prom and my first girlfriend .. oh the memories
Somehow, I’d never connected the similarities between Faithfully and Purple Rain! Great call out!🖖🏼
This is a great love song Bros... I fuck with it ( as Stevie Knight, another reactor says.) For those who don't know it means I dig it. 😎
We f*** with it too!!
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Now you guys have to listen to their first album . Song OF A LIFE TIME. !!!!!!!¡
I have to stop watching you guys!! You literally bring me to tears of joy seeing you react to the soundtracks of my generation lives! I don’t care what anyone says between 1955 and 1990 the best music in the world was created by 20 something young men and women. They wrote their own lyrics, wrote their own music and played real instruments! That ship has sailed and will never be duplicated.
Steve Perry was the male "The Voice" and Whitney Houston was the female "The Voice". Yes, and a shout-out to Neil Schon's legendary guitar solos!
He sounds exactly the same live there’s no difference
When musicians had talent
There’s a reason other bands called him the voice
From the same record try 'Send Her My Love' , 'Chain Reaction' and 'Separate Ways'. A great record. After the awesome Escape record, not many could top a record like that. But they pulled it off with this record called 'Frontiers'.
Whitney loved his voice. That’s enough for me.
Just as a footnote. Prince didn't write "Purple Rain". Two of the girls in his band did. He performed it and stared in the movie by the same name
Please check out the live version of “Mother, Father” with Steve Perry on vocals. If you thought his vocals on this record was good, watch him sing the suggested song live.
Check out "Stone in Love"
