  • I wasn't able to find a good video about rebuilding and repairing bike rims, so I made one. This method should work with most loose bearing bike rims.

Every person who has said “I’m going to put a little antiseize on” and proceed to be absolutely covered in it head to toe and the entire shop is covered as well…..

Found a 1972 or 73 schwinn stingray with these gt fan mags just sitting in a boat shed. I can’t wait to restore it
    Thanks for the video
Didn’t know you could get white walls on these rims
    Nice

Great video. I am doing the same with GT fan mags and Tuff IIs. Got the parts mixed together. Would have like some close ups of the hardware. Got them back together with your help. Me and my Torket thank you.

That a 94? My first gt was a 94…I’m building a 97 performer right now, so glad I hung on to it all these years.

Put the freewheel tool in a vice upside down, put the freewheel in it, turn the wheel.

I am getting ready to do the same thing on my 95. Could you please post some links for the freewheel, the removal tool, and the bearings? As you know trying to find this info is more than a little difficult, at least for me. Thanks in advance!

Not sure if you'll see this considering how long ago you posted the video, but I have a couple if questions (if you dont mind):
    1. Why are these wheels so sought after and valuable??
    2. Are they stronger than standard rims?
    3. Was it necessary to replace the old bearings, or just good practice?
I have had these exact rims lying around for some time now and was about to use them as wheels on an eBike trailer I'm custom building... Without your video, id be lost in understanding how to DE-CRUD this hardware (mine is bad)... So THANKS!!!
Only issue I have now is the second thoughts im having over putting these on a trailer instead of selling them... I checked eBay and found just under 10 pairs of these have sold for AS MUCH AS $420!!! WTF!!???
Whats your opinion?? It would look sick, but am I disgracing a legend if I use these on a trailer?

These rims came on the top level Gt and Dyno from like 1994 to 1998 or at least the highest level most kids parents could afford so they are pretty sought after when it comes to growing up or riding from those eras…as far as strength goes I never saw a set break on any jumps or race tracks but they where heavier then spokes…I’m building my son a Dyno and these Mags are a must for me but I loved these mags…and yes currently they cost more then the bike itself…lol

Hi im Chik from Hong Kong .
I have the same mags as yours but my rear wheel has a wobbly issue ...
It feels like riding a horse.
Does that about body weight ? Cause I'm 270 lb big boi...

    • @robschwiesow
      @robschwiesow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Chik, could be a bent rim, or possibly it isn't installed on the bike perfectly level. I would flip the bike upside down so it is on the seat and handlebars and spin the wheel and see if it is out of whack!

Dude why are you wasting your time with wheels that dont have sealed bearings?..gotta have sealed bearing wheels nowadaze...thats why you cant find any videos about those kind of wheels..they're obsolete and pretty much junk..if you want mag wheels go to Planet BMX and get you some SKYWAY Tuff IIs w/ sealed bearing hubs...they roll so nice
