In my mind i always have these two in the background lol. I also have Elpenor as the chorus leader of the dead crewmates in "The Underworld" much like how Eurylochus is the chorus leader of the alive crew.
I'll be honest I think Elpenor and Perimedes is what Epic is missing. I came out of the Thunder Saga more bitter towards Eurylochus than sad about the sacrifice Odysseus had to make. The only reason we have to care about the crew is Eurylochus; who, due to his nature as an eventual antagonist, causes a difficulty in connecting with the crew for the audience. Perimedes and Eurylochus in contrast are so grounded, they're not in constant battle with our only point of reference, they're so human in a plot focused on the mythical. I would honestly be willing to sacrifice a live adaptation of Epic in exchange for a Perimedes and Elpenor Saga and I say that with no sense of dishonesty.
@@turbopugs2593 yes! I love the focus on the gods, but I’d also have loved it too if we could have more on the crew. Polites and Eury were our only link, and Polites died early, and Eury was making bad decisions, so we don’t really get much more of the crew except for that.
I’m someone who loves Eurylochus and connects with the crew fully (Monster was about Ody accepting that he’s becoming a worse person so I think that humanizes the crew based on what Ody does to Eury with the torches), and I also agree that I’d love to see Perimedes and Elpenor as fleshed out characters. They seem pretty interesting from these snippets and one thing I don’t like is the crew outside of Eury feeling like one big monolith with all the same thoughts, having these two would make that connection stronger- and that moment where Peri stabs Ody would be even crazier

Cope With That takes place on the ORIGINAL Lotus island on the Odyssey, where Ody's crewmates got high on Lotus and had to be forced out the island, at least I presume. But in the Perimedes yeet song, he metions that 72 crewmates are already dead, and the first time they died was in the Polyphemus cave, making it happen during the Ocean Saga. So, yeah.

Honestly I would have loved a Permides/Elpenor saga (btw definitely a ship) or at least a song because they're just another crewmate in the eyes of Odysseus not a second in command or close friend, so it is good to hear from the crew (especially when Perimedes appears in the Thunder saga) you hear where they're coming from. But I do understand it makes for a more cohesive narrative without them

what if the sirens come back and pretend to be elpenor’s shade to convince ody whether he knows it’s absurd for a shade to be there or not since ody didn’t actually notice elp’s death? i mean sure elp’s part of epic was cut, but jorge also said the sirens were cut, and that was very rude of him. at the very least the siren’s might “sing another verse” as stated by athena in god games.
I'm unsure if it's irony or hypocrisy when someone who claims to be heartless and gives no fucks about others suddenly expects people to care about his own death. What's even more striking is his ability to recognize mental health struggles in others. Not a dig, just make it make sense.
