TH-cam is basically a big arena. If you want people to notice you more, you basically have to make videos that would scream "hey, i'm here!!" but the competition is so high that it is hard to win that viral promotion. When TH-cam first started you could easily be famous because there were less channels, but now, we just have to hope to be promoted and try that much harder with our videos. Stay strong everyone 💕
I feel like all these algorithm and all the videos on "how to get more subscribers" "how to improve your watch time" etc etc etc. It's so subjunctive and not "real" or achievable. I try not to put pressure on myself and remember why I started doing it. Keeping true to yourself and sharing your story as much as you can. I wish the best of luck to all. I wish nothing but success and lots of positive energy your way. Your channel will grow! Don't get discouraged by views, or subscribers. Know your worth and be proud of your content. Even if you have 10 subscribers. That means 10 people believe in you and want to see more of you.
ALyricdotcom i don’t see it or at least I don’t want to see it as a competition. There’s room for everyone and all are welcomed. I find that staying true to yourself and your content is being honest. I guess I don’t want to hunt for follows. This is a hobby for me as I have a full time job. The moment it stops being fun I won’t do it anymore. In the mean time I just enjoy the ride and do the best I can.
By the sound of it, TH-cam promotes mainly mainstream. That what everybody wants to watch. But isn't the power of TH-cam the amount of creators, so there is a channel for everybody? Shouldn't TH-cam highlight some 'niche channels' as well, to give them more attention instead of making it Mainstream. With this Algorithm TH-cam starts to look like television: more for the mass. It would be nice to have a TH-cam spotlight, where you promote a smaller channel, that makes high quality movies. Don't they deserve some attention as well?
TH-cam have moved on from that idea. One of the main representatives said so in his book ""Streampunks: TH-cam and the Rebels Remaking Media". Yes I did read it all. No, I don't advise it. It starts off really interesting and then just bloms into "What made us different was different content not found in TV Networks, but now we want to be the same as any other TV Network"
How to get recommended more. 1: Don't drink. 2: Don't smoke. 3: Don't vape. 4: Don't talk about Trump in a good way. 5: Don't swear. 6: Don't talk about politics that's not praising the left. 7: Don't say anything, at all, ever that will even remotely hint at offending the SJW's. 8: Don't say anything bad, at all, ever, about any company in Silicon Valley 9: Don't live outside of the US, if you do, we will ignore you because...murica. 10: Don't think we will keep the same rules in our ToS for more than a week. 11: Don't think we will keep the same rules in our Community Standards for more than a week. 12: Don't question our "human" moderators in appeals, even if they consistently misinterpret the community standards. 13: Don't think we care, we don't, because we have no viable competition 14: Don't do videos that are family-friendly, we demonetise that ages ago. 15: Don't cover subjects like the news...we are in the pockets of CNN and other, we will push your videos down 16: Don't cover real-life subjects that the mainstream news doesn't cover or ignore, because that will be "Fake News" according to us. 17: Don't try and follow the Terms of Service and the Community Standards at the same time...because we can change the rules anyway and retroactively strike videos you have from years ago. 18: Don't try and contact us for help, we will mostly ignore you. 19: Don't believe anything in these insider videos, they are here for false hope that we actually care about you. 20: Don't question anything Susan our CEO does, she's been driving TH-cam into the ground since she got here, and we are happy with that. If you can follow all that, you may get recommended...at least until the next time they change a rule, which will probably be next week.

My Beta video overview analysis charts have helped guide me to several strong performing videos in recent posts. I concentrate on the AVD & CTR & can understand the correlation with Impressions of views from Home & Suggested much better. I can fine tune my productions with the quickly accessed metrics of the audience on previous videos. I now predict & understand my audiences potential reaction to a piece of content I produce before I post it. I also love the fact that is will push out an engaging video to new viewers. The dilution of CTR makes sense with more impressions, I'll stop worrying about that and leave my original thumbnails alone on a performing video :). I love an engaged audience, especially repeat viewers & comments. The algorithm works for creators & the audience on an individual basis. Its really incredible. I have a small channel about health and medicine, I am focusing in short videos that goes straight to the point rather than long videos where I talk medicine stuff that only confuse non medical viewers, but according to this video, my channel will not be promoted because my average view duration is small even if my viewers are liking it more because the video says straightforward what they need to know. Nowadays is harder to succeed in TH-cam.
I appreciate that the team puts these videos together to help us out. I've struggled with video lengths...I find that usually viewers watch 25% of my video content, and I try to set it to 10 minute bites so that viewers can easily consume it. That means if I create a quick 2-3 minute video though my average view time gets dragged down, and I wasn't sure if that was tanking things. Sounds like as long as the percentage is decent it should be ok. I'm curious what others see for average percentages for viewership...for my maker channel I usualy see about 25% on solidly performning vidoes.

This new TH-cam Algorithm look like television: recommended more for larger audience. So small channel like us, where you don't have larger audience will not get promoted/recommended.😥
The idea of creating an A/B testing tool for thumbnails and titles would be fantastic! That would really help creators narrow in on what works and what doesn't. Can't wait for that.
Seriously though, sometimes I have a couple thumbnails that I'm battling over and just have to go with my gut. If we could use both and see, that would be sick!
The question that always comes to my mind is when looking at the data in Analytics in the Audience section, there is a graph that says: Most of the viewers' time watching my channel is What time will it be online? But when looking at the channels of friends and acquaintances, we find that most of them are similar graphs. Not much different make me think Most of the people will be online during that time (around 19.00-21.00) the question is 1.shall I post the clip during the time when there are a lot of viewers. Or post during the period when the audience doesn't have to be a lot (like at morning or noon) . So that we don't have to compete with people to see, is it better? 2. People seeing the clip suddenly when the clip is just being released, How much effect will TH-cam recommend that clip? (To answer the question in question 1), we should emphasize that the clip to gets a lot of viewers in the first few hours of the clip, or just release it not the time that have most traffic? Does it affect the long-term vision of the clip?
My channel has been on the uprise for a while. Suddenly, a few days ago, my impressions have been plummeting every single day. And of course my views and watch time are tanking along with it. I know there could be many reasons for this, but in my opinion, youtube should give creators some sort of feedback or logic at least behind why this is happening. I know you ladies mentioned in this video about seasonality, competition etc. However, is it actually normal to go from getting 60 to 70 K impressions per day down to less than 40 K per day practically overnight? It can be very demotivating not only for me, but for others as well and without any good reason, makes it very hard to make a decision on what content to release next. Any help is appreciated

It happens to me regularly. I often joke about it, when I start doing well and getting traction, I KNOW something is gonna happen to send me back to where I started. It happens to me every 3 months or so. The cynical side of me thinks TH-cam purposely pushes me back down when they see a couple of my vids doing exceptionally well, but I 'm not sure.... :-)
Great suggestion- We're working on bringing you more insights at a channel level. In the meantime, we recommend you use the advanced analytics tool to understand which videos and traffic sources are contributing most to the drop. It could be that interest in one of your older videos has decreased, a shift in topic interest, or that your audience is not as active on YT as the previous period. Hope that helps!

And I have done that already, and basically, I had about 10 videos on my channel that were all doing really well, getting a ton of browse and suggested traffic, and suddenly, all of them are going down at the same time. So it would be helpful to know if my viewers just arent on youtube because its nice out and things are opening up, or it is in fact a topical interest issue, in which case I would need to switch up my strategy. But since I don't know which it is, it is hard to decide what to do next. If you guys can give some insight on this in future analytics tools, that would be AWESOME! Thanks again😊
That new feature is very helpful. Something that would be good to clarify is whether a couple of videos that "under perform" will affect the reach of future videos which could have performed better if they were shown to our subscribers. There is always a stressful sense of needing to keep producing better and better content and not deviating from any popular topics for fear that TH-cam will not show our videos to our subscribers if some previous videos did not perform well.

Is your channel just all original songs? If so, that's your answer. Nobody knows who you are and your thumbnails don't catch my attention, they're very standard. Give someone a reason to want to click and then hope that they stay and watch the entire thing
hey, you need to work on your tags I wouldn`t agree with someone saying that your thumbnails are not catching. I believe you got style and if I was looking for original music I would click on your video (i don`t want an artist with gamer-style thumbnails that simply do not suit the music). BUT your tags are horrible (no offense). You need to watch some videos about SEO optimization and to work a bit more on your tags tiles and description so that you rank HIGHER in search. Also if you have other social media - promote your music there. Make some covers of the songs that are not covered a lot (not mainstream, you`ll get lost) to get attention to your channel and your original songs
TH-cam will penalize some subject that may be seen as spreading fake news. Like ghosts, paranormal, UFOs, aliens, any conspiracies and so much more. But many of those are the truth, and many are real, they are trying to erase the truth from the net.
While I can understand the intention of how videos are treated when you receive a ton of external traffic (ex. The Google News Feed on Android Devices) it does seem to hurt the performance of my video. I notice my video has a pretty severe drop off in impressions once I have a large bump in external traffic. These views seem to populate 3 hours later in the real-time views section. When that happens my views spike like crazy but my organic reach on the YT platform proper dies off. It looks like the system is choosing to not suggest it more because my AVD drops to under a minute because my video auto-plays as people scroll past it on the Google News Feed. Is it possible to break out metrics based on traffic source? Impressions, CTR, AVD based on that? That would really help us really determine if external traffic is harming our organic reach on the YT platform specifically.
I had something like this happen for a recent video, with super-high external traffic (it said Google Search) with super-low AVD. I never thought about the Google News Feed. It makes sense, too, because virtually none of those views were monetized playbacks. It's so strange to see, and made me worry that I was going to screw up the algorithm and ruin my channel. It's so distorting, that I think I would block the Google Search/External impressions for the first week, if that was possible. Thanks for helping me understand what's going on.
Thanks for the feedback! Increased external traffic may cause sharp spikes (and drops) in overall traffic or real-time views. Especially if you're getting lots of views from other social media platforms which have more short-lived content discovery. That being said, this shouldn't impact how your video is being recommended on Home or Watch Next as they use separate ranking models. You can check these metrics by traffic source using the advanced analytics tool (click on "Advanced Mode" on the top right). Please note that we don't report on Impressions or CTR for External traffic as we have no way of logging that, but you can see metrics like views and average view duration.
Thanks for the info. I'm not sure whether what I'll ask is appropriate for this section, but here it goes. I have 9 or 10 song videos uploaded in TH-cam (I'm also in the process of uploading more). I'm interested in putting them together so that they are presented as an album. Right now they appear as individual songs on the right hand scroll column. How would I prepare the songs into one album package so that when a person clicks on it (the album), all of the songs will play one after the other? An example is if I click on the Stick Figure, Wisdom album, all of the songs on the album play consecutively. I would like to prepare my songs to work the same way, as opposed to them appearing on the scroll column as "singles".
You have hit the nail on the head. This is exactly what we need. Currently when I compare channels I often can’t find any reason for their relative success or very high quality channels hitting all creator requirements but unsuccessful and low quality ones with high success and vice versa
If CTR has to be interpreted by core viewers/outside viewers/traffic source, then it would help if it were broken out along these categories. Is it something that could be done?
The new report filters CTR and AVD by Home and Suggested videos to help you with the interpretation. You can also dig into more specific traffic sources using the advanced analytics tool (click on "Advanced Mode" on the top right).
I would be interested to know what is the role of comments for a video being ranked. It is often a sign of engagement when a video has lots of comments or longer comments. How do you take comments into account when ranking and suggesting videos. Number of comments, words and language in comments, length of comments etc. Thanks so much!
One thing is for sure: it extends the time on the page and creates return visits. There is no way TH-cam does not notice that. One good reason to reply to all comments on your page.
Perhaps it will be clear when the new feature is rolled out, but what was the range of AVD and CTR that was shown for the new feature? Is it showing the range of all videos? Will we be able to see the independent AVD for each context (home, watch next, search, etc.) and for each video if we drill down?
Seems like at the end of the day smaller creators are battling how much larger TH-camrs are being promoted and pushed. It's like the snowball effect. Really tough to fight that uphill battle but at the end of the day, viewership is a finite commodity and there is only so much to go around. As much as TH-cam would like everyone to succeed, it is impossible, especially as the number of creators grows and the amount of content keeps increasing faster than amount of time people are watching. I'd love to see a graph of overall minutes of TH-cam content vs minutes of TH-cam content watched from the beginning of TH-cam until now. I think it will put people's dreams of becoming a TH-cam sensation into perspective.
Great to hear that CTR and AVD are treated separate depending on the source of traffic. I always worried that if my video had a low AVD from an external source such as my website or facebook, that it would impact it's distribution on TH-cam! Thanks for this!
Is there an AVD percentage threshold that triggers part of the algorithm? I have videos that have a similar AVD and CTR but wildly disparate view counts and impressions.
They cover this in the video. "Discovery looks at AVD in context." Essentially, we're seeing the overall AVD in our analytics view, but the system uses separate AVDs for Home, Watch Next, etc. So your overall might be the same or similar...which is what you see in the analytics, but they might be very different underneath....one video might be skewed toward home and the other toward search, watch next, etc. Thus it follows that say if your AVD for search is very high, but your AVD for home is very low on one video that your counts and impressions would be very different.

I have a fairly successful youtube channel Wonder World, that was getting about 125-150k views a day, then a started a new channel with different types of videos and the views on Wonder World dropped to about 70-75k views a day, after 1 month of the views staying at about 70k i deleted the other channel as a test and now the views started coming back up the day after i delete the channel. *Is it possible the algorithm does not want me to run a second channel? and stopped recommending my videos?*
I wish you listen to my opinion as Middle East creator , TH-cam have a big problem in the Algorithm ,I hope you listen carefully , TH-cam is made for creative ideas and person , but the algorithm tend to promote the similar videos from different channels , so My new Ideas I cannot spread because youtube donot care about new content but about similar content , and this point makes us all copycatters not creative . I want to believe what you people on this channel say, i really do, but out of everything I have watched in the last 5 videos that you uploaded (and Ive watched all of them many times to try to find something to believe) there is no possible way this statement can be true after looking at my analytics many times a day (in classic YT used to ask if I enjoyed Analytics) the last 1000 days
I mean well you are kinda making it work mate, certainly more so than most on the comments, so kudos for that. However I understand where you are coming from, I slaved myself to my analytics for a month to see what happened, decreasing views and engagements across the board. At this point I think I'm just heading down a dead end to be honest with you and I remember the old Creator videos that said 'find a niche and dominate it' well I have and that has created no real traction, maybe I should just start making videos to do with the latest trends and hop on the gravy train.
a Video about getting your Videos discovered only has 9500 views in 11 days? ok. This stuff is way too confusing- My channel will probably under perform forever- which is ok because I love the Tube and post because It makes me happy. I truly enjoy posting no matter if people view or not
we have an answer which sums it all. competition!!!! So its not that you have done anything wrong. its just that competition is high. as a small creator. we can easily get pushed away even doing everything that is right on youtube.
Make a new niche is the answer and make it look high quality and relevant to a wide audience...or just do YT drama like everyone else and make 10 shekels every 6 months.
4:18 Finally some truth to this. My 2nd best video that has a Audience retention of 55.2% and a CTR of 7.7% someone embedded it on trainfanitics a month ago and the views went up 1000% because its a great video with a great thumbnail. 2 days later it was not shown anymore but on YT and of course views dropped 90%. Sad that it takes an outside web site to feature great content of a TH-cam video to show it to an interested audience and it be virtually hidden to an audience thats 1000's of times bigger once its only shown on YT again. One would think that when a Video gets a 1000% spike in views that the YT algorithm would pick up on this that maybe somethings there in that video that people would want to see. But again this is the world of TH-cam Edit: And watch time went up 2000% when someone embedded this video on an external site in addition to the 1000% increase in views, and amazingly on the day it got 1000% more views and 2000% more watch time the AVD was 78% !! but TH-cam impressions for this video for those days actually dropped a little, proving once again this video is virtually hidden on TH-cam
Just looking through everyone's channel in the comments is a very good lesson on how TH-cam actually works. It's also kind of depressing though, seeing good channels and high-production value videos still get low views.
To all those saying TH-cam is in someway Biased or all down to Money, I record myself driving a Truck... I have gained over 12,000 subs in 12 months. The reason why i have grown rather quickly i believe is because of Passion, Dedication, Thinking outside the box & believing in what i'm actually recording. So many small youtubers you can clearly tell, they want to do TH-cam to be Famous & to earn millions & i'm telling you now, people can see straight through you. If you record yourself doing something you are passionate about, be it, sewing, dancing, playing with your children, if YOU are enjoying what you are doing, people will enjoy watching you. If you are recording yourself trying to be the next Ninja or Markiplier or Mr Beast, just to become famous or rich, it'll never happen..... Unless you are amazingly talented beyond anything that's already out there.
Thank you for this! I think you are exactly right. I don't think TH-cam to intentionally tries to screw anyone out of the spotlight. I think they give everyone the same tools, and some people just use them more than others.
It's interesting seeing all of the comments of people asking "why am I not getting recommended?" when their channel doesn't follow the most basic fundamentals: enticing thumbnail, interesting title, something that a broad audience would be interested in watching, no personality, etc. Put yourself in someone's shoes who has never heard of you and ask: why would they want to click your video and why would they want to watch the entire thing? If you can't give a good answer, tweak something and see if it works. Try changing your thumbnail after a week of it being uploaded and then watch the next week of analytics, see if anything changes. Then try a more interesting title, see if anything changes. But a plain/boring thumb or putting the same thumb for many different videos will do nothing for you. You need to a) grab someone's attention and b) keep their attention. If you fail at either then you fail on YT
sounds great, but I tried it all and still it does not work well :))) someone wrote here - you need to have a friend who works for Goolge, yep, so agree with that :) One channel I was watching, the girl had no good views for years and one day I checked her channel and it was like 50k subs and lot's of views, she mentioned that her husband got a job at Google :)))

LOGIC - I assume it is not easy to make an algorithm logical although I assume you are working hard when you discover the logic in not exact. This is the first time I have heard an explanation of what I have been thinking about clicks. So, your explanation about high and low volume videos and the clicks reinforces my logical thinking. My only question…. are you developers or programmers. Could the logic be less logical once the programmer produces the code? I can only imagine the dialog happening at your workstation. On a personal note. I love that you-all are letting us get more acquainted with TH-cam. Forgive me for being long winded but I love to jabber when an expert reinforces what I was thinking. Wayne Olinger, same here: only I can find and watch my channel. I have a Science background and tend to analyse everything: now I know why some videos are at the top of the search list and some are never to be discovered.
*Their issues with the app TH-cam Studio. Every time I type on the description box it glitches up and down!* Also it would be great if you can add a feature on the TH-cam Studio App were you can *Filter comments I haven't replied to!* So I can make sure I didn't miss none. This Feature is already added on desktop but would be great for mobile as well!
I've posted something very similar to this on about the last 10 of your videos, without a single reply or acknowledgement. Can you just PLEASE allow us to revert back to the old Studio in some form? Or redesign the new Studio somehow to a more efficient, streamlined design? The new comments page is so laggy and slow, it's almost unusable (desktop). I literally get frustrated with it so much that I have to leave the page and stop scrolling through my comments a few times a day because it hangs up, jumps up or down, and is just so slow it's not productive. I get lots of comments, I want to go through them all. You have made it nearly impossible. This shouldn't be a chore. It should be simple to just scroll down and see all of my comments. The old version worked fine. I had no problem with it, I never complained. Now you added all these gimmicks to it , I guess to try to show off your talents, or maybe just as busy work to keep your jobs, and have made the basic function of the page unbearable. No other web site I ever go to makes me wait 3 or 4 seconds to load another 5 or 6 comments like the new studio does. Its really ridiculous to put this out and call it an improvement just because it offers canned replies. Silly gimmicks at the expense of a functional page. Please do something to allow quick, easy functionality, even if I have to lose some of the extra features. I just want it to work quickly and efficiently. Same with the new "uploads" page. Why does it show the scheduled ones first? If I JUST uploaded a video, when done uploading this page appears. But my newly uploaded video is nowhere to be found.... it's buried behind 60 scheduled videos. And the page only displays 30 at a time (I keep changing it to 50, why cant it remember? Another design flaw). I have to go actively look for the video I JUST PUT UP! It should be right there at the top! At least let me choose the order they are displayed, AND REMEMBER MY CHOICE so it stays like that for my next video! PLEASE! There are just so many design flaws and poor implementation, I could write several more pages. Please just offer a basic quick form to accomplish the basic tasks the huge majority of users want, and put all the gimmicks and slow loading pages, multiple menus, incessant click-thru-ing, and hidden stats on a separate page for those users who want to deal with such things. I think they come up with all these new features to keep people on YT longer and thus less time to go to other sites such as facebook. like you said more work (and thus more hours) to do the same thing we did in less time using the old system. My 50 hours a week working 7 days a week to make videos for Yt are not worth it
Here's two things you guys failed to focus on there needs to be some kind of command prompt based AI Control System for TH-cam for TH-cam Studio like you guys could use Gemini or whatever to do it correctly but it needs to be able to do various things like gather data from your videos generate new video transcripts based off of it various other things that could do it could also help you understand from a command prompt or just a prompt things you ask it relative to your TH-cam Analytics😊
Great video! I've wondered if external traffic could hurt a video by lowering AVD. That was great to hear that each context / traffic source of how a video is shown has it's own ranking model and hearing that explained. Thanks for talking about that and explaining that!
If you are new and have no subscribers, what is the initial mechanism for exposure? Is the early activity simply lost in the noise or is there an algorithm which allows exceptional new content from an unestablished creator to propagate?
I understand how all this works, nothing new to me. My problem is the constant fails and inconsistencies in the data collected, and how that's increasing my lack of faith in the system. For example, viewers are watching >5 min of my last 15 min upload, yet the dashboard claimed the audience retention was
Agreed, James. BTW, love your content. The data is so old by the time we see it, it is of no relevance. I have on average 51% retention and I don't get recommended. One bug with data collection is...if someone watches a second time to gather a few details, it lowers overall retention. Speaking of click bait, this video, along with most of what Creator Insider posts. All promise and no substance. Calling it algorithm is a joke, I call it a tally. Why do I bother?

Hello, I don't have the feature on my account is it possible to activate it so that I can test and provide feedback? I recently have a video go viral and have a general understanding of the mechanisms that drove the consumption of the video I just want more information. Also Thumbnail A/B testing would be phenomenal!
let face it... recommend is so random that it getting pointless.. just made 40 se video.. since it as waste of time... since most of my audience like them.. they still only watch 10 second before get to the next one.....

After around four years on TH-cam I am at the same point I've been since nearly the beginning. My videos aren't recommended or maybe get a couple recommendations when they are. Sure, I get a occasional spike, but unless I upload daily I don't make any gains. In fact I did a test, uploaded daily for just over a month, then didn't upload for a while. The reach dropped to normal levels a day or two after the last video, then completely tanked to less than twenty recommendations a day until I had posted a few more videos. These aren't per video numbers, this is total for the channel. I have videos no one has ever watched, or has less than ten views. A good example, I posted a video for Vampyr two days after it came out. It has had 96 total impressions since uploading (June 5, 2018), 15 of those were the day after the video was released.That series has several unwatched videos. It seems only 'advertiser friendly' videos get recommended, unless you're a big enough channel.
My channel is not big by any means but self-promotion helps raise your numbers. When I drop a video, I'll normally share it to every social media platform that I'm on. Maybe this can help you as well.
hey dude , i just started a few weeks ago and i am doing good, you have to work hard in the start . you can't just upload and wait, try and self promo on discord etc until u have a good number of subs . dont give up
thumbnails... zoom them... most views impressively come from mobile and in there things are tiny, make your thumbnails more vibrant, colorful or they will just be another thumbnail in the middle of so many. , also i recommend you add your logo to the thumbnails, after all you have to treat your channel like a brand, and this brand needs to be recognized by your fans :) best of luck my friend!
most of the subs I have are from a discord I'm in. I've used twitter since before they removed the auto post from the creator studio. my twitter, youtube, and twitch are cross linked and I just made a instagram last night for images related to certain videos I've done, though there isn't anything there yet. my problem is low reach + low watch time = low growth. if I could figure out the 'why' for the low watch time then the rest would most likely solve itself.
Some of these subjects are super important, but for someone who is not that analytics savvy, it is still hard to understand what the analytics are actually telling you... It would be awesome if there were a section where we can learn about each different analytic and what to do about them. If you already have a section like that, would you please point me in the right direction? Thank you!
I think a feature that everyone I believe will LOVE would be a 3 Notifications button that you can click to send notifications out to Subscribers.. the kicker is that we get to choose what videos get a notification based on what the creator believes will have the Best Interest of subscribers. We know that it's up to 3 notifications per 24 hours...sooo let us make that decision since WE know our viewers more than TH-cam!
I just started my "channel" in 2020 but I had been using this platform mostly for eBay listings and a few other videos for a while. But I am 58+ years old and I had my concerns about AGE. But in my particular subject matter, there are a lot of older people who are quite popular, so I happy just making my crazy little videos and touching base with some more like minded folks!
We had a video last week that was getting hundreds and thousands of views right from the get go. It was external from google. You'll be able to see which video easily by looking at our channel. We had this video scheduled weeks in advance so am wondering if that had any impact? It lasted for a few days but seems to be dying off now though. We've got our next 7 videos for the next 4 weeks already scheduled so we'll see what happens with those.
It's hurting TH-cam more than it hurts you, but its required so that it takes more time for us to reach the goal and so that means fewer channels for review
I have about 5000h watchtime per month and do not earn enough money to pay my electricity bill... So if you can't even get 4000 hours a year, you're not missing anything... Just enjoy making great content and the views and watchtime will come by itself!
Good video ! I have a question about rebranding a channel. I made a "hard break" and switched from one topic to a completely different one. I see it affects AVD , CTR and basically all metrics, which I expected. Still it's hard to stay motivated if you keep producing and most of your old subs don't watch the content. How do I go best about this (hopefully short term) setback on the channel and do you have some tips for rebranding?
I'd love to know why my creator handle doesn't show up in search! I have the handle @Chief and even though I've put it in the title and description of all my videos, when I search @Chief and look under channels, I see hundreds of other channels with less subscribers than mine, before I ever see mine.Please help!
Very helpful video, thank you. Something I wonder about is the affect of having many low performing videos in a row after high performing videos. As a gaming channel I sometimes post a series that doesn't do as well as I would hope and that means 10 or so low performing videos in a row if I finish the game. When I go back to a game that I know my audience as a whole enjoys will those videos be negatively affected due to the previous game series? If you could answer this in a future video or here I would really appreciate it! Thanks again.
Probably better to terminate a series of low performing products of course it will affect the future and the current. Although since the work has been done probably better to just leave them there will be some that will still enjoy them. You’ll just have to avoid making similar low performing content. And I know it’s frustrating I’m in the same boat.
Hi Faylen, the performance of your past videos should not impact the discovery of your new uploads. The recommendation system looks at each individual video and how well viewers respond to it when it's offered to them in their recommendations. This helps us match every viewer to the videos they're most likely to watch and enjoy. Hope that helps!
@@ziakhan1070 A/B testing is a method of comparing the performance of, in this case, two identical videos, where the thumbnails are different for both. To see which thumbnail version that has a greater success rate compared to the other. So, you might try different approaches on the thumbnails and settle on the one that gets the most attention and is pulling viewers into your video.
TH-cam is basically a big arena. If you want people to notice you more, you basically have to make videos that would scream "hey, i'm here!!" but the competition is so high that it is hard to win that viral promotion. When TH-cam first started you could easily be famous because there were less channels, but now, we just have to hope to be promoted and try that much harder with our videos. Stay strong everyone 💕

I feel like all these algorithm and all the videos on "how to get more subscribers" "how to improve your watch time" etc etc etc. It's so subjunctive and not "real" or achievable. I try not to put pressure on myself and remember why I started doing it. Keeping true to yourself and sharing your story as much as you can. I wish the best of luck to all. I wish nothing but success and lots of positive energy your way. Your channel will grow! Don't get discouraged by views, or subscribers. Know your worth and be proud of your content. Even if you have 10 subscribers. That means 10 people believe in you and want to see more of you.

ALyricdotcom i don’t see it or at least I don’t want to see it as a competition. There’s room for everyone and all are welcomed. I find that staying true to yourself and your content is being honest. I guess I don’t want to hunt for follows. This is a hobby for me as I have a full time job. The moment it stops being fun I won’t do it anymore. In the mean time I just enjoy the ride and do the best I can.
By the sound of it, TH-cam promotes mainly mainstream. That what everybody wants to watch. But isn't the power of TH-cam the amount of creators, so there is a channel for everybody? Shouldn't TH-cam highlight some 'niche channels' as well, to give them more attention instead of making it Mainstream.
With this Algorithm TH-cam starts to look like television: more for the mass. It would be nice to have a TH-cam spotlight, where you promote a smaller channel, that makes high quality movies. Don't they deserve some attention as well?

My Beta video overview analysis charts have helped guide me to several strong performing videos in recent posts. I concentrate on the AVD & CTR & can understand the correlation with Impressions of views from Home & Suggested much better. I can fine tune my productions with the quickly accessed metrics of the audience on previous videos. I now predict & understand my audiences potential reaction to a piece of content I produce before I post it. I also love the fact that is will push out an engaging video to new viewers. The dilution of CTR makes sense with more impressions, I'll stop worrying about that and leave my original thumbnails alone on a performing video :). I love an engaged audience, especially repeat viewers & comments. The algorithm works for creators & the audience on an individual basis. Its really incredible. I have a small channel about health and medicine, I am focusing in short videos that goes straight to the point rather than long videos where I talk medicine stuff that only confuse non medical viewers, but according to this video, my channel will not be promoted because my average view duration is small even if my viewers are liking it more because the video says straightforward what they need to know.
Nowadays is harder to succeed in TH-cam.
I appreciate that the team puts these videos together to help us out. I've struggled with video lengths...I find that usually viewers watch 25% of my video content, and I try to set it to 10 minute bites so that viewers can easily consume it. That means if I create a quick 2-3 minute video though my average view time gets dragged down, and I wasn't sure if that was tanking things. Sounds like as long as the percentage is decent it should be ok. I'm curious what others see for average percentages for viewership...for my maker channel I usualy see about 25% on solidly performning vidoes.

The question that always comes to my mind is when looking at the data in Analytics in the Audience section, there is a graph that says: Most of the viewers' time watching my channel is What time will it be online? But when looking at the channels of friends and acquaintances, we find that most of them are similar graphs. Not much different make me think Most of the people will be online during that time (around 19.00-21.00)

1.shall I post the clip during the time when there are a lot of viewers. Or post during the period when the audience doesn't have to be a lot (like at morning or noon) . So that we don't have to compete with people to see, is it better?
2. People seeing the clip suddenly when the clip is just being released, How much effect will TH-cam recommend that clip? (To answer the question in question 1), we should emphasize that the clip to gets a lot of viewers in the first few hours of the clip, or just release it not the time that have most traffic? Does it affect the long-term vision of the clip?
My channel has been on the uprise for a while. Suddenly, a few days ago, my impressions have been plummeting every single day. And of course my views and watch time are tanking along with it. I know there could be many reasons for this, but in my opinion, youtube should give creators some sort of feedback or logic at least behind why this is happening.
I know you ladies mentioned in this video about seasonality, competition etc. However, is it actually normal to go from getting 60 to 70 K impressions per day down to less than 40 K per day practically overnight?
It can be very demotivating not only for me, but for others as well and without any good reason, makes it very hard to make a decision on what content to release next. Any help is appreciated

It happens to me regularly. I often joke about it, when I start doing well and getting traction, I KNOW something is gonna happen to send me back to where I started. It happens to me every 3 months or so. The cynical side of me thinks TH-cam purposely pushes me back down when they see a couple of my vids doing exceptionally well, but I 'm not sure.... :-)
Great suggestion- We're working on bringing you more insights at a channel level. In the meantime, we recommend you use the advanced analytics tool to understand which videos and traffic sources are contributing most to the drop. It could be that interest in one of your older videos has decreased, a shift in topic interest, or that your audience is not as active on YT as the previous period. Hope that helps!

And I have done that already, and basically, I had about 10 videos on my channel that were all doing really well, getting a ton of browse and suggested traffic, and suddenly, all of them are going down at the same time. So it would be helpful to know if my viewers just arent on youtube because its nice out and things are opening up, or it is in fact a topical interest issue, in which case I would need to switch up my strategy. But since I don't know which it is, it is hard to decide what to do next. If you guys can give some insight on this in future analytics tools, that would be AWESOME! Thanks again😊
That new feature is very helpful. Something that would be good to clarify is whether a couple of videos that "under perform" will affect the reach of future videos which could have performed better if they were shown to our subscribers. There is always a stressful sense of needing to keep producing better and better content and not deviating from any popular topics for fear that TH-cam will not show our videos to our subscribers if some previous videos did not perform well.

Is your channel just all original songs? If so, that's your answer. Nobody knows who you are and your thumbnails don't catch my attention, they're very standard. Give someone a reason to want to click and then hope that they stay and watch the entire thing

I wouldn`t agree with someone saying that your thumbnails are not catching. I believe you got style and if I was looking for original music I would click on your video (i don`t want an artist with gamer-style thumbnails that simply do not suit the music). BUT your tags are horrible (no offense). You need to watch some videos about SEO optimization and to work a bit more on your tags tiles and description so that you rank HIGHER in search. Also if you have other social media - promote your music there. Make some covers of the songs that are not covered a lot (not mainstream, you`ll get lost) to get attention to your channel and your original songs

TH-cam will penalize some subject that may be seen as spreading fake news. Like ghosts, paranormal, UFOs, aliens, any conspiracies and so much more. But many of those are the truth, and many are real, they are trying to erase the truth from the net.

So to summarize: Getting a video to succeed on TH-cam is akin to winning the state lottery or getting struck by lightning.
I think it's more unlikely than both of those things happening at the same time.
While I can understand the intention of how videos are treated when you receive a ton of external traffic (ex. The Google News Feed on Android Devices) it does seem to hurt the performance of my video. I notice my video has a pretty severe drop off in impressions once I have a large bump in external traffic. These views seem to populate 3 hours later in the real-time views section. When that happens my views spike like crazy but my organic reach on the YT platform proper dies off. It looks like the system is choosing to not suggest it more because my AVD drops to under a minute because my video auto-plays as people scroll past it on the Google News Feed.
Is it possible to break out metrics based on traffic source? Impressions, CTR, AVD based on that? That would really help us really determine if external traffic is harming our organic reach on the YT platform specifically.
I had something like this happen for a recent video, with super-high external traffic (it said Google Search) with super-low AVD. I never thought about the Google News Feed. It makes sense, too, because virtually none of those views were monetized playbacks. It's so strange to see, and made me worry that I was going to screw up the algorithm and ruin my channel. It's so distorting, that I think I would block the Google Search/External impressions for the first week, if that was possible. Thanks for helping me understand what's going on.
Thanks for the feedback! Increased external traffic may cause sharp spikes (and drops) in overall traffic or real-time views. Especially if you're getting lots of views from other social media platforms which have more short-lived content discovery. That being said, this shouldn't impact how your video is being recommended on Home or Watch Next as they use separate ranking models. You can check these metrics by traffic source using the advanced analytics tool (click on "Advanced Mode" on the top right). Please note that we don't report on Impressions or CTR for External traffic as we have no way of logging that, but you can see metrics like views and average view duration.
Thanks for the info. I'm not sure whether what I'll ask is appropriate for this section, but here it goes. I have 9 or 10 song videos uploaded in TH-cam (I'm also in the process of uploading more). I'm interested in putting them together so that they are presented as an album. Right now they appear as individual songs on the right hand scroll column. How would I prepare the songs into one album package so that when a person clicks on it (the album), all of the songs will play one after the other? An example is if I click on the Stick Figure, Wisdom album, all of the songs on the album play consecutively. I would like to prepare my songs to work the same way, as opposed to them appearing on the scroll column as "singles".

You have hit the nail on the head. This is exactly what we need. Currently when I compare channels I often can’t find any reason for their relative success or very high quality channels hitting all creator requirements but unsuccessful and low quality ones with high success and vice versa
If CTR has to be interpreted by core viewers/outside viewers/traffic source, then it would help if it were broken out along these categories. Is it something that could be done?
The new report filters CTR and AVD by Home and Suggested videos to help you with the interpretation. You can also dig into more specific traffic sources using the advanced analytics tool (click on "Advanced Mode" on the top right).

I would be interested to know what is the role of comments for a video being ranked. It is often a sign of engagement when a video has lots of comments or longer comments. How do you take comments into account when ranking and suggesting videos. Number of comments, words and language in comments, length of comments etc. Thanks so much!
One thing is for sure: it extends the time on the page and creates return visits. There is no way TH-cam does not notice that. One good reason to reply to all comments on your page.
Perhaps it will be clear when the new feature is rolled out, but what was the range of AVD and CTR that was shown for the new feature? Is it showing the range of all videos? Will we be able to see the independent AVD for each context (home, watch next, search, etc.) and for each video if we drill down?

Seems like at the end of the day smaller creators are battling how much larger TH-camrs are being promoted and pushed. It's like the snowball effect. Really tough to fight that uphill battle but at the end of the day, viewership is a finite commodity and there is only so much to go around. As much as TH-cam would like everyone to succeed, it is impossible, especially as the number of creators grows and the amount of content keeps increasing faster than amount of time people are watching. I'd love to see a graph of overall minutes of TH-cam content vs minutes of TH-cam content watched from the beginning of TH-cam until now. I think it will put people's dreams of becoming a TH-cam sensation into perspective.

Is there an AVD percentage threshold that triggers part of the algorithm? I have videos that have a similar AVD and CTR but wildly disparate view counts and impressions.
They cover this in the video. "Discovery looks at AVD in context." Essentially, we're seeing the overall AVD in our analytics view, but the system uses separate AVDs for Home, Watch Next, etc. So your overall might be the same or similar...which is what you see in the analytics, but they might be very different underneath....one video might be skewed toward home and the other toward search, watch next, etc. Thus it follows that say if your AVD for search is very high, but your AVD for home is very low on one video that your counts and impressions would be very different.

@Creator Insider - hello youtube I was wondering if you could answer a question i have. I have a fairly successful youtube channel Wonder World, that was getting about 125-150k views a day, then a started a new channel with different types of videos and the views on Wonder World dropped to about 70-75k views a day, after 1 month of the views staying at about 70k i deleted the other channel as a test and now the views started coming back up the day after i delete the channel.
*Is it possible the algorithm does not want me to run a second channel? and stopped recommending my videos?*

I agree, there's nothing useful said in this entire video!!
I mean well you are kinda making it work mate, certainly more so than most on the comments, so kudos for that. However I understand where you are coming from, I slaved myself to my analytics for a month to see what happened, decreasing views and engagements across the board. At this point I think I'm just heading down a dead end to be honest with you and I remember the old Creator videos that said 'find a niche and dominate it' well I have and that has created no real traction, maybe I should just start making videos to do with the latest trends and hop on the gravy train.
a Video about getting your Videos discovered only has 9500 views in 11 days? ok. This stuff is way too confusing- My channel will probably under perform forever- which is ok because I love the Tube and post because It makes me happy. I truly enjoy posting no matter if people view or not
we have an answer which sums it all. competition!!!! So its not that you have done anything wrong. its just that competition is high. as a small creator. we can easily get pushed away even doing everything that is right on youtube.
Make a new niche is the answer and make it look high quality and relevant to a wide audience...or just do YT drama like everyone else and make 10 shekels every 6 months.
I got that message also that the video is performing good, good idea with the messages, so you know without having to analyze too much the data.
4:18 Finally some truth to this. My 2nd best video that has a Audience retention of 55.2% and a CTR of 7.7% someone embedded it on trainfanitics a month ago and the views went up 1000% because its a great video with a great thumbnail. 2 days later it was not shown anymore but on YT and of course views dropped 90%. Sad that it takes an outside web site to feature great content of a TH-cam video to show it to an interested audience and it be virtually hidden to an audience thats 1000's of times bigger once its only shown on YT again. One would think that when a Video gets a 1000% spike in views that the YT algorithm would pick up on this that maybe somethings there in that video that people would want to see. But again this is the world of TH-cam
Edit: And watch time went up 2000% when someone embedded this video on an external site in addition to the 1000% increase in views, and amazingly on the day it got 1000% more views and 2000% more watch time the AVD was 78% !! but TH-cam impressions for this video for those days actually dropped a little, proving once again this video is virtually hidden on TH-cam
I think TH-cam has a list of acceptable subject matter, which doesn't include hobbies unfortunately.

Just looking through everyone's channel in the comments is a very good lesson on how TH-cam actually works. It's also kind of depressing though, seeing good channels and high-production value videos still get low views.

To all those saying TH-cam is in someway Biased or all down to Money, I record myself driving a Truck... I have gained over 12,000 subs in 12 months. The reason why i have grown rather quickly i believe is because of Passion, Dedication, Thinking outside the box & believing in what i'm actually recording.
So many small youtubers you can clearly tell, they want to do TH-cam to be Famous & to earn millions & i'm telling you now, people can see straight through you.
If you record yourself doing something you are passionate about, be it, sewing, dancing, playing with your children, if YOU are enjoying what you are doing, people will enjoy watching you. If you are recording yourself trying to be the next Ninja or Markiplier or Mr Beast, just to become famous or rich, it'll never happen..... Unless you are amazingly talented beyond anything that's already out there.
Thank you for this! I think you are exactly right. I don't think TH-cam to intentionally tries to screw anyone out of the spotlight. I think they give everyone the same tools, and some people just use them more than others.

It's interesting seeing all of the comments of people asking "why am I not getting recommended?" when their channel doesn't follow the most basic fundamentals: enticing thumbnail, interesting title, something that a broad audience would be interested in watching, no personality, etc. Put yourself in someone's shoes who has never heard of you and ask: why would they want to click your video and why would they want to watch the entire thing? If you can't give a good answer, tweak something and see if it works.
Try changing your thumbnail after a week of it being uploaded and then watch the next week of analytics, see if anything changes. Then try a more interesting title, see if anything changes. But a plain/boring thumb or putting the same thumb for many different videos will do nothing for you.
You need to a) grab someone's attention and b) keep their attention. If you fail at either then you fail on YT

sounds great, but I tried it all and still it does not work well :))) someone wrote here - you need to have a friend who works for Goolge, yep, so agree with that :) One channel I was watching, the girl had no good views for years and one day I checked her channel and it was like 50k subs and lot's of views, she mentioned that her husband got a job at Google :)))

LOGIC - I assume it is not easy to make an algorithm logical although I assume you are working hard when you discover the logic in not exact. This is the first time I have heard an explanation of what I have been thinking about clicks. So, your explanation about high and low volume videos and the clicks reinforces my logical thinking. My only question…. are you developers or programmers. Could the logic be less logical once the programmer produces the code? I can only imagine the dialog happening at your workstation. On a personal note. I love that you-all are letting us get more acquainted with TH-cam. Forgive me for being long winded but I love to jabber when an expert reinforces what I was thinking. Wayne Olinger, same here: only I can find and watch my channel. I have a Science background and tend to analyse everything: now I know why some videos are at the top of the search list and some are never to be discovered.

I've posted something very similar to this on about the last 10 of your videos, without a single reply or acknowledgement. Can you just PLEASE allow us to revert back to the old Studio in some form? Or redesign the new Studio somehow to a more efficient, streamlined design? The new comments page is so laggy and slow, it's almost unusable (desktop). I literally get frustrated with it so much that I have to leave the page and stop scrolling through my comments a few times a day because it hangs up, jumps up or down, and is just so slow it's not productive.

The old version worked fine.
I had no problem with it, I never complained. Now you added all these gimmicks to it , I guess to try to show off your talents, or maybe just as busy work to keep your jobs, and have made the basic function of the page unbearable.
No other web site I ever go to makes me wait 3 or 4 seconds to load another 5 or 6 comments like the new studio does. Its really ridiculous to put this out and call it an improvement just because it offers canned replies.
Silly gimmicks at the expense of a functional page.
Please do something to allow quick, easy functionality, even if I have to lose some of the extra features. I just want it to work quickly and efficiently.
Same with the new "uploads" page. Why does it show the scheduled ones first? If I JUST uploaded a video, when done uploading this page appears. But my newly uploaded video is nowhere to be found.... it's buried behind 60 scheduled videos. And the page only displays 30 at a time (I keep changing it to 50, why cant it remember? Another design flaw). I have to go actively look for the video I JUST PUT UP! It should be right there at the top!
At least let me choose the order they are displayed, AND REMEMBER MY CHOICE so it stays like that for my next video! PLEASE!
There are just so many design flaws and poor implementation, I could write several more pages. Please just offer a basic quick form to accomplish the basic tasks the huge majority of users want, and put all the gimmicks and slow loading pages, multiple menus, incessant click-thru-ing, and hidden stats on a separate page for those users who want to deal with such things.

I think they come up with all these new features to keep people on YT longer and thus less time to go to other sites such as facebook. like you said more work (and thus more hours) to do the same thing we did in less time using the old system. My 50 hours a week working 7 days a week to make videos for Yt are not worth it

Here's two things you guys failed to focus on there needs to be some kind of command prompt based AI Control System for TH-cam for TH-cam Studio like you guys could use Gemini or whatever to do it correctly but it needs to be able to do various things like gather data from your videos generate new video transcripts based off of it various other things that could do it could also help you understand from a command prompt or just a prompt things you ask it relative to your TH-cam Analytics😊
Great video! I've wondered if external traffic could hurt a video by lowering AVD. That was great to hear that each context / traffic source of how a video is shown has it's own ranking model and hearing that explained. Thanks for talking about that and explaining that!

If you are new and have no subscribers, what is the initial mechanism for exposure? Is the early activity simply lost in the noise or is there an algorithm which allows exceptional new content from an unestablished creator to propagate?

I understand how all this works, nothing new to me. My problem is the constant fails and inconsistencies in the data collected, and how that's increasing my lack of faith in the system. For example, viewers are watching >5 min of my last 15 min upload, yet the dashboard claimed the audience retention was
Agreed, James. BTW, love your content. The data is so old by the time we see it, it is of no relevance. I have on average 51% retention and I don't get recommended. One bug with data collection is...if someone watches a second time to gather a few details, it lowers overall retention. Speaking of click bait, this video, along with most of what Creator Insider posts. All promise and no substance. Calling it algorithm is a joke, I call it a tally. Why do I bother?

Hello, I don't have the feature on my account is it possible to activate it so that I can test and provide feedback? I recently have a video go viral and have a general understanding of the mechanisms that drove the consumption of the video I just want more information. Also Thumbnail A/B testing would be phenomenal!
It doesn't just make it hard, it makes it impossible. As a creator, we have NO way of determining how to improve our content.
let face it... recommend is so random that it getting pointless.. just made 40 se video.. since it as waste of time... since most of my audience like them.. they still only watch 10 second before get to the next one.....

After around four years on TH-cam I am at the same point I've been since nearly the beginning. My videos aren't recommended or maybe get a couple recommendations when they are. Sure, I get a occasional spike, but unless I upload daily I don't make any gains. In fact I did a test, uploaded daily for just over a month, then didn't upload for a while. The reach dropped to normal levels a day or two after the last video, then completely tanked to less than twenty recommendations a day until I had posted a few more videos. These aren't per video numbers, this is total for the channel. I have videos no one has ever watched, or has less than ten views. A good example, I posted a video for Vampyr two days after it came out. It has had 96 total impressions since uploading (June 5, 2018), 15 of those were the day after the video was released.That series has several unwatched videos. It seems only 'advertiser friendly' videos get recommended, unless you're a big enough channel.
My channel is not big by any means but self-promotion helps raise your numbers. When I drop a video, I'll normally share it to every social media platform that I'm on. Maybe this can help you as well.

hey dude , i just started a few weeks ago and i am doing good, you have to work hard in the start . you can't just upload and wait, try and self promo on discord etc until u have a good number of subs . dont give up
thumbnails... zoom them... most views impressively come from mobile and in there things are tiny, make your thumbnails more vibrant, colorful or they will just be another thumbnail in the middle of so many. , also i recommend you add your logo to the thumbnails, after all you have to treat your channel like a brand, and this brand needs to be recognized by your fans :)

most of the subs I have are from a discord I'm in. I've used twitter since before they removed the auto post from the creator studio. my twitter, youtube, and twitch are cross linked and I just made a instagram last night for images related to certain videos I've done, though there isn't anything there yet. my problem is low reach + low watch time = low growth. if I could figure out the 'why' for the low watch time then the rest would most likely solve itself.
Some of these subjects are super important, but for someone who is not that analytics savvy, it is still hard to understand what the analytics are actually telling you... It would be awesome if there were a section where we can learn about each different analytic and what to do about them. If you already have a section like that, would you please point me in the right direction? Thank you!
I think a feature that everyone I believe will LOVE would be a 3 Notifications button that you can click to send notifications out to Subscribers.. the kicker is that we get to choose what videos get a notification based on what the creator believes will have the Best Interest of subscribers. We know that it's up to 3 notifications per 24 hours...sooo let us make that decision since WE know our viewers more than TH-cam!

I just started my "channel" in 2020 but I had been using this platform mostly for eBay listings and a few other videos for a while. But I am 58+ years old and I had my concerns about AGE. But in my particular subject matter, there are a lot of older people who are quite popular, so I happy just making my crazy little videos and touching base with some more like minded folks!
We had a video last week that was getting hundreds and thousands of views right from the get go. It was external from google. You'll be able to see which video easily by looking at our channel.
We had this video scheduled weeks in advance so am wondering if that had any impact? It lasted for a few days but seems to be dying off now though. We've got our next 7 videos for the next 4 weeks already scheduled so we'll see what happens with those.
Why 4000 watched hours/per year? What's the logic there? It's so hard for a small TH-camr like myself to reach such goal.
It's hurting TH-cam more than it hurts you, but its required so that it takes more time for us to reach the goal and so that means fewer channels for review
I have about 5000h watchtime per month and do not earn enough money to pay my electricity bill...
So if you can't even get 4000 hours a year, you're not missing anything...
Just enjoy making great content and the views and watchtime will come by itself!

Good video ! I have a question about rebranding a channel. I made a "hard break" and switched from one topic to a completely different one. I see it affects AVD , CTR and basically all metrics, which I expected. Still it's hard to stay motivated if you keep producing and most of your old subs don't watch the content. How do I go best about this (hopefully short term) setback on the channel and do you have some tips for rebranding?

I have the handle @Chief and even though I've put it in the title and description of all my videos, when I search @Chief and look under channels, I see hundreds of other channels with less subscribers than mine, before I ever see mine.Please help!
Very helpful video, thank you. Something I wonder about is the affect of having many low performing videos in a row after high performing videos. As a gaming channel I sometimes post a series that doesn't do as well as I would hope and that means 10 or so low performing videos in a row if I finish the game. When I go back to a game that I know my audience as a whole enjoys will those videos be negatively affected due to the previous game series? If you could answer this in a future video or here I would really appreciate it! Thanks again.
Probably better to terminate a series of low performing products of course it will affect the future and the current. Although since the work has been done probably better to just leave them there will be some that will still enjoy them. You’ll just have to avoid making similar low performing content. And I know it’s frustrating I’m in the same boat.
Hi Faylen, the performance of your past videos should not impact the discovery of your new uploads. The recommendation system looks at each individual video and how well viewers respond to it when it's offered to them in their recommendations. This helps us match every viewer to the videos they're most likely to watch and enjoy. Hope that helps!

@@ziakhan1070 A/B testing is a method of comparing the performance of, in this case, two identical videos, where the thumbnails are different for both. To see which thumbnail version that has a greater success rate compared to the other. So, you might try different approaches on the thumbnails and settle on the one that gets the most attention and is pulling viewers into your video.
