    Your reach is the entire TH-cam Creator Community. You have a direct and exclusive line to MILLIONS of creators. Yet your videos barely get 20K views. Crazy how people that work at TH-cam also don't know how to get more views. Why is that?

    • @Gamezopher
      @Gamezopher 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Probably because they don't show their video in the youtube features and homepage. I've found their video from the dashboard.

      Maybe it's because most creators are too lazy to want to learn how to improve..... Instead, they spend their time complaining about not getting views 🤙 😉

This was much better than hearing things about the old studio going away because we already know that and I am already using the new studio. My Home Page experience is very bad. Tell me why: When I watch an uncommon Video (eg I want to buy a new phone and watch a video about this phone instead usual gaming content) the whole home page is almost only consisting of phone videos. It takes me day to get rid off the phone test videos.
    It seems to trigger the algorithm especially if you watch a video from a category you usually do not watch, but this is not what I want and it takes too long ( I almost have to click on around 40 videos that Im not interested) to get rid off these suggestions until everything is back to normal.
    To avoid this i started to watch uncommon videos in private mode in my browser to avoid getting my home page trashed with irrelevant videos.
    Also Videos I already watched are suggested over and over again. If this would be a music video, I could understand this behaviour, but I also get this on non music videos.

    • @shittyplayer4724
      @shittyplayer4724 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A way to fix it is to delete the video from your "history," or whenever one of those videos show up on your home screen, click the thing that says "not interested." Good luck!

    • @Polenth
      @Polenth 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can remove specific videos from your watch history, which seems to tell the algorithm that you really aren't interested in more of this.

      Try Jimmy Kimmel and you might as well watch ABC. TH-cam wants to be a TV channel and with their most simple algorithm which is programmed like a child. It will go to the parent that gives out sweets. TH-cam produces the most unlike videos on their own platform. I rest my case...

    Thank you again, Todd, for this video, Rachel did really good in presenting and explaining being her first time.
    I learn so much today, about being getting discovered. I was always frustrated that my videos were just being recommended and wanted to be on suggested instead on the home page even though they have a 14% - 10% clickthrough rate. Now I know it really does not matter which one, our videos will not be more successful on suggested than the home page. Also, the home page is more of an advantage due to the large size thumbnails. I tell you, I will never complain about TH-cam again 8 billion information gathered every day is enough to make me appreciate this platform more and know there’s a lot of work that goes into our videos being suggested or recommended to the right viewer 😊💕

    The difference between HOME & SUGGESTED is that on home consumers don't know what GENRE to consume, but on suggested they already know the GENRE and they want more of "that"!

  • @DrKendoCommentaries
    @DrKendoCommentaries 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I should start by saying, I actually really love TH-cam & I believe in the power of the platform and its creators. Now, I've had an issue with large traffic dwindling from my channel when it was thriving in 2014-2018, but TH-cam changed how "Suggested" is done in 2019, as my channel really died. It just doesn't seem like coincidence, and that analytics show it, since in the thriving years I would get 70% of my traffic from the "Suggested" section.
    Nowadays, the way Suggested works, you could be watching a video about Pokemon and see Jimmy Fallon be Suggested - obviously, that's mainly if you've had a history of watching Jimmy Fallon, but those two topics are not related. Suggested Videos used to be a great way for viewers to find creators who covered the topic they were already watching a video about (example would be watching a video about Pokemon, and then a Pokemon-related video from a different creator is in the Suggested section), well above what Home/Browser has the capacity to do.

    • @InfoWarrior
      @InfoWarrior 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curious as to what your suggested rate is now, mine currently sits at a whopping 6.5% which almost exactly coincides with the 5.1% on TH-cam search, the massive bulk of my audience is from Browse features at 51.4%

    • @DrKendoCommentaries
      @DrKendoCommentaries 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@InfoWarrior I'm around 35% Browse and 30% Suggested when I look at the last 365 days, but it dwindles more and more as you get closer to the last 28 days, where Suggested is around 20% and Search is higher with Browse still in the lead.
      Suggested used to be *huge* for discoverability because I covered the topics people were wanting to see, had awesome meta-data, and an original series that I displayed all of those trending topics with, so TH-cam rewarded that kind of thing by Suggesting my videos alongside larger creators and my videos proved to be "worth it" because there was a lot of retention & growth there for a long time. That pretty much stopped almost dead in its tracks at the start of 2019 when they changed how Suggested works, sadly :(

    • @InfoWarrior
      @InfoWarrior 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrKendoCommentaries and yet despite my 9 minute average watch time I am still less than a third of that 20 percent.... Thanks for the response always looking for real insights.

    • @DrKendoCommentaries
      @DrKendoCommentaries 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InfoWarrior Yeah, 9 minutes is great, haha; my audience retention graphs show usually about an average of 2-3 minutes of a 10-minute video are being watched. So somewhere in that 25-30% range retention.

Now, I was always under the impression from the TH-cam Gurus and TubeBudy and many others showing us how to grow our channels that TAGS were important, but that last notice appears to be the opposite so, please clarify? Request for enhancement so that big channels can assist smaller ones and viewers can discover new content they like: How about a section for channels with 1k+ subs, to list say 10 channels that they think deserve a mention? Then a viewer of a successful channel can get connected to smaller quality channels which are on topic.

      I have found TH-cam is NOT in the business of helping you grow, that's not their job, that's your job. Their job is to provide you with a platform for YOU to grow your channel and get people to go to your channel Your job is to produce videos that people will search for and watch. If the video is of interest to a huge audience they'll find it in a search. If it's a really interesting video people with share it and your channel will grow. Of course TH-cam will post your video but after that it's up to you to get it noticed. You can do that by: 1. Making the video interesting to a group of people. 2. Use other social media to get people to at least look at your video and know it's there, ie. Facebook, Pinterest & Forum's related to your topic.
      Me on my small channel, I don't overly care if I grow that fast. I make a broad range of videos from: Vehicle repairs to electronic test equipment repairs to WWII aircraft at airshows. I don't expect to grow into a huge channel because of the way it's organized. I didn't design it to make a lot of money. I designed my channel to put up videos I thought SOME people might find interesting and helpful. For me If so great, if not oh well. I mean that's ok if that's what a person wants out of YT. YT is a great place to start a business and make some cash. I did look at your channel, I think you have a great start, keep going and you'll find what your viewers like and what they don't. Competition is Stiff at best, stick with it long enough and you'll figure it out. Best Wishes, Blessings. & success to you on your channel. Keith Noneya

    Thank you so much Todd and Rachel for all the great information you provided to us creators on YT with this video. I'm not trying to undermine TH-cam's human resource initiative with this comment, but I really like the way you two interacted during your presentations. Are you allowed to create you own Channel with after-hours effort? You both already have great camera presence, and I see some underlying skill there in terms comedic banter that would go over very well. Anyway, I was already subscribed, but on this one I hit the 'Like', and of course I watched all the way through, so keep coming on and entertaining us as well as import great useful content. Now I'm behind on my video work today, so that is the fault of you two :)

    My cousin works in SEO (search engine optimization) and here is a nugget of wisdom from her: recommendation was that every serious content creator (be it a podcast, youtube, etc.) should be generating traffic from multiple online sources. This means, "build a website" and then optimize for google search terms. So, like a blog, web store, something like that. This is a starting place that almost anyone can accomplish. It is a lot easier than getting on a radio station or something like that. You place links to your youtube videos in the top of your blog entry. It's 21st century marketing 101. Expecting TH-cam to do the marketing for you by algorithmically recommending your content to viewers is a really new concept in general, and I think because the platform skews fairly young, creators may not understand the idea that you kind of have to do the legwork of branding and marketing yourself if you ever want to be taken seriously. Look at a lot of the channels that have millions of views. Most of them place links to their websites (often multiple different websites for their other projects) in their video descriptions. I do this as a hobby, make videos for myself first and viewers second. But I'm thinking of flipping this around, taking it more seriously - and a website with blog entries containing links to my videos is going to be the first stop. It's a nice revolving door for you; people can discover your website via your youtube channel, and people can discover your youtube channel via your website. Word of mouth works better when people have multiple avenues to find you. Throw in merch, affiliate links and subscriber exclusive content that are independent between sites and now you've generated multiple income streams that are less dependent on rote viewer counts.

    One thing I'm a bit curious about: If you upload a video, but untick the box saying "notifiy subscribers and post on subscription feed" (don't remember the exact phrase, it could be slightly different), will the algorithm treat that video differently - in other search/discovery aspects as well - than those that keep the box ticked?

      Hi! We've tested this many times, and the results consistently show that limiting the default view to subscriptions dramatically reduces how much subscribers watch and come back to TH-cam. By defaulting to Home, we can better deliver the videos that each viewer is most likely to watch and enjoy, this includes but is not limited to videos from subscriptions.

    In my case, the types of videos I see in the suggested videos section of my analytics aren't changing enough. It's just a bunch of stuff that ties to old videos of mine that were already popular and even when I post other videos in the same general category as those videos, those videos often underpreform by comparison so this is pretty much completely useless information.

    • @rhomzi
      @rhomzi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it is completely useless information. Remember they mentioned do not focus so much on where the traffic comes from and on creating quality videos. However, to answer your question I think you are trying to get new suggested video views to the new videos you are publishing ? That is difficult to achieve, they mentioned an interesting concept of co-watching and what they did not mention was that you can influence this via end cards or i cards within your video. Though it is effective with high traffic, meaning a video getting 100 views with 10 clicks on a particular video on an end card will not impact suggested video views via co-watching. Also, try linking your old popular video, if they still get traffic to the new videos you publish if they are of similar topic and see if users have high CTR via end cards

    I understand what you say about finding videos for viewers when they turn up, but how does that sit with the 'Info Tip' "You can increase the chance of TH-cam suggesting your content by increasing your click-through rate and your video watch time."?
    If no one who may want to watch my video actually can, because they don't know it exists, how will they ever find out if you never suggest it? We can't increase the "chance of TH-cam suggesting" because we can't increase the CTR or watch time because no one is watching it.
    Now, it doesn't particularly bother me as 72% of my views come from Search and I'm not trying to be a TH-camr.

  • @CookingSkinny

    As a TH-cam user (versus creator) I find that it can be really difficult to find content that I am searching for using the current methods with the algorithm. Would it be possible to expand a menu search, where the search can be done via specific categories, like TH-cam Music, but for a wider variety of topics like automobile, DIY, product reviews, cooking, crafts, comedies, bloggers, horror flicks, cosplay, etc. that way viewers could go directly to the broader topic to be able to search videos without the limitations of the algorithm?

    • @creatorinsider

      Hi there, P-scores are not used by Search and Discovery. P-Score is a metric used to determine who is eligible for Google Preferred. You can read more about P-Score here: youtube.googleblog.com/2019/05/2019-brandcast-stage-highlights.html. What matters for Search and Discovery is each viewer's individual relationship to a channel. While there is an option to set where is the location of the video, it would be great if there is some feature where you want your videos to be viewed by whom, where etc.

    When you guys were talking about the "up next" suggested videos, I was thinking about the queue feature, which I personally use VERY often. Mom & I watch TH-cam every day, we don't even have TV anymore. Before, on my slow laptop, I'd open a few tabs of videos while keeping home open so we can binge, but the queue helps so much with that.
    I was wondering, will we (or can we already) see analytics about how viewers use the queue feature with our own uploads? It would be nice to see if anyone puts my own videos into a queue to binge with other videos, or multiple of my my own videos. Maybe how often my videos are added to a queue & if engagement with the video (likes/shares/comments/etc) increase or decrease when videos are in a queue. Maybe how many times multiples of my videos are added to the same queue too.
