I'm guessing the Michter's American is on your list because you're used to drinking higher proof and more flavorful whiskey. I personally think it's great for people just getting into whiskey because it's a very easy sipper. But I don't reach for it anymore either. 🤷🏻♂️
Received a Noah's Miil as a gift, tried to like it for 2 yrs. Ended up using it in a couple custom blends and an infinity bottle. High proof does always deliver insure taste.
I agree in the Penelope full proof toasted. I actually liked their lower proof toasted better. My wife bought that for me by mistake. Weird I generally like their higher proof stuff. I don’t disagree with most of your picks but I think most people agree on many companies lower proof cheaper buys that you listed. Those almost don’t need to be talked about. They are most peoples gateways into bourbon

What I love about you guys is you constantly save me money. Avoided so many disappointing bottles. Also love store picks as they let you try it and you know it is a hitter. Only disappointing bottle has been MM 46 cask strength.
Most of my regrets come from bottles that don't actually taste bad, but just drink way too hot. Things like Old Forester single barrels, Larceny BP or 1792 FP. Jefferson Tropics was also basically a $40 markup on a bottle of Jefferson Reserve.
I'm with you on the Tin Cup 14. the 10yr is always on my shelf and the 14 has never beat it in a head to head. Although, it's only about $23 more here in Colorado and always on the shelves. The only other regret recently was an ASW Resurgence Rye pick (finished in Port)...way too much like Balcones Rye for my liking.
You are spot on on the Benchmark. It's just really watery and lacking flavor. One bottle I regretted buying is Old Forester 1910. To me, it tasted like artificial oak flavored syrup. Interestingly, mixing it 50/50 with the Benchmark 8 made for a palatable pour.
I’d give the Penelope Toasted another chance. I had a bottle that smelled and tasted like kerosene down to the level you were at. I put it away for about three months and came back to very nice orange and citrus notes. It was very enjoyable after sitting those months.
Anything amburana I’ve had has been terrible. Definitely not my jam. Tastes like saddle wood incense. Jefferson’s Cabernet cask was way too wine forward too.
My regrets are Penelope Architect French Oak yuck and Four Roses Select. Life is too short to drink bad whiskey one was given away the other down the drain.

Doc Swinson's Amburana finish (Bosso Nova?) ... wow, I sure wish I'd been able to try it first. I'm sure its great, but it absolutely destroyed my palate for a week. Hanger queen now.
291 M Colorado whiskey was horrible. I bought it when everyone was hyping up honey and maple finished whiskey. I agree with Old Elk, the only one I liked was their wheat whiskey.
Guess I’m fortunate that last Fall when at FT Nelson, my M10 bourbon package came with US1 bourbon not the American Whiskey. Don’t hate the American Whiskey, just don’t drink it ahead of all the other Michters I have. Fine in cocktails though!
Had a pour of Old Elk at a BBQ & Bourbon joint (because they were out of my 1st three choices on their menu 😕) and it seemed pretty good. Bought a bottle and have yet to enjoy it. Has a harsh ethenol note, and that's at only 88 proof.
U have to have a bad bottle or something. I’ve got TC 14 batch one and two and they are excellent. My entire bourbon group loves them both. To each their own I guess.

Higher aged stuff doesn't generally appeal to me unless it is higher proof. I knew that when I bought it, but I took a chance anyway. I'm glad to hear that you have enjoyed it though. It just isn't for me. Like you said, to each their own.
I have come to like it more than I did initially, but Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye was something that got great reviews and everyone seems to like, but I just don’t care for it. It tastes as though it’s spoiled to me. I’m grateful I didn’t pay a lot for it, but I definitely paid more than I would have preferred for something I dislike this much. I don’t get what people like about this . . . cool cork?
Woodford Double Oaked, OF 1910 just better at the same $. Basil Hayden, sooooo many people said they like it, I don't. It will be for guests. Ben Holladay BiB, it's good just not $60 good, I have bottles from $21-40 that are just better.
I like Peerless; and think Baker's 7 is decent. But not a fan of Smoke Wagon UCUF, and KY Spirit was not as good as WT Rare Breed, so not worth the money IMO.
@@jeffnuzz Totally agree about Rare Breed. Why spend more for an inferior product? I need to revisit the Peerless. Mine is just the small batch bourbon, not a single barrel. Maybe it has opened up. I tried it twice right after I bought it and haven’t been back since. It’s probably been a year or so since I had it.
I found a Nick Offerman 2019 Lagavulin for 30 under MSRP, I had never really tried much scotch before, but for that price on what was reviewed as a decent pour you know it had to come home with me...but it turns out my tongue only tastes burning muddy logs and band-aids.
Agreed on Old Elk. Only the double wheat was good. Cigar blend? Meh. My regrets: American Highway, Off Hours, World Whiskey Society port finish, Heaven’s Door Refuge, Blanton’s, Eastern Kille toasted barrel, French Lick M Gladden (store pick), Journeyman Not a King, Watershed single barrel.
Only 3 bottles i regret, and davidson reserve, balconies straight bourbon and baby blue balconies. They are terrible, couldn't mix with anything. Just end up giving them away and cant believe y'all put penelope toasted and benchmark on this list.
I traded a MWND for a Blue Run Golden Rye. Worst trade ever. All of the whiskeytubes were going crazy about it. It is stunningly mediocre. Also Barrell Infinity Barrel. Just bad. Y’all paid over twice what I payed for Tin Cup 14. I’d be upset, too.

In Michigan we can't get the benchmark series, only number 8.
Chicago just got the full line up last week hopefully they are just expanding slowly so they can produce enough it's shelf stable

New Riff single barrel select. I like the straight bourbon BiB much better and $10t less.
