    I've always been torn to choose a specific witchy "label" because I identify with so many of them. Kitchen witch, sea witch, etc. Most people call me a green witch because I'm gardening, learning to preserve food, keeping animals, learning about herbalism, giving water to bees in summer, and have a tendency to wander through the woods hugging trees, lol. After watching this and hearing your explanation of Green Witchery, I guess I can agree that I am a green witch.

    • @Thewitchescookery
      @Thewitchescookery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I also can never subscribe to just one label 😄 (I do for the sake of TH-cam algorithm haha but in real life, I just call myself a plain old witch hehe...) And yes! The mushroom is wonderful - it was used since ancient on. I do think, they also found pieces of it with the iceman aka Ötzi - a mummified body from 3350 B.C. they found in the alps

      I too cannot wear a witchy label. I can honestly say too many can be used to describe my practices and what I teach in my Circle.
      I am very fortunate that all of my Coven members are my family by blood or by Rite of Marriage . (2 nephews , myself , & my hubby , & their wives). Because we are family we have Sunday dinner at my place every week and then we have what my hubby calls "Pagan Sunday School" . LoL
      But yeah , Green , Ceremonial , Garden , Herbal , too many to describe the ways I do things. I also spent 20yrs adapting a very Eclectic Wiccan Tradition around my own Native American Culture " Chicka-Wicca" is what 1 of my nephew's calls it. I am Chickasaw Indian Nation , so I add a whole new strand to the Web.
      Blessed Be
      Much love from Oklahoma

      So would you call urself eclectic?

    • @13MoonsOverMayhem
      @13MoonsOverMayhem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jwilfinger2838 I usually just call myself a witch. I don’t seem to have a need to narrow it down. Other people seem to need to label me further in order to make sense of it. I think it’s just easier for people to picture in their heads what I might do if they can apply it to a category. Kitchen witches cook, green witches plant and hug trees, healers grow herbs and make potions, sea hags work with tides and the moon and water dwelling creatures, etc. I do all of that and a lot more. But, I just do whatever feels right and makes sense at any given time.

    I love this video! 🧡 You are always such a breath of fresh air to listen to.
    Today in my corner of the world we had an ice storm and everything- the roads, the ground- is covered in a solid sheet of ice. You can’t walk at all without falling. I’m not exaggerating you literally cannot take a single step. School was canceled today as well. So I couldn’t go out and forage for witch hazel twigs like I had planned!
    I planted my indoor herb garden last week and already my calendula and borage have germinated. It brings me so much happiness to see that it’s possible to foster life inside the home, and your video reminded me that the life outside is just dormant and hasn’t gone anywhere! Thank you so much for the inspiration🌹🌺🌿🌱 Wishing you all the best!

    I feel a lot of the green witch aspects are something I have done quite naturally in life. Have my Mother to thank for that.
    I also love cooking and baking so 'kitchen witch' is probably a label of mine and I love trying your recipes.
    Maybe when I have more of my own space I can try more things like potion crafting etc. and explore my craft more. I've been reading tarot semi regularly for 8years...8YEARS!? now and I suppose it is the most regularly 'purposeful' witchy thing that I do. As in, it is not done subconsciously.

    I've been thinking a lot recently how really out of touch with the Earth I am (both as the element and to our beautiful planet as well). I've been thinking of ways that I can try to reconnect; I had dreams once of having a large herbal and vegetable garden, but considering I'm absolutely awful at raising plants that's probably a no go for me lol. Right now I think the best thing to do is just start spending more time outside (I'm a very guilty house hermit) sitting outside on my patio, going to the local park, or even the forestry nearby. That and try to make more of an effort to make more eco-conscious decisions in my daily life. Lovely video as always, I truly enjoyed it.

    • @marysommers2299
      @marysommers2299 ปีที่แล้ว

      I firmly believe everyone can grow plants. There are no 'brown thumbs'. It is just a negative mindset. I had a friend that way once. I brought her some of my favourite plants and taught her to believe in herself and be positive. She got quite good with plants. I've been telling a lot of others that being positive towards ones plants will have them growing--plants can feel the negative thoughts, so think green positive thoughts!

    A mindset of being part of nature instead of separate from nature is how my brain is now. I'm still learning and growing. Guilty of mass consumption in the past. I find for myself I'm so thankful for your videos and down to earth approach. Thanks for the heads up on the shoes . I live in the Ozarks and have only bought my crystals from a shop that digs them up in Arkansas. It's on my bucket list to go dig for crystals myself one day. Loved the video. Living my magical life unlabeled.

    How inspiring and so rich with ideas of what to do with what you find in nature. I like the habit of giving things back. Here in Canada children and childlike adults have been painting on stone and leaving them everywhere in the woods.

      Oooh so nice to hear - We do that here too! Especially during the pandemic a lot of people would go hunt for the colored stones and leave one in return with a picture or inspirational quote, or make long rows and pictures with them. Such a lovely thing!

    Mary morning,
    I'm glad to have stumbled upon this video. I realize I'm a Green Witch for sure.
    Whenever a new plant or seedling shows itself in the my yard, I allow it to grow to see just what will come to be...so exciting!
    All my ingredients are fruits, spices, herbs, and the like. I can't use any smoke due to my wife is highly allergic. I can't use smoke either. Now, I did use tea candles and I have either extinguish it out side or allow it to burn completely out.
    Anyway, I'm glad to continue learning everyday about the Craft. I do agree that a Witch is a Witch regardless of the label, however, I do like the title "Green Witch."

    I have a book called Gardening and Planting by the Moon by Nick Kollerstrom. It separates each type of planting by the cycle of the moon. You see on the calender when the moon passes in front of the stars of one of 3 planets linked to the earth element (zodiac)Root days relate to earth signs, like carrots and potatoes. Next are leaf days=water plants and air signs. Lettuce and other leafy crops. Next, flower days=air signs. Broccoli and corn are 2 examples. Last is the fire signs=flower. Tomatoes beans and peas. The book is from 2008 but the calender can be used for any year. Ive had sucess using this method though it takes a lot of planning. I use a notebook. I also get my seeds from Territorial which have never disappointed me.

    Loved this! As an Eclectic (honestly, too many labels apply for me including Green, hah!) witch starting a garden helped me so much to get in tune with the seasons. I remember, mid July, working in my garden and suddenly feeling the vibe of fall around. This happened again, recently, while taking a walk in the forest and suddenly feeling spring vibes around. It also made me want to hibernate, then plan during this winter.

    Lovely video with such great tips. I chuckled at your mention of zucchini and eating them for weeks at harvest time. It sounds like people really get creative with zucchini there! (Also reminded me of "zoodles" , the low carb noodles made of zucchini. Made me think maybe I ought to try my hand at growing some zucchini of my own... haha). I think it's great that so many companies now are trying to make things from the excessive amounts of plastic in the world - I hadn't seen shoes before, but what a good idea! (This also reminded me of a site I have bought some reusable things from called 4Ocean. They actually harvest plastic from the ocean and make it into the items they sell. I don't work for them or anything, just seeing the shoes reminded me of it so I decided to mention it.) Thank you again for your tips, ideas, energy and encouragement, as well as for letting those not in your area see things like your bring your own jars shopping and the like. I think it would be great if we had more of that here in the US.

      Oooh I forgot about the copious amounts of zoodles haha but I do really enjoy them with a fresh avocado and basil pesto and some sun-dried tomatoes and feta 🤤 (totally want zucchini now haha) I was also super excited about the shoes because I had never heard of something like that! Thank you so much for the 4Ocean recommendation - totally gonna check that out now! Always love to hear more tips on being eco-friendly!

    I love and am quite drawn to Pines and Cedars and feel sad that i have to be very careful around (allergy tab) last year had a severe reaction and ended up with Christmas tree rash taking almost 4 mth to get rid of and now am a little too careful in my gardens (scared maybe?) Is there any suggestions that can still somehow include it in life with out having the reactions? I have asked if there are subs from my family but they all come up with the same thing :( thank your videos and the time in making them :) :)

    • @Thewitchescookery
      @Thewitchescookery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that is unfortunate! I can't really think of a safe way of using or working with them if you are allergic 😞 unless, you would seak treatment for your allergy. Personally I was really allergic to birch and alder tree and I did a desensitisation / allergen immunotherapy treatment with my doctor where you take drops of the concentrated allergens under your tongue (or get them injected) for a couple of months and my allergy now is completely gone. (Luckily, because I live surrounded by birch trees now haha) But I don't know if that is an option for you and your specific allergies.
