My best anxiety moment was during a hike in switzerland at a canyon. The path was maybe like 2 feet wide with no safety. To our right was a 200 meter drop into the canyon and to our left was a big as wall (from the mountain). The path continued like this for about a mile. Fun experience.
I can relate
Yeah I'd turn back! I wouldn't walk along that! 😂
I was in a car with two other people to see that one really high mountain in colorado(pikes peak I think it was) and i was HORRIFIED. I feared for my life that day like no other. I was crying and stressing because my phobia of heights and my anxiety going off like crazy plus I have adhd so everything that i felt was worse because of me noticing things so much i had an overload of emotions and stimulation.
I like hikes, but I would have died internally.
Found out I was scared of heights when I camped at the top of El Capitan in Yosemite. 3,000 feet above the Valley floor (900+ meters). Had a full on panic attack, crying my eyes out, but was just as terrified of going back down so I stayed for a day and just pitched my tent as far from the edge as possible. It was rough, though I wasn’t actually close enough to the edge to be in real danger. Sure felt like it though. I also nearly fell off the side of a path similar to the one you’re describing, in the Grand Canyon, but with drops on either side. I threw my weight forward at the last second and wound up face planting in the dirt. Never been so happy to wind up with scratches and bruises all over me, but I was incredibly relieved not to have fallen off. I was not having a good time walking back lol, and after that I hung back anytime my tour group went to an overlook. It didn’t help that I’d found a book in the gift shop that detailed every death that had ever happened in the park. Absolutely fucked me up for a while, I can’t imagine why anyone thought it was a good idea for a book.
It was beautiful though, and if I ever get the opportunity I’d love to visit the Grand Canyon again. I’d just steer clear of any drop offs. It’s still absolutely stunning from far away.

New England is notorious for falling rock signs on most major roads, since they're blasted through rock/mountains.
So yeah, having learned what those signs meant as a kid, fully justified in being afraid of borders being inbound from any steep incline...
My mom had a friend who rode a motorcycle with his gang (dont ask) and one day his wife called her saying he got in a horrible accident. I was maybe five or six, and when we got to the house he was in a hospital bed with severe burns all over his body. They said he wouldn't live very long, so we went to give him his medicine, and some stuff to make him more relaxed and comfortable. He got in the accident from doing a wheelie along a highway, but when he went to go back down his bike went sideways and he flew under his bike, getting burned from the asphalt and the gas from the bike. Don't wheelie to show off kids, and remember to wear proper equipment when biking.

The guy telling that person who was sitting on the boulder to move closer to the edge was probably hoping for their life insurance.
I have literally been at a popular place with a sheer cliff, heard people screaming and found out someone had fell. The screams of him being moved so emergency services to airlift him will stay with me forever. And it was because he was sitting too close to get a better picture. Not worth it. I've discovered my genuine fear of being trapped under water. The fact the person recording didn't put their hand or something through the hole as a signal, after seeing he was lost, was ridiculous.
I don't think he would be able to see it anyway, since it's freezing water and you would keep your eyes shut.
