"Know this, relentless enemy, killer of all children, lord of admirals. Soon we will face the enemy you have faced... and we are afraid." This is absolutely legendary.
Yeah as seen in the books the Lord of Admirals was a dick but the Didact did respect him. A copy of the Lord was awakened in the mind of a human named Chakas after he, another human named Riser and a young Forerunner named Bornstellar rescued the Didact from a similar Cryptum on Earth 100,000 years ago. The Lord of Admirals had been executed through the Composer and the Librarian had placed copies of his mind and the people who had been Composed in humanity's genetic code as part of her plans. Meeting the Didact and traveling with him awakened Forthencho (because that's his actual name) and his copy actually tried to side with the Flood on Installation 07 in a final effort to defeat the Forerunners. Didn't work but he survived in the mind of Chakas, transformed into 343 Guilty Spark, for over a hundred thousand years. Spark got rid of him for good between the events of the Forerunner Saga books and his rescue during Halo: Renegades in 2557 where Spark teamed up with the crew of a salvage ship led by the daughter of John Forge from Halo Wars who was searching for her father and the Spirit of Fire.
7:21 The really ironic thing about the entire Human-Forerunner and especially the Forerunner-Flood Wars is that none of it would have happened if the Forerunners hadn't betrayed the Precursors and stolen the Mantle of Responsibility for themselves. They are technically responsible for all the suffering that happened after the Precursor-Forerunner War.
The precursors were literal gods. They transformed into the flood to stop the forerunners, were successful, and then caused the forerunners to build and fire the rings.
@@TheFoxfourty8 They mutated into the Flood. Since the Precursors were being wiped out they changed into a dust form to preserve themselves while they waited it out. While in that form they unintentionally mutated since they were dust for a LONG time and that was when the humans discovered the vials they were in. Humans learned that applying that dust on their animals (pets) and it changed their behavior and physical traits positively. After a while the pets began to become deformed, eat themselves, and the infection started the Flood.
I personally enjoyed the story of H4, but sometimes I wonder if they forced the whole Spartan Locke and band of forgettable bingbongs onto H5 because they wanted to show off face-capture motion technology hur dur more than continue Master Chief's story and the Forerunner business. H5 felt like a very hollow filler episode.
"Do I take life or give it? Who is victim, and who is foe?" "Child of my enemy, why have you come? I offer no forgiveness, a father's sins, passed to his son." "I am a timeless chorus. Join your voice with mine, and sing victory everlasting." "Do not be afraid. I am peace; I am salvation." "Resignation is my virtue; like water I ebb, and flow. Defeat is simply the addition of time to a sentence I never deserved... but you imposed."
@@link0931 hahah maybe (?) I do not sympathise with the method. Bit indeed Gravemind has a trascendental way to see life, as an amcient being he is, so...I can't deny I like him😅😅
0:27 I like how these three's viewpoints change later. The librarian wants humans to be eradicated, which is contrary to the mantle and to her rate. The didact wants them to ally with the ecumene and doesn't want to wage war on them, which is contrary to his rate and his future attitude towards humans. Finally, the master builder agrees to follow the mantle, but in the future he decides to create the halos, use said halos on the homeworld of the prophets, and cruelly experiment on humans on installation 07.
I love how the Master Builder's answer to objections that Halos defied their "protect life" doctrine was to essentially grow gardens on them. Like planting flowers on a rifle to argue "it's a tool to support life!" Such a scummy spit-in-the-face loophole it blows my mind. No wonder their creators considered them a mistake
It should be said that war with Ancient Humanity and the desperation of Forerunners after centuries of defeat at the hands of the Flood, along with thousands of failed plans. Lead the last Forerunners down their final paths.
@@TK199999 Ancient Humanity was deemed worthy of the mantle because they chose to sacrifice their own people in an attempt to stop the flood. The forerunner were selfish and sacrificed others to stop the flood.
@@KrayZGames Exactly and that's why the flood pulled back from attacking them. Forerunners devolving humanity after winning their war was what really pissed the flood off.
Halo has such a rich expanded universe, it's a shame that it never convincingly conveys everything that is going on in it's campaign. Most casual players will only experience Halo through the eyes of chief and be oblivious to back story and lore of the Halo universe.
***** Sorry to hear that, but I'm glad you like Halo :) It really seems like the only people who like cod but hate Halo are douchebags, aka people with no creativity who wish they were badass soldiers but would piss themselves if presented with any real danger. cod has no story. Halo has an extremely deep and well-written story. cods about 'kill the bad guys, blow up everything', Halo is about unity and what we can achieve when we come together.
Hmm, well, you never know. That'd actually be really awesome, with ship v ship combat as well as ground combat against the flood and forerunners, maybe even bringing in the alliance with the san shyum?
So, in Halo 5 they took the badass Didact and threw his character out the proverbial window to make way for a half-assed Cortana villain. ...Srsly bruh?
the didact got 3 books, numerous terminals and comics to tell his story before he entered the game, warden eternal got like a sentence, and then another towards the end of the game. Such engaging character development!
For all of you out there who ask the question "Why didn't the humans just warn the Forerunners" here is the answer: The political situation at the time was extremely dangerous. Humans were expanding at an alarming rate and being a naturally violent species didn't exactly help relations either. The Forerunners saw humanity as an affront to the Mantle, much like the Covenant would do many years later. A war was inevitable. If you actually read the Forerunner trilogy of books you would know that the whole war was a feint on the Floods part. The Flood enacted their plan flawlessly, giving prehistoric humanity enough time to detect the Flood on Forerunner planets, but not enough time or evidence to convince the Forerunners of their story. As such, for most of the war, the Forerunners simply believed the Flood to be an excuse the humans used as justification of the massacre of billions of biological beings across the Forerunner ecumene in unprovoked attacks. It was this arrogance and hatred for humanity that would ultimately lead to the firing of the Halo Array 10 thousand years later. The whole thing was orchestrated by the Flood. They did it as best as it could ever have done, and it changed the galaxy forever.
Avalanche That was nicely put. This is why I don't believe the flood was a precursor weapon or revenge against the forerunners. What the primordial told the didact would have all been lies. Humanity being the precursors chosen species; whilst wiping them out along with everyone else. The whole cure thing. I think the flood became the "flood" when some parasitic organism was encountered by the precursors. And that this organism infected them (or some). And given the unique biological properties of the precursors themselves this organism was able to mutate into the gravemind/flood that the inhabitants of the milky way encountered.
nihilityjoey that could also be true. No information directly pertaining to the precursors and what happened to them has been released yet, all we have is the primordials word, and he was basically already a gravemind when the Didact killed him. It could well have all been lies
I disagree, The flood was the Precursors way of punishing the Forerunners. In the books it was stated by the Forerunners that the Flood could've consumed the galaxy in just a few centuries. This shows the Flood was holding back to make the Forerunners suffer. What's most intriguing is how that well coordinated their efforts. Having their AI turn against them which is ironic as how the Forerunners turned against their creators. And as farfetched this might sound the Flood allowed the Forerunners to fire the Halo Array. Instead of destroying them outright, the Flood let the Forerunners destroy themselves and also the Domain which was like the soul to the Forerunners. In truth I believe this was the Precursors way of cleaning the slate if you will to the galaxy to start fresh. The galaxy was heavily ruled by the Forerunners who were not suppose to have the Mantle so the Flood carefully planned strategically have the galaxy wipe clean with no Forerunners. It's also worth noting how much the Flood was saved humanity and was secretly helping them since humanity was the species the Precursors chose. With the Flood being the main threat the Forerunners sparred humanity instead of wiping out. Even in the current time, the Flood was secretly helping humanity from the Covenant. It was the Flood that infected High Charity which was the capital of the Covenant and if it wasn't for the Flood humanity would've been killed off by the Covenant.
Anthony Doc That still doesn't say the flood was a precursor weapon against the forerunners, created or otherwise. The precursors could have destroyed the forerunners I think they chose not too, for a number of reasons but most of all I believe because of their philosophy - the mantle. So, if they would not destroy the forerunners even in defence of their existence it makes no sense to me that they would take revenge in the form of the flood. Not only that but if the humans were the true inheritors of the mantle why was the flood destroying them wholesale as well? The only references to the flood being a weapon against the forerunners came from the primordial, who; as avalanche stated was already an infected precursor, or a proto gravemind. It would have been filling the humans and forerunners with lies for the simple tact of devide and conquer. The humans were doing a hell of a job attacking the flood before they had to contend with the forerunners as well. And by the time the forerunners forced an end to the war the flood had spread too far for the remaining forerunner empire to stop it. I believe that whilst hiding from the forerunners in the dwarf galaxy the the precursors came across some sort of biological organism, it could have been an organism or sub set indigenous to that galaxy, kind of like the araithus bug in the pegasus galaxy (stargate atlantis). And this organism infected some or all of these precursors. Now from what is told about the biological attributes of the precursors this organism could have mutated along with the precursor creating the flood. Kind of like the goa'uld getting an ancient for a host mmhh very bad. This new organism/flood would have had access to all of the knowledge about not only the precursor forerunner war but of the milky way and the humans. That along with the precursors neural capabilities this organisms infestation and merger with a precursor could have totally given rise to what the milky ways inhabitants called the flood. The pod the humans found containing the primordial and the "dust" would have been the trojan horse by which thd flood could achieve its foothold in our galaxy. You have a new organism with the memories, neural ability and knowledge of a life seeding race - the precursors and the mutagenic, hive mind capabilities of this organism. That right there is a bad combination - the flood. They never destroyed the domain. They just cut the forerunners off from using it.
nihilityjoey *That still doesn't say the Flood was a Precursor weapon against the forerunners* The Flood are the Precursors but by accident so they went along with it. The Flood was the Precursors way of getting back at the Forerunners for their betrayal. This was stated by the Primordial. *it makes no sense to me that they would take revenge in the form of the flood* It would make sense. You have to remember that the Precursors cannot not truly be killed. They are a transcendence race of beings that are beyond the concept of life. That transcend the physical realm. Their physical bodies that the Forerunners destroyed are more like avatars. As it states in the novel. "The Precursors live in many different forms, can die, reborn or reincarnate". The Precursors let the Forerunners go on their rampage thus proving why the Forerunners do not deserve to inherit the Mantle. The Flood is a means to wipe the slate clean of the Forerunners for their betrayal. *if the humans were the true inheritors of the mantle why was the Flood destroying them wholesale as well* Remember the Precursors has to test each species. The Flood outbreak was Precursors way of testing humanity to how to deal with the crisis which they passed. Ancient Humanity sacrificed 1/3 of their population to counter the Flood. They passed which in turn the Flood retreated and left them alone. Also by doing so this gave the illusion that Humanity found a cure to Flood infection which made the Forerunners not destroy humanity. As a quote in Halo Silentium by the Didact. "Only the threat of the Flood kept me from utterly destroying humanity, but now I realized the tactic of the Flood. First Infecting and then redrawing and so implying humans knew of a way to combat the disease. Favored by the Flood". Futhermore, during the last stages of the Forerunner-Flood war, The Flood destroyed the greater Ark which housed the remaining Forerunner Empire while the lesser Ark housed the remaining species including humanity which the Flood didn't destroy even though they could have. *primordial, who; as avalanche stated was already an infected precursor, or a proto Gravemind. It would have been filling the humans and Forerunners with lies for the simple tact of divide and conquer* Highly unlikely, remember the Flood are the Precursors reincarnated. The Flood was already dominating humanity and could've finished them off but chose not to for 2 reasons which I already gave. 1.) To give the illusion that humanity found a cure to flood infection which in turn would spar humanity from the Forerunners wrath. 2.) To make their presence known. If a force was strong enough to overpower ancient humanity which was stated by the Forerunners to be the 2nd most power species in the galaxy then the Flood would be a huge threat to the Forerunners. *They never destroyed the domain* The Domain is sentient which the Halo destroys sentient life. The Domain was caught in the Halo's firing.
You know, is a shame, 343 got a fucking good starting point for the new trilogy, they could have built an incredibly good trilogy with this history as the starting point. Too bad 343 abandoned it entirely
@@jhomkarlopatinoperez3 Agreed. I will always prefer the Bungie titles but Halo 4 was actually a good game and a solid starting point. Halo 5 completely threw all of that out the window which is just a shame.
I like how in the beginning the Librarian was all about killing off humanity and the didact against that, and how towards the end they switched and the didact wanted humanity to be eliminated and the librarian against it
ne thing that is kinda funny about the Halo universe is that the ancient San 'Shyuum and humans where close allies and that modern San 'Shyuum and humans are mortal enemies
I just realised that at 0:14, when the human ship is scanning the Forerunner ship, you can actually SEE the Flood on the Forerunner ship. Those 5 blue lights on the Forerunner ship shouldn't be obstructed, but 4 of them are partially obstructed by random opaque blobs. Not to mention the uneven growths covering the rest of the back section of the Forerunner ship. Forerunner aesthetic would never do something like that on purpose, so its highly likely these were Flood lifeforms stuck to the outside of the ship and had perhaps already infected some Forerunners on the ship, without Forerunner command realising... most likely because the Flood intentionally tried to keep themselves hidden from the Forerunners at this point in time to provoke a war between the Forerunners and Ancient Humanity, all part of the Flood's plan to destroy the Forerunners and reset the galaxy state for humanity to be tested next (by the Precursors).
@Arnold Academy Probably there was no western civilization or eastern civilization at that point. Humanity's cultural and technological evolution might have been different the first time.
"You know we have no choice... cleanse the planet" *Intense sad music plays* man this scene gave me the chills, the humans had to stop the infestation but had no time to warn the forerunners, and when they did it pissed the forerunners off because they saw it as an act of aggression towards them when it was really an act against the Flood. Tragic.
The Humans were far more spiritually advanced than the Forerunners, it is one of the reason of why they were ready to sacrifice huge chunks of their galactic population for the greater good. This is why they were able to access so many Precursors artifacts and even made the Precursors themselves chose them as the rightful mantle holders. The Forerunners are the direct opposite of Ancient Humans. Hence why after many awakening events, the Librarian eventually realized that she and her species has made a great sin and yet to commit another one. That's why she finally achieved the understanding of our ancestors, to sacrifice everything for the greater good.
Halo 4 answered a lot of questions left after the previous games, and the Forerunner trilogy of novels neatly ties the threads together. Overall 343's interpretation of Halo is far more artistic and less cryptic than Bungie.
THIS IS THE KIND OF PEOPLE I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH IN REGARDS TO HALO: "Sorry Im a Halo and 343 hater and Im never gonna play Halo and I'll betray my childhood game to go play this piece of crap game Destiny and CoD 'cause I'm a traitor just 'cause a new company (343) who totally loves their work, didn't give me "no sprint" and tried something new to be fun, called load outs. But since Im a tweanty five year old jerk who has a youtube account and think Im the coolest thing since sliced bread and think its fun to get wasted, Im now gonna tell my hundreds of followers and subscribers how awful I think Halo 4 and 343 is and hopefully they'll turn the communiy into a bunch of COD bootlicking MLG jerks who swear and are probably inbread 'cause heck yeah! So lets go buy a bunch of lame playstations (jk ps4s cool) and go ruin other great games like Assassins Creed 'cause Im depressed and completely ignore lore and amazing books and never provide any reasoning to back my lame ass opinions! Ha!"... SO THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO HALO... sorry for the angry rant but that's what I've been dealing with for the last two years both on all social networks and IRL.
I have no issues with 343, in fact they've enhanced and strengthened the Halo gaming experience by improving gameplay and actually sticking to the original concepts created by Bungie. With a larger budget, better tech and more resources, they've been able to neatly blend modern demand for increasingly better graphics and gameplay features with an engaging storyline.
I would agree with you 100% but as I said above in my rant, I have dealt with dozens of ding dongs in the darkest depths of the youtube comments sections and with friends IRL, alot saying that Halo 4 is the spawn of demons. Which is nonsense, but I get really irritated with all of the unfounded hate and criticism. I find it difficult to enjoy one of my favorite games (Halo 4) when I go to listen to who I thought were cool commentators say stuff like "Oh hey remember that awful game Halo? Hah Cod is the coolest ever, any one who doesn't worship MLG tryhards and the Punk/Jag lifestyle sucks!!" Ugh...
Well most of those expressing that opinion are either uneducated or simply ignorant. Halo 4 is perhaps the best title since Halo: CE. It basically took everything good from Halo 2/3 and got rid of some of the glitches and issues. I found it to be a very enjoyable game.
Totally agree, I love Halo to the point where I watched Legends, Forward unto Dawn, bought ALL the books and am at the moment playing Halo 3 with my high school buds. (-Typing this between matches)
There needs to be a game or at most a trilogy of games about the flood. One set at the begining of the human flood encounter, one set at the time of the human forerunner wars, and maybe one set just before the firing of the halos. The games would have to be very dark though like deadspace, a different direction to the previous games. They don't need to be 3rd person, just much more fitting to what the flood is and can do. If done right those would be some games.
It's kind of scary, he's scary in general, probably the worst villain in the entire universe, apart from the Flood, but even they have their motivations. Faber is just a sadist.
The ancient weapons sound very nice, and truly sci-fi. I dunno about you, but I prefer the sound of the energy weapons to the hard sound of the projectile weapons.
I still think it's pretty cool how the Hellcat armor in Halo 5 was based off of- or at least looks very similar to -the armor worn by the ancient humans.
I wish they did but asking for that is like asking Disney to make a few movies of ancient times in Star Wars if it doesn’t get botched it will never be done properly
when i first played i through h4's story is kinda meh, because i saw the didact as h4's generic token badguy (im entrylevel book wise, go easy on me). after watching the terminals h4 now stands on top of my list of best halo campaigns. i prey 343i will make more efforts to bring forth more lore, both in books and untapped to mainstream. so much ppl dismiss halo as a generic shoot bang 'kill the aliens' game, when its lore is so deep and complex :/
Read the Forerunner Saga books. The terminals really only tell you a fraction of the Didact's story. Suffice it to say, he has been driven buttfucking insane.
Well said! I really loved the Didact as a character after watching this and I personally feel like 343i wasted him as a character in the game and escalation.
Tenthyr Yes I liked him in the game too, and it's good how his backstory leads up to how he is when you encounter him in the game, but what I mean is, I feel like he could have had a bigger role in the game.
The Didact is a great character. At first when you meet him in the game you're like, he's just this new badass villain who hates humans and wants to turn them into his army of robots. I didn't like him at first but once I watched these terminal videos and learned more about him there and in the books I realized how tragic his past really is and his motivations. I even have some sympathy for him now. He may look like just another bad guy to you but there's more to him than means the eye, that's what I love about him. I still like to see him in the game as much as I like to see him in this video and the books but seeing him in the game now makes me realize that I feel like 343i didn't portray him really well, as if they just wasted him. It's just like, they threw him in and then threw him out (by using what happened to him in the Halo Escalation edition that came out after Halo 4) I really wish the Didact got more screen time in the game, and that what happened in Escalation never happened. I know he's not dead, but if they bring him back as a robot it won't be the same, because he was the first real Forerunner we saw, a huge step for those who have interest in the lore.
I think we'll see the Ur-Didact again. Despite what happened in Halo: Escalation, I think that powerful Promethean (just like John-117 believes) is merely "contained" and far from dead/finished....
@114219646974858188649 Glad to hear you're someone who actually knows what happened to him because many fans get the misconception that he is dead. He was basically only used to advance the story thus making fans generalize and hate him. I liked him when I began to learn his story. Composing him like that was a total waste, now if he comes back, it won't be the same if he's digital.
+Emily Hill I hope that in the future of Halo the Didact after countless years of strife, hardship, and battle with his sworn human enemies he can be redeemed and find peace and forgiveness in his former foes and help them rid the galaxy of flood once and for all.
I generally feel sorry for them. The pre cursors essentially told them that they were not worthy of the mantle. Then as per their previous times we’re going to wipe the forerunners out. They fought back and would not accept being wiped out. As any species would. Then essentially give birth to the flood as a corrupted version of the ore cursors revenge.
They tried but since ancient humans were wiping out the flood and all its traces the forerunners thought they were lying. The humans were very efficient and complete in their hunt of the flood. It was only after they had killed billions of forerunners they realized but by then it was too late to stop the war, the forerunners are very proud and it is their failing.
GNJWKang Right and still they could of sent a message before the first fleets started to wipe out worlds saying "So there's this nasty parasite on that world. Here's our data on it. We need to do something about it."
I assume they did as much. They talk about how the forerunners kept an eye on humans long before the war and how humans chose to expand along the galactic arm outwards and mainly left forerunner space alone but the forerunners still didnt like the humans and their quick expansion and population growth. I imagine there was some economic and political troubles between the two leading up to it and they were just looking for a reason to go to war. The pride of the forerunners and their need to hold on to the self claimed mantle is a big theme in the saga. It makes sense they would hate any race that would advance to a point where they could be a remote threat to the empire. The forerunner empire was vast in comparison and I think they just didn't like the idea of having to share anything even though space is massive. Even the librarian was all for killing humans at first until she realized the mistake. The ur-didact even though he hated the race didn't really want to truly wipe them out(hence being persuaded by the life shaper to not kill them all and also the mantle). What he did with the composer is explained in silentium but I don't believe he would have composed all the humans if the events in silentium didn't change him. The forerunner saga books doesn't make him out to be as big as a dick as the game does, but his dickishness in halo 4 is also explained in the last acts of silentium.
Yeah Srsly that's the one thing I the Canon that bothers me. How they couldn't have sent scoring reports to confirm the flood so the two races could find them off together
That was the Didact and the Master Builder. Read the forerunner books; better story than what Bungie gave the Forerunners. 343 just expanded on that Idea.
+Unknown Entity Yeah I agree. There's bound to be problems with Canon and pleasing existing fans. But 343 have done a good job of expanding the universe. I think they need to explore the time of the human, forerunner, flood time period. But they should make it really dark, like 18 dark. Explore the flood in a more "deadspace" way. A score more reflecting of the horror of what you are up against. Expand on what the flood actually is and what is really known about its origins; not just fan based theories. Again new cannon will be made, fans will cry but I reckon a trilogy of games like that will refresh the halo universe a hell of a lot, and in a good way. I really hope that happens.
GNJWKang Silentium tells how the primordial tells of how the flood came about. When the librarian goes to the dwarf galaxy the only thing she finds is ancient forerunner wreckage, and a planet with an off shoot forerunner race. What I thought was strange, was that the librarian only found out who these forerunners were, and the history of why they believe they stayed in that galaxy, AFTER she was bitten. The way she describes how she got that knowledge from the bite was interesting. I would hazard a guess and say that maybe the precursors found some sort of organism in that galaxy and tried to create a weapon out of it or some means to augment their own bodies in some way and it destroyed them. The capsules the humans found in the milky way could have been scientific in nature carrying specimens and the already infected precursor. What the primordial told the didact could have been a lie, along with telling him that the humans once held a cure. It could have been setting two species that were possibly smart enough to destroy it against each other, in order to devide and conquer. This organism would have all the information about the forerunners, humanity and the milky way it would have needed from infecting a precursor. The primordial could have been a flood trojan horse. Just my theory though.
So, are you saying that the Primordial is not a Precursor? But didn't he say that the flood and the precursors were the same? Sorry, I'm just so confused.
+SinDawg030 idek how he'd get composed when he says in the terminals that the composer doesn't work on him. I'm feel that the Warden is just some AI construct inhabiting armor.
I like the design of the ancient humans, reminds me of the way native americans are often portrayed, long flowing black hair, deep bronze skin, and decorative facial markings to denote certain cultural meanings.
roberto bandana interestingly, the Hellcat armor from Halo 5 I believe was actually designed from ancient human battle suits. The resemblance is mainly in the helmet, cool nonetheless
@@KindredMixedBlade yeah but the ancient humans were more than 10 ft tall giant titan and had the power like the god emperor in 40k, chief still wouldn't be able to work anything out unless his evolution runs rapidly and end up being ancient humans
quite distressing to know just how powerful humanity was in ages past in the halo series, hopefully INFINITY will change all that, it certainly ruined the didacts day in halo 4
Rajiv Aiyar Well it did use its main guns in the front to blow a whole big enough for MC's Broadsword to fly through. Does that not count as a scratch? It's on the level Midnight in Halo 4
AlphaWolf28 Its funny how a lot of Orbital Defence Platforms cannot penetrate mantel's shield. But a single shot from infinity main guns penetrated shield and hull. Bullshit. sorry if my english too bad
The compelling art style, the impactful writing, emotional cinematography, and the effective use of Halo 4's OST to enhance the tone of the scene. This is story telling at the pinnacle. These terminal videos are incredible 😯
Halo 4 was terrible as far as pvp goes but the story was good. I am 28 years old and have been playing since the beta came out for halo 1. I think halo 1 through 3 was the best as far as pvp and halo 4 possibly the best story, but the fact that reach and halo 4 had terrible pvp I stopped playing them after a few weeks
The Forerunner/Human/Flood War is by far the greatest piece of science fiction I've ever read and researched. Halo as a series must continue to bring us similarly and tied in, great stories linked to the overall fall of the Forerunners, the devolving of humanity, the Librarian's decision of letting humanity thrive at the cost of her beloved husband, the Didact, and the other unforgettable parts of the Forerunner Saga, such as Bornstellar, Chakas, etc. Halo in 343's hands has never been so great.
@i hate anime the lore always changes, it's how all games have been through, Halo 4 trilogy was enough to surpass the whole bungie lore of halo, 343 gave us more lore than we expected, more data, more deep sense than bungie ever did, more actual sense what forerunners a million years advance species would look like, taking ancient humans on the side, they made the lore a bit more deeper to understand, Although yeah, halo 5 shit fucked that up,
What's more ridiculous is that you have to buy Xbox LIVE Gold to access Halo Waypoint. It's Microsoft milking the series. Want answers to plot holes and crap left out of the game? Buy Xbox LIVE and our crummy books!
Say what you will about Halo 4's multiplayer and gameplay, but you can't deny that the campaign and story telling were masterfully written. The portrayal of the Forerunners magnified our perspective of the power they once held.
I love the Halo 4 Terminals the most. This side of Halo has barely been explored in the games (well) and these terminals where great. Really helps showcase Niel Davidge's unique sound for Halo 4 that in some respects I prefer over Marties traditional take.
I remember from the Halo 3 days, the rather vague story of the Librarian and the Didact could be found in the Halo 3 terminals. It’s incredible to see how 343i took the vague love story between the two in their final hours and added so much depth and flavour into it.
Izanagiii you should both read the forerunner saga, amazing books and amazing story that really helps understand Halo 4 (these terminals are snippets from the books)
The gunfight scene between the Forerunners and the humans is just legendly memorable. Masterfully done. A style to be set as standard for any upcoming Halo series/movies or game cinematics
I took 2 days leave back in 2016 just to "hear" the audio book version of th Forerunner Trilogy. Never regretted it for a second. My imagination is forever changed and in awed
Spencer Patterson What would happen if the ancient humans at the height of their powers came into the 40k galaxy during the Horus Heresy and joined the imperium. What would the forerunners think of the imperium, the emperor, the primarchs, and the bloodbath that is warhammer where everyone is killing each other.
Even the infantry in the ancient human had the power equal to the primarchs, and I am having a thought that the ancient humanity was nothing but the next step of the imperium of man, and the emperor was one of the lord's in the ancient human society and went to the past, it would be a great novel
2:50 Arguably the most significant scene in the entire Halo universe. Absolutely chilling to see how advanced and virtuous humanity had become, placing the universe and the essence of life before everything else. I believe this is why the librarian accepted that the mantle of responsibility belonged to the humans: because of their innate potential and virtuous nature. It’s cool to think about what we might be capable of and might achieve someday in our own reality.
The last shot of Requiem closing hits harder when you know the Librarians plan for the Didact went south and he was essentially locked away without internet access.
Forthencho is such a beast and I love his capital ship. It'd be great to see much more about the Forerunner/Ancient Human/Flood conflict in the games. Forget the Covenant and UNSC. This storyline is so much more interesting. This is the reason why Greg Bears Forerunner novels were so incredible.
You know I've never really paid attention until now, but you can see that the scanner is picking up Flood signs in that first terminal shot at 0:13. There's even what looks like Flood biomass clogging up the windows. That's a really nice detail.
The Halo series has a Universe of Beauty, Change, Faith, Inspirational, Life, Death, Peace, War, Success, Failure, History, Imagination, Truth, Lies, Hope, Despair, etc. The story has meaning and that is what I like.
This is the first time In all these years that this story has opened up to me, it’s like unlocking an old story... well kinda like modern present humans in halo, just not as old lol
Star Pillars Trust me, the Ancient Human-Forerunner conflict is probably the most interesting part of Halo lore yet unexplored. The biggest lore deposit for this time period is in the Forerunner trilogy of books, if you are interested.
So let me get this straight. Besides the fact that the Librarian could've stopped the Didact whenever she wanted, she had the power of saving someone from the halo extinction and she chose, above all in the whole galaxy, the one person that made necessary to use halo arrays... BUT not before she could store some of the floods (the reason why they are using halos to wipe out the galaxy) just here and there... for no reason AT ALL.
she wanted humans as the mantle care takers to find a cure for the flood, so if the infection were to come back life in the galaxy will be ready for it
@@Jaehaerys7 then why keeping alive the guy who wanted to destroy humanity.. besides, if you fire halo, all floods die. they come back only because she chooses to keep them alive :S
Fabrizio Incoronato because she expected him to be healed by the Domain. She didn’t know it would be damaged by the Halos until it was too late. And they knew the Flood was actually the Precursors who could easily just return from outside the galaxy. There was a 1000 year gap between when they first fought the Flood (Forerunner-Human War) and when they returned (Forerunner-Flood War). So she decide to keep them in stasis to study them, before the inevitable return from beyond the Galaxy.
@@cucciolino94I think the decision as emotion fueled as logical. She thought the domain would help him. And... this is her husband who she loved and be loved for gods knows how many millenia...could you easily do it?
The Forerunner saga could have been so awesome. We could have seen the rise of the Didact and his Prometheans, then Cortana and the AIs being infected with the Logic Plague, we could have had Mendicant Bias and Offensive Bias rise up and stop her, and then ultimately we could have had the return of the Flood, and the Final Test to bestow Humanity with the Mantle. It was all laid out before them, handed to them on a silver platter. And they did none of it. How could 343 have dropped the ball so hard.
These terminals were epic better than halo 4’s story far more interesting and dramatic I just wish we could of saw more of the flood in these terminals it’s also really dramatic how there’s a tear down the didactic’s eye when he asks his servant if he would be willing to sacrifice so much and his speech to stop the flood
I would pay to see this as a full fledged live action series, like Forward Unto Dawn or even as a CGI movie/series like Halo Spartan Ops. This is so much more interesting than that Halo Series in Paramount+. Why can't they just give the people what they want, not some alternate timeline bullshit
I can imagine a halo game that bases on one of the many forerunners who did crucial things in the novels. Like faber, bornstellar, ect Think of halo 2's character changing from chief to arbiter, but better story (based on the novels) and more characters to move through. I'd spend my cash hard if they did something like that and it came out beautifully
Strongly suspect flood in Halo 5. Halo 6 will be too late and seem too insignificant. Flood are too much intertwined with the story of forerunners and humans. Convenant are really losing their relevance in this war.
Have 343 changed the design of the flood, or are they just different for multiplayer? Since when did flood have a crab claw, a face, and scales? And how come the jellyfish thing isnt present in the face of the halo 4 flood? And why isnt the head twisted?
Song at 2:55? And I wish they could have brought more of the Didact's character out in-campaign rather than just as extras like the Terminals. I always felt more explaining was needed. The Librarian casually tells Chief about advanced ancient humans like it's nothing, most Halo players must have been like "wtf humans weren't space faring 100,000 years ago", and Chief has no comment on it. Only people more involved in the lore would know about that. Also if accepted scientific human history is also respected in Halo (ancient humans aside) I find it weird that the de-evolved humans aren't black. Since it's believed humanity started in Africa and colonised the rest of the planet from there.
The song is 'Haven'. I agree that 343 could have better told the story, in the sense that fans who don't follow the extended universe could be fed events in a clearer - more gradual - manner. Having it dumped on them in one brief sequence isn't the best move, from a story-telling stand point. 'Chief being more inquisitive could have really helped that scene. 343 has said they have learned from this mistake - over reliance on the EU - and should look to amend this for Halo 5.
Idk if its me or something else but I feel like humanity has become ignorant as we advance forward into the digitalized way of living, all this technology has made us less proactive and social
No, Ur is the German prefix for 'original' which means that the Ur-Didact is the one we see in Cryptum and Halo 4. Bornstellar is named the IsoDidact in Silentium and is the one who fires the Halos, then leads the surviving Forerunners on the Great Journey.
The Timeless One in Primordium made it clear that Humanity had not been tested yet, and after we learned of the fate of some of the Precursors in Silentium I doubt we really want to be tested by them.
Halo 4 sucked to people who have only played the games, and was amazing for people, like me, who read the books. Its a fine line 343i has to walk between catering to the most core fangroup (us) and making it accessible to the more casual fanbase. Sadly in Halo 4 in a attempt to appease us, they left the more casual and numerous fans kinda out to dry.
I'm so annoyed I read the books after halo 4. Both Cryptum and Primordium were out before halo 4, so upon starting halo 4, landing on requiem, finding clues and finally waking the didact lore fans would have had uncontrollable nerdgasms, understanding the implications of it, and the threat to 117, the UEG and humanity as a whole.
not really I was introduced with reach then played 3 then 4 and then 5, and I completely understood what was going on with the forunners and stuff any questions I had I went to the terminals and Halo wiki for
One part the terminals leave out is the advanced humans, some of them managed to escape to another galaxy. I heard they settled on some planet called coruscant, in a galaxy far far away. Idk what happened after that. I heard they fought many wars once they got there.
How to solve thousands of years of war: "Yo Forerunner dudes. We are glassing your planets because there is a galactic crisis in the forming, a parasite that feeds on intelligent creatures and in doing so, getting more dangerous with each consumed individual. Please don't take it the wrong way, but we must keep this infection at bay. Wanna lend a hand?"
The forerunners would not have believed the humans. The forerunners already hated humanity because of its rapid expansion and because of their belief with the mantle.

The didact wants them to ally with the ecumene and doesn't want to wage war on them, which is contrary to his rate and his future attitude towards humans. For all of you out there who ask the question "Why didn't the humans just warn the Forerunners" here is the answer:
The political situation at the time was extremely dangerous.
They just cut the forerunners off from using it.
nihilityjoey
*That still doesn't say the Flood was a Precursor weapon against the forerunners*
The Flood are the Precursors but by accident so they went along with it. The Flood was the Precursors way of getting back at the Forerunners for their betrayal. This was stated by the Primordial.
*it makes no sense to me that they would take revenge in the form of the flood*
It would make sense.
*if the humans were the true inheritors of the mantle why was the Flood destroying them wholesale as well*
Remember the Precursors has to test each species.
It would have been filling the humans and Forerunners with lies for the simple tact of divide and conquer*
Highly unlikely, remember the Flood are the Precursors reincarnated.
*They never destroyed the domain*
The Domain is sentient which the Halo destroys sentient life. The Domain was caught in the Halo's firing.

There needs to be a game or at most a trilogy of games about the flood. One set at the begining of the human flood encounter, one set at the time of the human forerunner wars, and maybe one set just before the firing of the halos. I still think it's pretty cool how the Hellcat armor in Halo 5 was based off of- or at least looks very similar to -the armor worn by the ancient humans.
you are right!
But that was reverse engineer to be weared by the Spartans which are toooooooo much inferior to the ancient human
343 Industries should make a whole game saga of this era of the Halo universe
You said it man! I wish there was more lore in the games too! Then i wouldnt have to buy the books or smth
***** I liked him in the game-- If only because it's a direct continuation of the horrible stuff he did during the end of the forerunner-flood war.
Matthew Langdon Definitely
Staff Blood That's what I have always hoped for. I can sense good in him somehow.
Everything Forthencho did was in anguish to himself. He didn't want to harm the forerunners
Already 8 years since this?
omg, feeling so old
11:27 oh he's acting just as the humans did.. without mercy just so they could stop the flood! what irony :P
Something how Forerunners had a hand in causing their own downfall.
No race is perfect. You should watch Forbidden Planet, the Krell had a hand in their destruction.
Did anyone actually tell the Forerunners before the War "Hey. Flood's coming"
GNJWKang Sounds like neither side did
Yeah Srsly that's the one thing I the Canon that bothers me. How they couldn't have sent scoring reports to confirm the flood so the two races could find them off together
Bungie: Forerunners sacrificed themselves for good of all in the Galaxy: Noble act.
343i: Forerunners were egotistical assholes.
Silentium tells you the origin of the flood. Silentium could have a movie made of it, it is epic Sci Fi.
Keith Szarabajka has the most epic amount of gravitas in his voice, I swear to God.
Ikr. When he said "shall we take revenge?" I got chills.
Zir S His whole "Lord of Admirals" monologue still raises the hairs on the back of my arms.
+SinDawg030 God damn it I'm so pissed didact wasn't in H5. Warden eternally friendzoned was just the worst replacement.
Zir S There is still much about the Warden that we don't know. Perhaps the Warden is the Composed remains of the Didact?
+SinDawg030 idek how he'd get composed when he says in the terminals that the composer doesn't work on him. I'm feel that the Warden is just some AI construct inhabiting armor.
I like the design of the ancient humans, reminds me of the way native americans are often portrayed, long flowing black hair, deep bronze skin, and decorative facial markings to denote certain cultural meanings.
So the Forerunners set humanity back to 0?

quite distressing to know just how powerful humanity was in ages past in the halo series, hopefully INFINITY will change all that, it certainly ruined the didacts day in halo 4

This really helped me piece everything together. I was really confused on the storyline on why the didact was Held away? But now i know.
Halo 5 ruined this.
Ikr, they had so much potential but they did not have Didact and they just had the stupid ass Warden Eternal.
Omg thank you
If they used this lore, I bet that 343 would be the worthy and better successors
@@basudebsarkar5487 they would, perhaps even surpassed the bungie
@i hate anime the lore always changes, it's how all games have been through, Halo 4 trilogy was enough to surpass the whole bungie lore of halo, 343 gave us more lore than we expected, more data, more deep sense than bungie ever did, more actual sense what forerunners a million years advance species would look like, taking ancient humans on the side, they made the lore a bit more deeper to understand, Although yeah, halo 5 shit fucked that up,
Kinda grinds my gears how I have to go to Waypoint to watch this. I'm watching them here because I don't want to update Waypoint :(
What's more ridiculous is that you have to buy Xbox LIVE Gold to access Halo Waypoint. It's Microsoft milking the series.

The librarian saying the word "eradicated" surprised me so fudging much
Say what you will about Halo 4's multiplayer and gameplay, but you can't deny that the campaign and story telling were masterfully written. The portrayal of the Forerunners magnified our perspective of the power they once held.
Even as a Retcon. This setting is so captivating they had potential for a beautiful Reclaimer Trilogy. But nooooooo Cortana bad guy now
imagine holding the firepower of one of those hard-light rifles. I couldn't even imagine.
I love the Halo 4 Terminals the most. This side of Halo has barely been explored in the games (well) and these terminals where great. Really helps showcase Niel Davidge's unique sound for Halo 4 that in some respects I prefer over Marties traditional take.
Music at 6:18 is awesome.
I remember from the Halo 3 days, the rather vague story of the Librarian and the Didact could be found in the Halo 3 terminals. It’s incredible to see how 343i took the vague love story between the two in their final hours and added so much depth and flavour into it.
Can we talk for a moment at how AWESOME the hardlight rifles at 5:48 sound?
5.31 onwards is really cool...captures the atmosphere of a foe that knows its been defeated really well
These terminals were more interesting than the entire Halo 4 story

I loved both!
I wish this was a campaign
We need a game trilogy set as a ancient human in this time to learn more about the back story of the ancient humans
I love the Librarian, she is an epic character. Having read the books, I have such a deep respect and understanding for her and her actions.
Some of the humans sound like 40k Space Marines
Spencer Patterson What would happen if the ancient humans at the height of their powers came into the 40k galaxy during the Horus Heresy and joined the imperium. What would the forerunners think of the imperium, the emperor, the primarchs, and the bloodbath that is warhammer where everyone is killing each other.
Even the infantry in the ancient human had the power equal to the primarchs, and I am having a thought that the ancient humanity was nothing but the next step of the imperium of man, and the emperor was one of the lord's in the ancient human society and went to the past, it would be a great novel
Can't believe they traded this for Halo 5.
Gotta admit, the Master Builder's voice is badass.
“If we warn them, we give The Flood time to spread. You know we have no choice. *Cleanse* the planet.”
The last shot of Requiem closing hits harder when you know the Librarians plan for the Didact went south and he was essentially locked away without internet access.
"It is a kindness they do not deserve" amazing script 👍🏻
See halo 4 was great. Halo 5 would of been great if it kept this approach
His final transformation after being stuck on the Flood infested planet drove him thoroughly mad,
This is the first time In all these years that this story has opened up to me, it’s like unlocking an old story... well kinda like modern present humans in halo, just not as old lol
Star Pillars
Trust me, the Ancient Human-Forerunner conflict is probably the most interesting part of Halo lore yet unexplored. The biggest lore deposit for this time period is in the Forerunner trilogy of books, if you are interested.
I wish they would explore the prehistoric human-forerunner war a little more, if not in a game then in a book.
Working on that
So let me get this straight.
We need a survival horror game based around the flood
the voice acting is soo goood!!!! ahhhh the didact's voice, I wanna have it!

But they are in halo 4 story you just have to accessed them and combine all the puzzles
I would pay to see this as a full fledged live action series, like Forward Unto Dawn or even as a CGI movie/series like Halo Spartan Ops. This is so much more interesting than that Halo Series in Paramount+. Why can't they just give the people what they want, not some alternate timeline bullshit
5:22 The poor Wilhelm family, even in a past they family still dies for the greater good
I can imagine a halo game that bases on one of the many forerunners who did crucial things in the novels.
Like faber, bornstellar, ect
Think of halo 2's character changing from chief to arbiter, but better story (based on the novels) and more characters to move through.
I'd spend my cash hard if they did something like that and it came out beautifully
You have to admit, it’s not often the follow up to a legendary trilogy enriches the original like Halo 4 did 💯
Didact = the most underrated villain in all video games
Strongly suspect flood in Halo 5. Halo 6 will be too late and seem too insignificant. Flood are too much intertwined with the story of forerunners and humans. Convenant are really losing their relevance in this war.
i think that was the point of the halo trilogy to destroy the covenant
*literally seconds later the arbiter is announced to appear in halo 5* XD
Have 343 changed the design of the flood, or are they just different for multiplayer? Since when did flood have a crab claw, a face, and scales? And how come the jellyfish thing isnt present in the face of the halo 4 flood? And why isnt the head twisted?
TheRageEnterprise Prob only just for infection. I dont think it necessarily represents infected forms of the flood
hope so
Anyone else ever notice how Faber has a much more sinister voice than everyone else?
Because he's evil.
Sorry but the Halo EU has to be one of the best Si-Fi stories ever made.
NASTAR01 Do you know the song at 6:04 someone said aliens and i listened that part wasnt in it

No, Ur is the German prefix for 'original' which means that the Ur-Didact is the one we see in Cryptum and Halo 4. Bornstellar is named the IsoDidact in Silentium and is the one who fires the Halos, then leads the surviving Forerunners on the Great Journey.
Why does the didact have no skin? I can literally see his muscles.
He originally did, but he mutated himself to be immune to the flood, this failed and he wad stuck in that form

It's not muscle. It's just the undersuit of his armor.
He looks much uglier now, I guess.
5:22 WILHELM SCREAM
The Timeless One in Primordium made it clear that Humanity had not been tested yet, and after we learned of the fate of some of the Precursors in Silentium I doubt we really want to be tested by them.
I wish more people knew of the larger lore like this. Now they’ll only know that pathetic show
Halo 4 sucked to people who have only played the games, and was amazing for people, like me, who read the books.
Both Cryptum and Primordium were out before halo 4, so upon starting halo 4, landing on requiem, finding clues and finally waking the didact lore fans would have had uncontrollable nerdgasms, understanding the implications of it, and the threat to 117, the UEG and humanity as a whole.
not really I was introduced with reach then played 3 then 4 and then 5, and I completely understood what was going on with the forunners and stuff any questions I had I went to the terminals and Halo wiki for
I read the books and fucking hated it
Noble Regret hated the books or halo 4?
One part the terminals leave out is the advanced humans, some of them managed to escape to another galaxy. I heard they settled on some planet called coruscant, in a galaxy far far away. Idk what happened after that. I heard they fought many wars once they got there.
How to solve thousands of years of war:
"Yo Forerunner dudes.
