JAKE!!! Here's something I came up with for PLACING STENCILS EXACTLY WHERE YOU WANT THEM by using "registration marks". 1: Take the original printout or drawing and cut it out closely around the edges. Place it on the client's body in the exact spot you want it (taping it if you need to). 2: Draw little lines in key areas for registration marks coming from the placed design onto the client's skin. Where you put them doesn't matter much. Just keep in mind that if it's an area that can move, they'll have to be in the same position for you to line it up later. 3: Take your original (with the lines on it) and lay your stencil on top of it. You'll be able to see those lines you drew on it from step 1. Re-draw them on the stencil paper. 4: Line up the lines on the stencil paper to the lines on the skin and you're done. PERFECT stencil placement every time!!
I've never heard an artist take into account how certain parts of the tattoo would look on the muscle. he mentioned the keys would look good wrapping around that muscle and how he didn't want a straight light at the top by the joint. that's sick we need more artists to think about these things.
small additional tip for removing stencils. try using the stencil stuff lol i know i sounds redundant, but its the best thing ive found to get stencils off is to rub more of the application cream on
Awesome vid....great to see someone explain things in detail definitely waiting for next videos... And yes im finding myself use soap more and more now.
I use green soap, microwaved speedstick and add alcohol untill it forms a consistency for application. Bit of trial to get it right but afterwards it's the best I've ever used. It holds down and also removes a stencil easily.
I know a couple guys that use KY Jelly.. Saw it used and it works great .. By the way thanks for making this channel, been in a motivation slump and really just burned out.. This channel has helped to get me motivated and taking another look at my tattooing.. Thanks so much...
Here it goes a tip that I learned : 1St pass of hand sanitizer. Wipe it off. 2nd of rubbing alcohol. Wipe. 3rd of rubbing alcohol. Wipe. Apply HALF amount Stencil stuff of what you applied on the skin. Let it go into the skin massaging and by fingers feel how starts drying but stills sticky. Apply the stencil. Bang! You have stencil atomic bomb resistant. Just give it a try ;) About the second stencil, what I would do is scissors cut and separate the important parts (kinda of that house, lettering..) in two different stencils, and place them wherever I think they fit better. After that freehand these curves, they're 2 min. Freehand easy enough for a nice tattooer for what I see on the vid. Stencil curves will not ever fit like freehand on a 3D superfice (like the human body) 'cause they don't adapt to the body. Just that, excuse my short english. I like a lot your channel, interviews, etc ;)
70% isopropyl alcohol, not 200 proof alcohol... I spray on skin to soak completely, then apply half the amount of stencil stuff, let it dry and soak into the skin, then I do another half amount, covering completely, massaging the solution deep into the pores. Let it sit until it’s tacky, less than a min if you didn’t use too much, then bam, stencil stays for days with no bleeding.
im a beginner in tattooing that's why im here. It's really helpful tho. May i know what kind of stencil or the way you draw that to the paper?. here in in the philippines we just draw it to a carbon paper.. I really appreciate if someone can tell me.. i will subscribe now and will look for more of your vids
Another EXCELLENT vid by Firesidetats, YOU GUYS RULE!!! You said you use greensoap to remove the most of the stencil but what did you use to get the rest of it off? ALCOHOL? I have problems with the skin getting extremely dry and irritated when I use alcohol. Thats why im asking :)
It was a stick of deoderant applyed with a toung depressor, to protect from cross contamination. A stick of the clearish green brand of deoderant right on the skin IS nasty, They used to sell the tiny (1/2 oz. ?) speed sticks but I haven't seen them in years, I haven't looked for them. Those were nice cause you could afford to toss them after each tattoo. Or once the stencil is on you can hand it to the folks with strong body odor and ask them to use it. I prefer to smell the green soap. Do they sell deoderant sticks made out of green soap?....hahaha
How to place a stencil, get a extremely big stencil and place it on a small arm so that the image touches itself at the back side and the only way to appreciate the tattoo is to twist the arm so you can kinda see it all. Got it.
y'all want really badass stencil? get (stencilstuff lotion )been using it and its what all the real badass artists use it also stays on the skin longer then any other stencil lotion I can think of
Any tips at all for applying large scale stencils ? For example a sleeve of armour. I've heard it's good to free hand sleeves but with detailed stuff like armour how would this work ?
I tend to freehand large pieces like that even if they are rigid like armor. Otherwise, the best method in my mind is to use light colored sharpies to give a loose guide of where to lay the stencils and do your best to get them symmetrical. There will most likely be some drawing on the skin required either way
I use the term Green Soap out of habit. I actually use Dr. Bronners Peppermint soap. You can pick it up at Whole Foods. I have never had an issue with it
+Chad Harrington I use a thermal printer. I know people that only hand trace their stencils and I believe they get a cleaner and more consistent result. I'm just lazy and typically don't rely on perfect stencils since my work is fairly loose and painterly.
When tattooist use deodorant they use paper towel for each pass. There not touching the stick on diffrent people. So there isnt any cross contamination.
its called many different things transfer paper, ditto paper, spirit paper.. I bought a 25 pack of it on amazon for like 8$ shit was totally worth it also if u get the transfer paper make sure u get stencilstuff lotion shit works like a charm..
@@FiresideTattooNetwork what i do with stencil stuff so that i don’t have to keep that dark purple for 3 hours is to do a “fast” bloodline not to invasive and clean it with alcohol so i can keep working with my own line, works wonders for thin lines where the line is thinner than the stencil
totally misplaced this stencil mr fireside technique :D a tattoo has to follow the flow of the anatomy, and this now looks like he has X-arms... starts outside and flows to the inside... absolutely misplaced, sorry - and stencil remover could save your life :D or even the stencil fluid will also remove it completely...
hvid dreng 788 he's not worried about the ingredients in the deodorant, he's worried about the possibility of contamination that comes with sharing a single stick.
i personally think that typewrite was too big :-/ I mean it almost wraps around totally, wouldn't have been better to give it a bigger angle or just a smaller stencil ?
+viniv20 Poolboy Sean here (editor/producer of the show and recipient of this tattoo). I really like the way it sits. The angle is really nice, and it really brings the perspective of the piece the way I wanted it. We'll get some final pictures up when we finally get the piece finished, only a few more sittings to go, as this was actually shot back in August. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your input! We love to hear from our viewers.
The cross contamination idea is not true, I myself have had all my tattoos done using deodorants and all the ones I've made I used a deodorant (unless the person getting tattooed has some kind of disease or an infection where the tattoo will sit then it's cross contamination). Good video though
“Unless the person getting tattooed has some sort of disease.” That right there is EXACTLY why using deodorant on every client IS cross contamination. As an artist dealing with skin and blood borne pathogens you have to assume that everyone that comes in has something communicable. Just because your experience has been fortunate enough that you haven’t caught anything, doesn’t make cross contamination a myth. But it is a good video.
ur talking like theres stincle stuff on steroids im jst confused on how if u tattoo a line how are u still seeing it ... idk jst odd but with light ink over blue i gueez it makes sense a lil but still odd.

Most of them do honestly. The good ones anyway

Yup
I'm watching this six years later and admiring the little tippy tap application of the stencil
Would really like to see the finished tattoo.... this is an interesting piece of art!!
Thank you so much for taking time & effort to make this video! It was very helpful!!
I use Electrum stencil product and had customers asking how to get the stencil off 1 week later hahahaha
I use it as well and my stencils come off.....I must be doing it wrong
Those stencils look like they're gonna turn out looking rad man
Thanks!

a tip I learned is you can use stencle stuff it will remove it's self better than green soap will remove it
I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip
Donald Stevens thanks! Gonna try that tomorrow! Sometimes green soap just doesn't cut it when you use stencil stuff or Anchored
Yes it works alot better . Ive started doing this also . Thank you .

hey bro, are you shure alcohol is not irritating the skin? like pure alcohol?
70% isopropyl alcohol, not 200 proof alcohol... hello brother can you show me how to use Spirit Green 11” Carbon Paper , and whats the different between it and the normal ones

Very informative, good info thanks
+B.I. the don Thanks for watching
I make my own , homemade stencil applicator. Works alot better than electrum and stencil stuff . Less than $10 made 2-20 oz bottles .
What exactly is the "green soap" you are using? I've heard about this green soap mixture a lot but I'm not sure exactly what the soap actually is
I use the term Green Soap out of habit. I actually use Dr. Bronners Peppermint soap. You can pick it up at Whole Foods. I have never had an issue with it
Is this type of soap the only brand that would be acceptable to use or are multiple brands ok?
Very informative video, and you seem like a very professional artist but an easy going guy. Thank you for uploading this video!
What paper is it the one you got on it...can you tell?
whst kind of paper r u using bro?
It is just spirit stencil papaer
What do u use to wipe the ink while tattooing ? Thanks
Gram Ramn I guess he uses paper towel with a very thin layer of vaseline. .
do you use a thermal printer or trace your stencils?
+Chad Harrington I use a thermal printer. I know people that only hand trace their stencils and I believe they get a cleaner and more consistent result. I'm just lazy and typically don't rely on perfect stencils since my work is fairly loose and painterly.
Yeah... plus it makes it a lot less of an ordeal when you mess up a placement. :)
+Chad Harrington For sure!

really good tips. make a movie now about - how to make 1 photo of whole picture from 3 photos so it will look flat. its problem with bigger tats...
damn I wish I could've seen the whole tattoo done xD
Thanks. We are actually still working on this one. I'll post a video the next time we work on it.

Yep. It is Spirit Brand transfer paper
I'm confused. Did you use the same stencil twice?
I enjoy your channel
Thanks seems helpful
Tips for placing stencil- the stencil doesn't line up, wipe it off, put it again... So... you also provide do and dont ? :))
Great video. I use Stencil Stuff. Stencil stuff stays rock solid through out the whole tattoo. When you wipe away it'll be on still.
+Richard Luna Thanks. I've used it as well. It does a great job.

400 keys? Sounds right. I googled it. Facts check out.
I just wish tattooed people were still warriors, and criminal behavior, now we have you
But why don't you put the subtitles in Italian? It would be EASIER TO FOLLOW and UNDERSTAND the videos GREETINGS from Palermo Sicily Italy
