    I'm 70 and adore his voice...I remember when they first appeared in 1964. They made other fantastic songs too...there's vids of them live on the Ed Sullivan Show.

    Eric Burdon's voice is so rich and deep and the slight rasp in it is such a nice contrast to their choir boyish looks.
    These guys have been kinda forgotten although their songs are everywhere

    Other live animals - don’t let me be misunderstood; we gotta get out of this place; it’s my life. All these are good. Also Eric burdon’s’ ‘sky pilot’; spill the wine; etc.

    👏Great reaction to an AMAZING SONG! It was waaaay before my time, but the first time I heard it I was hypnotised - Eric's voice - WOW! And Alan Price PLAYED that organ with such SOUL! Never mind The Beatles - The Animals had such a unique sound and should've got more credit for their brilliant music. Thanks for your reaction👏

    Singin' the blues at about 22 here, and Alan Price with that amazing organ playing, classic. Stevie Winwood was even younger when he got started, and Alex Chilton was about 16! when he sang with The Box Tops. Thanks for uploading and be well.

    They let Price sign the contracts, and he only put down his own name. Screwing the other band members. Which led to the breakup. And he received most of the profits.

    My Mom's favorite song. She sang it to me as my lullaby when I was a baby. I dont know if that means that my Mom is the most awesome woman on Earth, or if I was basically cursed from the beginning...
    But its a shitload cooler than "Rockabye Baby" 😎

    House of the Rising Son was used in the movie Casino when everything came crashing down. That's where I remember it from the most.
    I imagine it's been in a lot of other shows/movies though.
    The Animals definitely stand out as something unique and special out of that era.

      @@user-ky6vw5up9m Sounds good.
      Listening to this more, he is basically playing the organ in a traditional "lead guitar" role. He is even "soloing" at points.
      Reminds me of Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. But with the organ, and that powerful frontman belting out the lyrics.

    This song has been around since the 1860s and was originally sung by a woman about being trapped in a brothel. Burdon, the singer, changed it to a man since he was singing it.

    • @coleparker
      @coleparker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought that as well, but apparently I was wrong. It is an old English tune that was based on a house of gambling, prostitution and other activities. The man is ruined becomes a criminal, and is condemned to life in Prison, hence to wear that ball and chain line. I have heard other of the song where this is mentioned.

    This could apply to other "reactions to classics": Somewhere near age 70, Eric Burdon continues to perform (COVID interruptions ofc) and there are a dozen YT vids of him singing this - still rockin - still great - as a "senior" to live crowd tears and acclaim. Would be a worth a watch, for both those who savor the reactions, and those that have a reaction they wish to share.
