I second this, I worked full-time remote for 3.5 months out of my Tacoma/iKamper with the starlink. Powered it with the Goal Zero 1500 with a 100w Jackery panel to offset the power use during the sunlight hours.... We worked from the top of Prewitt Ridge in California and lasted Sunday night to Friday night before my Goal Zero got down to 14%. Starlink was pulling about 40-50Watts straight. This thing is worth every penny if you need high speed internet. Outside of the peak hours in waitlist zones I was averaging 60-180mbps.
We’re you running a fridge with this as well? Curious what it would take to run starlink from 8am-5pm for remote work and my dometic fridge all time. I have solar panels as well.
@@joeydlc It can certainly run both and I did hook up my CFX3 35 to the goal zero to it during the peak sun hours of the day. I ran an additional Jackery1000 for our laptops that would run the fridge overnight and early/late hours of sun. I have the jackery panels so I ran (1) 100w panel on each to offset usage. My Macbook pro is the real power hog and pulls 100w plus my gf's 65w laptop. So we were charging and unplugging to run battery then charging back up during peak hours to maximize solar consumption. It was quite the dance between moving panels for optimal angle and swapping things out for power to stretch it out. 5 days was a real squeeze but it worked. I'd be very confident to get 2-3 days between those two and good sun. We we're above the clouds in prewitt ridge and had no trees to block sun so it was the absolute ideal situation for solar. The hard part on solar offset is the first 3-4hrs of sun and last 3-4hrs of sun the panels drop to like 20-30w. Full sun from say.. 11am-3pm you're pulling in 80-90 if you move them consistently for peak angle. I plan to get the 200w goal zero specific panel for my next trip. THat way I can use both my 100w jackery panels on the jackery1000. THen both will better offset that consumption. Hope that is helpful. I'm happy to talk through way more if you want.
@@TILB dude, thank you so much for the detailed reply. Honestly, this helps so much! Made me confident that I will be okay with my new power station + starlink setup. I too have a MacBook Pro 16” so I will need to be prepared to make sure I can charge the beast as well lol
$135 / month is an amazing price considering what you get and where you're getting service.
StarLink was a game changer at our river house. We didnt even get cell phone reception. Now we can do anything. Love it.
We use it here in Rural Wisconsin I am really impressed with it
I think this would be a great option for wildland firefighters. I wish I had this with me at base camp. We were often in remote locations with limited to no cell service. Coming back off the fire line and in the tent I could have stayed connected with family and friends.

I am curious how it works in cloudy/stormy weather. Back in the day, for satellite TV, performance was pretty seriously negatively impacted. Granted, I am in FL and we have daily thunderstorms in the summer. We are a severe case. But, it's 2022. I am hoping they've figured out how to penetrate cloud cover.

Basically a dollar per mega bit is what it shows. The Wi-Fi speed is irrelevant because that’s only talking about between the phone and the router and not the net.
Works great if you need it and you’re out in the boonies, even if you’re not in the boonies, but it’s still pretty pricey.

Great information. Just what I needed. When I travel to my remote lot near Pagosa Springs the cellular service has been dismal for connecting to internet. T-Mobile said 5-G would fix that when I upgraded my phone but their nearest tower there is weak. Starlink may be a fix.

I just placed a Starlink pre-order for my residence. I currently live In a national forest and have no access to internet other than standard Sat. Internet. Currently we are being told that we should have our Starlink sometime next year and to be honest I'm very excited to adopt this service so early on.
Holy crap this thing in the right environment is as fast as a cable modem setup with 100 mbps speed. That's crazy good. Yeah I am also wondering about cloudy rainy days and how bad it affects connectivity and download speeds. I would also assume that you can connect to wifi and stream off a Smart TV correct ? How about wi-fi extenders ?
Getting ready to pull the trigger on this…. Is it worth it? Does it work good as long as you have a clear view of the sky?
As far as overlanding goes, it would be good to know how much more it draws down your batteries when in heating mode.

I have a Starlink (which I LOVE - performs beautifully) and I'm getting my Kimbo right after Thanksgiving. Is it easy to close the door without damaging the cord? I'm not sure what the door seal is like. I'll have to do some work on my way down to Texas from Washington and I want to be able to keep my little abode warm haha!
It would be better to put the cord out of a window and keep it cracked.

Should be fine with 200 if it’s Lithium. Of you want to run it all day then 4-600 would be the best
When you turn off billing for the month is the month pro-rated or you have to pay for each full month?
I haven’t turned mine off since the beginning so I am not sure. You might be able to find that info on their site.
Would this be a viable full time option? Looking to have it for road and home use.

I’ve used it in snow and rain but nothing crazy and it has been fine so far.
We’re so spoiled. 100 mbps internet via satellite was a unicorn just a few years ago.
I just wish that RV hardware was a little more compact and easier to pack up. But still amazing nonetheless.

I typically just turn it off at night.

Battery life alone makes me like it a lot more. It can go about 3 days before needing a charge

No issues, I do it all the time.
i think verizon has a good option as well for really cheap and they are the only service to have in the outdoors
I had Verizon for almost 15 years and while they are probably one of the best in remote areas… it doesn’t even hold a candle to satellite connection.
New subscriber here...Great video, I haven't ever seen much to do with it up here in Canada. One thing i was was curious about was stability, that dish is going to grab wind so is there holes in the legs to drive spikes through or would you have to sand bag it or something?
Yes there are but It doesn’t grab wind as much as you think.

never gave starlink a good look, last i ever tried satellite internet, the latency was really bad. i see that the low altatude of their sattelites makes for pretty low latency.
Should of just put the dishy on top of the camper instead of on the ground.
