This man is shear magnificence in every way.... What a national treasure for France... He is a world scholar on all music.... May the Lord preserve and bless him ....
To young people listening. No amplifiers, no speakers, no electronics, no computers, no digital manipulation, just pure, powerful sound made by real musicians on real instruments. The organ shakes the building to its core by blowing wind into pipes that stand 32 feet tall. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord!
I'm not sure if people are aware of just how difficult it is to time a pipe organ to an orchestra (or any other instrument) in the same building. Pipe organs are incredible, breathing instruments that take time to generate sound, and even more time for the sound to propagate throughout the building. I'm am truly blow away at the sheer level of skill on display by Mr Roth - an artiste to be sure, and an incredible instrument. As a lifelong student and player of pipe organ I am awestruck by this collaboration. Bravo!
I am addicted to the sound of Cavaillé-Coll's incredible instruments. I got to experience this instrument myself for a few glorious minutes during an organ tour many years ago, and Monsieur Roth was a most gracious host. I got to experience the sounds that Widor and Dupré knew, and I discovered how ergonomic this console is for people less than 6 feet tall. At a hair under 6 feet, I felt cramped. Unforgettable experience! The instrument is indeed breathtaking in person.
+pipe-organ I'll like it for you. What a magnificent sound. Good grief what it you were in that building to hear it live. Imagine what it would sound like if you were standing in the organ.
It's endearing to watch Roth count out the big chords...Lip reading, he counting in French un deux trois, quarte, cinq...I must be tough getting the timing right in such a big building, even with the video monitor
What a terrific performance and recording. I’m an organist, and to get a recording that shows the organist’s perspective in a large church and acoustic such as St Sulpice is pure genius. I’m living the experience with Mr Roth on every single note - just superb. Thank you for posting this video.
Unbelievable! I wonder if Saint Saens ever played that organ. On another note: something equally fantastic. There's a video of Johnathan Scott's transcription of the complete symphony for solo organ. The versions are like 2 big steam locomotives on parallel tracks, both awesome and powerful. From Chicago, U.S.A.
How can one argue with perfection?? Perfect organ by Cavaille-Coll, perfect organist, perfect timing in that echoing building, perfect orchestra balance nicely with the big organ! Magnificent!!
Because he's watching the conductor. The sound of the orchestra and the sound of the organ are reaching each other at the same time and the lag is consistent.
Got goose bumps all over and the hair in my neck stood up ! Simply magnificent ! Thanks so very much for this opportunity to look the organist over his shoulder.
What a gift some TH-cam algorithm gave me by suggesting this. Saint Sean’s third has always spoken to me, but the visual here added so much. The spiritual power of the 4th movement catches fire when we can participate in it through watching the magnificent wrestling of the artists to jointly bring it to life.Simply divine.
The organ at St. Sulpice must be one of the most powerful sounding musical instruments on Earth. There are a number of recorded organ performances from there on the net and even the crappy mp4 format permits some degree of this huge sound to come across.
Very interesting to hear the orchestra in the background and the organ in the foreground. Usually, it is the other way around. What a beautiful piece of music interpreted by masters of their domain.
+Raphaël Meyer Amen to that! I usually can't stand to even listen to this entire piece due to pathetic acoustics in other venues that don't do it justice. But this one is dead on!!!
A superb rendition of Saint-Saens' work. Thanks to the players. i do wish though that the congregation would allow the last bar of the organ to completely fade out before they commence the well deserved applause.
Music just does not get any better than that. Perhaps the greatest piece of music ever written done justice by world class musicians with the greatest of all instruments taking the lead. This is a faultless performance worth the entrance fee by itself.
Thank you Pierre-Francois for this amazing upload. You have put a lot of attention to detail in your postings. This masterpiece by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll is the perfect instrument for this piece. I got to the point of disliking it after so many years but hearing it like this made it new and exciting for me. There's just something spine-tingling about a 32 foot bombarde. Assisting Daniel Roth at the console must have been a great experience. I presume you play as well? It would be a dream if someone like Inspired Acoustics sampled this organ. It's one way that the organ could be kept forever come Hell or high water, or a fire.
I love to listen and watch Daniel Roth master this great instrument as he does so artistically. Thank you so much for your gifts That You share so generously! And, thank you for keeping this important instrument so well protected for the generations to come, and someday be as thrilled by it.
On se croirait dans le cockpit d'un long-courrier !!!! Pilote,co-pilote et mécanicien !!! ety j'dore l'organiste qui compte la mesure à voiX haute !!!! Ceci posé...Belle exécution!
How I wish I could have a recording of this performance. Daniel, I know you will never see this, but I absolutely adore your artistry! You are amazing, sir. Thank God we can enjoy your talent! Best to you from Georgia, USA!
Pierre-François, one curiosity if I can... did you use an ANALOGUE camera and monitor for Daniel Roth to see the conductor? I am asking you this because digital video systems tend to have a very noticeable latency time (propagation delay) due to all the encoding, decoding, processing etc... so when the director waves his hands, his picture on the monitor follows after some tenths of a second... of course, that would be unacceptable for your purposes. So did you have to find an old analogue camera and monitor in order to have zero delay? ;0) Thank you!
I had the great pleasure of attending M. Roth's 30th anniversary recital at St. Sulpice in October 2015. It was thrilling to hear the first mvt. of Widor's 5th Symphony on the instrument it was written for. There were also duets with his assistant Mme Choplin, including a two organ piece with her playing the choir organ. The final long chord of that piece was the most glorious sound I have ever experienced from an organ!
Gotta love those bass drum hits towards the end. It must be hard to play with the orchestra factoring in the time it takes for the sound to travel through Saint Sulpice.
I am watching this for the umpteenth time - every time, it is just pure joy to watch and listen! I have posted here before - it is simply genius to see the organist’s perspective on this wonderful work.
French organ building and composing at its absolute finest
I’ve listened to this so many times, and I never don’t get goosebumps hearing this. Magnificent.
Merci pour cet instant magique qui nous transporte .

Yes!!
I can imagine what scene is like powerful !
Amen to that......
And the Sydney Town Hall organ has a pipe that stands 64 feet tall- although it's bent over to fit into the building.
The expression on Daniel’s face when he plays the first notes is priceless!

When the organ speaks, people can just listen and the orchestra has to bow for the power of the organ.

This instrument is an unbelievable masterpiece
King of all instruments. Accept no less
Why can't I like this twice?
+pipe-organ I'll like it for you. What a magnificent sound. Good grief what it you were in that building to hear it live. Imagine what it would sound like if you were standing in the organ.
+robert shaw RIP ears!
Same wish I could like this 4 times!
It's endearing to watch Roth count out the big chords...Lip reading, he counting in French un deux trois, quarte, cinq...I must be tough getting the timing right in such a big building, even with the video monitor
Now this is the first time EVER we actually see the organist counting the opening bars ! I always do it in my head. 😀
I like how you can see M. Roth going "Un, deux, trois, quatre, cing six . . . " ha ha!
You have to consider the delay of organs also ;)
Mon dieu, quelle merveille...
It's almost unbelievable that a sound this powerful (even by today's standards) was made possible over 100 years ago.
Quelle merveille ! Cela fait un bien immense, même troublant, dans le plus profond du corps et de l'âme !
WOW!!! What I wouldn't give to be there.. amazing performance!😁🎵🎶🎵👍

OMG.....I need cigarette..../Daniel Roth (and Cavaille-Coll) rock the house!!!!! BRAVO!!
Unbelievable! I wonder if Saint Saens ever played that organ. On another note: something equally fantastic. There's a video of Johnathan Scott's transcription of the complete symphony for solo organ. Magnifique "un deux trois quatre cinc six". Could you read his lips? Bravo!
Bravo!
How can one argue with perfection?? Perfect organ by Cavaille-Coll, perfect organist, perfect timing in that echoing building, perfect orchestra balance nicely with the big organ! Magnificent!!
Wow - what an experience that must have been to be in the audience.
Quelle prestation! Incroyable! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Et Merci!
How on earth does Mr Roth allow for the tremendous spatial distance, not only physically but also the incredibly reverberant acoustic? It's wonderful!
Because he's watching the conductor. The sound of the orchestra and the sound of the organ are reaching each other at the same time and the lag is consistent.
@@jimmorgan5612 And he's counting like hell.
The lingering echo on the last chord is pure release; spiritually and emotionally
It gave me chills!
Got goose bumps all over and the hair in my neck stood up !
Simply magnificent !
Thanks so very much for this opportunity to look the organist over his shoulder.
This is a very unique experience listening at the organ side, what a performance

Bien vu !!! Un long courrier à destination de l'excellence et la maestria musicale de st saens,Daniel Roth assure en toute sérénité ce vol
Very interesting to hear the orchestra in the background and the organ in the foreground. Usually, it is the other way around. What a beautiful piece of music interpreted by masters of their domain.
Quelle œuvre magnifique
Thank you for showing how this wonderful piece is played by the organist. Timing is perfect! Wonderful sound!
A truly authoritative and majestic performance! Thank you Daniel Roth! MORE!
I love how he counts aloud to not get lost in the vast accoustic of the buildingXDXDXD. Love this piece. Love how he tackles the challengeXD.
I put the Like at the beginning of the video. I knew it would be good... but My Lord! The Power!!
Wow wow wow!!!! ❤
Love the intense level of concentration. Superb performance.
what wonderful thundering chords at the beginning
Jesus Christ, what a sound...
Usually, I don't like this piece which is often played in a concert hall, with a dry acoustic. But here, it's just grandiose. Thanks for sharing !
+Raphaël Meyer Amen to that! I usually can't stand to even listen to this entire piece due to pathetic acoustics in other venues that don't do it justice. But this one is dead on!!!
Great Daniël !!!!!
I really love listening to this and watching Daniel in action!
Quelle puissance,c'est majestueux.....
Majestly played!!!!!, sooooooo amazing👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Somptueux et puissant !

A superb rendition of Saint-Saens' work. Thanks to the players. i do wish though that the congregation would allow the last bar of the organ to completely fade out before they commence the well deserved applause.
Magnifique cadeau de Dieu! La perfection, comme si Dieu parlait!! Maître Roth!!!
C'est la meilleure interprétation de cette pièce, à ma connaissance, spécialement pour la partie orgue !
Now This is how its done!
Quelle merveille cet Allegro giocoso !!!
Music just does not get any better than that. Perhaps the greatest piece of music ever written done justice by world class musicians with the greatest of all instruments taking the lead. This is a faultless performance worth the entrance fee by itself.

Fantastico!!!!!!!!!!
Un superbe travail ! C'est juste dommage que la partie d'orgue est clairement trop courte...
Impressionnant!
Thank you, thank you
Great interpretation but also a really good sound engineering which makes this the most enjoyable recording I have heard in many years.
AMAZING !!!
Glorious ... simply glorious!
Would loved to have been there, I can only imagine !
Outstanding.
One word: amazing!
Gotta love those bass drum hits towards the end. It must be hard to play with the orchestra factoring in the time it takes for the sound to travel through Saint Sulpice.

Near to God ❤
