Check out gator patches for emergency leak repair. It cures with UV light and hardens like fiberglass. I use it for lots of things. It sticks to even kayaks which is what I use it for. Nice keel protector for kayaks. Would work well for emergency kit on boat.
Oh yes, I subscribed. I am originally from Norfolk and have spent my entire adult life working on boats in Florida. Lots of multihulls. I am looking forward to watching this.
Nice, I took on a similar project this year, a Hirondelle MK2 catamaran. It is now sitting on the hard undergoing extensive refurbishment. These old English mad boats are tanks, and sail great. Good luck!
@@9to5less, yes the full bridge deck is all about inside space. The Iroquois is 7 foot longer so it can spare a bit more inside space for the trampolines. The trampolines are nice to have if you get into bigger water as waves can break through them versus slamming into the bridge deck. I looked seriously at the Iroquois as well, but I wanted something I could put on a trailer and move around myself when the need came up and that ended up being the deciding factor for me. The Hirondelle fits on to a pontoon boat trailer, and at 10 feet 10 I can tow it anywhere with a permit. I will be watching your journey with anticipation. Enjoy the journey!
Oh that's really cool! Yea I'll never be putting this Iroquois on a trailer for sure. James told me how much it costs and all of the permits involved. It's crazy. I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos. We had no idea if anyone but us would like them. Thanks for your support!!
I have to admire your choice by just going for it and getting a clunker of a boat! It floats, and the engine works, but it leaks and needs a donor Cat to provide many systems and parts. I hope you kept on lookout for busted up boats to scavenge after hurricanes/tropical storms. You will learn a lot and wish you both the best!
We purchased a Catamaran in Oriental NC. took 8 trips to get her into shape and sailed her to Lake Erie. Was a great trip and with alittle work she is a great sailing Cat! You have a nice Hull to start with, she could be a great boat!
My first project boat was, shall we say, “a learning experience”. After struggling for years, I sold it unfinished for a fraction of what I paid for it. Unfortunately, this project looks like an absolutely massive “learning experience”. On the positive side, my second project boat was sailing in four months and is worth twice the purchase and renovation cost. Your optimism is commendable. Good luck.
I feel bad for the new owner. Something like that should have been given for free and the previous owner could have taken it to its new home for free too. This will cost more than building from scratch if done properly. I feel that even with money to refit it and build a youtube channel it would end up being too small. If I have one suggestion, accept that the seller scammed you, find a way to get rid of it and buy another decent boat after getting more boat knowledge. For $6,000 you could have bought a good monohull that would only need a bit of refreshing. Sincerely good luck.
Cats don't go for free. Outboard fired on the first pull. Really depends on how far you want to go with it, but you could make it sailable for 5 to 7K with a LOT of sweat.
Jeff Durden Rigging alone would cost that much. Very expensive project boat, fun but expensive way to start. 20k and about 1000 hours you might be able turn it into a good working cat. But hey its really about the adventure and the journey.
@@justusetpecator Hi Eric, I replaced all the standing rigging on my Oday 22' for about 600 bucks dockside with a hand-swager. (I know, lighter boat) But we did a buddies 31' Mirage with those newer compression fittings for 2500 or so, which is probably comparable. It took some research, but rigging isn't rocket science. Add 1500 bucks for a set of used sails in fair/good condition, 3 grand for resin, glass, paint, used winches etc. Oh yeah, a shit-ton of work, more than they have any ideal! I really hope they have someplace to work for free though or the yard fees will kill them. Will it be ready to cross an ocean? Nope, but they could probable coast-hop to Fl without drowning. I hope that cat has an active owners association though, these kids are going to need some serious back-up.

Jim!!! I’ve watched many videos on your boat! Congratulations on doing the great loop with just solar! I would love to have an electric option for this catamaran as it’s very light and efficient through the water. Would love to meet up somewhere sometime. Where is this next adventure taking you?
Cool video! We live aboard our sailboat preparing to sail around the world... very similar to the bus lifestyle! Maybe we will try it out if we ever move to land, but for now we are enjoying our life afloat
Not sure who the guy is who sold you the boat, helped you too with repairs, and upkeep, and offered to put you both up when the storm hit, he was/is a really nice cool guy!!
Cookie Dough yes and could paint hull with paint and small roller after finishing the hull ,I use urethane fortified machinery paint gallon of white about 35.00 here in Ontario Canada even says good for marine use
Money gets you alot further.......... Let's see.....new interior, new electrical cabling, batteries, handrails, sails, rigging, rudder, lines, anchor, radio, gps, navigation light, new windows, new window seals (swimming to shore can be a pain in the a**), fiberglass and other material to properly fix the hull, new hatches, lifebouys, lifejackets and overhauling the outboard by a certified mechanic aint also a bad idea. Your wallet will drain faster then you can say amen. Ofcourse you dont have spend a dime on that wreck, but sooner then later you WILL find out that the open sea is a bitch. But hey it is your life, just dont expect that other people will risk theirs to save yours.
Yea me too. Never did a boat but I’ve done several old cars and proved people wrong. The only thing I learned was “ It would gave been cheaper to buy a newer and better boat or car”. It would have been great if you had gotten it free!!! Good luck. Looking forward to see if you ever get it finished.
@@Seahorn_ Meh. I salvaged a derelict sloop about ten years ago and began rebuilding her on spare time and spare change. You're never going to get back to "like new" condition without spending probably as much as a new boat in most cases but to get to a sailing condition can be fun and cheap. My outboard is now new but my first was a freebee that ran fine. Fiberglass and resin were probably my largest expense as most everything else like safety equipment, sails and small parts all come from Crieg's list, E Bay and swap meets for pennies on the dollar. Everyone has boat stuff for sale.

Hi Tim the boat will be going up to Canada out to Toronto and back down the Hudson to Florida. About a 4000 mile journey where you us at now as we’re in Tampa
This one looks like an old home built project. The bridge deck might be regular construction ply. Your rigging fittings are missing and water must be rotting the core in the roof. Yeah, radio is a must so is a radio course and licence.
Miss my time spent on Colington Island, Kitty Hawk Bay and the whole Albermarle sound. I bought a old shrimp boat back in the 90's and rebuilt it like you guys are doing with the catamaran. Love the ammo box as your go to tool box, had one myself.
New boaters are so cute. What could possibly go wrong? Fully functional examples are asking 25-35K. Don't throw more money at it than it is worth. Good luck with the project!
Two steering wheel stations under a clear dodger with sails and motor controls accessible to each side and the interior having sliding kitchen appliances on a rail system going forward in the upper unusable portion of the forward berths, facilitating room for ballroom dancing and reason for the mirrored disco ball hanging from the ceiling and all those LED lights might make for a good passagemaker.
Subscribed! Good luck restoring that boat. I m writing from Italy and I'm owner of one boat as your, She's a '69 made in England: I'll follow your works with big interest
Bought with enthusiasm, warts and all! The good news is, without any cladding and bear naked inside, the restoration guide is visibly available! Good luck the pair of you, if anything have fun! Keep up your sense of humour and adventure and you'll get there.🍀
My hat's off to you guys. That took some intestinal fortitude ride that thing anywhere...much less in a storm...with giant lightning rod strapped to the roof. I hope you can make it all work and get it out on the water to make your dreams come true.
Need a big jet ski to propel the boat , need a docking station and remote control from main deck , then when you run in open water you have an escape vehicle.
Your boat needs a haul out. They are cheaper in the south hemisphere. You’ve got fiberglass, so I recommend some anti fouling coat for the hull. Spray foams might take care of any potential leaks on the inside. Bell-syphon to automatically pump out the water and Splash zone for fast but temporary hull repairs are your buddies in an emergency. Don’t forget the lifejackets, emergency radio and invest in a life raft. Good luck guys:)
Dude you’re totally right!! We are going to go minimal with it and since it’s already gutted so we don’t have the hard work of removing all of the old rotten wood. So glad you’re enjoying our videos!! Thanks for the support!!!

Twin 30 hp would be the cats ass especially for redundancy and more so for docking and turning about in tight quarters

Check out gator patches for emergency leak repair. It cures with UV light and hardens like fiberglass. I use it for lots of things. It sticks to even kayaks which is what I use it for. Nice keel protector for kayaks. Would work well for emergency kit on boat.
Cool! I’ve never heard of that! Thanks!
Oh yes, I subscribed. I am originally from Norfolk and have spent my entire adult life working on boats in Florida. Lots of multihulls. I am looking forward to watching this.
The odds are so stacked against them but I love the sense of adventure and enthusiasm and hope all goes well.
Nice, I took on a similar project this year, a Hirondelle MK2 catamaran. It is now sitting on the hard undergoing extensive refurbishment. These old English mad boats are tanks, and sail great. Good luck!
Hey Mike! Good luck with yours! I just looked that up and it's a beautiful boat! Crazy that it doesn't have the trampoline up front. I kinda like that
@@9to5less, yes the full bridge deck is all about inside space.
James should pay you to remove this boat from there.
He just said should I be to the right of the green. OMG.
Coolest boot pople
For your weather, check out predict wind, windy, weather underground or wind finder. Those you will find are very useful.
Just downloaded them. Thanks for the tip. Had a look at Windy. This is going to be so useful! Thanks!
@@9to5less yeah buddy good luck in your adventures! Safe Travels...
Love to see a new story beginning. Wishing you all th
e best
Thanks for the support Ian!
Pay no mind to the "experts" in your comments. It's your money and your time. Have fun and best of luck. I'm subscribed.
Good luck.
Yep you make your money (or lose it) when you buy a boat
You took what you learn't from your first boat and applied it to your second, I imagine that's what this couple will do too.
I’m glad everything worked out for you in the long run and that you learned a lot. That’s what we’re going for too. Thanks for your support!
Leaky thin hulled boat. What can go wrong? I'm in!
Thanks for coming along!!!
Tell me you didn't really pay 6000 dollars for that.
Lol
I am repairing two boats now. I will keep an eye out and see how you do!
Shit this is madness there's just so much that can go wrong with this journey. Talk about underresouced unprepared and inexperienced but hey this is what adventures are made of I wish you well am subscribed i
just saw your video and thanks for sharing your dream. At least you might be able to sell the outboard for more than the fiberglass craft you bought. good luck on the dream and don't ever give up!
Just stumbled on your site. We’re taking the solar boat RA out on new adventures around the first of year and I’m inspired by you guys doing your dream and not letting the negative things stop you. My best to you and who knows maybe we’ll pass you on one of the many waterways of our life’s dreams. Good luck to you. Skipper Jim Solar Boat RA. 32,000 miles of sun power and counting
Would love to see you prove all of us naysayers wrong. Lots of sweat can take you far.
“You want something bigger and better”, ‘yeah, something that actually sea worthy!’ A fool and his money are soon parted!
Haha my old boat. I did the fiberglassing (not the sugar scoops)and built that makeshift motormount. Sold it to James
Hahaha. That’s a amazing! Through these videos I’ve met the previous 3 owners prior to James owning it. You were the missing link! The makeshift transom has held up well. I even stood on it while I was checking the oil. Nice job!!
im hooked, this is gonna be an entertaining series :D
You guys look very green....all the more satifying when everything falls together for you...preparing a boat is lots of work...if you stay passionate and persistant, your dream will happen...good luck!
Those two remind me of the stories of two people who went sailing and were never heard from again.
@@textech4056 God, I hope not....hope they realize most of it is not fun and games....
I know what you are facing as I built a 48 ft sloop. I wish you all the best luck on your venture. I'm subscribing!!!
I very rarely subscribe did so almost immediately....There’s plenty of rich folks making videos on their fancy boats ......then here you 2 are ....awesome!.....heroes to all Joe Regulars with a dream✌️
I just read your comment out loud and we are laughing pretty hard. Thanks for that and for your support!!
New subscriber. Love the Cat. You have some tough work ahead. It's going to be fun seeing the progress. We spent 10 months restoring a Catalina 22. It was worth the time spent. We now have a like new sailboat for thousands less.
Thanks for your support!! You give us hope. We don’t have a lot of money and want to learn about boat repair so this was the boat for us haha.
Brilliant! A proper adventure (or start of one) nicely shot and narrated. From knowing nothing your learning curve will be steep but memorable. Isn't that what it is all about. Thanks for your efforts.
I just found your channel and I’m so stoked. This is my 5 to 7 year plan to find a used cat and bring her back to life. I’m so looking forward to going along with you on your journey.
The hull looks so thin that the light passes throw it
thats normal with many GRP boats
@@wysiwyg2006 yeah but lol............ that would need wheel guard rubber paint to stop me stressing over it lol, i wouldnt take this on a lake until i put about 30-50k into it hahahaha. but i wish them well
Those glassed-in steps cracked me up.
Good luck. You are going to need lots of it. But the end result will be worth it.
Depth sounder? Zip, Charts? Zip, GPS, nope, This is great, a good sized roached boat, an undersized motor, a bare minimum of equipment, no experience at all, a long trip, dang, this is what life is for...popcorn is done....subbed.
Hahaha.. Love it!
And it looks easy to see the structure shape and good time to fix it right
Hi Tim the boat will be going up to Canada out to Toronto and back down the Hudson to Florida. About a 4000 mile journey where you us at now as we’re in Tampa
6.8k subscribers? yeah, that number is about to grow, fast! stoked to follow along!
this is the best comedy on youtube
Wow...that is it...just wow!!! Ain't got no radio...this kid is hilarious...prayers!!!
Can’t wait to see if you can actually make this floating piece of flotsam into something that resembles a functional boat. This is hilarious!!
This one looks like an old home built project. The bridge deck might be regular construction ply. Your rigging fittings are missing and water must be rotting the core in the roof. Yeah, radio is a must so is a radio course and licence.
Hint: in channels "Red Right Returning" that means leaving, keep the red to the left. and green to the right.
When going into port for a port keep port to port.
Probably the most important thing to know if you don't know anything else! I'm dyslexic so I have to slap myself first to be sure I'm correct.
James was just excited that you were the one paying the money to make the boat go away, and not him.
He was pretty happy about it!
@@9to5less weird ehh?
wow! that looks like a fun project to work on. congrats on your purchase
We love it! Thanks so much!
Miss my time spent on Colington Island, Kitty Hawk Bay and the whole Albermarle sound. I bought a old shrimp boat back in the 90's and rebuilt it like you guys are doing with the catamaran. Love the ammo box as your go to tool box, had one myself.
Subscribed! Good luck restoring that boat. I haven’t seen anyone on TH-cam starting with a boat in that condition. Hope to see more content.
Haha. Awesome! Thanks! Yea it’s definitely going to be a lot of work but we are up for it. Many more videos to come!
Check out Big Easy Sailing on TH-cam. They restored a $4000 Gulfstar 36 from a skeleton to a useable boat. A great watch1
Cool project.... Ever wonder if you should omit the mask & sail . And just add a larger OB engine (I would) . CMN
When your pounting the watter coming in i can see light coming in like a light bright haha
I can hear Celine Dionne singing as I watch this.
New boaters are so cute. What could possibly go wrong? Fully functional examples are asking 25-35K. Don't throw more money at it than it is worth. Good luck with the project!
Thanks for the support! Gonna go minimal with it.
kudos to all wifes that are willing to stick together to husband's madness....
Adorable little cat you've got there.. Super nice seller. Best of luck and fair winds to you all. Livin' the dream !
Thanks Mendax! We love it and can’t wait to fix it up!!!
Subscribed! Good luck restoring that boat.
I m writing from Italy and I'm owner of one boat as your, She's a '69 made in England: I'll follow your works with big interest
Very cool Nicola! Does your boat have the round windows? Thanks for the support!!
@@9to5less Hi
Yes, my boat has two round window on aft cabins
N
@Nicola Marchi those are awesome! Very cool!
the beverly hillbillies go sailing. a life jacket or two would be nice
Noooooooooo!!!! No boating with the dreaded MANBUN!!! The manbun means disaster!
Glad you didn't rush into this decision. That could have been deadly.
Thanks so much Fred! We can't wait to fix this thing up and take it to really cool places!!
This will be a great playlist to look for when you finish the whole boat :D
It will be sooo many videos to finish this whole boat lol
Now that is what I call exciting.
You can really fix this thing up well to your own taste, totally blank canvas.
Best of luck
Dude you’re totally right!! We are going to go minimal with it and since it’s already gutted so we don’t have the hard work of removing all of the old rotten wood. So glad you’re enjoying our videos!! Thanks for the support!!!
@@9to5less Bro stay with this one... this isn't an old bayliner POS... you basically have is a sailboat version a 1969 corvette. Sails and rigging will be big $$$ when you get to that point but get a real helm and a bigger motor if you are going to motor around. Twin 30 hp would be the cats ass especially for redundancy and more so for docking and turning about in tight quarters
I’m praying for you buddy, and I don’t even believe in god.
Looking forward to what you do with this channel. Do you plan on raising the mast so you can sail the boat? Do you plan on living on the boat?
Thanks David! It may be too much work and money to justify getting this cat back to sailing condition but we'll see. Definitely want to live on it over the winter and if we really like it we may just keep living on it. Got a lot of work to do to make it comfortable.
@@9to5less thanks. I may be following the wrong type of channel if you have no plans to sail it. Thanks.
Well... this will definitely be a learning experience. Good luck friend!
Thanks David! We have already learned sooo much and are looking forward to everything!
I think that same boat was on another channel. Good luck - Wow!
i hope yall have like another 30k to make that thing usable !
These guys got balls to live like that. I couldn't/wouldn't want to but hey, to each his own, right? Go for it!!!
