I have a friend who her husband was in the military and the military told her that due to the intense way her husband passed away from the military that he was qualified for benefits so she went and looked into it the military had killed her husband today he stepped off the airplane his life it ended and it was service connected to the poisons that they cost and the military said do not you do not have to turn that in because it was service-connected can you answer. In other words he gave his life for our country our country killed him our government kills him and he gave his life for our country the military said that his death was service connected and that she should not be having to turn that in to the government because of it was service connected he died serving our country.
Hi Ed , I reached out to you months ago about this exact situation. I filed for Survivors Benefits over 1 year ago and I haven't received any money to date. I had an appointment scheduled with social security to find out the person that scheduled the appointment doesn't even come into the office on the day my appoitment was scheduled. I have given my original documentation to someone at my local office to make copies only to find out 5 months later those documents were never upload into the social security system. At this point I have resorted to getting my State Representative involved in assisting me. I am beyond frustrated with social security to say the least.
That's the best way to solve an issue like that. Contact your federal politician on their website. There's usually a button that says need help with a government agency. When I ran my social security office any time we got those, those were the highest priority.
Yes Ed, I appreciate you helping us understand things. I'm still trying to figure out thecdual entitlement you spoke of. Am I supposed to be getting a dual entitlement on survivors benefits. I was born February 1956he was younger than I am.
My grandfather passed away two years ago and my grandmother sent the required documents at that time. To this day they have not answered her calls nor given her any information about the money. On one occasion they told her that they did not recommend her to call them because they would put her last on hold, which really made me upset since they were basically making a disguised threat to her just because she wanted to know novelties about the process. Reading the comments I realize that my grandmother is not the only one going through this situation, it is truly frustrating and disapointing that this type of abuse and injustice happens. They are basically denying people of their rights by delaying them and refusing to answer.
Thank you Dr. Ed! After getting advice from you in one of your live Q&A sessions last fall, I applied for survivor benefits. I was divorced years ago, and I didn't realize this was an option for me. I received my first benefit payment this week. I can let my own benefit amount increase until I am 70 and then I will be getting a nice raise! 😁
@@vickijd22 only if that surviving person was remarried after the age of 60, or if any subsequent marriage prior to age 60 has ended in death or divorce.
Finally! I have been confused over DRCs and now you finally made it clear! It is based on whether the spouse is alive or deceased. I wanted to answer a simple question: "To give my surviving spouse the largest survival benefit, does it do any good to go to 70, or are my survivor benefits to my spouse capped at the FRA amount at 70?" As I understand it now yes, wait till 70 if your prime concern is ensuring your spouse gets the largest amount of survivor benefit.
@@MyGovExpert I thought even if the Spouse that dies but didn't take SS until 70 the surviving spouse can only get up the FRA of 67 of the deceased spouse .. in other words the survivor does not get the 70 amount benefit...
No. Example: Here is the truth about survivor benefits. If your husband gets 3,000 a month and you get 1,000 a month and he dies. You will get only $500.00 dollars more each month. Why? Because you get 50% of your husbands pay, But not on top of what you get. So your 1,000 plus $500 from your husbands is $1500.00 Guess who keeps the other $2500 of your husband SS? and guess who keeps your 1,500 when you die? The government does. How the hell is SS running out of money???
Mr. ED I have never heard anything of what you just said and my husband was 39 years old and he was a veteran...they also stopped my and my son's benefit as age 16 and he did a secondary...when he graduated he went to college...I have come to realize that I might as well let this matter go...I have learned a lot...thank you for your time 😊
I made an appointment at the SS office and asked if they could tell me what I would receive when I was 62 as my survivor widow SS from my husband. They said, I had to file for it and then find out at 62. They would not just tell me. Very disappointing.
Hi Ed, I'm 60 and on disability, husband died 2020. Married in 2014. Never divorced. Can I get surviving benefits. He had not begun receiving his SS. Not sure about that fact. He got sick so he may have begun some sort of payment either medicaid or SSI. Can I get benefits.
I have never heard anyone on TH-cam discussing SSA Survivor Benefits bring up a crucial piece of information about Widows FRA being four (4) months less than a regular FRA. For those born after 1/1/1938 and before 1/2/1962, the widow's full retirement age (FRA) is 4 months earlier than the normal FRA. Please add this to your future videos. Thanks
Thank you so much for your videos. You are so helpful to others. So many on TH-cam who claim to know how the SSA works and they really don't. They are usually right but then make mistakes and people believe it. Then they lose out on their benefits. Again thank you!
Very few even get that $255 burial payment. They told me my Mother needed to have worked the last quarter. She had lung cancer and couldn’t work!? She was 3 months from turning 81. And was on SSI since 65.
@@MyGovExpert She had Medicare A & B, And some Teachers Insurance company. Then when she got lung cancer, her home health nurse switched her to Medicaid. My husband recently passed away on June 1, 2024. I will be 59 in July. I'm currently receiving SSDI. Can I wait until i turn 60 next year to collect? Or does the amount increase as I get older? I'm not wanting to decrease the amount.
When to switch from widower benefit to your SSA is not easy. My widower benefit is about $700 less than my own. Would love to see a graph on this. Like they do with SSA 62-70

Thank you for helping so many! I have a question for you with the new laws. I have been on disability for the past nine years. My husband passed away a year before I received ssd. Away a year before I receive social security disability. So I'm receiving disability and / survivor benefits? I will be turning 62 in December of 2024. Will they automatically roll me over for the same amount of money? Do I need to do anything on my part? Thank you!
Thank you Ed. It’s been a few weeks since I reached out to my representatives office. I am hopeful that I hear something soon. As I said before, it’s been over a year since we I applied.
My young husband passed away in 2013. I went to SSS office and they told me that I can claim SSS benefit when I reach 60 even if I get remarried in future. I am also a worker and have a current husband who I married in 2018. Can I apply for SSS spousal benefits now that I am turning 62? I intend to file for my own SSS retirement on my 67 years old?
It is almost impossible to get that. What does the government do with all that money that people can't get or just quit trying cuz they make it too difficult for a measly $250
I'm a divorced spouse who worked as a DoD employee. Previously denied payments due to having a retirement benefit on my own. So that has changed. So can I collect retro what I should have received.
My sister's husband age 49 passed away in December. She recently applied for SSA survivor benefits and is currently receiving approximately $2500 for her and $2500 for their 6 year old. From what we understand her $2500 stops for my sister when their daughter is 16 (10 years). My niece's stops at 18. My question: Will my sister still be able to claim SSA survivor benefits at age 60 or 62+ as well or is she giving up that right since she is taking benefits now? Thanks for the help!

At 51 I was awarded 71.5% forever, my husband was 53 when he passed away. I'm disabled and I receive SSDI with widows benefits. She can remarry @60 unless she's disabled then she can remarry @50
In May of 2001 my wife passed away. We had a 5 yr old daughter. My daughter could not receive anything because we were told my wife did not pay in enough . We got nothing. My wife and I were married for 21 yrs.
My wife recently passed at 64 three months before her 65th birthday and when she planned to claim SS benefits. I retired about 2 years prior to her passing and was receiving my pension benefits. I applied for and was awarded survivors benefit but the benefit was reduced to zero because (as it was explained to me) my pension benefit - 75%, was more than the awarded survivor benefit. That's when i was made aware of the GPO. (Government Pension Offset) The rule that says a government (federal, state or local) employee who earns a pension, and you DON'T contribute to SS... My issue is I've been contributing to SS while working at this same job for nearly 40 years. I never stopped contributing to SS and it was never offered to me as an option to stop. Am I missing something? I've since submitted a "reconsideration" application, but I've not heard from SS yet.
I am trying to apply for survivor benefits (I think it is?) because I am a disabled adult why became disabled before age 18, who lost both my parents as a child and then was adopted. My adoptive father worked for the fire Department all his life and I have been told that b I qualify for some benefits but have never been helped with how to try and apply. Also my adoptive parents also now passed away. They were insured and paid into the system for 47 years. I don’t know how to even navigate this because everyone’s dead except me.

Thanks for the video. My wife passed away January 2023. We were both in our 60s. She was 62 and disabled for many years and getting SS disability. I was 66 and getting my own SS.. She was getting about $2000/month and I was getting about $1900/month. Am I entitled to any SS benefits from my wife's account? I have only gotten my husband's social security. Was i supposed to get a dual entitlement? Im still only getting his. I'll be 69 in February. I began collecting in December 2020 I'm thinking . So what are you talking about a dual benefit. I've been waiting to get to age 70 then collect my social security by building up 8% each year. I'll be 70 in February 2026. But what's this dual amount you spoke of? Should I be getting more than his social security? I was born February 1956. My full retirement was 66& 4 months. So June 2022 i was at full retirement then.
My spouse of 30 years was on disability and passed away at 51. I took early retirement after 28.5 years at the County I live in. I chose to get a higher amount of local government employees retirement until I’m 62, I’m 57 now, and the pension amount will reduce by my projected SSA benefit amount. I know I can draw on my husband at 60 and I can switch to mine one time. Can I keep drawing his benefits past 62 and wait until mine is more than his to switch? Will I get 100% of his at 60, 7:03 or a lesser amount? Does it make any difference he was on disability? Thank you.
So overwhelming. My wife just passed away 03/2024 and she was the bread winner. I am 49, we have three boys all under the age of 16. How in my scenario do I handle apply? Hoping the survivor benefits will be enough to pay the rent etc. My situation is fairly unique and any chat about math or numbers and its all greek to me. Thanks!

Hi - would this also apply to any surviving spouse (more than one spouse) in the case where there was more than one marriage meeting the requirements? Ex, first marriage lasted over ten years and resulted in divorce, second marriage to the same person lasted beyond death. The second spouse takes survivor benefits. Can the first divorced spouse also take full survivor benefits?
@ToneOfWig The first 'x' of at least 10 years is allowed to file for survivor benefits as long as they didn't remarry before age 60. There's more conditions if other factors are involved.
I’m disabled 59 and receive survivors, and had 2 sons that are now of age. They where receiving as well. I’m receive it a considerable amount less than what each son got. I’ve called and they said I’m drawing maximum. If my sons drew full amount I still do not receive 71 % of what they drew. Does this sound right? I might add my spouse was not drawing SS but passed from cancer at age 53
A surviving child receives 75%. A spouse depends on how early you file. But there's a widows cap that might get you more. Try requesting a reconsideration and ask them to evaluate the widow's cap, they call it the RIB LIM. Good luck, Ed....and sorry for the late reply.

My husband just passed away and he was 59 and he was getting disability. We was married for 9 and half months. I am 61. What should I be able to file for and how much should I be able to get?
My wife, 9 years older than I, passed away recently, and she was receiving about $300/ month. I should be receiving approximately $3500/month in about 4 years when I retire at 67. Am I supposed to be receiving my wife's 300/month now until I retire at 67? or something like that? until I retire?

My spouse passed away in 2022 at 45 y/o. If I claim survivor benefits at 60 & still work full time. I’m assuming social security will taxed me since my earnest income will be higher. Is this correct?
Hi , Ed thanks for info on ex spouse benefits. My ex passed before collecting and we both never remarried. He also served in army for 8 years before we married . Can i collect on that?
My husband’s base SS pay is $3,000 at his full retirement age. However, he has worked past that age and his SS check is $4,000 and is still paying in at 79 years of age. My benefit pay is $1,500. If I’m full retirement age(70) what would be my benefit?

Don’t ever give them your original documents if they are irreplaceable. Make copies before you go!
That's the best way to solve an issue like that. Contact your federal politician on their website. There's usually a button that says need help with a government agency. When I ran my social security office any time we got those, those were the highest priority.
They lied to me after my husband passed away, kept playing ball wirh me, finally I got a lawyer and she is working on it already
😊😊😊
@@patriciaruthescutialerma1143Lied to you how?
Ed you are doing such a great job of helping the general public understand complicated information, thank you.
Thank you so much for saying that. I really do appreciate it.
ED!!! I have my survivor benefits appointment for my kids and I next week. This video is helping with the "unknown".❤
I'm so happy I got it out for you in time. I'll get part 2 up in a couple days! Take care of yourself, Ed
Keep hearing about if u remarry before 60. Then hear if married 3 times u can collect off the highest amount. Which is it?
Ss.gov is a great resource as well. Be informed..they frequently give incorrect information.
Awesome!!! We were able to find more money out there!! Let's keep it going by sharing and liking and all the other TH-cam stuff! Take care, Ed
Can a divorced person collect on their late x-husband if that person is now remarried?
@@vickijd22 Yes!
@@vickijd22 only if that surviving person was remarried after the age of 60, or if any subsequent marriage prior to age 60 has ended in death or divorce.
@@vickijd22 I think if the divorced person did not remarry before they were 60. If the divorce person is disabled different rules apply
Exactly! Yea, they make the whole thing way too confusing.
Mr. ED I have never heard anything of what you just said and my husband was 39 years old and he was a veteran...they also stopped my and my son's benefit as age 16 and he did a secondary...when he graduated he went to college...I have come to realize that I might as well let this matter go...I have learned a lot...thank you for your time 😊
Sorry to hear you got the wrong information. If it wasn't too long ago, you might request SSA to reopen your case. Take care, Ed
There still could be help for you
I made an appointment at the SS office and asked if they could tell me what I would receive when I was 62 as my survivor widow SS from my husband. They said, I had to file for it and then find out at 62. They would not just tell me. Very disappointing.
I can tell you are genuine 🙏😇🙏

I agree. I spend a lot of my time doing videos and correcting others mistakes.
❤❤ thanks for sharing the information ❤❤

Very few even get that $255 burial payment. They told me my Mother needed to have worked the last quarter. She had lung cancer and couldn’t work!? She was 3 months from turning 81. And was on SSI since 65.
Yes, you do have to be insured for Social Security to get the lump sum death payment
@@MyGovExpert She had Medicare A & B, And some Teachers Insurance company. Then when she got lung cancer, her home health nurse switched her to Medicaid. When to switch from widower benefit to your SSA is not easy. My widower benefit is about $700 less than my own.

$700 less. That's a lot...might be a good idea to switch

Thank you!
No, you don't have to do anything. Nothing changes when you turn 62.
Thank you Ed. It’s been a few weeks since I reached out to my representatives office. I am hopeful that I hear something soon. As I said before, it’s been over a year since we I applied.
That is completely unsatisfactory. Hopefully they make it right.

Hi Ed I have a question I was a approved for SSDI quite a while back for end stage Glaucoma I'm blind however since that time got a life threatening autoimmune disease called Dermatomyositis with Myopathy code M33.12 I was speaking with my clinic recently I informed that you know I don't even know if SSA is aware of the Autoimmune disease but the doctor said yes they are aware of all your conditions ever so often they subpoena for my records ok no they didn't use that strong of language but said it's routine they inform the SSA of all new conditions is this true or did they doctor just say that sadly my condition is very serious when applying for SSSI you know how hard it is to meet a listing both of of my diseases are listing level conditions
Sorry, I'm a doctor but I'm not that kind of a doctor.

At the time she passed I notified SS that she had passed and they sent me a check for about $250 one time payment but no more of her regular checks. Thanks
Thank you.
When you file early, it's almost always reduced. But you can file on his and then switch to yours when your benefit amount becomes more.
So overwhelming. My wife just passed away 03/2024 and she was the bread winner. I am 49, we have three boys all under the age of 16. How in my scenario do I handle apply? (I have been unemployed for over a year due to my own health issues I am currently working on). Hoping the survivor benefits will be enough to pay the rent etc. My situation is fairly unique and any chat about math or numbers and its all greek to me. Thanks!
So sorry to hear that. Please call SSA today and file for surviving children benefits. 800-772-1213 Also, I ask about surviving child in care benefits as well... but there probably won't be any money left over after they give benefits to your children. They will explain that to you.Take care, Ed

I am 72 yrs old and just lost my husband of 20 yrs 7 months ago. I have filed with ss at the office after his passing, had the phone appointment two months later. I called back every two months to find out why I still haven't seen his social security. His is more than mine and I was told I should be receiving his. Should it take this long?
Here is the truth about survivor benefits.
Im only getting 595 of my husbands .. I was on disability and so was he. I get surviving spouse from him only.. ?? Why Ssa said im only getting half...
Not sure possibly because they subtract the amount of money you're receiving and then give you the difference between his and yours.
I lost my husband past away when he was in his 30s, I didn’t know I could get this. Can I still receive Survivor benefits. I am 73. I do however receive SSA. Please help
If there's more money on survivor benefits, absolutely. call social security and have them check.
Ed, I have a question, My sister inlaw is 72. She started receiving benefits at 62. She has minimal income, so the benefits were low. Her husband was twelve years younger than her and just passed away at 60. He never drew benefits and made much more. Is she now eligible for his benefits even though she is already receiving benefits? And at what % amounts?
Ibmerlin: As I understand it, she has been getting half his benefit. On his death, she will get about his entire benefit amount. There are some fine points
My sister's husband recently passed at the age of 60. She received her first survivor/spousal SSI check this month. If it were ever cut off, can it be reinstated?
Hi Ed, my wife, same age as me, has not worked many years so we’re hoping for 150% of my benefit. Say at 67 I get 3000 and at 70 3800. And family max is 5000. If I retire at 70 do we get 1.5x3800=5700 or just 5000?

My husband retired at full retirement age but I took mine at 62 to care for my parents … what would my surviving spousal benefit be ?
Hello. My spouse was receiving SSDI at the time of his death. Would the 71.5% of widow benefits be calculated by the amount that he was receiving at the time of his death or by the amount he would've been receiving if he were still alive?
If it's a disabled widow's benefits, then it's calculated against his PIA... his full benefit amount
Dr. Ed I'm in my 70's and my ex is 65 can I still file on his benefits if I'm getting spousal support we were married 25 yrs
Need to file for dependant parent, Social Security told me their is no such thing , if the child didn't work.

Hello Ed. I have a phone appointment on March 20th to set up Widow's benefits. Will it be possible to also set up an in-person appointment with SS? I just want to confirm that the amount I will get is correct. I don't want to end up with an overpayment issue. Also I have heard you can only have 2K in your bank account. What happens if I get a part-time job at some point and I go above the 2K limit even if it is just for a few days. Can I take some of the money and just put it in a savings account in order to keep my checking account below 2K. Can I divert some money to my retirement account?
If it's survivor benefits, then how much you have in the bank is none of their business. Yes, you can request an in office appointment.
What do you do if I had a surviving child age 15 but social security would never give me spousal benefits. They said I had to wait until I was 60.

My spouse was collecting social security benefits (disabled) when she passed away from cancer at age 58 in 2022. If I file for survivor benefits at age 60 in 2026, will I get the amount she was receiving x 71.5% or will it be adjusted any due to cola?
You should get the full benefit amount minus the reductions for early retirement.
Does a person ( husband )have to be receiving SS benefits at the time of their death in order for their spouse to receive the husband benefits?? Example, if I am waiting till 70 to receive my SS benefit and I die at 69 , will my wife receive spousal benefit from my SS even though I was not receiving SS
My hushand die 9 years ago. Im still collecting his benefitss. Im 66 called irs they told me is best if i wait till im 70???? To collect maximum benefits.
I’m collecting s.s. early due to disability at the age of 48. I was married over 25 years before divorcing two years before becoming disable. How does this affect me when I or my Ex becomes retiring age.

Hi Dr.! I am 65 almost 66. Since a work related injury almost a y ear ago in August, I can only work part time 2 days week. I earn roughly $800.00 a month. Do I add what I get from SS and my employment for the maximum I can earn before I have an overage or do they just count what I earn only and not a total of both for the max.?

Hi. Does the benefits apply if my spouse had tax ID ? Im a survivor spouse with a SSN with two kids but my deceased spouse had a ITN. Thank you in advance.
It depends if they actually paid into Social Security. Give SSA a call and check. But probably not...
Can a surviving spouse claim a survivor benefits of social security if a husband or a wife died before filing for Social Security benefits? Someone that I know passed away at the age of 63.
Yes
Thanks for your response!
Hi Ed . My husband passed at 51 in 2022. He did not work for 10 years. Would I stll qualify for some benefits at my 60yr . Im 52 now and they told me I could have only gotten a one time 200 dollars.

My child got survivor benefits from her dad passing but no one told me about auxiliary survivor child and care benefits she was 14 when he died she is 18 now . can I backdate and apply for the child and care benefits?
It doesn't hurt to try.
Thank you for sharing this information
My husband and I were living apart when he passed away
He was still working, and was 64 when he passed in 2021
We were married 25 years
I know this sounds crazy, but
He married someone else without divorcing me, I have not been able to find any divorce papers
I am 60 and on disability since 2012
Will that affect my application /benefits?
Your marriage would be considered valid so I would definitely apply
If you were married for at least ten years you can draw off of him AND if second wife was married to him at least ten years BOTH of you can draw off of him..
Hi if I only work part time 2 days a week and have been collecting SS for 7 months so far when I turned 65, if I keep working 2 days a week will my SS income keep going up since I pay taxes on it?

My spouse is over 10 years older. Is it true that usually the best strategy (if you bet on living to 80+) is that the older spouse collects SSI at 70 and the
younger spouse collects SSI at the minimum age 62?
Not SSI, but retirement. SSI is the welfare program
How does social security base the benefit amount? My husband died at 48. I just turned 61. I am working a seasonal job and will make less than the earnings limit. A friend told me that i should collect on his benefits as a widow, continue to work and also that I could change to mine at 67 or beyond. I am just confused how they calculate benefits. Is it based on what he paid in? Someone said its based on his benefit at FRA, but he did'nt make it to FRA? I do have a phone appt with Social security soon. It's confusing.

People really need to purchase life insurance.
Not unless they’re responsible for someone-single people should in most cases not waste their money on life insurance.
@@user-bg9em7ch6k this video is about widows and survivors benefits.
I agree. Term life only and it’s really cheap. I bought a $350k policy at 50 as I had a family member that needed help. It has helped me sleep at night. Cost $60 a month. Cheaper than sleeping pills! 😅
We had life insurance policies until our kids were grown and self sufficient, then we dropped it.

I have a question if my husband is filing for disability. Because he has really bad diabetes.
We've been married for 24 years, but never divorced. We also have a disabled son who is 21 years old. He's been disabled since he was 3. I am not able to work because i take care of my son if he gets approved. Am I entitled to any benefits from him because of my disabled son?
I am not 62 I am 48. Would I be entitled to anything now?Or I would have to wait till i'm 62 He is also trying the slick move of trying to get a divorce now. Lol

Hey Dr. Ed!
I was declared disabled at 48 and my husband passed away the same year. I applied to receive his benefits and was granted 70% . I’m now 65. Can I reapply to get his maximum benefit amount now?

I was also granted 70% for a couple months. Then they said that was wrong and I was only supposed to get 40%. They lowered it and made me pay back the extra they sent me.
I was getting survivor benefits and disability (I have smi) from my dad 1996 - 2022 & they cut them off… I called for emergency reinstatement and had the process going but I become homeless & lost access to my phone & they said since they couldn’t get ahold of me I must have gotten better because I hadn’t been in treatment…. But I did go to treatment, I was working on figuring out how to send my records…. Since I was moving around…. How do I fix this???

My husband just passed away and he was 59 and he was getting disability. We was married for 9 and half months. I am 61. What should I be able to file for and how much should I be able to get?
My wife, 9 years older than I, passed away recently, and she was receiving about $300/ month. I should be receiving approximately $3500/month in about 4 years when I retire at 67.
Am I supposed to be receiving my wife's 300/month now until I retire at 67? or something like that? until I retire?
If you're at least sixty years old and you're not working over the annual earnings limit, then you can absolutely file for her survivor benefits.
Hi Ed, What if the person that passed away never worked but they still have minor children??? Ty

My spouse passed away in 2022 at 45 y/o. If I claim survivor benefits at 60 & still work full time. I’m assuming social security will taxed me since my earnest income will be higher. Is this correct?
Social Security will hold back one dollar for every two dollars you go over the annual earnings limit
You can only make 23000 before social security takes $1 for every $2 above 23,000
She can only make $23320.00
Hi , Ed thanks for info on ex spouse benefits. My ex passed before collecting and we both never remarried. He also served in army for 8 years before we married . Can i collect on that?
Hello, not sure about the Veteran's benefits. But if you're at least 60 years old and we're married to him for at least 10 years, then yes.
My husband’s base SS pay is $3,000 at his full retirement age. However, he has worked past that age and his SS check is $4,000 and is still paying in at 79 years of age. My benefit pay is $1,500. If I’m full retirement age(70) what would be my benefit?

My husband passed way 2y ago only survivors benefit I am receiving only 311.00 I don’t know why I don’t know anything about this
If my husband filed for Social Security benefits at the age of 65, will the widow's limit apply to me if I choose to file at age 60?
If you apply at 60 your benefits are reduced because you are filing early. SS is always reduced for filing early.
@@janetmartin9372 thanks a lot am aware of that scenario i was referring to the RIB LIM

I have a question about the retroactive 6 month payment. If I am currently on survivors benefits, and decide to move to my own, am I qualified for the 6 mo retroactive payment? and if so, will SS deduct my survivors benefits that were paid during the "retroactive" time from my 6mo payment?
