Art of Fighting 1 took place in 1979 Art of Fighting 2 (this game) takes place 1 year later in 1980 Art of Fighting 3 takes place in the year 1981. Ryo Sakazaki, born in 1957, was 20 in Art of Fighting and 21 in this game: Art of Fighting 2 Geese Howard, born in 1953, was 27 in Art of Fighting 2. In 1989, his wife, Maire, gave birth to Rock Howard Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, which came out in 1991, took place in the year 1992, 10 years after the death of Jeff Bogard by the hands of Geese Howard, the true boss of this game, while Jeff's sons, Terry and Andy, were 11 and 10 years old. Terry Bogard was was born 1971, making him 21 in Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, and his brother Andy 20. Joe Higashi was also 20. Mai, who'd show up in Fatal Fury 2, was 19. In Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, Terry defeated Geese at the top of Geese Tower, knocking him off of it. Geese was in the hospital for 3 days, presumed dead, but actually lived and escaped into hiding during the events of Fatal Fury 2, until showing back up in Fatal Fury 3, only to be defeated again by Terry but this time escaping during as fire. He would show up again as the main boss in Real Bout Fatal Fury. In Fatal Fury Special; Ryo is a secret boss character, and thus he was 35 yrs old, just like how Terry Bogard was 35 years old in the last Fatal Fury game: Garou: Mark of the Wolves, which took place in the year 2006 (despite the game coming out in 1999), 11 years after the death of Geese Howard in Real Bout Fatal Fury, which took place in the year 19945. Terry, now being the adoptive father of Geese's son Rock Howard, who was 6 yrs old in 1995 but in 2006; now 17 yrs old. At this point in time, Ryo would have been 49 years old during the events of Garou: Mark of the Wolves; he wasn't shown in that game, but his student, Marco Rodriguez, was playable in the game. Art of Fighting often gets knocked a lot for 'being a Street Fighter clone' when this really wasn't the case. The creator of the original 1987 Street Fighter game, Nishimura, left Capcom to join SNK and created Street Smart, Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, Art of Fighting, and King of Fighters 94'. The First Fatal Fury game was in development the same time Street Fighter II was and it was released only a few months after it so the notion of that game being a clone was also false. Art of Fighting, in 1992, actually introduced some new mechanics that other fighting game genre such as camera zooming, dashes, cancels, super moves and wall jumps. Street Smart introduced juggling, and Fatal Fury introduced the concept of guest characters and co-op dynamic battles, and KoF introduced the concept of crossovers
Mark Grossi excuse me but what was crossing in the world warrior? Because I thought final fight characters came in the alpha games. What 98 snk game are you mentioning because there are a few, FF real bout 2 KOF 98.
Mark Grossi you say sf having the same fundamentals for 30 years as if it is a good thing, all the other innovations capcom added to street fighter has made the series better so why not take the amazing movement options of kof as well. Many capcom fans enjoyed using snk grooves in cvs2 so I think they would be okay with it. Camera moving is a big part of smash, so it has its uses but lane switching was pointless.
People call Ryo a "ryu ripoff" not true. In reality, he's a character based off anime and fg fighters. He's Goku (orange gi, blonde hair, haohshokoken is kamehameha), kenshiro (zanretsu ken = hyakurestsuken) and ryu (fireball, dragonpunch).
well technically so was Ryu and Ken in Street Fighter, which was created by Nishimura, who created the first Street Fighter game. So, it is said that Ryo was made 'as an homage' to Ryu and Ken. Then Capcom made a parody character of Ryo and Robert fused together to become Dan in Street Fighter Alpha series. Then there was Data East's Fighters History which actually got sued by Capcom claiming they truly ripped off Street Fighter; though Capcom lost in court.
