What I think a lot of people miss in the end sequence is that it is not a depiction of “what could have been”. We can see the discrepancies from the reality, the nice manager and there being tons of people watching Mia’s performance to name a few. It is a dream sequence, something that could only happen in a movie, but not in real life. And even there, Seb has to sacrifice his dream of owning a club for Mia’s dream. The movie’s name La-La-Land is not only a nickname for Los Angeles, but also (as defined my Merriam Webster) a “a euphoric, dreamlike mental state detached from the harsher realities of life”. It’s a beautiful play on words. The sequence is their La-La-Land, beautiful, but unobtainable.
I always love recommending this movie, its such a beautiful classic. The score is beautiful and the acting so superb. Might be a gut punch at first but after more viewings its such a helpful healing process
Love watching your reaction! You are adorable! Good luck with your own dreams. I think you should look at the dream sequence at the end from HIS POV, not hers, and it will make more sense. In the sequence, all the differences are things that HE wishes he had done ... not dissing her in the restaurant, turning down Keith's offer, going to her play, and following her to Paris. He was playing his heart to her at the end. I think the message is that while it's important to follow your dreams (Mia is very happy with her family and career), sometimes your dreams change (Seb got his club but realized too late that his dream had changed. She was his dream. He has regrets, but he's still happy for her.) Sometimes it's hard to see the path you should follow until it's too late. Hindsight as they say. Love, love, love this movie!!
24:42. Does it become anti-gravity in the observatory. I expect not, but are you watching this literally or emotionally? This scene capture the feelings of butterflies, those first sensations of attractions, perhaps even the emotion of love and yes. Twirling, losing gravity-so that’s my take. LaLaLand has done the best job of capturing on film-falling in loving.
I saw this movie in the theater four times. and each time it shook me and made me think about my life. I've been married (happily) for 20 years, but I always wonder what would have happened if I stayed with my first love...
Just saw your end-I got the impression live in Los Angeles. Why is it called LaLaLand?!? Because that is LA’s nickname. LaLaLand-a bit of a poke at the fantasy and superficiality that is the magnet of beautiful dreamers of the world. You probably don’t live there if you don’t know the nickname-City of Star is about the only nickname as big.
WAKE UP YOU ARE BEING COMPLETELY UNFAIR TO HIM. HE HAS GIVEN UP HIS DREAM SO SHE HAS A CHANCE AT HERS. Okay, she is starting on her own? She is doing that because he gave up his dream for her and she knew he was giving up his dream. Be fare. HE NOT ONCE TOLD HER TO GIVE UP HER DREAM. WANTS HIM TO QUIT AND DO WHAT? Another dream sequence at his club. It is called a reprise, do you know anything about msicals?
I cried too lol its was a really good movie 😭 i so happy you watched it! i cant wait to see what you watch next
Rlly?! it's hard not to cry!
