I've been told that Wolfburn Distillery is the northern most. Funny how multiple sources could be wrong but fair enough, I made a mistake.
I have a odd question. I have a horrible sense of smell. What Irish, Scotch, Bourbon would you recommend to someone like me?
Depends what you're hoping to do. If your ability to smell is bad maybe do a peated whisky. Will be hard to miss the smell of Ardbeg 10 :)

It's the Northernmost mainland distillery. Some sources tend to forget to add in that distinction.
One of my favorites but I'd love to see it at a higher ABV, at least 46%. Just imagine this at cask strength!
Oh man. I don't think that will be happening unless you can find an independent bottling. My Total Wine just got the latest Old Pulteney 12 years in and they are 80 Proof/40% ABV.
I think it needs atleast 100 proof.
@@gibec8252 Well I’ve had a few 100 proof since I wrote that and I’m in complete agreement. They’re much smoother than I expected.
This was my first scotch purchase. Still a staple in my bar.
Wise words Bill. I've only had a sample of this and, while it didn't inspire me in the way it has others, I reckon sipping my way through a bottle over a period of time could change that. Cheers.

This whiskey is what started my love of single malts. In my opinion, this scotch has one of the best noses out there. I agree, definitely give it a try!

Update: it took a while, but I finally found some Old Pulteney 12 at one of the four good stores in my area. It’s really good. I’ve never really been able to nose/taste the “brine/sea air” in many expressions that others say they get, but it was very distinct in the Old Pulteney. Very pleasant nose and note. OP12 will likely join my “keep stocked” list, so thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Bill, agree this OP12 is a great bottle at about $42 and 43% in an oval tube. Now seeing some of the new bottles at 40% in a box. So grabbing some of last bottles at 43%. Cheers!!
I really ought to retry this whiskey wasn't that keen on it when I had it down the pub about a year ago but got a bottle of the 15 just off the strength of the nose and it's so good, just a shame I couldn't justify buying the talisker 57° north too
If you like this, you'll probably love Glen Scotia Double Cask. Adds a kiss of smoke and sherry, and at 46% it's got that extra depth. OP12 was my go-to easy sipper until they reduced the ABV and I found the Glen Scotia. Was only $43 to boot.
I’m drinking it now, and i can say it move me like i was close to sea (not tropical) I feel like I want to hate it in the beginning, but at the end is smooth.
For me is a solid 7.5.

Fun Thing about the 43/40% Thing. Only in the US there was the 43 % Version. In Europe you can only get the 40 % one. They didn't change it for the Local Market.

I always get dates as a Fruit on OP 12. Love it!
It's a pretty good scotch, about $40 in my area which isn't too bad. Definitely the best of the other entry level single malts like the Glens or Speyburn. Unfortunately the new bottling is 40% instead of 43% for the same price so I probably won't be buying it again unless the abv goes back up. Glad I got some right before the change. Couldn't do that with Speyburn. :(

You say it’s similar to oban and talisker. Does that mean there’s a little peat and smoke in op?
Significantly less so on the smoke, but the light and fruity notes for sure, as well as the saltiness

Im sure a lot of people will not agree with me here, but old pulteney 12 was a bit too light for me. It was a bit watery and not anything too special. Good for the money though. Definitely recommend for beginners or people whos wants a good value whiskey. Refreshing i will agree with because its sooooo easy to drink, almost like beer easy.

It's probably also 40% or 80 proof. If so, it's the newer version. Hope it's good.

Gerz, you can chill that way or even use "stones" but some like that little bit of water you get from using ice. And maybe the sound of clinking ice in a glass. But go with whatever you like.
I suggest you try all ways. Chilling in the fridge tends to give whiskey a weird viscous texture to me... it's worth trying but may not be for everyone
