Fun fact, the woman holding the bowl over Loki when he’s tied to the rock is Sigyn, the goddess of fidelity, who in the original mythology was Loki’s wife.
Fun fact in Norse Mythology Heimdall is fated to slay Loki at Ragnarok, so Loki definitely shouldn't be trusting Heimdall to watch the bridge just because lol
It's good seeing all 4 of you on the couch, as opposed to 3. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I think it's better when all 4 of you are together

Funny, I ended up buying this comic on Kindle a couple of weeks ago, watched the first episode of Loki earlier today, reread Loki afterwards, then got a notification about a new Back Issues for Loki! Pretty freaky. Or Froki, if you will.
I was suprised how related these books were to it, The first episode of Loki is basically the lesson Loki learns in this book, but from a completely different perspective. But there's no way they could have known that when they recorded and edited this video
*Thor pulls a Kool Aid Man through the palace* *Loki:* "WAIT, THOR! I'm having an existential crisis, here! I don't know where else to go! What to do! Help me, stepbrother! I'm stuck!" *Thor:* "..." *Loki:* "..." *Thor:* _starts lifting Mjolnir_ *Loki:* "NO, WAIT-"
This was one of the first Thor comics I read back then and it might have been my introduction to Loki. Great story! Love the character design in this book!
Loki cutting Sif's hair off is actually a callback to Norse myth where he does the same thing. That's a really cool detail I did not think would be incorporated into this book! Neat!
I think this was also true in comics until Gillen retconned it. Though with Ragnarok cycles and all that, it should be safe to say that Hela has been Loki’s actual daughter at one point at least as, in Roy Thomas’ run, it was explained that Norse Gods experience changes after each Ragnarok. Our world’s mythology is actually canon to the Marvel Universe, complete with Thor’s red hair but after Ragnarok, they became the way we know them as in the comics. Also, considering another Ragnarok happened (in 2006 or so written by Michael Avon Oeming, supposed to be the final one but you never know), it’s possible that Hela was still Loki’s daughter until after that Final Ragnarok.
I love this story!!!! Thank you guys for covering this 😁 if they ever adapted this into a film outside the MCU or in the multiverse I would love to see Brad Dourif (Gríma Wormtongue Lord of the rings) play as Loki.
"its grosski" i loved it. i really dig this art. same for the conan books, which i subbed to on comixology thanks to tiffany's recommend. two years ago or so that is. i stopped conan after aaron left, not that i won't continue i just wanted to finish that run oh you know what i mean and how it is. i'll finish them later. actually i'm debating getting marvel unlimited or comixology unlimited. i already have dc infinite and i use it a lot. and i never read dc before, grew up a marvel guy. and i'm not all about the newest continuity and such so it doesn't bother me being six months behind. i don't know. gotta run later gators
Great episode guys! You’re one of the channels (comics explained) that got me back into reading comics and I made a channel chronicling my venture back into comics after 22 yrs. Thank you guys for all you do!
Hopefully, we see more Back Issues from Thor. Maybe another JMS story, or stories from other great Thor runs like Stan Lee/Jack Kirby's run and Walt Simonson's run
this is the first time you guys have covered a story that I have read before. I loved this story, I always thought of it as Loki Shakespeare edition because all the battles are off screen and it's about the interpersonal turmoil for sovereigns.
Floki isn't Loki, he's just the guy who discovered Iceland, Vikings is very loosely based on history, so they play very fast and loose with historical figures
I get that it is part of his character, but if there are infinite universes with infinite possibilities, there should also be an infinite number of good Lokis. So Karnilla probably tricked him.
I remember seeing the first episode of the motion comic years ago back in high school. I don't remember much about it since it was so long ago, but I've been meaning to finish it.
I watched this right after the first episode of loki and I feel like they just adapted this into the first episode. Just swap out some names and locations. Basically just showing how he always fails and making him have an epiphany or whatever.
Before watching I grabbed the trade on comixology and I had no idea what to expect. The art is incredible and I enjoyed it but that ending. Wow... Anyways time to watch ☺️ 36:17 yeah that threw me off guard and definitely isn't the original art
It’s kind of funny how this happened with Future Loki and he was good but everyone just nagged him until he stabbed Thor in I think Ewing’s Loki agent of Asgard series
Also, with this channel now having to be Back Issues only could we possibly get a twice a week schedule with say Saturdays being dedicated to things like Saga possibly and other fun things like Ambush Bug or Amethyst that may not have the views that Wednesday BI episodes have? I think it would answer a lot of problems that people have been asking for over the years and allow us to have all the stories we have wanted.
Its funny Mephisto actually had to share his Hell with Hela at one point when Asgard was in Braxton, Oklahoma or at least rent a portion off during the Siege storyline.
Although in mythology her new hair is golden, she is literally famous for her golden hair. They made her hair black in the comics then sort of retconned in a slightly different version of the myth to explain the mistake.
I'm sure the art I awesome, but it kind of hurts listening to what Marvel does with the Norse mythology when you're even a little bit familiar with it.
Buy Thor and Loki: Blood Brothers! amzn.to/3vPEx0r
Glad to see the full cast thanks for another full video
Nah😎
Jk love yall
How is this comment newer than the video?
Nvm I think y’all probably had it on private and then unprivated it lol
Fun fact, the woman holding the bowl over Loki when he’s tied to the rock is Sigyn, the goddess of fidelity, who in the original mythology was Loki’s wife.
Fun fact in Norse Mythology Heimdall is fated to slay Loki at Ragnarok, so Loki definitely shouldn't be trusting Heimdall to watch the bridge just because lol
Right Heimdall kills him and tells him about the surviving gods that hid in the world tree etc
The hair-cutting thing with Sif is directly from Norse myth originally, which explains why it's really weird upon first reading
Absolutely beautiful book. Ribic was born to illustrate Thor and his world. And it shows in Godbutcher.
Nah, he was born to illustrate Marvel. Everything he does is amazing, F4, Avengers, Thor, Namor, and Secret War are all amazing.
"You watch vikings?" That had me dead
It's good seeing all 4 of you on the couch, as opposed to 3. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I think it's better when all 4 of you are together
Loki: Why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends?
Thor: It's hammer time!
How is this from 6 days ago

Or Froki, if you will.
Been waiting for BackIssues all morning to make work better it’s been boring here and yay a Loki story!! 😂
I literally just text my girlfriend "where is back issues, they're late today" 😂😂
Let's talk about the first episode of Loki though, definitely a banger
I was suprised how related these books were to it, The first episode of Loki is basically the lesson Loki learns in this book, but from a completely different perspective. But there's no way they could have known that when they recorded and edited this video
Loki solo runs are seriously some of the best books. I'm reading Agent of Asgard again right now 🎉
Still my favorite loki book it's a shame they throw that away
Agent of Asgard is top tier
*Thor pulls a Kool Aid Man through the palace*
*Loki:* "WAIT, THOR! I'm having an existential crisis, here! I don't know where else to go! What to do! Help me, stepbrother! I'm stuck!"
*Thor:* "..."
*Loki:* "..."
*Thor:* _starts lifting Mjolnir_
*Loki:* "NO, WAIT-"
*Curb Your Enthusiasm Theme*
It's just called Two Brothers.
Rodi incorporated tons of the real myth, including the hair thing, the dwarves made th new "ebony" hair when they made the mjolnir.
This was one of the first Thor comics I read back then and it might have been my introduction to Loki. Great story! Love the character design in this book!
The artwork in this loki story looks so beautiful :)
Episodes with all 4 of you guys are just GOLD 👌👌
I love books that get into the essence of a villain and their motives.
Loki cutting Sif's hair off is actually a callback to Norse myth where he does the same thing. That's a really cool detail I did not think would be incorporated into this book! Neat!
Fun fact: Mythology Hela is Loki's daughter.
👀
Marvel comics
Yeah Marvel changed some stuff, Loki is Odin's blood brother not adopted son although he and Thor pal around a lot.
Loki also gave birth to the midgard serpent, and a horse, after turning into a female horse to distract an actual male horse.
I remember watching the Motion Comic of this, and it was superbly done.
Yeah, I watched the motion comic for this and Whedon’s X-Men. Good stuff.
Daia: I'm the best at what I do and what I do is very nice
Everyone nerding about star trek and getting distracted from the main comic within 3 minutes in, I love back issues to death :)
YESSS!! I was hoping you guys would cover this
Sal: You watched Vikings?
Ben: Yes... I watched Vikings.
And Loki’s most famous alternate name “BOY” oh wait… I meant Atreus
I love this story!!!! Thank you guys for covering this 😁 if they ever adapted this into a film outside the MCU or in the multiverse I would love to see Brad Dourif (Gríma Wormtongue Lord of the rings) play as Loki.
Back in the day I had this book, and I LOVED IT! :) Seeing the dynamic between Thor and Loki, when Loki won was awesome.
Wow, the art in this is baller
3:00 "who isn't real and we're not talking about anymore." is a line that could have helped me a number of times.
Thanks for doing this story. It’s one of my favorite Thor stories.
JUSTICE FOR THLOKI!!!
They totally referenced the haircut thing on the show! How funny it is to go back and watch these episodes after the fact.
Now you guys gotta do Volume 3 of Batman Earth One, it released yesterday!!!
Please, never shy away from the TNG tangents, they're always appreciated
Wednesdays are always better with back issues
Just a heads up, Marvel is doing a bit of a Loki sale this week, so you can grab this book for 2 bucks digitally as well
Great episode guys!
I’m hoping we see the god butcher arc closer to the film though I’d like it if it came sooner
My Wednesday treat has arrived! thanks again for the great content
this is the first time you guys have covered a story that I have read before. I loved this story, I always thought of it as Loki Shakespeare edition because all the battles are off screen and it's about the interpersonal turmoil for sovereigns.
I forgot I'd read this until this video, great as always!
Saw the episode first before this, Loki seriously is the underdog in a villains chair. If that even makes sense 🤣
"There's a lot going on in this episode, so far" 😂😂😂
"ITS A MAGIC SNAKE"
It's LOKI TIME !!!
Yay back issues!!!!
Loki:Agent of Asgard was amazing... It's one of my favorite comics ever...
I appreciate that classic tragedy at the end lessons are learned and it's too late or it just doesn't matter
Floki isn't Loki, he's just the guy who discovered Iceland, Vikings is very loosely based on history, so they play very fast and loose with historical figures
"there is a lot going on in this episode"
whole heartedly can't agree more, lol!
I remember seeing a motion comic of this. It think it was good.
I remember finding out about this book because the motion comic of it never sold at my local Target
So funny that the day I’m watching this it’s storming outside
I get that it is part of his character, but if there are infinite universes with infinite possibilities, there should also be an infinite number of good Lokis. So Karnilla probably tricked him.
What do you expect... She didn't get her Balder. 😂
Read this one a little while ago when Sal recommended it on Instagram. Loved it. Outside of MCU, I never cared for comics’ Loki until this story.
I remember seeing the first episode of the motion comic years ago back in high school. I don't remember much about it since it was so long ago, but I've been meaning to finish it.
Another great episode.
Thor just Samsoned his way out of this
I wanna know if I'm not the only one watching this video who has also seen the Marvel Knights fully-voiced "motion comic" version of this.
So when they are eventually desperate enough to partner, will we get batman who laughs new partner loki who wins?
Throg and Froki, we need this.
That look at "tit for tat" though lol
This sounds like the kind of book that's why I read comics. Definitely going to check it out.
That art.
I guess it was too much to ask for the Journey Into Mystery Kid Loki story sadge
Give em the ol Loki doke
I watched this right after the first episode of loki and I feel like they just adapted this into the first episode. Just swap out some names and locations. Basically just showing how he always fails and making him have an epiphany or whatever.
You know the whole idea of Disney+ just to get Loki a show isn't THAT far fetched...
When Loki runs away from Bolder I picture him running away like Barry from the Goldbergs
Can you look at Donny Cates' first Thor arc, The Devourer King?
This book seems amazing.
Omg I never got that Star Trek thing until now. B4 was named so, because he came before. lolol what a troll name that went over my head at warp speed.
Loki- Yeild, Asgard! I am undisputed & fearless All-Father.
Hela- Daddy!!
Before watching I grabbed the trade on comixology and I had no idea what to expect. The art is incredible and I enjoyed it but that ending. Wow... Anyways time to watch ☺️
36:17 yeah that threw me off guard and definitely isn't the original art
Hey sal! Would you guys ever cover the Dan Slott: Spiderman/human torch miniseries that came out in 2009? I just read it and it’s pretty great!
The motion comic for this was really good. This story has no action to begin with. Just great dialog and it's great to listen to.
This book came out when I was born hahaha
Would love to see them take a crack at Batman Year 100 someday
It’s kind of funny how this happened with Future Loki and he was good but everyone just nagged him until he stabbed Thor in I think Ewing’s Loki agent of Asgard series
Good thing Loki is 4 letters or Ben really be struggling
(Referring to the thumbnail lol)
I mean, isn't Hela Loki's daughter? So I guess it makes sense that he'd see her as his conscience (for good or bad)
Today on Back Issues, "Th" sounds are hard.
Don't forget, Loki slept with a horse on Norse mythology 🐴
awww...I was so gonna buy this book till they got to the end. poor loki.
and loki would be a master assassin, to the maxum.
You watch'd Vikings?
I'm rollin
Its funny Mephisto actually had to share his Hell with Hela at one point when Asgard was in Braxton, Oklahoma or at least rent a portion off during the Siege storyline.
Although in mythology her new hair is golden, she is literally famous for her golden hair. They made her hair black in the comics then sort of retconned in a slightly different version of the myth to explain the mistake.
I remember this was on Netflix
Leaving a comment to up the "engagement"
I made it haha I made it yeah!!!
That ending actually makes me sad lol
The show kind of adapts this Loki in the form of the eldest Loki who has seen all of the Lokis and comes to the conclusion that it is all pointless.
I too watched Vikings. I stopped when they invaded Paris.
I'm sure the art I awesome, but it kind of hurts listening to what Marvel does with the Norse mythology when you're even a little bit familiar with it.
Why end it so abrupt? Why only 4 issues? What’s with everyone ganging up on Loki
Loki would mske a great knitter and weaver...btw.
