Holy shit I just did this on my 7950x3D and my core 0 can do -50 and almost all of my cores can do -35-40 except like 2 of them! That tip with clock stretching allowed me to push 12-14 of my cores an extra 10-20 notches.

I'm seeing with lite load- pbo +200 - curve optimizer - 15 all cores, 100 blck netted a low of 5000.03 to a high of 5150.3. and 4.750 all core 100% load with 67 degree C. 360mm custom loop. Silicon lottery here. Load line set to auto....
I got 23,500 Cinebench 23, max temp 74c with an arctic freezer 2 360mm on 195 ppt, 160 tdc, 180 edc with LLC on Auto (msi board) and Auto OC/Scalar on Auto. Best 4 cores on 25, the rest on 30. I dont test using prime anymore, run cinebench for half an hour and alternate between versions. I know 195w is semi-coolable and getting the 4950 boost consistent is very nice. Also no crashes really unless I start messing around with the AutoOC/LCC functions. I feel like lower values (100-) tend to be more stable but for me it introduces unstable performance. But I've heard that's because my Curve Optimizer is set too high for usage with AutoOC.
5900x is a sleeping beast u need to wake up with the right PBO Curve (asus strix 570x - negative 30 all) .I got 5,33ghz on one core and usually around 5,125 ghz on all cores with 140w max power consumption with 82 max temp

RESUME: Doing all the tests and tuning PBO to its limit will improve very little performance in games when using a Ryzen 5900x (which is not a great gaming cpu comparing to ryzen 5800x3d). Probaly even a Ryzen 5600 or 5600x well tuned would have a much better cost benefit in gaming performance, requiring much simplier cooling. But, for those who want to optimize the Ryzen 5900x, I think that the PBO final tuning and time required is not valuable in performance. Just do the basic PBO ans curve optmizer and you will get clocks close to its maximum tuning.

Do you have an opinion in regards to Gigabytes implementation of Active OC tuner vs Asus Dynamic OC Switcher? Also any info on if MSIs X570S mobos employ something similar?
Wow great catch. Looks like the percentages are correct, but the data labels are indeed the ones from PBO Tuned. On AOCT vs DOS: I haven't looked into a technical comparison of both features, so I cannot comment on the quality of implementation. Practically, both solutions are pretty much the same way of setting up and produce the same kind of results. On MSI X570S: not sure. I have the X570S Carbon EK X on the test bench now and there's no feature like AOCT/DOS.

Hello first off thank you for taking the time to put this together as it led to me purchasing both the x570S as well as the 5900x, and just so happened to put together a custom EK loop and I couldn’t be happier. However I am a novice in overclocking(previously overclocked an fx6300 lol) and fail to understand the necessity of the m.2 NVME drive when speaking about the Supercharge method around 39:22 and was hoping you could clarify if it would be possible to still use this method /without/ the NVME drive, or would I have to compromise by using a different method instead? Or am misunderstanding entirely? Thank you again for your time!!
I believe he means to say that increasing BLCK could affect SATA drives. The M.2 top slot is NVME and it gets it's lanes directly from the CPU. It's also the most used slot in any system because that's where everyone's primary hard drive gets installed.
i just got this exact mobo and cpu...i only meant to upgrade my current gpu from a 2080 to a 3090 but then i thought while I'm at it i may as well take advantage of all the sales right now and upgrade my cpu from the 3700x to the 5900x... so i bought a cheap b550 board i was gonna put all my old parts on...but upgrading my current x570 aorus pro wifi meant fiddlin with the bios update and that's sketchy af to me so i decided to leave the current board alone and went and got the x570s aorus master... and to cool it got an arctic 280mm aio lol...i had no plans of totally rebuilding the entire system but here we are with a whole new rig... still sitting on the shelf cause I'm too lazy to get into it lol. i made the right choice with the x570 pro wifi...i hope this x570x master was a good choice as well!

Hi, I'd like to ask: How do you get over 200W of power consumption from your CPU? I can't get more than 185w with my 5900x, I set ppt edc tdc 250/20/200 as you said. My motherboard is a crosshair viii formula, but my cpu doesn't reach more than 85 degrees C.
Power consumption will be primarily driven by two factors: workload and voltage. If you want to see the high per consumption, then I'd suggest to use the same Prime 95 Small FFTs with AVX workload I use for stability testing. With just PBO enabled, I already reach 203W and 90C. Setting PPT/EDC/TDC will allow for higher than default power & current, but if you're not hitting the limit already these settings won't do much for you. Voltage is a bit more tricky to increase using Precision Boost Overdrive, but you can try increasing Scalar to see if the algorithm pursues higher voltages. If all that doesn't work, you can try with a manual voltage offset.

You can increase it by +50 and see if it has any effect on your maximum frequency. Keep a close eye on the VRM temperature as you increase PPT, EDC, and TDC as these parameters meant to prevent any kind of VRM overheating under heavy load.

Dude get today my 5900x. Set it on my Asus b550m-a like yours. LLC on CPU on Medium works better for me. Cpu Z score Single 676. Multi 9727. Now i am on Curve - 22 and VCore Offset - 0.06250V. Cpu Z Single 692 and Multi 10.086. And temps are so low.
Isn't the CO values per core is specific to the CPU, I don't understand when you say set core 4 offset to 20? What if my core 4 won't be stable if I said it to 20?
31:14 you pronounce other clocks than written on screen :) (and that's not the only time) Also, why would you pick LLC Turbo instead of, say, Normal? It might be interesting for you to know (maybe you already do) that PBO Scalar actually scales FIT Limit. To monitor current FIT value and whether it reaches the limit (and hence frequency gets throttled by this limiter) one has to use some Zen3 Power Table Monitor software like github.com/hattedsquirrel/ryzen_monitor for Linux or for Windows CPU/AMD Monitor/AMD Monitor from this tool www.overclock.net/threads/official-amd-ryzen-ddr4-24-7-memory-stability-thread.1628751/post-28825621 . E.g. for 5600x Scalar 5x is already enough for any y-cruncher test, as well as Prime95. That is, no reason to set it to 10x. This probably can allow for lower CO values (if one is concerned with CoreCycler-stability) and will lower power consumption
I didn't know about this particular tool, but I use another one to check the FIT. I can't put that in videos though, so thanks for sharing. I will definitely check it out and try to use it for future videos! As for the LLC: for this system I didn't search for the optimal LLC but just picked one in the middle :). The reason for fixing the LLC is because from prior experience (SB#24 5700G) I noticed that your best Curve Optimizer settings will change depending on the LLC you use. And as for the difference between what I say and the numbers; yea I need to find a better way to avoid this. I put together the visuals after recording as I'm editing. Sometimes when editing something doesn't quite make sense, I go back to check on the system ... and sometimes the numbers change.
Hi, very very informative and exhasutive video! I'm going to make a build with Ryzen 5950 and Aorus Master x570. I will use it mainly for racing and flight simulation. What would you suggest as a strategy in my case? I sense that all in all supercharge PBO is the best/recommended at the end? I want to be in a "safe" ground though...
My general recommendation for AMD platforms is as follows: 1) Enable PBO + XMP is always suggested (OCS#1) 2) PBO Tuning + XMP if you're okay with a little bit of tuning (OCS#4) 3) If you have a board with AOCT, the combine a manual OC with PBO tuned (OCS#3) Supercharged PBO will give the higher performance but it's also the most expert approach I've outlined in the video. Unless you're ready to put a lot of effort and time in the overclock, I wouldn't suggest this strategy.
I am debating to get the 5900x and buying a used 1.0 X570S Aorus Master ($280). I am wondering if thats the best Motherboard and is 1.0 still good? I have heard that some people have had issues...have you had any and what version do you have?
There is only v1.0 of the 570S . There is 3 versions of the Non S X570 Master. 1.0,1.1,1.2. I have v1.0 of the 570S master and v1.0 570 Master no real issues with either. Single core score is a touch lower on the 570S with the exact same cpu/temps/power limits. Could be the factory tuning of lineload calibration have not played with it yet.

Personally with the GIGABYTE x570s & 5900x with 3600MHzDDR4, I can follow stable to step 3,and partially to 4. I was wondering how did you distillate the per CCD ratio settings? The same for the curve optimiser settings. Is it al trial and error and just gradually increase values?
Yup, basically trial and error. I use an application called CoreCycler to get a initial idea of the stability for each core. If the core passes I increase the negative curve (or increase the ratio if manual OC). If the core fails, I do the opposite. Rinse and repeat until all cores are finetuned. CoreCycler doesn't always give the final judgment, so I also run through my benchmark suite to check if there's any instability I didn't catch before.
Hey does the active OC tuner really come on the gigabyte Aorus Pro AX motherboards? I've seen gigabyte say that on their website, but I noticed you didnt use it In your video using the b550 pro ax video. They also say the aero G board has it as well....just don't wanna shell out that much $ on a aorus master! ;)
After using this for almost 2 years [PBO TUNED] , it's very much stable but for now am experiencing random restarts, which caused by a ram whenever i set it back to default it works randomly but i lose the extra performance.., any advice ? [Most people say to increase Dram voltage by 0.05 not sure about that]
might depend on your motherboard. I had an x570 Taichi and had fair results, bought a MSI X570s MEG ACE MAX and now most cores are -30... overall, it's not worth the more expensive motherboard, but, I like to tweak.
This does not work for me at all. Anytime I try to change the BCLK frequency, it locks my CPU at that frequency. It won't go above 3.8Ghz. help? I'm on an ASUS STRIX B550-F Motherboard

I'm just wondering why you get so high temps. i activate XMP, put negative 30 in curve optimizer and call it a day. 11% all core improvement (4.3 - 4.4 GHz) and single core 5.05 GHz. Temperature at around 65 C with a noctua NH-D15s
Hey @skatterbencher bro I have a 5900x and aorus master x570, I enabled pbo and I havent had much time to test, but any reason why I would see 2 blue screens when would shut down my pc, I would get a whea uncorrectable error. Before you video, I saw another and tried to manually optimize pbo curve, i had it running stable, but had unresponsiveness on the 2nd monitor for a couple of.seconds. I remember in your video you mentioned bare pbo enabled gives best pbo performance then you also super charged oc tuner, I'm not to interested in that. But any idea why i.would experience blusreen when I shutdown my pc. And then it will restart. It doesnt happen all the time it's happened twice.
Strategies #1 to #4 should work no issue; #5 is a bit more CPU specific. Though your mileage will always vary depending on the CPU, cooling, and motherboard used.
@@SkatterBencher You went through all this trouble for this guide so I am gonna test directly on mine and I will post the results in your channel. Cooling is Heatkiller IV on a Mora420 with dual D5 which @ 💯 give a 380lt/hr. Gpu is on air so cpu gets all cooling. No deliding or LM though.
question. my settings in bios does not staying as saved... when i do 'save and exit', computer reboots and all settings go back to default... do you know why?
Hard to say without access to the system. Are the settings stable? Most motherboards have an automatic safety feature where they will reset the BIOS settings to default if the system failed to boot.
Hi - thx for info. Tried this today with my 5900x, same X570S mobo, and on Strategy 2B using your figures (per CCX 46.50 and 45.25, XMP, CPU Vcore @ 1.35V), I cannot keep system stable - P95 keeps crashing on small, no AVX. I think it is from CPU temps which are mid-90s and creeping up during test, this was with a Ninja air cooler which is about as big an air cooler as one can get. So...is this type of OC only possible with water loop cooling? FYI when I go back to previous Auto settings for CCX and voltage, and enable PBO, I am stable running same P95 test (with CPU temps mid-70s) Also FYI in latest bios (F3) for this Gigabyte X570S Master, if you enable AOCT on the Tweaker tab there is no option for CPU Current Limit or CPU Temperature Limit underneath the AOCT toggle as shown in your video...not sure if it is hiding somewhere in a submenu.

Unless you're really interested in maxing out the system, I'd stock at OC Strategy #4 (PBO Tuned). The method for #4 should work fine with any cooler, including a 360 AIO, since the voltage and frequency is still governed by the Precision Boost algorithm. For Dynamic OC Switching (ASUS-equivalent of AOCT) I would definitely suggest to find the threshold for your particular system as it will depend on your particular CPU and cooling solution.
@@SkatterBencher After checking back on this again, I was confused about one thing-- does PBO Tuned have better overall performance than the previous methods by itself, or is it meant to be used in conjunction with AOCT?
I manually test the maximum frequency of each CCD. I get this question a lot, so maybe for my next Ryzen video I should include at least a little explanation about it :)
@@SkatterBencher do you test CCD0 first until you reach the maximum stable and then the CCD1 or just up them both until one fails and up the other one then?
Generally my process is to test both at the same time. I choose a starting voltage and CCD ratio, then go in OS and run Prime95 small FFTs non-AVX for about 5 minutes or so. This will tell me two things: (1) If any of the cores of the either CCD is unstable, usually Prime95 will drop a thread rather than fully crash. If no threads are dropped after 5 minutes, it's good enough to try higher ratio. (2) If the temperature hits 100C or higher then I know I'm using too much voltage and need to reduce it. After a couple of iterations usually I'll find 1 CCD that's a little worse. So I stop pushing that one and just increase the other. After I find the maximum for both CCDs I do the same Prime95 test but for 30min (which is my standard for stability testing). It happens quite often than I have to back down further on both CCDs doing the full 30min run because the temperature still increases.
It's not about mobo vendors not allowing better CPU performance out-of-the-box by enabling PBO at "optimized" default settings It's entirely about the vendors' intentional obfuscation of the behavior of options set to "Auto" on their products so they can continue to "cheat" (I don't care if they do or do not "cheat", I care if they're transparent in describing how their products do what they do so I can make informed purchase/use decisions) while conducting marketing activities against their competitors all while hiding behind the idea that anything they don't want to discuss is covered by an AMD/Intel NDA... That's garbage I'd be happy to have vendors give me great performance by enabling what they see works well before it shows up at my door to be installed... Just actually hire a tech writer to draft the BIOS help strings/manuals Or tell the dude writing server products manuals (hmmmmm... How convenient that I only have to look at a somewhat equivalent server product manual to answer most of the questions my desktop product's documentation either omits entirely or outright lies about) to spend a few days with the desktop product crew
Yes and no. Yes, because the overclocking process for 5900X and 5950X are pretty much the same apart from 5950X having more cores and thus runs slightly hotter under all-core load. No, because PBO Supercharged is a finetuning approach to Ryzen overclocking which will be different for each system. If you want to try, I'd suggest not to straight up copy the settings but gradually try it out on your system.
No, dynamic oc switcher is only available on the GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Xtreme 2.0, GIGABYTE X570S AORUS Master, GIGABYTE X570S AORUS Pro AX, and GIGABYTE X570S AERO G.
Any thoughts or suggestions as to how high I might be able to go with my motherboard? I have an MPG X570 Gaming Plus. I know its more of a budget one and I honestly feel its holding me back. If anyone knows how far I could get it pushed up to (its limits, etc), I'd really appreciate it
I tried as above and it booted to windows then just shut down so must not be stable, I reset the CMOS/bios and it boots fine again, could I off damaged the CPU or did it just crash because it was unstable, oh and awesome video tho very in depth 🙂
It's highly unlikely you damaged the CPU. What you describe is the same thing I go through hundreds of times when testing a particular CPU. Overclocking has been described as the art of blue-screening until you pass the benchmark.

In pbo Supercharger how determine value of curve per Core?
First I change the Curve Opt by 5 steps downwards (so -5), then I go in the OS and use an application called CoreCycler to check the stability of each core. If all pass, then I go back in the bios and change all to -10. Repeat until one crashes. Then I switched to per core Curve Opt, copy the values that worked for all cores, and start doing the same on a per core. When think my settings are stable, I will run all my normal benchmarks and stability tests to see if it's still stable. Sometimes a core can pass the CoreCycler but fails in another test.

Regarding OC Tuner, in this Video th-cam.com/video/5J2av7mJ7Lg/w-d-xo.html the guy says, that you should not increase the Voltage with CPU Vcore, but with Settings>AMD CBS>Custom Core PStates. That would mybe yield better single core results, so the OC Tuner Method would actually be the best option since it already yielded the best multi core results, but lacked with single core performance.
I dont know why you came up with the whole 'supercharged pbo' but I bet it's unstable for 99.9% of people watching. That and i got the same singlethread (pbo+co) without all of the weird hassle you do and can get better multithread scores (like 23.5k) without, again, all the weird hassle you go through.
Unfortunately AOCT is only available on select motherboards (and not the X570 Master). The other overclocking strategies should work on the non-S Master
I can't get even the BCLK to 100.10Mhz. When i go higher then 100mhz it just won't boot anymore (5900x + Aorus master X570). Also I'm not able to reach 5ghz , i guess you have an extremely well binned Silicon here.
@@SkatterBencher Actually found my issues, i had memory OC and finetuned subtimings to the limit. Any few hertz higher was to much for my ram to not boot

This is extremely informative and really detailed, very well explained! (I am new to amd and have planned first build using amd but always loved overclocking my hardware ;p) :) Will keep this by for future reference as my next build will be on amd x570 platform and will be a 5950x, obviously settings will differ to the 5900x but would be interesting to know, currently waiting on both evga to release their mobo and than amd for the higher cache versions of the 5000 series chips, have got case and build planned out just waiting patiently for mobo and cpu haha, great guide cheers again :D Got yourself another sub man ;)

I'm seeing with lite load- pbo +200 - curve optimizer - 15 all cores, 100 blck netted a low of 5000.03 to a high of 5150.3. and 4.750 all core 100% load with 67 degree C. 360mm custom loop. Silicon lottery here. Load line set to auto....

I got 23,500 Cinebench 23, max temp 74c with an arctic freezer 2 360mm on 195 ppt, 160 tdc, 180 edc with LLC on Auto (msi board) and Auto OC/Scalar on Auto. Best 4 cores on 25, the rest on 30. I dont test using prime anymore, run cinebench for half an hour and alternate between versions. I know 195w is semi-coolable and getting the 4950 boost consistent is very nice. Also no crashes really unless I start messing around with the AutoOC/LCC functions. I feel like lower values (100-) tend to be more stable but for me it introduces unstable performance. But I've heard that's because my Curve Optimizer is set too high for usage with AutoOC.

5900x is a sleeping beast u need to wake up with the right PBO Curve (asus strix 570x - negative 30 all) .I got 5,33ghz on one core and usually around 5,125 ghz on all cores with 140w max power consumption with 82 max temp

(Aorus Master non s) Ram is 16-19-19 3600 at stock XMP settings. 360 AIO only. Big case. Temps max at about 78 in CB... Should I look for some 4266 ram? My best CB 23 is 30690 (5950x)...stock was around 24-27k. Hope your respond to me on this superb 2 year old vid! (I'm an amateur overclocker, that's fo sho (but have gotten an old Xeon x5680 system from 3.33 to 4.65 Ghz....)
RESUME: Doing all the tests and tuning PBO to its limit will improve very little performance in games when using a Ryzen 5900x (which is not a great gaming cpu comparing to ryzen 5800x3d). Probaly even a Ryzen 5600 or 5600x well tuned would have a much better cost benefit in gaming performance, requiring much simplier cooling. But, for those who want to optimize the Ryzen 5900x, I think that the PBO final tuning and time required is not valuable in performance. Just do the basic PBO ans curve optmizer and you will get clocks close to its maximum tuning.

On AOCT vs DOS: I haven't looked into a technical comparison of both features, so I cannot comment on the quality of implementation. Practically, both solutions are pretty much the same way of setting up and produce the same kind of results.
On MSI X570S: not sure. I have the X570S Carbon EK X on the test bench now and there's no feature like AOCT/DOS.

Hello first off thank you for taking the time to put this together as it led to me purchasing both the x570S as well as the 5900x, and just so happened to put together a custom EK loop and I couldn’t be happier. However I am a novice in overclocking(previously overclocked an fx6300 lol) and fail to understand the necessity of the m.2 NVME drive when speaking about the Supercharge method around 39:22 and was hoping you could clarify if it would be possible to still use this method /without/ the NVME drive, or would I have to compromise by using a different method instead? Or am misunderstanding entirely? Thank you again for your time!!
I believe he means to say that increasing BLCK could affect SATA drives. The M.2 top slot is NVME and it gets it's lanes directly from the CPU. It's also the most used slot in any system because that's where everyone's primary hard drive gets installed.
i just got this exact mobo and cpu...i only meant to upgrade my current gpu from a 2080 to a 3090 but then i thought while I'm at it i may as well take advantage of all the sales right now and upgrade my cpu from the 3700x to the 5900x... so i bought a cheap b550 board i was gonna put all my old parts on...but upgrading my current x570 aorus pro wifi meant fiddlin with the bios update and that's sketchy af to me so i decided to leave the current board alone and went and got the x570s aorus master... and to cool it got an arctic 280mm aio lol...i had no plans of totally rebuilding the entire system but here we are with a whole new rig... still sitting on the shelf cause I'm too lazy to get into it lol. i made the right choice with the x570 pro wifi...i hope this x570x master was a good choice as well!

Hi, I'd like to ask: How do you get over 200W of power consumption from your CPU? I can't get more than 185w with my 5900x, I set ppt edc tdc 250/20/200 as you said. My motherboard is a crosshair viii formula, but my cpu doesn't reach more than 85 degrees C.
Power consumption will be primarily driven by two factors: workload and voltage.
If you want to see the high per consumption, then I'd suggest to use the same Prime 95 Small FFTs with AVX workload I use for stability testing. With just PBO enabled, I already reach 203W and 90C.
Setting PPT/EDC/TDC will allow for higher than default power & current, but if you're not hitting the limit already these settings won't do much for you.
Voltage is a bit more tricky to increase using Precision Boost Overdrive, but you can try increasing Scalar to see if the algorithm pursues higher voltages. If all that doesn't work, you can try with a manual voltage offset.

You can increase it by +50 and see if it has any effect on your maximum frequency. Keep a close eye on the VRM temperature as you increase PPT, EDC, and TDC as these parameters meant to prevent any kind of VRM overheating under heavy load.

Dude get today my 5900x. Set it on my Asus b550m-a like yours. LLC on CPU on Medium works better for me. Cpu Z score Single 676. Multi 9727. Now i am on Curve - 22 and VCore Offset - 0.06250V. Cpu Z Single 692 and Multi 10.086. And temps are so low.

It might be interesting for you to know (maybe you already do) that PBO Scalar actually scales FIT Limit. To monitor current FIT value and whether it reaches the limit (and hence frequency gets throttled by this limiter) one has to use some Zen3 Power Table Monitor software like github.com/hattedsquirrel/ryzen_monitor for Linux or for Windows CPU/AMD Monitor/AMD Monitor from this tool www.overclock.net/threads/official-amd-ryzen-ddr4-24-7-memory-stability-thread.1628751/post-28825621 . E.g. for 5600x Scalar 5x is already enough for any y-cruncher test, as well as Prime95. That is, no reason to set it to 10x. This probably can allow for lower CO values (if one is concerned with CoreCycler-stability) and will lower power consumption
I didn't know about this particular tool, but I use another one to check the FIT. I can't put that in videos though, so thanks for sharing. I will definitely check it out and try to use it for future videos!
As for the LLC: for this system I didn't search for the optimal LLC but just picked one in the middle :). The reason for fixing the LLC is because from prior experience (SB#24 5700G) I noticed that your best Curve Optimizer settings will change depending on the LLC you use.
And as for the difference between what I say and the numbers; yea I need to find a better way to avoid this. I put together the visuals after recording as I'm editing. Sometimes when editing something doesn't quite make sense, I go back to check on the system ... and sometimes the numbers change.
Hi, very very informative and exhasutive video! I'm going to make a build with Ryzen 5950 and Aorus Master x570. I will use it mainly for racing and flight simulation. What would you suggest as a strategy in my case? I sense that all in all supercharge PBO is the best/recommended at the end? I want to be in a "safe" ground though...
My general recommendation for AMD platforms is as follows:
1) Enable PBO + XMP is always suggested (OCS#1)
2) PBO Tuning + XMP if you're okay with a little bit of tuning (OCS#4)
3) If you have a board with AOCT, the combine a manual OC with PBO tuned (OCS#3)
Supercharged PBO will give the higher performance but it's also the most expert approach I've outlined in the video. Unless you're ready to put a lot of effort and time in the overclock, I wouldn't suggest this strategy.
I am debating to get the 5900x and buying a used 1.0 X570S Aorus Master ($280). I am wondering if thats the best Motherboard and is 1.0 still good? I have heard that some people have had issues...have you had any and what version do you have?
There is only v1.0 of the 570S . There is 3 versions of the Non S X570 Master. 1.0,1.1,1.2. I have v1.0 of the 570S master and v1.0 570 Master no real issues with either. Single core score is a touch lower on the 570S with the exact same cpu/temps/power limits. Could be the factory tuning of lineload calibration have not played with it yet.

When you are showing your ratios, you already figured those out by trial and error. I read that in another comment. Same with your PBO core offsets; my CPU is going to be different. What about your voltage over-ride figures? How did you arrive at those? Are those based off of the P95 runs and their corresponding max core ratios?

The overclocking approach should be similar enough, since this video is with a GIGABYTE board I don't think the settings can be copied 1-to-1

Personally with the GIGABYTE x570s & 5900x with 3600MHzDDR4, I can follow stable to step 3,and partially to 4. I was wondering how did you distillate the per CCD ratio settings? The same for the curve optimiser settings. Is it al trial and error and just gradually increase values?
Yup, basically trial and error. I use an application called CoreCycler to get a initial idea of the stability for each core. If the core passes I increase the negative curve (or increase the ratio if manual OC). If the core fails, I do the opposite. Rinse and repeat until all cores are finetuned.
CoreCycler doesn't always give the final judgment, so I also run through my benchmark suite to check if there's any instability I didn't catch before.
Hey does the active OC tuner really come on the gigabyte Aorus Pro AX motherboards? I've seen gigabyte say that on their website, but I noticed you didnt use it In your video using the b550 pro ax video. They also say the aero G board has it as well....just don't wanna shell out that much $ on a aorus master! ;)
I was told it's available on the X570 AORUS Xtreme 2.0, X570S AORUS Master, X570S AORUS Pro AX, and X570S AERO G.

After using this for almost 2 years [PBO TUNED] , it's very much stable but for now am experiencing random restarts, which caused by a ram whenever i set it back to default it works randomly but i lose the extra performance.., any advice ? [Most people say to increase Dram voltage by 0.05 not sure about that]
My 5950X boosts to 5350 with just PBO...
Great detail and depth. 90c on water seems a bit warm though. I'd by happier limiting it to 80c
90C is the thermal limit that's also used by AMD's Precision Boost. If it's high enough for AMD, it's high enough for me :)

might depend on your motherboard. I had an x570 Taichi and had fair results, bought a MSI X570s MEG ACE MAX and now most cores are -30... overall, it's not worth the more expensive motherboard, but, I like to tweak.

I'm just wondering why you get so high temps. i activate XMP, put negative 30 in curve optimizer and call it a day. 11% all core improvement (4.3 - 4.4 GHz) and single core 5.05 GHz. Temperature at around 65 C with a noctua NH-D15s
What stress test are you using to check the temperature?
Are the options shown in the video also present on lower-end cards like the X570S UD/Gaming X?
OC Strategy #1, #2, #4, and #5 use tools that should be available on any motherboard. AOCT not available on all boards.

Hey @skatterbencher bro I have a 5900x and aorus master x570, I enabled pbo and I havent had much time to test, but any reason why I would see 2 blue screens when would shut down my pc, I would get a whea uncorrectable error. Before you video, I saw another and tried to manually optimize pbo curve, i had it running stable, but had unresponsiveness on the 2nd monitor for a couple of.seconds. I remember in your video you mentioned bare pbo enabled gives best pbo performance then you also super charged oc tuner, I'm not to interested in that. But any idea why i.would experience blusreen when I shutdown my pc. And then it will restart. It doesnt happen all the time it's happened twice.

Cooling is Heatkiller IV on a Mora420 with dual D5 which @ 💯 give a 380lt/hr. Gpu is on air so cpu gets all cooling. No deliding or LM though.

Hard to say without access to the system. Are the settings stable? Most motherboards have an automatic safety feature where they will reset the BIOS settings to default if the system failed to boot.

Hi - thx for info. Tried this today with my 5900x, same X570S mobo, and on Strategy 2B using your figures (per CCX 46.50 and 45.25, XMP, CPU Vcore @ 1.35V), I cannot keep system stable - P95 keeps crashing on small, no AVX. I think it is from CPU temps which are mid-90s and creeping up during test, this was with a Ninja air cooler which is about as big an air cooler as one can get. So...is this type of OC only possible with water loop cooling? FYI when I go back to previous Auto settings for CCX and voltage, and enable PBO, I am stable running same P95 test (with CPU temps mid-70s)
Also FYI in latest bios (F3) for this Gigabyte X570S Master, if you enable AOCT on the Tweaker tab there is no option for CPU Current Limit or CPU Temperature Limit underneath the AOCT toggle as shown in your video...not sure if it is hiding somewhere in a submenu.

Also, is the threshold for the active OC tuner relatively the same and its okay to jsut copy the nubmer from the video, or should we find it ourselves?
Unless you're really interested in maxing out the system, I'd stock at OC Strategy #4 (PBO Tuned). The method for #4 should work fine with any cooler, including a 360 AIO, since the voltage and frequency is still governed by the Precision Boost algorithm.
For Dynamic OC Switching (ASUS-equivalent of AOCT) I would definitely suggest to find the threshold for your particular system as it will depend on your particular CPU and cooling solution.

I manually test the maximum frequency of each CCD. I get this question a lot, so maybe for my next Ryzen video I should include at least a little explanation about it :)
@@SkatterBencher do you test CCD0 first until you reach the maximum stable and then the CCD1 or just up them both until one fails and up the other one then?
Generally my process is to test both at the same time. I choose a starting voltage and CCD ratio, then go in OS and run Prime95 small FFTs non-AVX for about 5 minutes or so. This will tell me two things:
(1) If any of the cores of the either CCD is unstable, usually Prime95 will drop a thread rather than fully crash. If no threads are dropped after 5 minutes, it's good enough to try higher ratio.
(2) If the temperature hits 100C or higher then I know I'm using too much voltage and need to reduce it.
After a couple of iterations usually I'll find 1 CCD that's a little worse. So I stop pushing that one and just increase the other. After I find the maximum for both CCDs I do the same Prime95 test but for 30min (which is my standard for stability testing). It happens quite often than I have to back down further on both CCDs doing the full 30min run because the temperature still increases.

It's not about mobo vendors not allowing better CPU performance out-of-the-box by enabling PBO at "optimized" default settings
It's entirely about the vendors' intentional obfuscation of the behavior of options set to "Auto" on their products so they can continue to "cheat" (I don't care if they do or do not "cheat", I care if they're transparent in describing how their products do what they do so I can make informed purchase/use decisions) while conducting marketing activities against their competitors all while hiding behind the idea that anything they don't want to discuss is covered by an AMD/Intel NDA... That's garbage
I'd be happy to have vendors give me great performance by enabling what they see works well before it shows up at my door to be installed... Just actually hire a tech writer to draft the BIOS help strings/manuals
Or tell the dude writing server products manuals (hmmmmm... Yes and no.
Yes, because the overclocking process for 5900X and 5950X are pretty much the same apart from 5950X having more cores and thus runs slightly hotter under all-core load.
No, because PBO Supercharged is a finetuning approach to Ryzen overclocking which will be different for each system. If you want to try, I'd suggest not to straight up copy the settings but gradually try it out on your system.

If you put your Pbo limits to mobo, you can read out your max values in Ryzen Master :)
I tried as above and it booted to windows then just shut down so must not be stable, I reset the CMOS/bios and it boots fine again, could I off damaged the CPU or did it just crash because it was unstable, oh and awesome video tho very in depth 🙂
It's highly unlikely you damaged the CPU. What you describe is the same thing I go through hundreds of times when testing a particular CPU. Overclocking has been described as the art of blue-screening until you pass the benchmark.
In pbo Supercharger how determine value of curve per Core?
First I change the Curve Opt by 5 steps downwards (so -5), then I go in the OS and use an application called CoreCycler to check the stability of each core. If all pass, then I go back in the bios and change all to -10. Repeat until one crashes.
Then I switched to per core Curve Opt, copy the values that worked for all cores, and start doing the same on a per core.
When think my settings are stable, I will run all my normal benchmarks and stability tests to see if it's still stable. Sometimes a core can pass the CoreCycler but fails in another test.
Would you try with HYDRA from 1usmus?

Regarding OC Tuner, in this Video th-cam.com/video/5J2av7mJ7Lg/w-d-xo.html the guy says, that you should not increase the Voltage with CPU Vcore, but with Settings>AMD CBS>Custom Core PStates. That would mybe yield better single core results, so the OC Tuner Method would actually be the best option since it already yielded the best multi core results, but lacked with single core performance.
Yeah but is it stable OCCT and running HC memory test for errors bet you get some.
Do you have a link where I can review the common stability test procedure with those applications?

I dont know why you came up with the whole 'supercharged pbo' but I bet it's unstable for 99.9% of people watching.
That and i got the same singlethread (pbo+co) without all of the weird hassle you do and can get better multithread scores (like 23.5k) without, again, all the weird hassle you go through.

Unfortunately AOCT is only available on select motherboards (and not the X570 Master). The other overclocking strategies should work on the non-S Master
I can't get even the BCLK to 100.10Mhz. When i go higher then 100mhz it just won't boot anymore (5900x + Aorus master X570).
Also I'm not able to reach 5ghz , i guess you have an extremely well binned Silicon here.
Are you using an M.2 SSD or a regular SATA drive?

@@SkatterBencher Actually found my issues, i had memory OC and finetuned subtimings to the limit. Any few hertz higher was to much for my ram to not boot

BCLK overclocking on X570 and X570S sucks. While B550 will happily boot 108 BCLK, X570 will act up at 103.
