Hey Ginger,! It was one of those once in a lifetime trips. 18 days going through Europe. Fantastic places but very tiring! Glad to hear that you're enjoying the videos. Appreciate you watching and thanks for leaving a comment. Hope you have a great rest of your weekend. Hello to everybody!
Fantastic views - and worth every inch of the way up. Now I'm past the stage I would want to climb those steps...but would have 10-15 years ago. Having been up in the French Alps ( Chamonix-Mont Blanc) I felt very much connected to this experience. Brought back lovely memories. Thank you so much for sharing this absolutely wonderful, no stunning view and experience with me/us. Just fabulous. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀🇳🇿🌺

Very good video. I will be there in September and this is on the list. I was in Switzerland 5 years ago and went up to the Jungfrau at 11,333 ft. Hiked down from Kleine Scheidegg. The alps are beautiful!

I just found your channel and love it! Thank you for sharing your journeys! When you took the cogwheel train from Garmisch to the top of the Zugspitze, did you have to switch trains like you did on the way back?
Hello and welcome! No, going up we did not have to switch trains. Coming down we did but not all trains switch coming down so ask when you board. It was a lot of fun and if you are going you are going to love it! Thanks for watching! Any questions, please ask! Cheers!
Steve and Co.-Thank you. Excellent, succinct video. Perfect. So u stayed in Garmisch (town) - normal train into Eibsee- from there COG train halfway up (?) - then small cable car to top- then big cable car down quickly-lol. Heading across the water in 2 weeks hopefully crowds are smaller- early morning. Thanks again.....Joseph- St. Louis, MO 1 more note: The Stansenhorn in Switz has an open air/roof Cable Car? Cheesas......
Hey! Glad you found the video useful and it sounds like you have a great trip planned. And yes, crowds should be much smaller this time of the year. Thanks for watching. Thanks for leaving a comment!
Thank you for the great video. The video is super clear, easy to understand. We struggle to find how to book the transportation too. Will go there in a few days.if you don't mind, I have a question Myself who a little bit easy to get scare of things (I don't have any specific phobia) which one is less scary between 25 mins in the tunnel or longer cable car? I am a little bit concerned. Thank you in advance 🙏
Hello! Thats a good question! We did both, train up through the tunnel and the longer cable car down, as you saw in the video. Both did not feel scary at all and we felt secure at all times. If you tend not to like feeling closed in, then the tunnel may be uncomfortable. If you don't like heights, then the long cable car might be an issue. But the train tunnel did not seem long at all, and coming down the long cable car did not seem too high off the ground. So, both felt less scary than I thought they would! I know what you mean about booking the transportation. It took me a long time of reading over their website to understand what to do! Glad our video helped you! Let us know how it goes for you! Enjoy your trip! Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
Thanks for a great informative video. The wife and I will be there in September. I understand they do a glacier tour, is that at the plateau or the summit?
Good question. We did not see that offered when we there last Sept. As a matter of fact, I don't remember seeing and snow during our visit up top. If you do find a glacier tour, please post back. Have a great trip and thanks for watching! Cheers!
Glad you found the video useful. We were there in mid-september and as you saw there was no snow on the ground. So unless they have an early winter I doubt they'll be snow there in October. But even without snow, it's a cool place to visit! Appreciate you watching and for leaving a comment. Hope you guys have a great trip! Cheers!
Hello! We were in Garmisch the second week of September 2023 and the weather was perfect. Glad you enjoyed the videos! Hope you have a great trip! Thanks for watching...Cheers!
Funny, before this trip I was there when I was 16. I was still impressed with what we saw this trip. Hope you have a great time also ...thanks for watching! Thanks for leaving a comment! Cheers!
No, he didn't. But it's a great suggestion! We were tired and hungry when we arrived and wanted to head back into town but maybe next time! Thanks for watching and thanks for leaving input. Cheers!
We really liked the train ride up. It was nice to see the countryside and then fun to go through the tunnel. So, we would definitely take the train up and the long cable car down again! Thanks for watching and for the question!
If you take the large cable car in both directions, does the ticket also let you go down and back up the smaller cable car at the top of the train? I’m guessing no, but still hoping. In 2016 we stayed in Ehrwald, Austria and hiked up to the Sonn Alpin hutte and lift, then down the Ehrwalder Zugspitzbahn. We definitely recommend it! This year, we’re staying in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Prefer the faster cable car up, but would love to be able to get to a place where we can do at least short walks, and it seems that you have to use one of the smaller/shorter gondolas for that.
I think the standard ticket is for up and down, so I'm guessing once you start to go down you cannot turn around a go back up. But I could be wrong. We went up on the train and it did not seem to take too long and was a nice ride. Then we spent time below the summit before taking the short cable car to the top. It seemed like there was no time rush to take the small cable car to the top. So, you could hike around up there, and you might be able to hike to the summit from that spot but it looked steep! Hope that helps. Your 2016 trip sounded great! Thanks for watching and for asking a question. Cheers!
@@TravelwithNJSteveandSue Thanks for your kind reply. We’ll be going in early June, so assuming that here may be too much snow, especially to get to the true summit. Love your channel!
Thank you for sharing this video! I'm heading to Germany in September and Zuspitze and Eibsee are on the itinerary. If I want to hike around the lake after taking the cable car up, do you recommend driving to the lake and doing the long cable car up and down? Or would you still do the cog wheel train and just hike around the lake before heading back on the train?
I believe the trail around the lake is around 4.4 milesi. So if it was me and I wanted to walk around the lake and go to the top of the mountain I would probably take the cable car up and down and then walk around the lake. This way you don't have to rush and don't have to be worried about the time. September is a great month to go. Hope you have a great trip! Thanks for watching. Thanks for asking a question! Ps. I would probably go to the top of the mountain first early in the day since it does get crowded as the day goes on. Cheers!
You can do it both ways, if you start early enough you can do the big trip with trains and cable cars too. If you want to drive to Eibsee, you have to keep one thing in mind: Avoid sunny and warn weekends! Sometmes the parking lot at Eibsee is completely full - in this case the road from Grainau will be closed for avoiding a complete chaos around the lake.

About your travelling time: October can be the best time if you just want to take the cable cars without a hike! In early summer. From May to around August you have many days with clouds from about noon jntil the evening, also (sometimes strong) thunderstorms are common in the afternoon. In September and October you have a better chance to have a day with blue sky without any clouds for the whole day.

I want to do this trip in september but the ticket selling is not that clear to me. Am i correct that it is 1 ticket "zugspitze round trip" that includes train from garmisch and cable cars up and down? or do you need separate tickets for cable cars?
It is confusing because they have too many choices on the website! If you click the "one day tickets Zugspitze" and then "Zugspitze roundtrip. Ascent and descent" that will allow you one trip up and one trip down. That allows you to take the cogwheel train from Garmisch, and then at the end of the line for the train a short cable car ride to the Zugspitze. Coming down you could do the same in the opposite direction or take the long cable car down to the lake and then pick up the cogwheel train back to Garmisch. So yes, the cable car rides are all included. No extra tickets to buy. Hope that helps! It is a great place to visit! Enjoy! Thanks for watching and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
