In your video you state that "plant protein has not been associated with increased levels of the cancer-promoting growth hormone IGF-1," however, a recent randomized controlled study of 37 patients with type II diabetes found that not to be the case. The researchers noted, "The most striking finding is that plant protein induces similar increases of IGF-1 as animal protein does....our results suggest that differences between plant vs. animal protein intake and cancer or cardiovascular risk do not arise from their effects on components of the IGF-1-system but protective properties of other components present in plant-based diets." The study is titled, "Similar dietary regulation of IGF-1- and IGF-binding proteins by animal and plant protein in subjects with type 2 diabetes."

Wow, this is the first time in all these years watching these videos that I can say my mind is blown. I honestly did not expect this outcome.
Interestingly, the researchers concluded, that they did not find a significant difference between protein isolate products and whole food sources, “suggesting that the cholesterol-lowering effects are at least, in part, attributable to the plant protein itself rather than just the associated nutrients.” So, it’s not just because plant protein travels with fiber or less saturated fat. Plant proteins break down into a different distribution of amino acids; and so, it’s like if you give people arginine, an amino acid found more in plant foods, that alone can bring down people’s cholesterol. And even plant protein concentrates used in these products aren’t pure protein, retaining a few active compounds such as phytosterols and antioxidants, which also can have beneficial effects.

    • @justinw1765

Personally speaking, soy really bothers me unless it is first cultured or fermented. I have no issues with things like tempeh, soy yogurt, miso, tamari, etc (well natto kind of grosses me out and so haven't tried it yet), but soy milk, straight soy beans, and concentrated soy proteins make me mucousy and gassy AF. Tofu is kind of in between these, but closer to the first group, for me. My theory as to the reason why soy raises IGF levels, in large amounts, similar to meat etc, is because some of the proteins in soy are very, very hard to fully break down and so the undigested particles cause an inflammation and mucous response (to try to help move it out of the body, like it does with a foreign invading pathogen causing infection). This is where the culturing and fermenting come into play here--the probiotic microbes essentially help to predigest those very hard to digest proteins, thus making it easier for your body to fully digest/assimilate it. This is very similar to the A1 casein protein found in regular cow milk (but not in goats, sheep, buffalo, or more ancient breed of cows). Regular cow milk, makes me really mucousy, but the yogurt form doesn't bother me at all.
I have no issue with pea protein concentrate.

@@ggscv then u should go check my comment on that video. The arsenic is mainly in US grown rice because the soil is so polluted but i got my rice from a local farmer friend who grow them on the foot of a nearby volcano. FYI Indonesia is practically a chain of 17k+ islands w/ most volcanoes. So it’s not bad news for me but maybe for u if u’r a rice eater. I suggest u go back to ur root heritage and eat what ur ancestors eat for starch.

@@ima7333 I literally just looked at some papers on arsenic content in Indonesian rice and the content varies, but even if you are eating the best organic rice which has the lowest arsenic content, it still may have a significant effect, especially if you are eating lots of rice every day. Here is the paper (done by Indonesian researchers aimed at Indonesian people), you can read it for yourself:
      www.orientjchem.org/vol34no5/analysis-of-arsenic-in-rice-in-medan-north-sumatera-indonesia-by-atomic-absorption-spectrophotometer/
"According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), arsenic is included in the first class as a carcinogenic substance and may cause lung, skin and bladder cancer in humans without a minimum threshold value in which small amounts of arsenic can be harmful to human health"
"The results of this study must be a warning as serious concern because arsenic can cause cancer and high intake of rice in Medan. This can be a serious concern for the government and for next researcher it is suggested to importance of researching the source of arsenic intake from other foodstuffs so it is known the total amount of arsenic intake in Medan, Indonesia, community besides it is suggested to do research on factors influencing arsenic level in rice circulating in Medan City."
Just giving you the facts, I too am from an Asian country and I try to eat as little rice as possible now because it is likely to be the main source of arsenic in peoples diets. Besides, white rice isn't that good for you anyway - go watch the nutritionfacts videos on rice and it will change your mind.

I don’t really care about cancer since i already got it once, lived w/ it for 2 whole yrs before an honest doctor figured it out then another 3 months before i got surgery. I’m not that worried about the arsenic i eat from the little white rice. I’d worry more about pesticide, herbicide & antibiotics from animal products that might snuck their way into my food. Rice has some natural arsenic but it’s supposedly low levels. But there are supposedly ways you can take some of it off by pre-boiling. I’m sure it depends too on where it was grown and the water it grows in and the soil as well. Everything is so polluted! What people are not getting, I think we will all get cancer at some point because of our water and the pesticides that is being used. I have it right now and I was suppose to be healthy. I never thought I would get this and at this age, yet here I am. It’s the damn water and I have neighbors, they use so much pesticides on their property (and only for green grass). Also what they don't mention is that these 'meat eaters' in the studies are in fact Standard American Diet eaters, which is to say ultra processed food, sodas. These people are likely obese, have metabolic syndrome, hyperinsulinemia etc. These are more likely factors in the increase cancer risk.

Great looking guy with a face for television, but having him gesture next to the graphics is distracting and overall everything comes off less scholarly than it deserves to...like there's an appeal to something other than the viewer's intellect.

    • @justinw1765
      @justinw1765 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Particularly tempeh I would say is far more healthy. Soy protein is really hard to digest, at least for me, and has an allergenic effect in my body unless it is first cultured or fermented. Tempeh is also pretty high in protein, while having a lot of other nutrients, and the microbes partially predigest it, making it easier for a body to fully digest it (which is why it doesn't spark that allergenic type response in self and many others).
When it comes to concentrated plant proteins, I stick with pea, because it doesn't have that allergenic type effect on me.
