This situation is just ridiculous! I bought a large Moleskine daily and my sticker is yellow with the geometric pattern and my paper is almost as good as Hobonichi paper. I can use fountain pens, all my markers and even stamping ink by Ranger. My friend bought a Pocket daily and had the exact same sticker and everything bleeds! The inconsistency keeps me from getting more Moleskine products even though I would probably use them exclusively otherwise! Sizes, layouts and availability are just perfect!
Lorelei- I 100000% get it. I just commented below that I am seriously considering another brand next year. the inconsistency is just horrible and wasting money on the same planner and praying you get a "good" one is just ridiculous!
So happy that you pointing out the problems with the Moleskine paper quality. Hopefully the company will listen and improve their notebooks. The struggle is real 😬 My weekly this year is driving me crazy because of the bleeding. I love the pocket size, I love the paper color, I love how my used notebooks look but I hate the poor paper quality and that could in the future make me choose another notebook brand. It shouldn't be nessesary to buy several notebooks in hope of getting a good one. Either the quality should be consistent or we should be able to know the paper quality before unwrapping our purchase.
I TOTALLY agree, Annie. Consistency would be expected. this experience is really making me question next year. I know it's silly to already be thinking about it but I dont want to have to cross my fingers in order to hope I get the right quality paper. I am really upset with Moleskine. I guess I will reach out to them to get some answers and report it back. still frustrating.
I know this is a bit of an older video, but this really explains a lot. I bought large 18 month 2023-2024 daily planner from Moleskine when they were 70% on sale to use as a journal and I've been loving the paper. It take tombows well, it takes my favorite uniball well and even water coloring is fine (for a none watercolor paper).
Then I bought pocket notebook for an everyday carry and the experience is completely different. None of the tools I use in the 18 month work in the pocket. I had to switch the pen to a muji one because my uniball was bleeding straight through. Watercolors react oddly on the page and what comes to tombows I'll just have to accept the fact that they will look grainy and blead through.
So thank you for this video. It was good to get an explanation for this.
Hi there!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! 🥰. Oh Moleskine-gate was a huge deal this past year. The layers of confusion. So many of us thought it was a color tag issue- meaning if you had a certain color it means good vs. the bad ones. However, that wasnt the case. each color had a different design. So it complicated it soooooo much. Just an FYI- there is a new planner that will be giving Moleskine pocket a run for its money- it is a new pocket planner from Paper Tess Design - you can find her on instagram. Hope that helps!!

Yes! I bought myself a nice moleskin for my bullet journal last year, got super excited to set it up and when I started writing with my Pigma Micron... it bled. So I switched to a ballpoint pen, and it still was ghosting so bad! And that's when I realized I wasn't even going to be able to use any of my tombows or any other of my favorite pens. I was so frustrated and ended up just buying a cheap notebook on amazon that had way thicker quality paper. That moleskine is just in my "unused" notebook collecting and unless I use a pencil (which I hate) I don't even know what I'll use it for.
isn't that the WORST feeling. Being so excited to use a product an then realizing you have a dud. you either have to change all the things you love (pens, markers, etc) to accommodate the new notebook or you ditch the notebook you were excited to use. I knew that I was going to allow myself to buy one more and if it was a dud- that was it. i still kinda feel that way. since moleskine isn't answering the quality issues, I am worried that they won't ever and next year we will be in the same boat. my little pocket brings me joy. joy to decorate it. joy to look back on my 2023 and see my themes and my color choices and how I productive my days are. not being able to use the markers I love or the colors due to fear of bleed through and ghosting... it just takes all the fun out of it. hopefully we find a good fit for us next year!
I have the same sticker color, pattern, and control number in a larger size 2024 Moleskine weekly planner and, like your new one, it also takes the Tombow marker well. Better than last year's paper, actually, but I don't have the sticker for last year's planner to ID it.
I bought my good 2024 planner from a local bookshop in the summer of 2023 (way early).
Who knew we should save the sticker???!! LOL. I purchased my 2024 moleskine from Moleskine website back in August 2023. so for me the hard part is reconciling that the "BAD" one came directly from them. The "good" one came from Amazon. no rhyme or reason. seriously none

I went back and looked at my blue sticker, which has the same pattern as yours. I purchased mine from Amazon as well. But you know what is happening that is making me mad? My back cover is peeling away from the spine. It cannot withstand bending it back to move it in/out of the Jelly cover. I've just placed it in a leather cover and will leave it. It shouldn't fall apart unless I continue to bend the back cover backward. Disappointing, though, I really like the planner, so I'll keep using it.
yours is separating this early in the year????? OH NO!!! mine started to peel from the spine probably 3rd quarter- which I expected because of the word/time stickers bulking it up. and as you know mine was in a leather planner. This year I actually purchased a jelly cover from Planner Monkey Co for the moleskine daily but I just couldn't abandon my leather cover. I remember watching a video about someone having the same issue and having a pretty good solve for it. If I can remember that- I will send you the link to that video. :)

I believe I received the same type of paper you did. The Tombows are very blotchy. Completely different in my other Molskine. I have a moleskine that is just a notebook but the paper texture feels completely different. I have both yellow stickers but they have different patterns. I guess I'll return mine back to Amazon. My nice notebook paper has the same pattern of yours but different colors. So the quality control definitely has something to do with it. Bummer because I was excited to try the dailies out.
such a bummer! it is so sad to not know what you are getting. I strongly suggest that you purchase from Amazon because you can return it.
I tried 3 times to use the pocket Moleskine last year and I must have gotten 3 duds. I kept thinking “How does anyone use this paper”? I really need a a chunky daily pocket planner but I don’t know if I dare try it again this year.
oh my goodness!!! I would have been FURIOUS!!! I hope that you got your money back in some way, shape or form. if you do decide to try it again, I strongly suggest AMAZON because they do not care if it is opened.. you can tell immediately
if the paper is good or not. but, yea- after 3 duds, I would probably look at other brands. I know I just got 1 dud and I am already considering other brands for next year.
This is painful. I have now ordered SIX from Amazon and all have the yellow tickets. I can't get moleskine to write me back. I just want ONE daily pocket for this year. It's so frustrating!!
Krystal!!!! OMG!! I would be furious. This is EXACTLY why I am super concerned. I didnt realize until a month into the year that my paper was wonky. it didnt even dawn on me that the quality of the moleskine paper would be an issue. Now that I know...I am not sure I will be in it in 2025. But if I do that I will have to sell my Eternal leather goods cover. :(
@@MyMoxieDreams I did end up contacting them and this was their reply: “We confirm that the quality of the Moleskine paper has not changed. We have continued to use the same type of paper, purchased from our historic paper factory, for the production of our items. Our supplier has remained the same since the birth of our company, however, it is possible that some changes which are beyond our control may have had an impact on certain characteristics of the paper (such as technological improvements and chemical components). At the same time, some small differences may always occur from one batch to another”.
I've heard about this problem with Moleskine for several years now. It is what keeps me from buying a Moleskine. I don't want to spend money on a maybe.
I wish I would have known... it is so disappointing- especially since I have leather covers specifically for moleskine. ugh! :(
Have you ever tried the Leuchtturm A6 (which is more like an A6 slim)?
I tried Moleskine and I didn't like how my fountain pens or gel pens glided over it. I found the paper to be slightly rough.
I agree! The Leuchtterm is so so nice. I switched from the Moleskine pocket when the paper went bad.
I have some Leuchtturm notebooks that I got from Marshall's for a great price. The paper is really nice, and a tiny bit thicker than Moleskine.
That is actually the one I almost went with. My local bookstore carries them (hardback). two things about them. 1. I can't pronounce that brand to save my life!!!! LOL. 2nd. I think they are a little taller than my Eternal leather good covers and that would be so sad for me to not be able to use them. But a STRONG consideration for next year for sure!!!

right?!! I have a total love hate feeling right now.... not sure what I will do for 2025... I'm that unhappy about the quality.
moleskin is so incredibly inconsistent.
sometimes the paper is beautiful. but i've had some real stinkers where one side of the paper is half decent, while the other side will feel coarse to the touch and the ink used to print the graph paper grid had feathered.
edit: i emailed their customer service back in 2009 wondering about this and got this response - "Thank you for your email. The quality of paper has not changed overtime. Howevere, since the paper is a natural product, the quality can change slightly from a production to another. We have a strict quality control and we are always really concern about the quality of our porducts.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed on how such a longtime reputable company has such inconsistent paper and poor customer service. boo! :(
Off topic but my "buy every year" Blue Sky has changed too. Bleed thru with mild liners and the smudge is unreal. Dot markers go thru 2 pages. It's infuriating.
I hate to hear this about Blue Sky. It was my go-to for 10 years, then I got tired of the spiral binding on the one I used, so I switched to Moleskine. I like the Moleskines for my use - I use ball point pen, not fountain pen or markers, so my experiences are limited to that type of ink.
Oh my goodness- Blue Sky. I had a great wire bound weekly I think (for work) years ago and recently bought a small one for my daughter for assignment management for college and she hated it. she said the same thing. using highlighters and her gel pen made it impossible for her. Boo! I hope you find something better!
I absolutely detest writing on my A5 moleskin I purchased last year. The bleed through is bad, even with a gel pen.
right? So disappointing. Such a well known company and such inconsistency.
Maybe you got a knock off? Not knowing, there are some sellers that do that. Just a thought?
I ordered directly from Moleskine. Which is why I was upset by the quality. The one I ordered from Amazon recently is the one that is better quality.
It’s a shame because they are very expensive.
This is wild to me. You can't figure out what quality you have til after you've bought it? And it all costs the same? Make it make sense.

My 2023 was great until May when the paper changed. Same tomboy colors and pens spread and bled. Very disappointing.
oh my goodness, I would have DIED!!! if the paper suddenly changes mid planner.... I hope that doesn't happen to me. I took a page from the back to test and didnt even think about possible mid quality changes.... eek!
My pocket moleskine in 2023 was garbage. I stopped using it and picked up a stalogy as a quick fix. My pens and markers were bleeding through. I have some very old pre 2015 moleskine notebooks that are really good. I won’t continue to support moleskine until they fix and admit this is an issue.
I am really interested in other pocket size(ish) dailies. I know a little about the Leuch...(you know the one- I can never spell it or pronounce it! lol) my local bookstore carries them and my book lady always tries to turn me to the Leuch side and far far away from moleskine. she won't even carry moleskine anymore. I am not familiar with a lot of the different brands because I am a creature of habit. my rings has been my life for 30year and the daily pocket just a recent addition. but I should play around with some this year to figure out what 2025 will look like for me.
@@MyMoxieDreams the leuchtterm a6 is such a great size since it’s the width of pocket and height of a6. It fits in so many pocket leather covers. I had a choice between the moleskine and leuchtterm and I sadly chose wrong 😂. I’d be interested in seeing it on your channel if moleskine continues to make inconsistent products. The book lady sounds like she’s been burned too many times.

right?! what's a bummer is this is really the only place I jump into the decorative artsy space. finding a beautiful theme and then digging through my tomboys to find the right color, create a sticker..etc and then to have crappy paper. such a bummer. we will see what next year's plan will be. so many recommending the Leuch.....I can't say it or spell it but I think you know which one I mean. That's insane surely they should ALL be the same!! Imagine if you didn't know and you just thought that's how it is.. A company should never be so successful they don't care if you're happy with their product or not. How BIZZARE!! I'd definitely be ordering from amazon IF I get one!! Thank you for this video!! 🫶🏻

@@MyMoxieDreams I'm looking at getting one as a journal.. I'm a bit all over the place with decisions. I FINALLY found a planner peace using a scribbles that matter B6 as a bullet journal, I'm a fan of whiter papers.. and now they've gone and discontinued it..!! Feels like you can't trust anyone........!! I'm truly glad you were able to get another, but sad at your experience, time and money waisted!! 🫶🏻 And thank you again for drawing this to my attention!! I was already worried about the 70gsm and thars what's putting me off of Leuchtturm.. But paper that resists pens..!! Surely some kind of oxymoron!
