  • Finally got my scope mounted on my 303 British Lee Enfield Number 4 Mark 1 with the Bad Ace Tactical Scope Mount and Leupold VX Freedom 3-9 x 40 Scope. Took it out to get it sighted in. It was a little frustrating but the end result was acceptable.
    We shot Sellier & Bellot 180 Grain Full Metal Jackets and 180 Grain Soft Points as well as PPU 150 Grain Soft Points.
    Thanks for watching!

    I learnt my lesson on scope mounts 20 yrs ago if it isn't adjusting as expected then check your scope mounts even if it means retorquing mounts in the field 90% its that then 10% scope 0% ammo.

    I had this problem with my no4 mk1 enfield. Gunsmith told me last 4” of barrel were wore out. He cut 4” off and crowned the barrel for me. It shot decent groups after that.

    303 are zeroed at 200 yes. Expect high shots at closer range. 393 does not have wondering zeros. You barrel may be worn out.

    i always found lead bullets were more accurate than full metal jacket rounds. i used to shoot 180 grain soft point then my buddy handloaded some 165 grain for it. price of ammo now a day it gets very expensive

    The only reason I can think of it shooting that high inconsistently, is the height over bore of the scope. It might help to take it to a flat 100 yard range, and see if you can remedy the issue there.
    Besides that keep up the Great work!

      I agree. Not sure if I can get it much lower though. Great suggestion on going to a flat 100 yard range. We need to do that for sure. Thanks for watching!

    i have one that is sporterized as well, 20 inch barrel and a boyds stock that i put on, i used the Addley precision scope mount which is very solid. the other thing i did was reface the barrel end and recrowned it with an 11 degree crown, i shoot 150 gr PPU at 100yrds with just inside a 1 inch group, the rifle is a savage made #4 mk1 * with a 2 groove barrel. i personally did not sporterize it they were barreled actions sitting in the corner of a pawn shop i got both for 150.00. the other rifle i setup the same way and both shoot great.

    Great video. Like your easy-going style. My unaltered No4 also had its own quirks. Seems my problem was bedding. I watched a few TH-cam videos to get much more consistency. I used part of a linseed oil soaked heavy duty paper towel.

      Have to agree with Steve. I sporterized a "Junk Gun" in a composite stock. I had some problems with it jumping all over. A little attention to the bedding with some Acuglass solved the issue.

    When I sight in a scope. I always run a bore snake through after every round and let the barrell cool for about 3 minutes between shots. I have several Leupold scopes as well as a Nikon and Vortex. My favorite is the Leupold. I have never had any issues and they hold their zero perfectly. I would imagine that the Sellier and Bellot ammo was loaded inconsistantly and that could have caused the inaccurate points of impact.

      I think it may have something to do with how the Scope mount was attached to the rifle. It's probably canted such that I had to max out the reticle to the bottom. Not really an issue now since on subsequent range trips, it was zeroed at 100 yards.

  • @liquidrockaquatics3900
    @liquidrockaquatics3900 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I know this is older, but I think your magazine problem is the spring, but can also happen with damage to the magazine. Also lubricate your bolt in a little rails that it slides on. My 303 is my baby and I love it; the only thing I don’t love is finding ammunition and the price. Mine is a number for Mark one British.

    I've noticed that the ejection of the spent cases on Lee-Enfield rifles is much weaker than equivalent bolt action guns from the same era e.g Mosin, Mauser etc...
    The brass just barely makes it away from the action...

      These retaining wires can be hard to remove, so use as much muscle as you need to get it out. You won't be reusing it anyway. I removed mine with a combination of hammer, steel punch and molegrips. The gun itself needs to be held securely during this removal process.

    • @gotpsp06
      @gotpsp06 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The wire has started to rivet and now looking like a nail head, didn't want to damage it any further. It's now wedge shaped and the punch slides off and scratches off the black coat, local gun shop has another store next town over to smith it out.

Not sure how much I can trust it though, but I want to! I filmed the shooting but didnt get the target on film so havent posted the video for that reason. I want to take it deer hunting with the scope on it. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience!

    Why do you have your camera in mirror image at the start? Everything is reversed as you are showing off the backwards scope mount, bolt and safety backwards.... At least when you got to the shooting area the image returned to normal.
    I'd try to zero at 100 yards. You have simple options to either "shim" the scope rail or "Mill" scope rail and scope base true flat or even mill the rail slightly to give an angle. See a machinist or good gunsmith.
