@romedog29 The parts are Romanian while the stock itself most likely polish or Bulgarian or something. The receiver itself is American made and accommodates the stock along with a rear trunion for the underfolder stock. From what I can tell the design is pretty similar in most if not all AK's with that type of stock even the Chinese Norincos. The design seems to be originally taken from the German MP40 anyways.
great info as im demilling an underfolder just like the one herei wasn't sure yet how it comes apart but I have all the rivets drilled out so once I get it out I can remove the old torch cut receiver and fit the trunion to my self made receiver then re assemble by reversing the procedure you show here thanks for a really good video. I finished an ak pistol build and now for an underfolder rifle build
@Wangan300 Your stock options are pretty much fixed depending on what sort of trunnion you have. You could change the trunnion but it takes a lot of work and if you go from an underfolder one to a fixed stock you'll have those holes in the sides of the receivers.
Every correct factory produced double locking underfolder AK comes with two holes under the underfolder mechanism. These holes are there for removal of both internal pins. There never was a factory produced folder for a left handed firer. For the underfolder mechanism to be installed backwards the receiver and trunnion would have to be notched out on the left hand side for the anti-rotation pin. Doing this would also put the rear sling swivel on the opposite side of the front swivel.
@parteepro This is a real AK...the stock design is pretty universal and has been used since WWII with the German MP38/40 design which the Russians borrowed. I've never looked at an Airsoft AK underfolder but It wouldn't surprise me if they were similar if not the same.
This video was a lifesaver, I bought a barreled receiver and the stock was installed, but the grip was not. I could not fit the grip screw plate in there for the life of me, so I had to uninstall the stock.
I've noticed there are two types of undergoing stocks. One with a lock on the inside to the button, whick has only the locking but. A second type the same with a second locking device that covers the outside of the locking nut.
I think the smallest punch I've ever really used was like 1/16". I'd search for punch sets so you get some different types. Ebay usually helps to narrow things down with the use of categories at least.Try to get some hardened ones so they'll last longer.
I don't think it would go on well without the stock. If you didn't want the folding stock on it you could leave it off altogether and find some way to plug up the holes on the side of the receiver such as some nuts, bolts and washers maybe. Putting on a fixed stock would require a trunion replacement which would be a considerable amount of work.
Was knocking out second pin with a Harbor Freight punch. It went in, bent and broke off like a wet spaghetti noodle and got wedge next to the pin. Had to drill out a hole on the locking nut. I thought I could drill out the cheap punch but it decided to turn into tool steel and my tungsten drill bits wouldn’t scratch it. Don’t make the same mistake I did, buy good punches.
excellent video. thanks for the post. very familiar with ak's and how to work on them, but have never removed an under folder stock. just got my tax stamp in on under folder and wanted to refinish it, but needed to remove stock. well done sir.
Three key points to take note of using this video. Be very careful mounting your stamped receiver in a vice like that. You could crush it and screw up the geometry pretty easily. Next is you are using both cheap and punches that aren't the right size for the job. Only use USA made punches because they are made of good steel and heat treated properly. Trying to save a few bucks can turn into hours of work when one of those cheap imports decide to break off inside the hole. Lastly that line or "punched notch" over the hole is "staked" and you drove the pin out the opposite way it should have been. When driving out pins always drive them out the opposite side as the staked end. Doing it in reverse will make the work twice as hard and possibly cause damage both to the punch and or part. Also unless you are performing a repair, building a kit or blasting/refinishing the rifle or under folder stock there is no reason to be repeatedly be taking it out and putting it back together all willy-nilly. You will wear out parts and ruin stuff doing so on a regular basis. How many times do you remove the buffer tube and hardware on your AR15? Definitely not for regular cleaning and lubrication purposes. There you go....
Any hardware store will do. Of course not all punches are made equal. You can get a good price at Harbor Freight for example, but they'll probably bend easily. Roll pin punches are a little harder to come by so they may need special ordering. If all else fails find what you need on the internet.
My receiver had only one hole in the bottom of it. My receiver is American made by the way. The hole in the bottom is for removing just one of the pins. When I got this AK the pieces were flipped around so the sling swivel was better suited for a left handed shooter. I had to drill a hole in the receiver to knock out that pin which would normally be lined up with the factory cut hole. I was obviously the only one to ever remove the stock after it was installed that way.
You would probably need to change out the rear trunnion which would involve a lot of work to do properly. You need to remove the old pins and trunnion and put a new turnnion in with a heavy press to properly put the new pins in.
@TheNopedawg Just about everyone I've heard of has some play in their stock. Tightening the locking lugs could help but there is only so much you can tighten it. The locking lugs could be worn out a little or the holes in the receiver could be. I don't think you can ever make an underfolder, "Rock solid".
If by fixed stock you mean a traditional wooden stock then no because you would have to change the trunion out and you'd have big holes in the sides of the receiver where the folding stock parts went. You'd be better off buying a new AK at that point. If you wanted to make the folding stock fixed you probably could but it would probably require some spot welding to stop things from moving.
skotzo .... THANK YOU I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A UNDER FOLDER REPLACEMENT OPTION.. FOR A WHILE... EVERYONE SAID IT'S POSSIBLE BUT NOTHING WOULD COVER UP THE HOLES..THANKYOU MUCH... IM GOING TO LOOK INTO THIS..
HI guys. I am left handed. Can i change the side of my buton for floding stock, from left to right. This way i would have sling atachemnt on proper side for me. Thx for nice video and help!
I am going to help a friend put a collapsible stock on his in place of his under fold stock. would you have any suggestions on that or maybe a video? P.S. this video was great and when we do this I guess I should make a video. on it.
My Romanian underfolder has a slightly different mechanism. It doesn't have the outside locking sleeve. But the procedure is the same. Although my locking nut is frozen in place 😂 just spent a good hour and half trying to get it to move, and I can't... ugh..
Thanks for that video. Do you know if tightening the slide locking nut will take care of play in the stock when extended? Is there a way to tighten that nut by only taking out the pin inside of it, or do I need to remove additional hardware before attempting to tighten. Thanks.
Now can you add a different stock to it or are the underfolder models pretty much stuck with that stock? I want to add a different stock to mine that absorbs a bit more recoil and I want to make it a bit more comfortable to fire.
From my experience the Yugo AK's are dissimilar to other AK's regarding a lot of things, So I couldn't say it would work without physically trying it. It would be interesting to find out though, but I'm leaning towards it not working.
I have this exact underfolder style stock wasr 10. I was wondering if I could just remove it. Then put back on all the parts properly except the underfolder stock. Will everything fit snug, will it be loose and won't work, or will their just be a little gap where the underfolder used to be?
It's built off a Romanian G kit on a Armory USA receiver, but I can't advise who assembled it. The trigger guard by the magazine release has 2 rivets on each side though.
black1705f - hey man. very helpful video. but once you have this all uninstalled how would you go about installing a different stock? for example a fixed stock like the one most ak47s come with. Im trying to help out a friend of mine. thanks.
NorthTxInfidel you would need to replace the entire rear trunion in order to switch to a fixed stock. That would require a lot of work and someone with the right tools and know how. Not something easily attempted. AK's aren't as easy to change around like an AR.
I prefer to use the internet, since it saves time from going to hardware stores and searching, but I don't know what exactly to search for. A search for "punches" doesn't turn up many accurate results.
what type of ak is this, from what i understand a few different countries make an underfolder. just wondering if there all the same in "removal" of the stock
I'm just going to measure and drill. Hehe🙁. My side pin was a B**** to knock free. I went though 3 packs of roll punches. What a pain. I must be doing something wrong here. I'll report back once I drill the bottom to free the other pins loose. I'm almost thinking of trading this for a fixed.
I have a question probably pretty dumb question but I need an answer lol I bought a ak 47 of a friend with the underfold stock ...I don't really like the underfold stock i wanted to install a magpul one but seems like I won't be able to any suggestions on how I could modify this to install a regular stock? ?? Thanks in advance ppl
They left the pin out so I had to get a third one. It still worked with 2 pins and it didn't have too much movement, but I figure it would be a good idea to get the third one. Damn lefties
Thanks but aside from looking like an idiot.... I'd like to see the reverse order. For some reason I'm having a bitch of a time putting it back together. Dunno what the hell the problem is.
+Kyle Milan It would take some considerable work. You would need to remove the rear trunion and replace it with a fixed stock rear trunion. To do all that you'd have to knock out the rivets switch out the trunion and add new rivets which usually takes a heavy press to push in. Then you'd possibly need to refinish the paint job.
+black1705f +Kyle Milan Just an update, here's an adapter to convert to a commercial spec carbine stock. Just ordered one today and will do the install as soon as it arrives. www.primaryarms.com/akufsa/p/akufsa/
+black1705f Tracking shows it arriving on Monday. I'll put it together on Tuesday. I've never made a how-to TH-cam video before, but I'll give it a go and share if it turns out.
Those pins would not come out for me, wrecked a bunch of punches, but this video showed me I was headed in the right direction. Thanks.
I'm doing my first underfolder build a n pap and your instructions were very helpful! Thanks
Well done! Best comment is the fact that the pins only fit going in one direction on two of the pins. The middle pin goes in the easiest.
@romedog29 The parts are Romanian while the stock itself most likely polish or Bulgarian or something. Nice video, just remember that all the pins that you take out are one direction meaning that the holes are bigger on one side then the other
Thank you for this video, Ill be needing this info later this month as I want to get my yugo cerakoted and this was the one thing holding me back.
Every correct factory produced double locking underfolder AK comes with two holes under the underfolder mechanism. These holes are there for removal of both internal pins. From what I can tell the slide fire stock is made for stamped receivers with solid stocks.
I've noticed there are two types of undergoing stocks. One with a lock on the inside to the button, whick has only the locking but. A second type the same with a second locking device that covers the outside of the locking nut.

@black1705f I just bought a wasr 10 rifle today that has an absolutely rock solid underfolder stock.
Can you put it back together so the button and sling mount is on other side for a left handed person.
Perfect. Just what I was looking for. Thanks for posting!

Thanx so much man! Converting my yugo uf to lefty and the gun store said it would be a nightmare. Not at all!

So lets say you wanna keep the underfold off is their just a big whole in your firearm now or is their aome sort of plug? Pls lmk
Great demo !

Was it hard to install the m4 adapter??
Not at all, its nearly impossible to mess up. However you still have a hole in the side of your receiver where the old mechanism was

really useful video...
Did they notch the left side for the anti-rotation pin or did they just leave the pin out?
I have this exact underfolder style stock wasr 10. I was wondering if I could just remove it. Then put back on all the parts properly except the underfolder stock.
Will everything fit snug, will it be loose and won't work, or will their just be a little gap where the underfolder used to be?
The trigger guard on your receiver looks odd, they typically have 4 rivets, two on each side...What model (brand) is your AKMS?
It's built off a Romanian G kit on a Armory USA receiver, but I can't advise who assembled it. The trigger guard by the magazine release has 2 rivets on each side though.

so can I put a wood stock on a underfold ?????
Would I be able to add a fixed stock to my yugo under folder? Or will I need to purchase a new receiver?
black1705f, I know this is a basic question, but where do you buy those punches at?
Do they sell aftermarket stocks that will fit the under folder aks?
is this an airsoft version because i was looking for that and if so is it the same
Quick question .. My receiver does not have the two holes underneath . Am I screwed ?

Can a bump fire stock be added to that flat back AK? I have that exact Romarm and I wanted to buy the SSAK 47 bumpfire stock.
So can you turn a folder into a fixed stock?
great how to
hi do you know if I would be able to install an underfolder on an sks?

Look up online underfolder to fixed stock adapter.

Would these same steps work with a Yugo M70AB2?

Ill let you know in a few days.

To my knowledge only fixed stocks are compatible with the Slide Fire
