Finally a good video on how to do this. Everyone else either shows you on a worn out spring that requires almost no effort or they show some overly complicated bs using a drill press or something. Thank you.
This video has helped so many people over the years, thanks again in 2022! Took it out in a second but man... putting it back is a different story. "It may take you a couple of tries" - haha took me freakin 45 minutes.
Dang, I had tried to remove my rear sight before and gave up. I thought it was impossible. Thanks for showing this in close up and great lighting! I could see everything.
Best video on you tube for this. Looked at others especially for putting on Texas Weapons system 'dog leg' rail. Screwed around for 30 min. with the others and this nailed it in 10 sec. with no 'special' tools like a custom dremelled dowl rod. This is what makes the internet and especially TH-cam such a revolution since I was a kid.
Still useful information in 2024!! Thanks! After much frustration, I thought I was going to have to go to a gunsmith. I was told "just pop it off". Thank you for showing and explaining HOW to "just pop it off".😊 Also how to "just snap it back in".😵💫
You are very welcome! I am very happy I could help you out. I always try hard to cover everything really well with quality angles and lighting. I work hard and I appreciate comments like this. That's why I do it! Thanks!!
Dude, the screwdriver trick was genius. I usually just rip my fingers up pushing it out, didn’t feel like doing that again today…. Found this video and it worked ridiculously easy. Thanks man!
Honestly i did not expected this to work. My AKM-47 airsoft replica fell on the ground and the sigths ended up flying through the room. Thanks to this video I manage to put them back in.
You have no idea how helpful this video is. It took me one hour to figure out what I was doing then I watched your video. 30 seconds I had it replaced. Very very informative video. Thank you.
Thanks For the info, I'm adding a top rail over the dust cover which clips into the leaf spring part of the back sight. Couldn't have done it without you.
Yeah that was actually awesome, I didn't have to sit through sponsors and a half hour explaining why you needed to change the sights. It's been a while since I've had to mess with them and the whole process took about 2 1/2 minutes including watching the video lol appreciate the help. Also I was gonna say I can't believe that got through century QC but then again, I absolutely can 😂
My Mauser Kar98k rear sight was not coming off since the pin was fixed to the rear sights. Almost all Kar98k rear sights are removed by tapping out the the pin. I tried your method on the Mauser and it slid off perfectly without damaging the gun. Although it is for a different rifle, thank you for helping me with the Mauser rear sight removal :-)
Your tap and rap method is much easier than the old push and twist method I was taught. I agree with using a catch cloth or box and anyone who has spent 20 merry minutes looking for a part that has shot across the room will understand why.
Thank you very much! I just picked up my first AK yesterday (Cugir WS1-63) and the previous owner had replaced the rear sight with a mount for a red dot. I'm planning to go with the side rail for that, so I wanted to swap it back to the irons first and get some trigger time with the stock gun before moving on to optics (if you can even call it stock, it already came with the Magpul Zhukov furniture, an ALG trigger and the Krebs style safety, all the mods I had been planning to put on my AK anyway, score XD). I struggled a bit with this (although I have done the same on a K98 a while ago and it appears the two sights are quite similar) and your video helped out a lot. Thanks again! Greetings from Germany :)
Funny enough, I ended up on this video again. This time in order to remove a rear sight from my second AK (Saiga M5 in 5.45x39) in order to put on a TWS top cover mount instead. Once again thank you very much for this very helpful video! :)
Thank You: It was Great that your Video Popped Up First when i Typed in "Remove Ak Front Sight", Because I've been in the garage for 20 mins Pressing Down on the Front of the Spring and Swearing a LOT !!! Thanks Again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Tiny Out)
i got the rear sight out by myself no problem, but i was having alot of trouble getting my new one in. i wasn't doing anything different than the video, but i guess i just had to put a little extra elbow grease into it and it finally went in.
Thank You SOOO!! Much!! Now with trifocals need to put on glow halo sights front and rear, no need for red dot or scope iron work great deer/pig hunting in the thick woods.
This helped me so much, it was hard making me think what to do with the Yugo sight, but this showed me that you DO just have to beat it, since it's really that tough, and you won't break it. Good idea with the rag! Helped me a ton. :D
Having trouble re-assembling the upper hand guard. During disassembly the lock lever wouldn’t budge and I had to force it up to remove the upper hand guard. Now it seems to be hitting the rear of the gas tube during re-assembly and will not close properly. Any suggestions that I might try before taking it to a gunsmith?
You made that look relatively easy, :) I'm thinking about installing a KNS ghost ring on my VSKA and I can almost bet it wont be this easy to install. LOL
I've just bought my used vska draco pistol and noticed my rear sight is crooked to the left.. could I just take it out then put back in to hopefully line it up?? Or is there adjustments I'm just not seeing?
i got an ak47 aswell and one time when i tried to put the piece down i put it down in a weird way and the sight broke or something now i dont know how to put it back, i tried everything. anyone got any recommendations?
Thanks nsz85, great easy-to-follow instructional video, good lighting and well focused. Funny intro, got quite a chuckle... (is that movie actor Dana Andrews' grandson? spittin' image)
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for showing this EASY way to take off the rear sight. Too many times helpful people like you don't get the recognition they deserve for taking the time to help out us AK-philes. By the way: did I say thank you! ;-)
thanks very helpful.. i do have another issue with my rom. wasr 10 the lever for my gas tube and top hand gaurd is very tight i have to use a pliers to flip it up and a hammer to get it back down.. once it clears the block its fine.. what do i do
the bolt carrier is the tool. take the piston out look on the right side near the bottom of the bolt it has a little channel in it. its fits over the gas tube handle perfectly. use the piston for leverage and swing it up it will take little to no effort
Its simpler than that...Just lift the sight straight up. Take the screwdriver tool from the tool kit that is in the stock and push down on the spring. Twist the sight out. Reverse to put back in. You don't need a rag.
11 years later and a huge help. Thank you (if you see this)!
Still helping people in 2023, awesome thanks!

I am very happy that I was able to help. Thank you for watching :)
This was the fastest easiest video I've seen to remove the front sight. I wish I saw this when I was installing my Aterro Arms mount 😅
Yeah, it can be hard to get that spring pushed down. I am glad my video was helpful! Thank you!
You are very welcome! I am very happy you found it helpful. That is why I make these videos, is to help people :)
Yo!
I just used your method, and my rear sight yeeted itself ACROSS the garage and impacted the wall, lol 😂😂
But hey, it worked! Thanks for the vid!
You are very welcome! I am glad I could help, comrade
Thank you Sir!
That was a super concise and well explained operation. Great video, again thanks for sharing.

Thanks For the info, I'm adding a top rail over the dust cover which clips into the leaf spring part of the back sight. Couldn't have done it without you.
Happy to help!
Thank You Sir, I for One just vacated my AK47 Romy's Sight with your Help and Confidence inspiring video!
Best demonstration of Rear Sight Removal……thanks.
You are the Bob Vila Of AK maintenance! Really helpful! Thanks much 👍
Thank you sir this was by far the easiest way to do it

Haha thank you. I appreciate that. Ebomey is a great guy and a great friend.
Your tap and rap method is much easier than the old push and twist method I was taught.

How is you read my mind every time I need to do something on my ak you put the vid up that day
Another quality product from CAI.
That was way better than how Texas Weapons Systems was showing to do it. Thank you!
THANK YOU! Just swapped out the broken sights on my AK. Very helpful video!
Thank you very much!

F/A brother thank you for making life a lot more simple, I was ready to toss the F^%king sights thanks again
Thank You SOOO!! Much!! Now with trifocals need to put on glow halo sights front and rear, no need for red dot or scope iron work great deer/pig hunting in the thick woods.
That appears to be an RPK style rear sight that can be adjustable for windage. Pull it out, turn it, put it back in.
nice job.. I was fighting with my rear sight until your video. thanks man
Thanks this helped me a lot putting on my KNS rear sight.
Thank you!! Started sweating once I couldn't get mine on. Awesome quality video
You seriously deserve more views! Your videos are GREAT!!!
Best AK rear sight removal video ever made! Plus....you've got ebomey's endorsement, i knew it had to be good.
I am glad it helped!

Great video my rear sight on my yugo m70 AB2 is crooked. It's not aligned and seems pushed to the right.
Nice! I am glad you found it helpful :)
I just changed mine! Thank you for this vid!
Saved me a trip to the gunsmith.
Good camera work and good lighting .
Eugene Onegin Thanks!
Thanks for the advice. Also worked on my Toz 17-01 22lr rifle!
Omg! Thank you so much. I understood how it came off I just didn’t know a good way to do it. Popped right off for me! Life saver!
Thanks nsz85, great easy-to-follow instructional video, good lighting and well focused. Funny intro, got quite a chuckle... (is that movie actor Dana Andrews' grandson? spittin' image)
I have to say, you consistently have the best no bullshit install videos! Keep it up my friend!
Thank you, I think so too! :)

+Jim Toots You are welcome!

So helpful. You’re the goat.
I was gonna say you're full of crap when you said "just hit it", but I tried it and it works. Greatly appreciate the video!
Thanks for the video. I considering installing a red dot sight. was wondering how hard removal would be.
Thanks for the video, I had it all wrong. Good to go now!
While changing the rear sight why didn't you update the sight with one from an RPK so you could adjust for windage?
Thank You for making this video.
C.I.A. never ceases to amaze me. Do they have any QC? AT ALL!
Hey nsz could you make a video on removing a stubborn Ak slant brake?
Thank you good sir, now I can change my asg ak 47 sight for something else.
The removal method was spot on, thanks.
Now just to get M+M industries to honor warranty support on a broken RPK rear sight...dirt bags.
I put those on mine real nice. When i took the old sight off it shot across the room took me 20 min. too find it.
useful
Great vid. Upgraded my sights to a GG&G ghost ring.
How to install a rear sight for a mosin nagant 91/30 bolt action rifle.Thank you.
