Here's the good news. That place is going to be AMAZING when you get it all done. That place is a jewel in the rough!
Here's the bad news. This is a yearly job. Though a good paint job on the concrete will make it easier. However, every fall you'll need to drain the pool a little, and cover it to prevent as many leaves as possible or other debris from getting in. Then pump it to dry, clean it, paint it, then fill it. Draining the pool completely isn't necessarily advisable, because if there is any water behind the concrete it will freeze and push on the concrete causing damage to the pool.
You'll want to make sure your drain at the bottom is clear as well. That drain can help remove water through the main pool pump. If it isn't, you could foul up your pump, which is an expensive mistake. Do not use the pool pump to drain the pool in the spring unless your pool is completely free of debris.
Muriatic acid is your friend for cleaning a pool, but seriously dangerous stuff. You absolutely need to clean the concrete with it before you paint, otherwise the mildew and mold will prevent the paint from adhering to the concrete.
@@LTBudd yeah but they'll also get many hours of fun every year. Depends on how you look at it
Diamond in the rough - agreed. What a fantastic view
@@JosephineJames-x7b That's a billion dollar view. That place calls for a roof deck.
It was a multi million dollar run down property, good business decision with the content aspect.
I didn't truly realize the scale of the pool until this episode. This is a PARTY POOL...so many people could be in there. It's huge! Can't wait to see it all cleaned up.
It looks like it could be a 20’ x 40’ pool or even bigger. It’s big.
The editing bit while you both were waiting for the pool to drain is so good lol
Haha it made me laugh, too. So good
that was so funny lol
Ferris Bueller in the museum vibes
😂😂😂so cute!
I was going to write the same thing, really thank you for this cinematic moment guys 😂
They’ll need some pool professionals, but that’s doable. They are tackling some gnarly jobs. This is the only channel I watch that is deadpan awkward humor and I really like it.
I think Jennele Aliana has the same style of humor :) she's also doing renos in her back yard. But it's been a long time since she's posted
Love how Nick’s “frustration” was calm and collected 😂
Right? My husbands frustration is significantly more .....verbal ..... Words are said.
My husband would have had to not be in hearing range or this would be demonetized lmao
Right?! Nick acted like an emotional adult. He also managed verbalize his frustration clearly and coherently. Seems like a rare trait for people nowadays, he is a good person!
Look for a partner and friends who have this trait too, and of course never forget to look in the mirror at yourself :P we might not always be aware of our own actions.
But it will make you more respected and you will get more done from others too.
Throwing tantrums are for children, or emotionally immature adults. And the responses for your environment will be less inclined to help or even take you serious enough to be wanting to help. In worst case you get help only because people are scared of you.
The day that you have it filled with water, test the water & take the first plunge will be the best reward for all your hard work on the pool. You are almost there!
14:49 You guys should consider power blasting that drain &/or getting a plumber out to clear the drain so you don’t end up with a brackish pond in the pool again.
great point!!
The drain only drains when the pool pump sucks the water out and through the filter. Whether the pump works, or if it can pull enough head pressure to prime is another question.
They need a trash water pump. A sanitary pump might also work, but doesn't have a long enough cord to be safe
@@johnhaller5851 Pool plumbing usually has a valve to drain the pool. Pool pumps have a easily accessible place to prime them, but most of them are self priming. There main problem would be getting power to the pool pump because the house power is FUBAR. I totally agree on the trash water pump.
@@jasonGreenVw Yes, but it's after the pump. In my case, it's at the bottom of the cartridge filter, but sand or diatomaceous earth filters have a special valve to control backwash or drain. Most pools don't have a slope to allow gravity to drain the pool through a valve below the level of the main drain. The pump and filter are always above the water level of the pool so it doesn't drain while servicing the pump or filter. They could get a test ball with a water insertion to backwash the main drain into the pool. Unfortunately, that pool is so old that the main drain doesn't have two drains to prevent someone from getting stuck to the drain. It's probably also of an age that they used copper lines, which may have developed leaks from corrosion from chlorine, salt, or improper pH. But I've got PVC pipes, which also have a leak, so 🤷♂️
@@johnhaller5851 I dealt with a pool about the same age and it had PVC. Maybe not all setups have a way to bypass the filter for draining.
As an adult of a "certain age", I find watching these two endlessly entertaining. I am also in awe of their energy and endless enthusiasm. Never have I seen two people accomplish so much using so few tools to assist in their efforts. Bravo, guys, go team!
I don't even want to know what it'll cost to reglaze, retile and get the drain, pumps, filter, heater working. But it's looking good. What an awesome property.
An absolutely crazy number but at the same time? I feel like worth it
I'm surprised they're getting into it, before the big projects/expenses on the house itself are tackled. Roof, electricity, plumbing, insulation...some of it they will probably have to hire professionals for.
Although maybe they're waiting for professionals to fit them into their calendar and passing the time this way.
@@BCthingdefinitely worth it it such a pretty house
@@raraavis7782yeah they said in the last video they are waiting for all the paperwork for the house stuff so they are doing what they can to the outside in the meantime
They are at a standstill w the contractors for the inside. So outside work it is!
So, I've been watching you guys since the start of this renovation. My little guy, 4 years old, saw me watching your video one day and started asking to watch them along with me. Of course I told him he could, and we've been watching you guys together ever since! He even asks to rewatch them on his own time lol.
Anyway, the pool looks unreal compared to what it was, you guys are doin great! Thanks for the bonding content with my kiddo lol 🤍
That's so cute!
The way you edit your videos and your sense of humour is literally my favourite part of everything don’t get me wrong watching the renovations is addicting but your humour makes it all worthwhile
I literally laughed out loud at the “patiently waiting” jump cuts from different angles! To maintain a sense of humor and be thinking about filming/editing while dealing with this monumental task is amazing.
I 💞 your abandoned house videos. I know it's not your original content, but I am really enjoying it. Especially since I live nearby 🏡 it's cool to see when I recognize where you are 🌷❤️
Looks like Horseshoe to me.
Buying the power washer is going to be something you’re so thankful for in the future!
Robot to clean salt water pool system easy as pie! No maintenance during the season. Considering you have a flat roof you could use solar heating for the pool. Extend the season by months and it’s free energy
Okay I need 2 episodes a week please. I’m addicted to watching this series!
The abandoned pool is in amazing shape considering it's been neglected so long!!! Great work!!!🎉🏊🏊
I. Am. Shocked. I. Tell. You. It's dreamy!
I love your music choices. They sound like songs that may have been played when the house was young.
@jennaphipps Does anyone know the name of the song being played; beginning at 17:00 (ish)?? It's such a pretty, mellow song. A perfect choice for watching Jenna & Nick power washing inside the pool. 🌞
@@dee9994 Be the cat - Kylie Dailey :))
@@mardv03 Thank you so much. 🙂
Guys let's get Jenna to a million subscribers by the end of this year!
Let’s not 😊
It’ll happen organically. This project is a dream!
I don’t think it will take to the end of the year. The growth of the channel has been faster in the last couple of months. Keep up the good work Jenna, you’ve got a great channel.
It will be way faster than that. Million by end of next month
@@thomastimothy777what' s wrong with you???!!!!
That pool looks a 1000 times better than it was. I can't believe just how clean you got it. Well done you two.
That Wheelbarrow has been worth every cent. Love watching these videos. ❣
and the trash can!😄
I’ve not seen it yet. ???
u two are so darling! what a fun thing to do. re create an old home. My hubby and i have remodeled a 100 yr old house. we have built about 12 cabins. its so fun. now hes blind and i have bad knees. so we keep up our tiny home. hes 75 and me 72. we sure had the time of our life doing just what u two are doing...although we never took on as big of a project as yours. this home u have is going to be beautiful.
It's so satisfying seeing that gunk finally lift from the pool 🤌✨️
The before and afters are sooo satisfying ugh. But seeing how much LOVE is being put into this home? It fills my soul!!!
If anyone ever asks me to perfectly describe my sense of humor, I'm gonna show them the absolute cinematic masterpiece that is Jenna and Nick looking at the draining water from multiple different sides.
I admit, I also LMAO in that bit!
I loved this
Very Wes Anderson vibes. 😂
I cackled at that. It was so funny
Your persistence and hard work has paid off beautifully!!! No more swampland!!!
Loved the still shots of you and Nick standing by the pool from multiple angles and your names for your parents and family friend. Brilliant!
I admire your dedication to getting this special house back to it’s original glory. All the best 💞
Man I hope Jenna keeps the pool as a pool, cuz it is already looking amazing.
Great progress you two! My parents had a pool, so here's my 2 cents. Please make certain the wiring for the pool lights is good to avoid electrocution. Once things progress, pressure wash the concrete decking and paint it with cool decking. I checked Google and it's available in Canada. It stops your tootsies from burning when barefoot around the pool. Such fun watching you guys ❤
I am continually amazed at how hard you guys work! This is some back breaking stuff but ya’ll just keep going! I bet it will feel really satisfying sitting in your finished home looking around and knowing you put all this work into it
That view of the water is stellar... what a good score that place is. A little polish and maybe a new roof and your set. lol
And an entirely re-ferbed interior now that it has been completely gutted to the studs.
Power washing that pool must be so satisfying. This is quickly becoming my new favorite renovation channel on TH-cam
Grew up with a pool like this the first thing I will tell you is if you are keeping the pool light check all electrical to it so you don’t get electrocuted!!!!!
I’m here for this whole renovation
How many people does it take to empty the pool. Many 😂
We purchased a foreclosure home that had a pool that was 3/4 filled with water and had tons of frogs in it. 🐸 It really stunk! It had chicken wire across the top of it with a bunch of wood, holding it in place in case anybody decided to jump in the pool. It had many frog skeletons on the bottom of the pool. 🤢 Our pool was oval like a half egg so it was easy to fall into it which happened many times. It’s good that we can laugh at it now. It turned out great! Thank you, Jenna. This is great. The views from your backyard is magnificent. ❤
That is one huge pool and you've done an outstanding job!!! Your tenacity is admirable and you're gonna have one heck of a beautiful pool when it's finished. Thanks for taking me along!
That view is therapy.
You are so brave! The pool looked like toxic soup but you did it and it looks amazing! Such a timeless beauty, a gem in the rough! It was obvious that the original owners built a gorgeous "modern" home that over decades was sadly neglected but is now feeling the love and appreciation it deserves! Can't wait to see this gem of a home when you are finished!
Your videos always make me feel like I need to be working on my midmod restoration. Been working on it for a few years but it's hard to get motivated after the 9-5 to do then do manual labor. These videos help every time!
I feel the same. Then I realize I am at least 30 yrs older than them and I also take care of my elderly mother after work too. I don't even want to restore, just purge and paint. 🥴
Holy cow! I NEVER thought you'd get it that clean without professional help. I'm seriously impressed!
u guys r AMAZING!!!!THAT POOL LOOKED LIKE THE BLACK LAGOON, so clean now, an unbelievable transformation!!!! someday you'll b lying in that pool with a cocktail, admiring all ur hard work
What a work! I do appreciate that you are showing all the problems you encountered, it makes it more relatable.
A little more mosaic at the top would be so beautiful! But just like that, it’s already so much more beautiful!
I love this house restoration saga! WOW, what a difference in the pool! You two are funny together! Loved this!
The pool looks amazing and I’m glad you decided to keep it. I’m enjoying this series. It makes me look forward to every Wednesday. 😊
The view you have from the pool is breathtaking .
That house is going to be one heck of a place when you’re finished. I’m excited to see the progress each video!! That’s back breaking work cleaning that pool.
Sick house! I used to work at a pool company. We used muratic acid to get the stains out of the plaster
My ADHD-OCD- paranoidal and sheer ick levels with that pool were off the charts!!
I can't imagine where you all were at with it!
Beginning of this episode
ME->they aint getting that clean. They're gonna have to fill it in... dang it.
The end of this episode-
ME-> 😮They did it! They actually did it!!
F yeah! You got a pool!🤗
i could smell it from here. haha gagging
@@LoversLane16 Me too!
I know I turned 4 shades of green at least!🤢😂
Amazed at your sense of humor, tenacity, and going with the flow on this one! Great job!! 👏
O m g guys your hard work is going to pay off literally one day soon. That view is stunning. This can be a forever home. Keep up the good work! Best video ever. Bless your family and friends.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series. I love midcentury modern houses. You could rename this "How to remodel a house with the wrong tools." I kid.
What a transformation! A lot of hard work! Job well done!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Absolutely fantastic! So satisfying to see it cleaned out. I’m so glad you’re planning to save the pool. It’s amazing, the house is amazing, the view is amazing, you guys are amazing! Thanks for sharing!
That Creative Crochet Corner sponsorship came at the PERFECT time, I could cry. My New Years resolution this year was to learn to crochet and I've been SO intimidated, and I wouldn't have been able to afford that resource without your CRAZY discount, so thank you so much!!
While I'm here and gushing, I have been obsessing over this reno, I cannot wait to see how it progresses and how it turns out, each video is so much fun to watch ❤
My 2yr old and I LOVE watching your videos on your house renovation
I love how calmly the two of you handle obstacles and work together on something so difficult, but still making it optimistic and funny. Happy to have found your channel when I did! 🤍
I didn’t realize you were the same person who made the crochet flower things with flowers from followers! I loved those videos, and I love this one. You are so creative and so good at making entertaining videos, no matter what the content. ❤
Congrats on getting a good result on your swimming pool. A lot of hard work you all achieved and gained something fantastic for the future. Marvellous.
when you guys are just standing and standing watching the pump not really work..comedy gold, genuinly made me laugh :"D this property is gonna be amazing and I love watching you guys working on it !
The most satisfying thing I have ever watched... especially whatever that round red thingy he was using on the sides was?! It looks amazing. What a job! 😊x
A sump pump works really well to drop the water level in a pool (for winterizing or doing partial water changes) or drain a hot tub, and works surprisingly fast.
Great job on cleaning the pool. As an owner of one they can be a pain. We had ours shut down for two seasons during the pandemic because the liner needed replacing and no one was working. The clean up for two seasons was terrible, can’t imagine how much more work you guys put in to clean that monster. Great great job.👍👍🇨🇦
Your videos makes me feel so good and relaxed, or happy or excited. Thank you, Jenna!!!!
You two should be very proud of what you’ve accomplished. I know there’s days where it feels like two steps forward and three back. You have such a positive outlook. That’s what will get you through ❤❤❤
I’m so glad you’re keeping the pool! Yay!! You did a great job cleaning it!! 😁
You’re right Jenna, I did enjoy this video a lot more than you probably did! I think you mentioned considering getting rid of the pool in an earlier video, maybe you can put one of those removable decks over it instead so it’s there (empty) in case there’s a crazy heat wave or you want to have a pool party, photoshoot, skateboarding competition, etc
I'm pretty sure she's keeping the pool, especially with all this effort to clean it.
From what they’ve said on Patreon, I think they’ve changed their minds about getting rid of jt.
The old photos they found definitely make the pool seem like it was the heart of the house in the summer months for the previous owners
I've had pool draining, which does take hours. Basically, set it up and go do something else and just periodically check it to ensure it doesn't clog. Submersible sump pump are a big help
Watching the water getting pumped out...900 hours later...
On the plus side? You guys are getting an awesome workout. 😊
Heck of an investment.
Makes my day when you make new videos Jenna❤❤❤
You’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour really soon. Endless pleasure for your hard work; good trade off.
You saved so much money by doing it yourself!
I would make a outside sauna-building on the lower end of the pool and then new concrete wall on the half way and keep the deeper end as a pool / water reservoir. You will need the water for gardening in future years and possibility to go to swim from sauna is awesome. Good progress!
The pool cleaning has been very satisfying to watch 😆 amazing work 👏
That was always my husband’s job, won’t tell you how many creatures he came across. Have fun it would take 8-hours to drain ours.
1:52 you guys standing next to the pool is literally me waiting in my kids to get ready for school every morning
Nice blue paint on the walls make pop!!! That place gonna be a million dollars
I’m such a want things now person I’d be in there with a bucket lol
Thaught the exact same 😅No patience whatsoever
wow what a satisfying video to watch i could watch that for hours its come up Amazing so lovely to see some sun we have forgotten what it looks like its rain rain rain here in lovely cold England
The amount of work you are doing is truly incredible. Way to go.
Should’ve just rented a pump yall. I mean this is funny content (but also… c’mon lol)
You guys are amazing!!! I love your energy even when faced with such a daunting job. Well done, the pool looks great. I love doing satisfying jobs like that 👋.
What an amazing job you guys did. I really admire how much work you guys have put into this home.
Amazing job on the pool. You’ve done a lot of work on the house, yard and pool. And it shows! ❤
I'm so glad you took on this whole project! This house is going to look amazing when it's all done! It's fun to watch too
LOVE the *’waiting-for-the-pool-to-drain’* shots! 😂 you 2 are hilarious!
Am I the only one who feels like we need a Q&A from jenna ???
Gosh, that view was amazing. You guys are going to have a home you can truly be proud of yourselves for, one day soon. Beautiful job with filming, editing and just plain, old hard work. ✌🏻🤍🤞
What a great pool!!! So satisfying to see you two working together and yes, your humor is awesome. You’re quick witted I say🙏☦️💜. Already waiting for your next video 😃
Pool looks so so awesome Jenna, I found your channel a week ago. I’ve been binge watching to catch up. I must say your channel is my new favorite ❤️ now . I am loving the house remodel. This is such a cool house. I can’t wait to see it finished. Keep your eye on the prize. All the hard work will pay off and you can look back and smile at your (you guys) progress.
No more swamp pool.
Slow and very muddy/messy but you got it done. 👍
One step closer to a beautiful pool/backyard.
Looks so good! Thank you for sharing. Glad you all did this. Also. That view from your house!!! Gorgeous. 😊
You did a great job cleaning the pool. Having grown up with a pool in our backyard, in South Surrey, we loved it and used it from May through October. Yes, it was heated. We didn’t have the trees around our pool, like you do, so a pool cover might be a good idea. Yes, you have to fix the cracks, replace the tile, and repaint, but it will be so worth it. After the pool is fixed, don’t drain it again, but you have to prevent freezing during the winter. It may be old fashioned, but we put wood in the pool during the winter. It is amazing what pool chemicals can do. You will love the pool on a hot summer day.
10/10 music selections
Truly! I wish they posted the songs, I’ve been trying to find the pool scene “be the cat in the sun” song
the cleaning and drainage process was somehow really satisfying to watch!!
Thoroughly enjoying the process but with every video I see I want to see the finished product. Impatiently waiting for the next episode!!
Your music choices are just always so epic! Adds to the giggles!
It’s amazing the pool looks that good for being left to nature.
This looked like a TON of work that looked not at all fun to do, but the result looks like it was so worth it! Your whole outdoor space is looking absolutely stunning between the nice clean patio and the pool, not to mention the view. I look forward to future Jenna getting to kick back in her patio chair and do some crocheting by the pool!
Just a tip when you get ready to get the pool up and running again a custom fit vinyl liner is way cheaper than getting it refinished, for a pool that size it will still cost a few thousand dollars or more but its almost always less expensive than a respray.
