- Build an Exotic Mini Indoor Pond with Misty Waterfall DIY
I used a black FRP tub (FRP Lily pond 18" diameter) for this project which I had bought from The Green Tag, a local garden store. It holds approximately 20 litres of water.
The idea is to build a mini indoor pond with plants and a misty waterfall.
I proceeded to cut pieces of foam board to build a vault for the submersible pump. I used black silicone sealant for the job. A window was also cut out on the front and covered with window screen mesh to allow water into the vault. Making a separate compartment or vault for the pump is important to keep the pump free of debris and make maintenance easy. Next I created a hardscape by joining driftwood and Seiryu rocks with filter floss and superglue. This technique works great by providing larger surface area for bonding while joining uneven surfaces. This hardscape will sit freely on the rim of the tub and can be removed easily in case needed during maintenance. I placed the pump in the vault and ran a quick water test. It all worked fine and I was happy with the waterfall too.
Next I laid down a layer of aquasoil in the tub and capped with with river sand. Aquasoil has all essential nutrients that plants need to grow.
I created a minimal underwater hardscape with Seiryu stones in the centre of the tub below the waterfall area. This will soften the landing of the waterfall. I also added some texture around the rocks with ADA gravel.
I proceeded with planting aquatic plants starting with Myriophyllum aquaticum (Parrots feather), a Microsorum pteropus (aquatic Staghorn Fern), Camomba caroliniana and Hydrocotyle tripartita. Next I placed some common terrestrial plants (which grow very well in water) in between the network of the driftwood. I used regular Pothos, Monstera adansonii, Syngonium variegated and a Bromeliad. The roots of all these plants except the Bromeliad will be in water and is expected to grow well. The Bromeliad is an epiphytic plant and its base was wrapped in moss and mounted on the driftwood with a cable tie. It would however need to be sprayed with water on a regular basis to keep it hydrated. I also placed a pot of Dwarf Papyrus at the back behind the Bromeliad to add more texture to the overall design. The pump was installed in the vault and turned on. The compartment was covered with a wad of filter floss to keep debris out of the vault. The waterfall was adjusted for desired flow. Next some Christmas moss was placed along the waterfall outlet area in the cracks and crevices of the wood and rocks. Salvinia floaters were added on the water surface. Nexy I installed a mist maker at the back and turned it on. As the mist started flowing the final design came to life. I think it has come together very well. I also hope to add a couple of guppies and some snails to this mini pond in a couple of weeks. And I might add a sponge filter in future to help with basic filtration.

Amazing build! Looks like it came from a video game and I love it
Thank you
Well done! Love it. I can really see your inspiration and building techniques from Serpa and Asu.😁 Keep it going!
Thanks
That wood and rock structure is INCREDIBLE!
Thank you
Fabuloso!!!! 👏👏👏👏
Thank you
Omg.... This is next level... Fabulous
Thank you 🙏
i love it frank from germany
Thank you
Mind blowing idea ❤💛
Thank you
Wow, you are really creative! I love it and now I will make one for myself but cycle it and add tiny fish instead of the mist. Bravo!
Beautiful ❤️
Thanks
Amazing ...Glorious
Thanks
so beautiful
Thanks
Hi...wonderful project. Lovely as with all your other projects. Can i know how you prepared the river sand before using it in this setup? As i am sure it is not safe to be adding it just after drying into any setup for fear of it harbouring any pests or bugs that could potentially harm your inhabitants in the pond.
Thank you. I buy branded/packaged river sand which had been washed and disinfected and ready for use. I usually do not collect and use directly from nature.
Gorgeous
Thank you
Love the mist.
Wow!❤❤❤
Wow this is amazing and exactly what I was looking for to make for my centre table. So amazing and beautiful 😍
Thanks
Nice design. We get a humidity of less than 8 at times. Do you think the water in the waterfall will let the humidity be high enough for that design to survive in 100+ degrees fahrenheit temperatures on a shady balcony?
Thanks. Yes it should if mist maker is installed
Fenomenal 🎉
Thanks
What an exceptionally beautiful idea!👌🏻
Thank you 🙏
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very relaxing. I ho pe i can find the materials here
Muy bonito!
Thank you
Can you use more relaxing classic music pieces on your videos
I have used classical music in some of the older videos. The YT library is getting pretty limited for me now-days. Appreciate the feedback and suggestion.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist I know the videos you used classical music on and I love them, classical music just makes your art even better
👍👍👍❤❤❤❤
👍👍👍👍👍
Muito legal
Thanks
Beautiful! How do you do the smoke effect?
As shown in the video. With a mist maker . Thank you
Wonderful. Where did you get the bowl?
Thanks. From a local garden store called The Green Tag
Hi....Good video....What is filter Floss????
Thank you. Filter floss is basically a padding that's designed to catch larger waste and debris in a tank. It's usually built with one sturdy side so water can flow through it effectively. It is flexible and can be cut to fit a wide variety of filters.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist Thanks....
Can you tell about Lighting used.?
I am using a 24watt led ring light
Hello, where to get such pot ? And what about filteration and water changes in this set up ?
Source of tub in the description. Submersible pump vault with filter floss will aid in filtration. Filtration media can be added in the vault too. Submerged plants will also help with filtration. Weekly 40% water change recommended.
where can I biy the pump/mist maker?Thanks
Amazon
Can fish be in there with the mister?
Yes
Hi can you help ke
Let me know your query
