Thanks for the excellent review. It seems like the Joyo Cab Box and the Moore Radar Cab sim are almost the same - 44.1 kHz/24Bit, 23.2ms sample length. - The IR software has the exact same functionality. What do you think about the unit's self-noise?
I hear no noise out of the unit itself. It's kind of impressively quiet to be honest. Most of the noise I get out of my stuff comes from guitar hum and not the actual unit itself. I'm using quality power supplies though.
Also, I would say the balanced (XLR) output puts the joyo ahead as well as having more controls for navigation although I can appreciate mooer cramming a lot of functionality into a super small sized pedal.
Yes you can absolutely do this. The whole purpose of the "thru" output on the back is to bypass the cab simulation for putting in an amps fx loop. So fx send would go to the input of the cab box, then the fx return would connect to the thru output. Then you could connect the XLR or output options to your recording hardware or front of house mixer.
Excellent review and super detailed as well. That was a lot of great info and well explained. On the sound demo at the end, what amp were you using? Also, how was it hooked up from the amp to your DAW? Sounded great. Thanks. Phil NYC area
Hey thanks for commenting. The amp at the end was a Peavey 5150, the other amp on top is a mesa boogie dual rectifier revision F. It had the diamond plate removed and The cabinet which is not heard in this demo is an old birch plywood crate blue voodoo with british made celestion vintage 30s. I hooked it up by recording the balanced (xlr) output of the cab box into my audio interface (presonus quantum 2626). I had it hooked up to the amp by placing it in the effects loop of the amp but I used the input and the thru jacks on the top of the cab box pedal and not the output because that would have had an effect on the the sound of the cabinet in the room.
@@GuitarGodgt Thanks for that info. Appreciated. I will have to take a look at the Cab Box again to see where you took the output signal from. So are you just using the Preamp section of the Peavey 5150 (using the amp's insert out)? And going directly from the Cab Box XLR out to your interface? So another words, you left the 5150's power section out of the signal chain. Am I following you correctly and just using the amp's pre-amp section? Thanks again. Phil
For imported IRs is it recommended to disable the built in EQ of the Cab Box? I added some free IRs and when I disabled the on board EQ, the IRs came to life sort of speak. What do you recommend?
@@GuitarGodgt that's awesome! Yes it was driving me nuts! What I was thinking, perhaps the Parametric EQ is more suite to be used in this situation in case a certain frequency is killing the tone. Only thing is, I have to learn how to use the Parametric EQ. 😆
hi, nice video, i have a query, can i use this pedal in my effects loop? my effects chain is guitar> wah> treble booster> amplifier> (flanger> delay> reverb)> amplifier. My idea would be to put the pedal at the end of the effects loop, so I could use the output to re-enter the amp and the xlr output for console or interface 🤔🤔🤔 .also should i deactivate the "preamp" of the joyo if I use my amp (?)
This will work exactly as you describe. Just be sure to use the thru output and not the normal output in the loop on your amp. You don't want the cab box to be effecting your amp that way. Also no need to turn off anything on the cab box.
Omg!! I wonder why I didn't come across your video much earlier??!! Thank you for all the infos. Btw, you mentioned mostly if not all of the pros about this unit. Can you share the cons that you experienced when using this unit? I am really considering to buy this one now because of your video 💆🏻♂️. Liked & subsd!!
The only con I have found after owning for a year was noise from the balanced out on a church PA. But that issue seems specific to that PA as it is not an issue anywhere else I have tried it.
Great video man the box sounds great! I just got one yesterday and am trying to figure out how to set it up with my EVH 5150 tube amp. How do you have your cab box set up, like how is everything plugged in? I also have a two notes torpedo captor load box. I was hoping to be able to use the cab box with the captor in place of using the built in IR on the captor. Any insight about that? Thanks!
Well you can try running the line (dry) from the captor to the cab box but to be honest I do not know if that's going to sound best. My recomendation is to run the captor from the speaker out as you normally would and use the preamp output on the back of the 5150 (assuming yours is the same as mine) into the cab box.
thank you for this video man , i have 2 questions 1) what is the total memory for custom ir i got a sonicake ir loader it has only 236 kb space.so i couldn't lead 11 became irs are big . 2) it has midi so is it possible to conect wo Pod hd 500 and setup cab change via midi ?
Hey! Thanks for checking out the video. The Cab Box loads impulse responses at 44.1k 24bit. Devices that load at higher sample rates seem to come with a larger price tag (two notes c.a.b., strymon iridium at 96k and the new walrus audio ACS1 AT 48K). For what it's worth I don't perceive a any notable latency when using it and the audio quality is spot on.
I’m interested in this to keep my hd500x alive for a while longer through frfr. Don’t laugh, but can the software and cab box work with a Windows Vista machine. I can’t find that info anywhere

Hey man, thank you for the great video. Where do you purchase or download or IR's from?
Ownhammer sells them. There is also sigma, lancaster, and others. I have also found some free ones on google as well.
any idea how to do a factory reset? great tutorial on the IR loader, best I've seen
I actually do not know unfortunatly. I don't see anything about it in the manual either.

what does the thru slot do? does it bypass the cab sim?

Yes. Given many imported impulses already have thier sound, I would back that idea.
