I am so glad to hear that because I am Taiwanese. I can't speak this language, but before I taught this song for the choir, my friend Edgar Macapili, who is a Filipino conductor living in Taiwan, taught me how to pronounce the texts.
Maybe this is 5 years later, Ms. Lin. But I am writing an article on the song: what made you chose ROSAN PANDAN for your choir? Thank you very much.
I'm a Filipino from Luzon and I have no idea what this song is about haha. But I do know it's an old folk song. Your Filipino friend is probably from the Visayas region.
This song originally by late ms.elizabeth Ramsey and ms. Pilita corales
@@OldNoobGaming it is a cebuano folk song about a young lady name rosas
This is so good. I loved it!
I am a Filipino but also a stranger to this language. We have different languages like how french is different to Italian or English, however i grew up to these tunes of kundiman..
It is beautiful. Coming from a pure Bisaya Filipino

Must be proud, they have their own rendition nearly sung by our own Filipino famous choir singers called the Madrigal Singers way back in 2007

Im sure Pilita Corrales is so proud seeing this video
Pilita is only one of many who sang this. She's not the very first one to sing this beautiful visayan folk song.
'' and every cebuano, visayan too..'
@@tikbalangbukid every filipino :)
it's the group Asin that made this song, i think. Pilita only popularized it
Susan Fuentes is the original singer of this visayan song i guess.

She came a long way from the mountains
To join you
In the celebrations being held
Love songs are only what I can offer
These are what my ancestors left me,
Songs that are so old
The pride of these highlands
Dika ding dika ding dika ding
Ah our love songs
So nice to dance to
As cool as the dewdrops
Dika dong dika dong dika dong
Ah also look at Dodong (affectionate term for a young man)
Watching Inday (affectionate term for a young woman)
His saliva dripping (LOL, an expression roughly meaning "lovestruck")
Ayayay ayayay ayayay
Ah my love songs
So nice to dance to
As cool as the dewdrops
Tigadong tigadong tigadong
Ah also look at Dodong
Watching Inday
His saliva dripping
Love songs are only what I can offer

What an extra ordinary performace my eyes got teary for the joy of hearing that these foriegners chorale sing very well our Pilipino song rosas pandan one of the best song of the Filipinos..... Thanks for that awesome perfornce love from the Philippines
Sorry to burst your bubble but Cebuano is a language not a dialect, we don't call ourselves filipino since in the beginning the people of Cebu existed before Spain arrived in this archipelago, given a chance for a referendum we will separate from this so called Philippines. After all Cebu can stand on its own without the Philippines since before time.
Let us not bring politics on the nice comment. You can keep your opinion and have it post in a right thread.
@@josephchandlerceniza3264di waw kayo na magaling sa Pilipins
Cebuano is the most spoken language in the Philippines. I am Tagalog.
to those who are practicing for their own choir performance here you go:
Ania si Rosas Pandan
Gikan pa intawon sa kabukiran
Kaninyo makiguban-uban
Sa gisaulog nga kalingawan
Balitaw day akong puhunan
Maoy kabilin sa akong ginikanan
Awit nga labing kara-an
Nga garbo ning atong kabungturan
Dika ding dika ding dika ding
Ayay sa atong balitaw
Manindot pa ug sayaw
Daw yamog ang kabugnaw
Dika dong dika dong dika dong
Ayay usab si Dodong
Nagtan-aw kang Inday
Nagtabisay ang laway
Ayayay ayayay ayayay
Aya-ay sa akong balitaw
Kanindot ba mosayaw
Daw yamog ang kabugnaw
Tigadong tigadong tigadong
Ayay usab si Dodong
Nagtan-aw kang Inday
Nagtabisay ang laway
Balitaw day akong puhunan
Maoy kabilin sa akong ginikanan
Awit nga labing kara-an
Nga garbo ning atong kabungturan
Bisaya ka?
Nanglibawt akong balahibo ani buh!
Nindot kau paminawon. 😊
Oh wow, so that's why i didn't hear any tagalog words, this is actually bisaya!
Walay letter "e" lyrics. Hehehe
Wow a Filipino folk song beautifully sang & enjoyed by non- Filipinos.. Awesome performance! Thank you
Original lyric in Philippine Spanish:
La rosa
más primorosa
que floreciera
en la primavera
la he arrancado
esta mañana y
en tu ventana
vengo a ofrendarte
Mi bella rosa bisaya,
con mi guitarra vengo a cantarte
y a decirte que te adoro
que mi tesoro sólo eres tú.
Tiquitín tiquitín tiquitín
repica la campana,
anuncia la mañana
va despuntando el día
Tiguendum tuguendum tiguendum
late mi corazón,
mi rosa bisaya
asómate a tu balcón.
Is it really the original lyrics? That's nice to hear and odd enough it's not about "dodong na nagtabisay ang laway"
@@justrandomthings709 nah idk its not even filipino its visayan
@@justrandomthings709 It's NOT the original version. 😑The song is actually quite modern. The original version is an unreleased zarzuela written by a Cebuano composer, Domingo Lopez, some time before the 1970s. The Visayan lyrics are presumably the original lyrics by Lopez.
A TV-friendly version of the lyrics in Tagalog was written by Levi Celerio in 1973 (without the laway), which was made famous by the singer Pilita Corrales.
The Spanish version is a modern translation of the Tagalog version of the song by Pilita Corrales' former live-in partner, the Paraguayan singer Amado Sarabia (also known as Amado del Paraguay).
we can watch this over n over as stress reliever...talo niya ang ADVIL at ALLEVE, di ba ?
hats off to the choirmaster.
Absolutely beautiful. Was Tagalog, right? sounds like horses running in the men's parts. I hear the quick-off notes like gig's always wanting. Do you know where this University was?
north texas i believe.
Jerry Grim The song is in Bisaya.. its a language widely spoken in the south of the Philippines.. and yes the "tigiding" and "tigodong" are sounds used to describe horses running but it also pertains to the young lad's heartbeat as he watches this young lady dance in excitement. It even described him drooling. It's a funny song.
Watching this in 2019, tnx guys
ang lupit ninyo. I remember singing this back in grade school. I couldn't stop smiling while listening.
mabuhay kayo.
I am a member of a choire since Elementary and in High School "Torres High "way back 1953,and we sang this song and Dandansoy
This is amazing!!! The words are perfectly pronounced. It is beautifully sang.
this is the best version of rosas pandan I ever heard. this beautiful song by Domingo "Minggoy" Lopez will continue to give joy not only to the listeners but also to the interpreters. Thank you for the music Noy Minggoy!

They got the arrangement from Phil Madrigal Singers, Best version. more than just the techical... Madz got the feel . ...
Yes. He was inspired to write such a happy song reflective of our culture. Cebuanos are particularly known forhappiness and joy.
Great arrangement by Maestro George Hernandez.
Love your performance guys, this one of our country's more famous choir piece 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We did this song in my high school's chamber choir and honestly this was such a fun song to sing. It's a language I'd never even tried to speak let alone sing, and it was so interesting to learn the words! I enjoyed it a lot!
This is our favorite old folksong in the Visayas region of the Philippines, Cebu, Leyte and Mindanao areas. As a Filipino kid, we had to learn this song in our first grade. The song depicts of a young lady from the mountain whose only treasure is to sing a song about courtship she learned from her parents. She showcased this talent in time of festival or celebration in the town.
I am a Filipino,it melts my heart to watch and listen to them sing amazingly our song.Lovely!!! Thank You !!
THIS WAS RECORDED/DOWNLOADED LONG TIME AGO AND STILL GIVES ME CHILLS AND MAKES MY EYES TEARS!

You guys sounded great! Great rendition of this arrangement by Maestro George Hernandez. George is our Choir Master. He has several recent new Filipino Folk Song arrangements. Very nostalgic and good for Choral sound.. We recently recorded three and will record another one next week for his Publishing Company in the USA. Actually, he heard you guys and very proud of your performance.

One of the best rendition of this song I have ever heard and this is coming from a Filipino! Napakagaling (Excellent)!
Great job to the Soloist👏👏👏 So far, this is the best rendition I've heard internatinally. The melody and dynamics are good as well.
Jr Patatas suggested that singing be part of the Olympics, if dancing or ballet or floor exercise is a sport, so as singing like in a group. So University participants become Olympians too.And I'm sure Philippines would have it's first gold medal in the Olympics.
HUGS AND KISSES FROM THE PHILIPPINES!!!
😍😍😍😍😍
Im so proud to hear this song, as a Filipino, sung by foreign country. Thanks for this video. Kodos to the performers and the choir directress

Wow!!!.., I see that is done way back, but just happened to run into it...I'm impressed! Wonderfully done acapella!..,I thought only Pilipinos knew how to sing these correctly...Bravo!!!!..,more..,MORE!!!!
Goosebumps !!!
Rosas Pandan is a folk song originated from Cebu in the Philippines using the Visayan language. The song was created by Domingo “Minggoy” Lopez. He was born in 1912. So probably Rosas Pandan was created around the 1930s - 1950s (I'm not really sure). Correct me if I'm wrong.
Beautiful rendition! Clean and crisp. My only complaint is in the line: maoy kabilin sa akong ginikanan. The stress in the word "ginikanan" is a bit off so it sounds labored and a little awkward. I've noticed it in just about every choir who are not native Cebuano speakers so it's a minor nuance that only Cebuano speakers and those very familiar with the song would even notice. Otherwise it's lively, full of body and spirit and captured the essence of this beautiful balitaw. :)
Aaron Belandres if somebody would translate every stanza???
If you sing it using American English phonetic, the accent for ginikanan will fall on the 2nd syllable on the "ni" while the native Cebuano speaker is on "ka". There is a little bump on the "gini" and I sure noticed that.
Great song!..... Perfectly understand the song - - it's my Visayan language from the Philippines 🇵🇭! 😂
