    Now I see that our ancestors are geniuses in terms of singing..visayan, Tagalog , and more folks songs from the Philippines. Very unique and Goldy songs . Imagine sung by a foreigner and the results are great! Proud to be Filipino. Thank God

    I can't believe what I'm seeing and hearing. If you close your eyes, it feels like filipinos are the ones singing it but it's actually foreigners. Great pronunciation! The interactions between the choir members are so cute.

    It's amusing if you think about the meaning of this song.
    "Paru-parong Bukid" literally translates to "Farm Butterfly", which figuratively refers to a lady in the village known for her vanity and/or her good looks.
    "She flies around, in the roadside she flutters her wings."
    "She has a fancy fan and a hairbrush."
    "She looks at the mirror (her altar), and then walks while swaying her hips."
    When singing this song, it's as if you're either one of the village gossipers (you know, the ones who got nothing better to do than talk behind people's back), or one of her admirers.
    In the olden times, children used to sing this "non-sense" song while playing in the streets.
    It has become such a classic that it's culturally significant. Thank you for sharing this video of an excellent rendition of this song so close to our hearts.

    I'm 19 yrs old, still remember when I was in kindergarten I always buy folk songs book, or any 10 pesos books outside our school that is related to our history and tradition. And I'll read or sing it went we get home, over and over. And now I realized that I am different from the other children before. So yes, I am familiar to our folk songs and up until now I am still inlove with 'em❤️

      I think it helped that it looked like they had Pinoys in the choir - and for sure they did this a treat for the Pinoys in their community. I love how they inserted that anglicized "paglalakad" in the end with the thick accent. Haha im sure they all started sounding like that.

      That's the main problem here in our country, little by little the folk songs are being forgotten because we're not doing it, but Im glad that at elementary days our teacher taught us those songs. Our government prioritise more about unecessary issues.

      I was part of the choir back in my old school and we often entered contests. We sang songs like this in the competition, likewise other choir groups. The problem is, choirs aren't recognized. Here in the Philippines, choirs are mostly associated to churches only, but we have choirs like this too! We just need to learn how to recognize them

      Actually many universities are doing it every year, it's just not everyone can hear them because we dont post it much. We have more than 50 choir groups on Region 5 alone, what more in other regions

      It's not that it's being ignored, it's just that not many people can afford these types of entertainment:) Usually they are pretty exclusive and are performed at prestigious places like CCP and not many people can afford to enter CCP hehe or even any theater for that matter :]

    You know I may live in a country now but filipino traditional songs will never die on me. My family has authored several traditional songs of our own too that is either sang only in our family or has been released via my late great uncle’s music career with his band. Pen pen de sarapen was one of those songs.

    This is rendition I have heard from foreign choirs of Par-Parong Bukid. The arrangement shines out better with this faster tempo rather than the moderate tempo by most other choirs. The rhythm is nexactly the way butterfly's wings flutter which is fast motion up and down, not like birds. It givesw me the image of a butterfly on flight with its wings fluttering.

    Orchestra is only appreciated by a limited audience because of accessibility and a terribly wrong mentality pang mayaman lang ung mga orchestra . Kung Mai mainstream ito.tyak magbago isip Ng mga madla. Orchestras and choir arts should never be neglected but sadly and worst even during this pandemic, they are in danger of dying.
    Let's hope they will rise again with support of the government, private companies, well heeled patrons and the music loving community. Social media will help them a lot to be exposed as well.
