I've made two upholstered headboard+frame for my kids and now I'm working on this one (using my own measurements because of a small space) and I must say, he makes it look really easy. :) He's SO good at what he does. It's easy if you want it to look crappy but it's actually not that easy.

What struck me was the fine quality of the final product, yes, all around the world there are factories churning out button footstools by the millions, but this was something else. I'd really like to try to do some upholstery..feeling inspired!
If I were working with upholstery, my favorite material is EXCLUSIVELY leather. I have Asperger's syndrome and have physical contact issues that would not be understood by the general population, but at the age of 5 I would have intensely enjoyed tufted leather upholstery. Even in my adult life I would love to have a bed made of leather cushioning.
Questions, when you were attaching the skirt for lack of a better word you used what appears to be a piece of cardboard; 1st is that correct? What is the purpose for doing so? Would you recommend doing this on a reupholstery project if a large rectangle ottoman with a storage compartment? I plan on removing the entire top, putting in new foam & padding. The underside of the lid is covered with black webbed fabric. Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my questions! Your work is ABSOLUTELY perfection! I've done tufting before, but the method I used was VERY different. But it was a headboard, so perhaps that's the difference!
Hi there. Just watched the deep buttoned Otterman and it was truly magical to see how you did this. I have just stripped a footstool down and that also had a 1/2" cardboard strip on it. Why do you use the cardboard strip? is it to support the piping perhaps. Alan in the UK.
+Alan , yes Alan the 1/2 cardboard is to straighten and strengthen the fabric , used for "blind tacking" it keeps the piping or welting from tearing loose
