    Thanks for this great video - it’s the 1st of yours I’ve watched and I’ve now subscribed.
    Please I REALLY need to know how the wooden base was attached - if you just attach it on to what you’ve already upholstered, won’t the raw edges be visible?
    Thanks!

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kate - thank you so much for subscribing, your support is really appreciated 😊🙏🏻 so the base was a separate piece of wood that I covered in black bottoming fabric and slotted into the bottom of the box (it sits on the wooden struts/blocks across the bottom) and then I also put black bottoming on the bottom of the box to cover the struts so you couldn’t see them if you turn the box over. I hope that makes sense!

      @@faceliftinteriors thank you my dear. Never used MDF before but I think I'll give it a try as it's half the cost of half inch ply . It's over $400 in my country so it's proving to be extremely difficult to do any projects at all and having to purchase everything else to do any work. Keep on putting out those awesome videos 🙏🏾

    Quick question
    I love how you first did the sewing then fitted it over the wooden structure
    Can i do the same and still proceed to do diamond tufting on three faces of the ottoman?

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Thank you for watching and for your comment. If you wanted to do stab buttons, then yes but if you wanted to do deep buttoning/ diamond tufting then no. The fabric has to be loose to allow folding of the diamonds etc so it wouldn’t work for that unfortunately.

    How much fabric do you add on to compensate for the foam on the sides please? Enjoyed the video, thank you.

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what size foam you use on top. I used 2.5" so I added 2.5" + the wood which was 1/2" so allow an extra 1" so 4" total each side.
      Hope that helps. Thank you for watching and for your comment 😊

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi mate thanks for this. I had a chippy over and got him to make me an ottoman storage box so he has put the base and lid on. Do you think it would be possible to upholster it with those on or easier to just remove it?
    Also, how comes you're working in inches?
    Subbed btw....

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi mate. Thanks for the support really appreciate it.
      I would put the hinges on before any fabric or foam. Make sure the lid opens and closes nicely and then mark exactly where the hinges sit so after it's all Upholstered you know exactly where to screw the hinges back in. Then take apart and Upholster. Hope that makes sense?! We work in inches as the seam allowance has always been 0.5" and it's easier to measure. Most companies still use inches for Upholstery 👍

    Just curious, why did you not use a metal tack strip so you wouldn't have to staple the bottom of the top on the black fabric? Also on the inside of the bottom of the box, I would have added a separate upholstered bottom, Something like a 1/4 inch thick with the same black fabric on it and that would have hidden all of the staples in the bottom. I like how it turned out. Good work.

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment!! I didn’t use the metal rack strip as it was just the inside of the box, which was going to be used to store bedding etc so the inside wouldn’t really be seen. But that’s definitely a good idea if you want to keep all of the staples hidden! I did add a separate upholstered bottom that i slotted in at the end but unfortunately didn’t get any footage of it 🙈 thanks so much for commenting - I love hearing feedback from other upholsterers 😊👍🏻

      @@faceliftinteriors I like your channel. There is not enough content out there for upholsterers to learn from so it's much appreciated. My father is the actual upholsterer in our family. He has owned a shop for 40+ years and I was able to work with him for a bit. What I want to do is more furniture type upholstery. Sadly in our area, it's cheaper to buy new furniture than to have furniture recovered or custom-built. Anyway, thank you for your channel.

      @@faceliftinteriors sorry ment the two side gas hinge to hold open

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Maria, these were standard kitchen cabinet door gas hinges. You want to make sure you buy the correct strength hinge for the weight of the lid. Our MDF Wood was 12mm so didn’t need overly strong hinges. Usually I go for N60 to N80.

    Did I miss the bottom install? I'm sure the closing fabric is not sturdy enough to handle alot of items.

      Use platform lining for the inside as it's Stronger than bottoming fabric. 🙏😊📎📐⛏️🧵✂️

      Hi! You can make these boxes whatever measurements you like - this one was approximately 150cm length, 40cm depth and 50cm height.

    My man! I couldn't understand anything you were saying. And that was in the first minute and thirty two seconds, also you're speaking too damn fast. Everyone hears and comprehends differently. Please keep that in mind. If this is because you are on a serious time schedule to get your content out then give it time. PLEASE.

    Is it ok to use Gorilla brand adhesive spray?

    • @faceliftinteriors

      Hi Siren, I’ve never used it so wouldn’t want to advise. Upholstery spray adhesive is pretty inexpensive and works great 😊 👍🏻
