@@Tom-oj7si I’m pretty sure they know they are pets. “Babies” in this context is a term to denote care or bond with said pets. Since you know, one would normally have some sort of love towards one, even if it is not the same as loving a human. I think you need to change those lenses.
I have so many fond memories of doing this with my blue fronted green Amazon. She would then return the favor by carefully and gently preening my eyelashes and brows. That was years ago when I was still a kid. The thought of letting any other bird that close to my face and eyes with their powerful beak is a little horrifying. My Amazon was truly special to me. Thanks for sharing.
I usually just take the pointy end of the pin feather off for my B&G macaw Rio. She’ll often ask to be scratched by fluffing up her feathers and taking her foot while I’m next to her and putting on the part of her head or neck she wants “itchy-scritchy’d”. Or she’ll turn her head upside down if her throat is itchy. She is used to this dynamic as we’ve been together since 1992. She was 10 months old when I rescued her. Back then I had a mini macaw and her side kick a cherry head conure, my first bird both of whom have died. My conure was with me 34 years and my mini macaw 27. Now 32 years Rio has been my companion. We also adopted a Congo African Grey he’s been with me 22 years.
Something about pin feathers gives me the creeps. Especially if there are a lot clustered together, lol. SO satisfying to see the ones ready to be 'opened' get scratched off.
My budgie isn't tamed, but I swear he loved when I did this for him. He doesn't know me well and is brand new, but as soon as I started to try and help him he loved it. I have a cockatiel who LOVES head scratches now. He's feisty, but friendly.
I have a sun conure so the ones I help open on his head aren’t that big, but when he opens the big ones on his tail and wings and they fall off I’m always like whoaa a chonky one lol. It’s also cute when he fluffs and shakes to get the rest of the flakes off
Whenever my parrot gets a lot of pin feathers you just roll them back and forth between your fingers. If they are "ready" they just flake off. She totally loves it and if she was a cat, you would hear her purring!
Anyone who doesn’t know don’t touch these feathers until they go white. On my Amazon they come in black then start going white from the tip down. My boy Buster will sit for as long as it takes.
@@ParrotWizard ya- I should've been doing that 10 years ago when I got him. I rehomed him from a breeder. He was used for breeding and was not a companion until he came to live with me. But he is my best friend and he is not aggressive, he just doesn't like being handled very much.
When talking about the bird getting agitated, it's important in a parrot this big because that beak can potentially do damage if they get upset enough.
I’m not kidding when I say I could watch pin feather preening ALL day
@Gunner Elian it sounds like a scam bro. Don’t do it

Rachel communicating she doesn't want you touching specific feathers but not actually biting you shows how close yall are :>
Ok I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes picking pin feathers.
Not only is it fun and satisfying for us but the birds need us to help them if they don’t have any flock mates!! It’s essential for everyone!
I never knew feathers grew like that. I just kinda assumed they'd... You know... Appear magically or something
X2. 💀
I knew they had to grow out of their skin, like hair on us, but I didn't know they come with a sheath.
You should take a look at baby birds. They look like half-naked porcupines.
My caiques are always sheathed at the bottom.
hair, feathers, scales and skin are all practically the same.
I enjoy seeing Gods creations and unique characteristics for all his many land animals and ocean/fowls of the air creatures:)
Pin feather ASMR, very satisfying to watch!
Thank you for this visual training. Parrot parents need lots of examples on kindness to the small creatures they love 💕
Parrot parents are parrots.
Rachel is so beautiful.
You can tell they enjoy it by how they are leaning their head into her hand. Awwwww 🫶🏼
Lol My Umbrella Beau is trying to preen her threw the screen. So cute!

I love doing this with my birds. Its so relaxing and make our relationship better.
By birds love when I help them out with their pin feathers then give them a nice shower afterwards. Rachel is adorable!
I help my conure open his pinfeathers from time to time, and I came here wondering what it's like to do so for a big bird like a macaw. Great video!
Is it weird I wanted to watch them remove all of them? Pin feathers drive me nuts hahaha
