Rob Zombie's "The Munsters" - Black and White trailer

- I wanted to see what Rob Zombie's new Munsters trailer would look like in black and white, so I desaturated the colors.
This is a fan mock-up done as an experiment. I don't claim ownership to the Munsters, or have any official connection to Rob Zombie, Universal, etc., etc.
Still needs some audio work. That being said, this works wayyyyyyyyyy more than the actual trailer. Makes you wonder why they didnt just stick to Black and White
Rob Zombie talked about it. He said the studio wouldn’t let them release it in black and white…unfortunately

@@UnderTheBridge96 dang that sucks. The modern adult audience can tolerate and enjoy black and white. The lighthouse, The tragedy of Macbeth, hell even the Snyder cut had a black and white version. Families arent taking their kids to see The Munsters regardless of whether or not its in black and white. Only og munsters fans will go out of their way to watch this. Cater to them! Especially if youre trying to recreate the same tone, and aesthetic of a cheap sitcom from 1964.

Its crazy how just changing it to B&W can make a big difference! I hope there is an option for it on DVD.
If not, you can always turn the color off when watching it on your set.

This looks 100% better. Too many Dutch angles. Editing on the trailer is offbeat when they show the Munsters house near the end. Some of the voiceovers dont work.
This B & W version gives me hope. Love the Munsters! Superfan!

It would be pretty sweet if he released a black and white version as well.

God this is so much better. It had a cheap grindhouse/made for tv coloring scheme that only worked in some shots. This looks infinitely better in black and white.
I think they could've gotten away with the movie being in color if it wasn't splashed by the color pallets from Batman Forever. There was a little movie from the 90s... I think it was called... THE ADAMS FAMILY which was in color but the filmmakers wanted to homage the original books and show while trying to please modern audiences, you wanna know how the director figured that out? HE DIDN'T SHOW THAT MUCH COLOR IN THEIR HOUSE!
Addams Family looked good because director Barry Sonnenfeld has a background in cinematography.
Everything filmed in black and white had sets with extreme colors. This way there was enough contrast that everything was visible in grayscale. I think that Rob Zombie wanted to release it in black and white and that's why the colors are so crazy.

Wow. This is so much better than what we saw in the original. It even drops out the over polished look of the color version. I feel like this needs to look like I’m watching it on an old tube tv the size of suitcase.

Like Wtf.... the real Trailer looks so much worse, like someone rainbow barfed all over the screne. This actually looks like it gets the vibes of the show across and its somewhat palletable. the audio is still awful but reinvigareted my hope that the movie will be ok atleast. Release it Black and White

The black and white looks better because it hides the cheapness. I mean if Rob Zombie wanted to make it as authentic to the show as possible he should have just done it in monochrome to seal the deal.

I'm thinking that the movie ending up like the mist where it was supposed to be in black and white but the studio made them change it to color because this looks so much better

The reason the original Munsters worked was because Fred Gwynne (Herman) and Al Lewis (Grandpa) were vaudeville veterans and both had near perfect comic timing. Something that is very hard to reproduce today. However, the Munsters always looked better in B&W.
Exactly, the B&W fixes the visuals, but Zombie still fucked up when he cast Jeff Daniel Phillips. Though I think Daniel Roebuck did a decent job as Grandpa.
Hey good job. Was wondering how soon before someone did this. It does disguise the cheapness, but not the bad writing, directing or acting, sadly.

Color or Black and White I would still watch it. Come on its Rob Zombie!! That being sad B&W make this trailer wayyyyyyyyy...... better. Also I am very interested in see Robs take on Comedy.

I KNEW this would look better in Black and White, holy shit. I bet it was supposed to be in Black and White, the studio said no, and Rob Zombie pulled a Harrison Ford in Blade Runner and tried to sabotage the look of it in color
The visuals definitely work better. The audio still sucks and it’s still not funny.
The part that makes me doubt it was meant to be in black and white is the colored lights. When you shoot in black and white you just use regular lighting cause In black and white there’s no difference.
Edit: so Rob wanted to shoot in black and white but the studio said no. I wonder if Universal will change there minds after this

Needs more contrast.. that was the beauty of black and white shows and movies. Wouldn’t hurt to also add a grainy filter.
this looks better , I hope there is a black and white version at least on the home release . I think the colour version is just to bright . They must have a full black and white version done.
Yeah this is far better in B&W as it has the aesthetics of the classic show. Stupid studio interference, I hope it has a B&W release.

Being a full-time Munster fan and full-time Munster collector for over 20 years authoring websites and trivia websites on the show the trailer is insulting disappointing with terribly constructed characters... I'm confused why the show is called The Munsters when there is no Munster Family Herman alone does not make a family and most episodes were designed around Marilyn AND Eddie... it's probably a good thing Mr DeCarlo, Mr Gwynne and Lewis are not alive to have witnessed this garbage pile on their excellent careers
holy shit ! This looks way better in black and white. I think a few select color accents from time to time wouldn't be bad. Like the lightning at the beginning. the other thing that bothers me is Herman's voice. But maybe a younger Herman would sound similar.
im 100% convinced, considering the set style and color is the sort of thing made to make old black and white films work better, that it was intended to be this way but some execs said no.
While putting it in black and white does make the visuals look a little better, it doesn’t fix the terrible audio quality.
Herman: "Marilyn, She's your neice you know. She's your sisters kid. Know one on my side of the family ever looked like that HA".
Lily: "By the way where is Marilyn".

Wow it’s insane how much better it looks. Still has the obvious issues, but I would at least give this a shot if I can see it in black and white.
It's not too late for them to remaster the movie in B&W. That would be a good style choice.

This is the story of Herman and Lily meeting, so it takes place before Eddie was born (and possibly Marilyn, too)
You know what would make this better if you did with some colors like what they did in sin city and make the black and white super colorful and then have the greens and reds in color and everything else black and white it would look even better
yes showing it all in B&W makes it look much better but then so does putting lipstick on a pig....

Normally I support his work but this time uhhhhhhhhhhh I think I'm out. Yep cant get behind this one. Looks a bit too much like something you see tossed up as a youtube series.
