This is the first time I've ever seen one of your videos and I'm blown away! You are a brilliant storyteller! I loved the synergy between information and entertainment that you've concocted!
I actually love that Earth is mentioned in this video. It didn't surprise me at all, because for some reason, I just expected it to come up. Of course, considering the countless horrors that can be experienced here, that's probably why. In a way, life can also be terrifying.
The only thing I'm ever been blown away by in this video, is the fact that Kepler 70b actually survived a damn supernova. Supernovas literally destroy everything in their path when they go supernova. So, the fact that Kepler 70b survived it's just shocking.
I've had something of a phobia of gas giants, Jupiter especially, since around the age of 6 years old when I had a dream of falling into one, watching the gargantuan planet growing bigger and spreading out to the horizon, and then perpetually falling for what felt like an hour, through thick clouds, getting darker and darker as the light faded as I fell deeper into the planet, knowing with certainty that there was nothing below me but endless black and certain doom. The dream basically traumatised me as a child and gave me a kind of thalassophobia particular to gas giants. I know it sounds daft. The sheer immensity, power and apathy of Jupiter is just terrifying to me.
If it makes you feel any better, scientists think that the crazy gravity of Jupiter actually protects us from a lot of asteroid strikes. So that big scary dude is looking out for us
Weirdly enough, I also had a dream where I was in the abyss of space. Though the hue was mostly red, I feared falling endlessly so I tried to dive myself to a nearing planet. It was so weird, but I guess that's where the fear comes from. That shit also scared me for a while.

... One could argue we have 13 planets, on a rather large technicality. We have 2 or 3 planets double the distance of Pluto away from the Sun with enormous revolution cycles. Likely revolving around the, but too unreasonably far to count in our solar system.
@@genozp2328 There is also Ceres in the asteroid belt. If we welcomed Pluto back into the classification of "planet" we would reasonably welcome Ceres in as well.
@@genozp2328 we have 8 planets and 5 dwarf planets, and no, the solar system ends at the outer edge of the Oort Cloud. to put what you said into prospective: Pluto orbits at around 40 AU from the sun, so, those planets you mention would be at around 80 AU from the sun. Voyager 1 is currently (after 40 years of traveling) at almost 150 AU from the sun... it would take Voyager 1 30000 more years to reach the edge of our solar system. so those planets you mention (in reality the only one that far out that we know of is Eris, since both Makemake and Haumea are more or less distant from the sun as Pluto, and Ceres is in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter) are well within the boundaries of our solar system

@@iannai Pretty much speculation about everything we can't touch, theres like 100% margin of error , meaning that the universe could be 13 billion years old or up to 27 billion, or as low as 6 billion. The planet could be 12 billion years old, or 24 or 5 billion, thats where the "maybe older than universe" comes from, but to be at least 90% sure, scientists would need to travel to the planet, take samples about certain atoms because based on their behaviour, we can tell the age those atoms have, meaning we can safely say the age of the planet.

Just to note, J1407b is... disputed. Not necessarily its existence, but the idea that it's a planet. The way J1407b was detected was by detecting occlusion around its parent star, V1400 Centauri. Problem is, over 21 years of observations, the occlusions never reoccurred even though J1407b's orbital period is supposed to be around 10 Earth years. Right now it's suspected to actually be a brown dwarf not bound to V1400 Centauri, which would mean its ring system is actually brown dwarf's equivalent to a protoplanetary disk.

Why would they have empathy for a specie so less complex and powerful than them?
If we were stupid we wouldn't be where we are in the first place, there wouldn't be Iphones, TV and consoles, there wouldn't be elevators, cars and planes Greed and ambition, and stupidity have nothing to do with each other Besides what makes people think that aliens are so smart and superior like they tell it in fantasy? We haven't seen any spacecraft besides humans' in all the habitable universe we explored. They're probably simply more animals with no rationality
The fact that there are 40 billion planets in the Milky Way alone, that can support alien life is frightening. The only problem is how large the distance actually is between star systems, the speed of light is too slow to travel, believe it or not, the fastest mode of travel would have to be through wormholes.
we can travel at the speed that could be faster than light. Light has a limit, but space is forever expanding so we can use those hyper warp drives that NASA is working on based on that. I am probably making it too simplified so i recommend looking it up. We can only do so much with what we have like going to Mars. "If we can turn Mars into Earth then we can turn Earth into Earth." Niel DeGrasse Tyson said seems very nice to know that we are evolving to that stage where we can almost do anything with technology. idk just ranting.

@@donpit8597 nope, it's X as the mathematical unknown in equations, not X as in roman numbers

2: Some recent theories indicate that Metuselah is actually older than the universe itself. So we either are awful at calculating planet's ages, or we were awful at calculating the age of the universe.
Detail #1, we cannot see for sure.
by the age of the universe - don't scientists mean the observable universe? there's still a lot out there of the universe we haven't even seen and its constantly expanding so i doubt the planet would be older than the universe. although, that's quite interesting
Humanity must become multi planet for our own survival. Still maybe 1 plus billion years back venus people jumped to earth. Still though Mars has a much better day, year and seasons for us.

I am genuinely curious how different aliens actually look to us
They would probably look at us like we're stupid for using up our resources and taking this beautiful and perfect planet for granted....
Humans are just plain greedy
I sometimes wish I was a fish
If they are on an earth like planet (similar gravity, atmosphere, ecosystem, Star etc) they'd be fairly similar if they have roots in monkey animals like humans do.
If they evolved from birds then they would have bird like features or if they eveolved form an intelligent breed of fish they'd look like fish or just be fish.
@@andreasimon2752 Nah, I can imagine some aliens being much, much greedier. Imagine if they were similar to ants, hivemind and all.
They would have no "ethics" or empathy like humans/primates. The only thing that matters is acquiring more resources and growing. In their equivalent of modern times, they would have long destroyed the entire ecosystem of their planet, ripping it apart to build the massive complexes they live in and supporting their all-consuming growth economy.
If they managed to discover space travel, they would rip their entire star system apart, stripping every planet down to the core, before moving on to the next one in a ravenous spree of consumption.
@@BierBart12 sometimes people say that advanced alien civilizations would be smart enough to know that war is dumb
and would try to help us, not destroy. But those are humans concepts, murder and rape is wrong. Why? Because we said so. Who knows what aliens would think about this? They could have completely different visions of what is right and what is wrong. That, and what makes them think aliens would have empathy for us? Do you have empathy for bacteria? Why would they have empathy for a specie so less complex and powerful than them?
If we were stupid we wouldn't be where we are in the first place, there wouldn't be Iphones, TV and consoles, there wouldn't be elevators, cars and planes
Greed and ambition, and stupidity have nothing to do with each other
Besides what makes people think that aliens are so smart and superior like they tell it in fantasy? We haven't seen any spacecraft besides humans' in all the habitable universe we explored. They're probably simply more animals with no rationality
The fact that there are 40 billion planets in the Milky Way alone, that can support alien life is frightening. The only problem is how large the distance actually is between star systems, the speed of light is too slow to travel, believe it or not, the fastest mode of travel would have to be through wormholes.
Agreed.
Just Some Guy without a Mustache Worm holes are theory’s
we can travel at the speed that could be faster than light. Light has a limit, but space is forever expanding so we can use those hyper warp drives that NASA is working on based on that. I am probably making it too simplified so i recommend looking it up. We can only do so much with what we have like going to Mars. "If we can turn Mars into Earth then we can turn Earth into Earth." I feel so validated by the ending of this video! I did a report on crazy and horrible planet conditions in school. And my summary was that earth was scarier than any of them can ever be, simply for the fact that earth has HUMANS! You'll die pretty quickly on other planets....but earth has creatures with twisted minds!
Love this video!

@@user-su6ts9wm1h Godwin's law in action.

Sounds quick.
I want them to put on my grave “Died 3 different ways” solidifying me as a badass

It’s what makes astronomy seem alive and real. Without it, all of this would seem…fictional. Which is quite ironic.
The planets *are* real, it's just we don't have high quality images of them.
@@alissapuckett420 they don’t have any images of them outside of what a good telescope can provide.
