Amazing how few left handers there are in each batting line up. In almost all the clubs I've played for (or against), it's normally a pretty even mix. It helps to have a mix as bowlers have to change their lines accordingly. Hildreth is class: I'm amazed he never got an England call up (other than as a substitute fielder!)
Never understood it. I think JH played his 1st-Class career at a time of largely shambolic selection at England Cricket. Tresco must have had a work on his behalf? I’m a Hants fan btw.
@@RalphBrooker-gn9iv There was a lot of top class batsman around at the same time as well unfortunately, Cook, Bell, Pietersen, Trott, Strauss. He was just around at the wrong time.
@@RalphBrooker-gn9ivunfortunately England’s team at the time was unbelievable. And was number 1 in the world. Only time he probably could’ve came in was after collingwood retired. But they preferred bopara at 6 and eoin Morgan, who both had scored multiple test 100s. Then after that they played Bairstow at 6 and it was during the emergence of Joe root so bit tricky really. Was just extremely unlucky, another guy you could say will be held in similar regard once retired is Sam northeast probably, but for me hildreth didn’t actually have any unbelievable years when England needed batters in their respective positions. Always were consistent enough without having any outstanding years scoring mental runs at a silly average. Northeast has had a few mental seasons at silly averages, dare I say might be a better player than hildreth 👀
"We played super well, batted good and bowled okay... but they had James Hildreth so we needed a miracle" Pretty much sums up when actual pros/ex pros play village cricket... leaves a very sour taste to any village game IMO.
I always thought it was a great challenge to play against current or ex professional cricketers. Yes, they would probably make the difference to a lot of lower league games. But if you are playing what I'd call decent level league games then you'd expect to play against an ex professional or current professional most matches. You just try to raise your own game. What's the point of winning matches against mediocre opposition. Surely it's better to win against good opposition!
Subbed.. that tall leggy is wasting his height by bowling flat and fast ... would be more difficult to play if he had more loop from height .. great win for you guys!
Had to laugh at the outraged fellow saying “you can’t wear a go pro… this is division one cricket!” Well if your bowlers didn’t keep bowling long hops, half volleys and full tosses, then, maybe, you would be div1 standard?

Having J Hildreth is like having a cheat code at this level
It was a cheat code in the County Championship for 10-15 years too!
Great video mate! Subscribed 😀
Thanks a ton! 😀
Brilliant to see James bat again, one of the finest batsman I've had the priviledge of watching for many a year.
Alex played 1 game for me last year in the midweek league because I was short, lovely fella, glad to see him getting some runs
Really nice video. Look forward to the next one.
Awesome footage! A great game for the channel's debut, too.
Awesome work man, wishing you well this season with the bat and ball. Good luck!

Really well put together!
Best county batsman never to play for England.

Great player. Special talent. Bit beneath his level this to say the least but a great challenge for any oppo.
POV: When opponent knows that only sledging can save them now.
Imagine “Just James Hildreth opening”!
New Batter plays out a maiden, creating tension, then Hilly hits the next ball for 6 to release that tension, class.
Enjoyed the video and great to see you slap the ball back over the bowler - loads of mouth normally means loads of fear :)
Bit of class from the bowler at 8:00
Don't you just love the arrogance of some league cricketers, thinking their proper special. Went very quiet in the outfield near the end 😂😂😂
honestly mate, some of them are dreadful to play against.
@bilalmalik5002 I can imagine, seen it all before, Good job they won 👍
Played for stony back in the late nineties with James dad great days with smudge and Geoff Parrott behind the stumps with a big stogie on 😂
Hildy is an absolutely legend !

Brilliant video! Now a subscriber. Could you tell me your go pro settings please 🙏🏽 Resolution, FPS, lens, hypersmooth & zoom pretty please 🏏❤️
Thank you!
My GoPro settings are:
4K 60 fps, Digital lens, framing: widescreen
But at least he has a stand named after him…..more than many can say👍
Quite enjoyable
Very green-looking seamer wicket.
LAOS and RAOS first change, take me down to paradise city!
Worth all the sledging I’m sure!😅
Great Video, What comera do you use for sideline recording ?
Thanks and I’m using the S24 Ultra

That's a proper green pitch
The guy bowling from the near end at the start of the highlights looks to have plenty of elbow in his action. Very suspect.
Hildy in his day was brilliant for Somerset, shouldve played for England.
i love cricket.
