Regan: here’s some winter reads, books filled with snow Me, who lives in a tropical country In which is summer the entire year specially in December-January: 👁👄👁
The Bear and the knightingale is among my favourite book series ever. Maybe because I really like winter time haha. It's everything I want in a transporting fantasy book and more. So cool you love it too!
I read the whole trilogy at the beginning of 2020 and I LOVED IT! I'd been disconnected from all things Japan for a while but this trilogy brought me right back in!
@peruseproject Regarding “Native Spirits ... Alpha” by “Disch Amm”; I was wondering if you reviewed books on philosophy, mind body and spirit and the like? Please get in touch if you do. Kind regards, Max Primer (Representing Disch Amm)
I have been waiting all year to read The Bear and the Nightingale over this holiday season! Spinning Silver is also the perfect winter read. So great and I think underappreciated book all-around.
I completely agree with you on The Fifth Season. An excellent book. All of the others on are my TBR. I have The Bear and the Nightingale, and hope to get to it sometime in the near future. I really enjoyed Uprooted, and am hopeful that Spinning Silver will also be a good read. Thanks for sharing this :)
I'm from Germany and when you said "Rumpelstilzchen" it took me a LOT of time to figure out what you were saying :D I had to laugh so much, the pronunciation is so different
I loved spinning silver, I just donated my copy bc I didn’t foresee rereading it but the cover u have is STUNNING! So now maybe I’ll rebuy it and reread it, I also didn’t realize she had another book but I def wanna pick that one up
I would love to see a reading vlog or review style video where you read an original fairy tale and then a retelling and tell us the similarities and differences and if you think it works!
I’m such a seasonal reader too so I am so ready for these winter recs!!!❄️❄️❄️ once upon a river has such a pretty pretty cover!!😍 and the story sounds so atmospheric and fascinating omg
A Discovery of Witches is my favorite trilogy!! Witch/vampire romance alongside dark academia? Literally my favorite combination (and so so atmospheric and entertaining)!
I love Spinning Silver and have Once Upon a River on my someday TBR. Another book I associate with winter is A Curse So Dark and Lonely - I think that is set in the winter.
Watching all these book related videos has me very motivated to possibly self publish my first work next year. Typically I work with modern fantasy/spiritual themes, but have dove into sci-fi every so often. I also kind of like tying certain stories into an overall connected universe; sort of like the Dark Tower series. An ever expanding multiverse that can be broken into chunks while remaining one single entity.
I can't believe I've never heard of "The Silence of Bones" as a Korean Studies major. This sounds truly fascinating! I'll definitely pick this one up. I also loved "Spinning Silver" - it's simply the perfect read for the cold season. I would also recommend "The Snow Child" by Eowyn Ivey. It has "cozy whimsical winter read" written all over it.
The Winternight Trilogy is so incredible💙 I 100% felt everything you said about it- Vasya is such a wonderful main character and the Russian historical fantasy setting is just perfection 😍 I really want to read all the rest of these recommendations!
2:54 I think you meant " a witch and a vampire" 😂 I started the discovery of witches tv series recently and I'm really excited to start the books from the trilogy pretty soon !
I was just about to point this out lol.. Matthew is a vampire not wizard. Because different “species” are not allowed to intermix their love is “forbidden”. I just reread this and... I didn’t love it like I did the first time but it’s still a great story!
I opened this video hoping The Bear and the Nightingale/Winternight would be here :) I read the whole series last winter while living/working in a really snowy, mountainous area and it was PERFECT
I'm reading "When the Sea Turned to Silver" by Grace Lin to my mum this year, and it is a VERY winter setting! We've been cold the whole book so far. It's kind of Asian folklore with folklore stories within!~
I’m planning to read the bear and the nightingale in December :) excited to finally read it! And OMG the silence of bones sounds amazing!! If you want to read another book set in korea, The Mermaid of Jeju is coming out December 8th and looks great.
I read the bear and the nightingale last winter and loved it! I am going to finish the rest of the series hopefully this winter! Spinning silver by Naomi Novik is a fantastic winter read and I highly recommend it. If you enjoy that “baba jaga” folklore you will like her book, uprooted, also.
A Discovery of Witches is one of my favorite rereads (even though I do not like its sequel books). Have you heard of The Rook by Daniel O'Malley? It's light and funny and I think you might like that as well 😁
Oh you should definitely read The Thirteenth Tale if you're looking for some other Diane Setterfield! I unfortunately didn't enjoy Once Upon A River as much as I'd have liked but The Thirteenth Tale is one of my all time favorite novels and a perfect spin on the gothic tale!
I really need to try The Bear and the Nightingale. I've heard it's delightfully wintery, which you're only reinforcing! Given it's coming into summer for me (Australia!) then, uh, maybe I'll wait for a bit. :P
My cousin and I have been reading the bear and the nightingale for 3 years now I think ?? Just because it's such a winter book we can't read it any other time... so finishing the series this year
A coupe middle grade books I read last year somewhat impulsively for Polarthon ended up being really satisfying page turners - Ember and the Ice Dragons by Heather Fawcett and Frostfire by Jamie Smith. I also loved two books by Pat Walsh - The Crowfield Curse and The Crowfield Demon. There was supposed to be a third book, which still hasn't manifested, but each book has a satisfying ending so you aren't left hanging. Set in the cold and hardships of ...I think the 1400's in Britain, I was amazed at the sense of being in that world the author created. I also really like the Greenglass House stories by Kate Milford (I've read the first two so far) and Winterhouse by Ben Guterson (read only the first one). More recently, a very cold, atmospheric historical novel - The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave. I could go on and on but before I write a novella..... :)
I read A Discovery of Witches series a while back. I was probably to young to read it honestly, but still enjoyed the trilogy. "Once Upon a River" is actually sitting on my floor right now since I picked it up from the library. Def check out Diane Setterfield's "The Thirteenth Tale." It's her most popular book. More gothic literature than fantasy, but so great. I was thinking about the book recently and dived further into the author's books, hence "Once Upon a River" now checked out from the library
One thing that is very interesting for me that all of the books in this 4 latest videos that I’ve watched from her are those who i rrally never ever have heard about them and are new to me and she is not recommending famous books founding in booktok ( yeah i am new to her channel i havent seen all videos maybe i will found some that i know and read )
This last October I published my first novel. I think you might like it as it has that urban fantasy supernatural vibe. It is currently free on Kindle. One for the Road by Jeremy M Moore Sorry for the self-plug, but I thought it might be something you may enjoy.
I don't think "whimsical" is how I'd describe The Thirteenth Tale, but I did really like it. I have Once Upon a River and Bellman and Black, but still haven't read them.
I have to admit, I HATED Discovery of Witches, but that might have been my own fault since I thought this was a fantasy with a romance subplot, not the other way around (that was at least what it felt like to me, kind of like Twilight for adults). I also thought that it was way to long for the plot and that it could have easily been shortened by half, I was so bored 😅 I was so disappointed since everyone seems to love this book
@@safinan8008 No problem and thanks! I'm actually currently reading eye of the world for the first time (though I took a break to read Rhythm of War) and I'm really liking it so far. Happy reading to you too
@@TiliaHaggstrom enjoy the read I’ve read the first book Robert Jordan book eye of the world great start... also luving Robin Hobb books too.. take care happy reading
I just cannot get on with NK Jemisin. Several booktubers and bloggers rave over her but I keep trying to pick up her titles and end up DNFing them..I am beginning to wonder what is wrong with me..I've also picked up The Bear and The Nightingale a few times but can't get the will to continue..
Def nothing wrong with u, everyone has their own taste and thats valid. A book can have wonderful qualities but still not appeal to u but nothing wrong with u :)
She has a pretty unique writing style that definitely doesn’t work for everyone. Her books can also be a bit confusing when she jumps right into worlds without much explanation! Personally I love them but I understand why someone wouldn’t
Girl, I love your channel but I get seriously concerned for your books and bookshelf. I keep watching the bookshelf thinking it will just explode with all of the books😂 if u have an Amazon swish list I assure you that your subscribers will buy you some more bookshelves /rolingbook tray/ wall shelves 😂😂 just let us know

The Bear and the knightingale is among my favourite book series ever. Maybe because I really like winter time haha. It's everything I want in a transporting fantasy book and more. So cool you love it too!
Discovery of witches is one of my favorite so am really happy you like it
I highly recommend Red Winter by Annette Marie for a winter read. If you like japanese culture/mythology its perfect.
thanks for the rec! I will check it out!
I read the whole trilogy at the beginning of 2020 and I LOVED IT! I'd been disconnected from all things Japan for a while but this trilogy brought me right back in!

The discovery of witches is brilliant read, I recommend you read the other two books in the trilogy.

Totally agree that The Bear and the Nightingale is like THE winter vibes book 😂😂
I love how some of her books are stacked next to her bookshelf because she has no space ❤️😂
Literally just finished The Fifth Season and LOVED IT!!!! And thanks to this video, I’m looking at my copy of Spinning Silver on my shelf 👀💙

The audiobook for Spinning Silver is utterly fantastic!
oooo making me want to reread!
I just finished Whichwood a few days ago. Definitely much darker than Furthermore, but still a good read. I gave the first one a 5/5 And this one 3/5.
Always find my next read! Thanks!

I just finished the Winter Night Trilogy this year and it was fantastic! Once I got 25% in I couldn't stop reading!

Is it weird that I'm always on time watching Regan's video? Yet late for my online class XD
I got The Bear and the Nightingale a few months ago and I’ve been saving it just to read it in December lol
