Gotta love fans like you. It’s fun to talk shit and mess around. But at the end of the day it’s a game and we can all respect one another. Hope you guys have a great year too! I’ll def be hoping for a WVU big 12 championship just bc of comments and ppl like you @russellsnyder4437
My overreaction is we look like 2023 Michigan (with our dominant D and complete, dynamic O) and they look like us last year (lots of great D not a lot of great O). Anyway, WE ARE!!!
Corrections and retractions: So, Rahne's first game as a non-interim OC was against APP ST in 2018. Penn State averaged 5.49 yards per play in that OT contest...meaning Kotelnicki, statistically, had the most explosive debut for a PSU OC in the James Franklin era.
I admit it, I'm a fair-weather fan. I was here last year after WVU win. But, even though i overreacted a bit last year to the first win, this one feels different, right? I know i will probably just be let down again ( it's a thing for PSU fans since the 90s), but if it's going to happen, this has to be the best chance since the 90s, right? I know there have been a few FUN teams ( saquon season comes to mind), but we were never going to win with McSorley ; as fun as he sometimes was ( that iowa game and USC , that was FUN), he was a limit passing. Allar can ( and dare i say is on the cusp) of being THAT guy. So no more, oh wait till next year.. THIS is the year they need to do it. And it just feels like this team has the swag of the barkley , mcsorley days.. albeit with a better qb , and better defense, oline, etc. And the backfield , as a whole, is also better. ThIS has to be the year! WE ARE!
Love the breakdown as always coach. A good start to what could be a good year (especially now that Oregon may not be what they were cracked up to be). My only caution is that everything looked great against WVU last year too. But it is very encouraging!
Great breakdown as usual! There were lots of positives from this game. I was curious about two things after that game, though. Long third downs and Allars fundamentals under pressure. Hope you cover some of that!
Yes I may be overreacting a little but I don’t think I’ve seen a PSU qb ever throw a prettier ball than Drew. Maybe Kerry Collins. Some of those throws look like top tier Sunday plays. Impressive!
Great breakdown as always coach but 2 things I'm concerned about coming out of Saturday. 1. When WV played man coverage it seemed like the wide outs struggled to get separation. 2. Kaytron Allens lack luster running performance. Did WV do anything different on plays he was in or did he just have a bad game? Gotta say I absolutely LOVED the energy and swagger Allar played with, we never saw that last year.
Watch FTB's videos about Kotelnicki's wide zone rushing. I think We've only scratched the surface of what Coach K can show us and Allen will be a major factor in that. We still have a full season ahead of us. Need to save a little for USC and OSU.
Hello, great videos I learn a ton of watching them. Can you help to explain what happened on the fumble early in the game that Drew was visibly upset about? Was there something the defense did to interrupt the play?
Hey Timothy: Yes. So, many times, road teams in loud environments switch the SNAP signal from the QB saying it out loud to either a silent count, or in this case, a CLAP cadence -- QB claps, center snaps the ball. Allar claimed to refs on the fumble that a WVU defender CLAPPED...which is technically illegal, causing the center to snap the ball prematurely. Here's a blog post explaining the penalty: fansided.com/2021/11/13/disconcerting-signals-college-football-penalty-explained/
I got the sense that PSU showed some motion, but maybe about 40-50% of the Kansas razzle dazzle. Coach, did you see that delta between a game 1 install and a mature playbook?
On the last play the Beau to Warren TD pass, it looked like blown coverage by #35 on WVU? The two WVU LBs #35 and #4 came pressing up. Shouldn't one of them picked up Warren? AK called a great game. Big upgrade in OC.
Definitely got sucked up into the play action run fake to Kaytron. Doesn't look like they were in Man, but his eagerness to be a hero and stop the jet sweep that wasn't certainly left a coverage void behind him.
Beau was in at QB so tendancies WVU had seen on film and also set up well earlier in game planted the seed. Passing play design is same as run play--OL sold run as eye candy, Warren released instead of blocked, and defenders jumped to Lee who motioned from opposite side. Final piece was having Safety decide which receiver he would cover. Goal is to put defenders in conflict and simply take what is given by D. This play illustrates great success at doing so.
Loved the game all round by the team. Only concern coming out of the game is the WRs other than Wallace and the big play from Evans I'm not sure any other WR caught a pass or even targeted. Not that we needed the others, bit is this a bad sign for down the line?
It’s the same illusion. Explosive plays are a necessary, but not sufficient ingredient for serious Big10 contender or playoff talk. We were a pass interference and a ‘receiver didn’t have control’ in the end zone call away from a one score game. I know they got a couple of calls, too. Championship level team like 94?? Allar has so much growing to do before beating WVU means so much. Wake me up when we beat a top 10 team. Ugh
Pretty sure we made splash plays last season against WVU too. Wake me up when this happens against Ohio State or Michigan. This is hallmark Franklin, beating up on the sisters of the poor.
Allar still can't make throws under any kind of pressure. Clean pocket - he's great. Any hint of pressure and he becomes wild thing. Hopefully they can get that cleaned up.
No wrong!!! He actually has the pocket presence to tuck it and run, he had over 40 yards rushing and converted a few key 3rd downs with his legs 🦵!!! WE ARE 🏈 Unrivaled
This is like saying for a pitcher, "All you have to do is throw three fastballs over the outside corner at the knees, boom, boom, boom, and you've got him." Well, no pitcher can do that consistently. Same thing with QBs. Name a college QB who throws well under pressure. Any NFL QB, for that matter. I'll wait.

Mountaineer fan. Just wanted to jump in here and say good job on Saturday and hope you can knock off that shady bunch from Columbus this season.
Good luck against Pitt! We can all align on that.

when drew is right, squared and organized, we agree

Yes. Except for a few breakaway runs, the RBs were good for 1-2 yards a carry. At least they weren't 7-yard RPO losses. They'll figure it out.
