- I hooked up with Gerhard Groenewald to go and look for some kob on the light tackle, using only lures as bait! we took a 5km drive up the Breede River to one of Gerhards spots. at first the fishing was slow but we eventually found some kob on the high tide.

Gerhard fishing slow: With a longer rod up lift:
And Gerhard gets the fish to strike on the slow and consistent long high uplift.
This results in "Alot of Vibration", to the "Soft Paddle Plastic".
Take "Note": It is not called a "Paddle - Tail" for nothing.
Why?
Because Gerhard's long and slow rod uplift, causes major Movements and Vibrations" on the "End of the Paddle-Paddle - Tail".
The Breeder is renowned for "Dirty" water: Henceforth:
Take Note with your eyes: As well as use your 1 + 1 = 2 Logical thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Use your eyes : And watch successful Angeles: Then use your 1 +1 = 2 And think Why? The answers your because answers.
Tje Breede has Dirty Water: Make the Paddle-Paddle vibrate and move.....
Gerhard has also choosen to use the Paddle Tail?
Because the Paddle Tails have obviously been more successful and consistent multiple hook ups.
You also used the "Buck- Tail", which has no "Paddle Tail" : Hense you have choosen a jerk twice upwad lift.
Causing lots of vibrations and movements for a Buck-tail.
But a Buck-tail and a Paddle -tail have "Totally", diffrent retrieves : To produce the correct movements and vibrations.
Gerhard is using his slow and high rod lift: To allow near by fish to use their lateral line to "Home-;In" of the "Paddle-tails" vibrating tail
As soon as Gerhard, gets a "Strile or Hit", he quickly strikes the fish.
You could of also fished slow and long high uplifts.
Yes you have lighter braid, but with the same retreieve as Gerhard, you would of ended up with more strikes using your Paddle -tail.
Yes Gerhard has thicker Braid, but the 1 once lead is still going to fall pretty fast.
You have told your son to fish slower for Grunter,
For Kob in dirty water, slower and long high uplift of your Rod -Tip.
