      This is all so exciting! The best way to tell which plant you might have is to see your leaf once it blooms! Colocasia has leaves with the tips pointing down and most Alocasia have leaves pointing up. This will let us know what do we have! Keep me posted. I am very excited for you.

    Black Coral and Black Magic are two separate plants. Black Coral has a shiny, wrinkly black leaf and Black Magic has a dull flat black leaf

    • @YalisCommunity
      @YalisCommunity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bruce! To my understanding They are both the same species Colocasia esculenta also known as black magic Colocasia, black coral Colocasia, Elephant ear or taro. Some places might refer to as black coral others as black magic, but a different plant or species is the alocasia which are very similar but they point down instead of up like the cute Taro. Thank you for your kind comment! And thank you for being part of the Community! May you have a wonderful day!

      @@jennychin3907 Hi Jenny! You know what?! After seeing the plant growing more and more I can see that my plant is very shiny and glossy so it must be specifically the colacasia esculenta black coral and not the colacasia esculenta black magic. I will be doing an update on the plants soon. I have been growing a plant indoors and another plant outdoors, now with the change in weather I will separate it once again and plant one directly in the soil and see if it survives our winter. I have updated the info of the video and give more info in the updated video. Thanks to you both for sharing such awesome insight! Love it! May you have a wonderful day!

    Love this video! I recently bought a propagated division and planted it in a 6" pot and it has been growing leaves like crazy! However I do notice they are quite top heavy and bend, do you have any recommendations for stability of the stems? Maybe a larger or deeper pot?

    • @YalisCommunity
      @YalisCommunity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Megan! It makes me so happy to know that you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Yeii! Congrats on your new plant! I am a firm believer in imitating nature and so whatever plant I have that needs a bit of support what I do is I take some branches from my yard and I just use the branches as the support for the stem. You can stick 3 branches around the plant making a triangle shape and tie a string to each branch this create a perfect support for the hole plant. If the plant is 2 times bigger in height then the pot, then I suggest to repot it and do as I mentioned with the branches in the new pot. I will experiment with half my plant, planting it outside and storing the bulbs during winter, some I might leave outside, so I will keep you all posted in my journey with my Colacasia. If taking good care you will have lots of new divisions in no time. If you are like me and like a good marvelous huge plant then a bigger pot is the best way to go that guarantees multiple growth and divisions! Hope this helps. Any other questions please send them my way I love learning and helping. Thank you for being part of the Community! May you have an awesome day!

    Do you have drainage holes in this bucket you're planting it in??

    • @YalisCommunity
      @YalisCommunity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This bucket do not have holes. Most of my planters have holes but for certain water loving plants I do not worry about having a planter with holes. This plant is a heavy water feeder and by not having holes in the bucket is allows me to water it less and maintain the soil most. This plant like a moist soil and does better if sprayed with water to prevent aphids. Prevention is key. Hope this helps.

      Hi Sophia! Thanks for the comment! I live in zone 7 and we get enough sunlight to grow bird of paradise indoors which are more for the tropics in zone 11-13. For your zone you can still grow tropical plants indoors. Another favorite of mine is the Red Dragon Begonia. I just shared it in this video. th-cam.com/video/ASsvD1aYpeg/w-d-xo.html. It likes indirect sunlight and tribes in low light so perfecf for those long cold days. Thanks for your kind comment and being part of the Community! May you have a Wonderful Day!

    My black magic leaves are turning yellow i dont know why😭

    • @YalisCommunity
      @YalisCommunity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! No worries I believe I know what is happening. Usually the yellowing of the leaves is a sign of the plant being dehydrated. As I mentioned in the video the black magic loves water!!! like really needs a lot! So feed that plant lots of water everyday and you will be good to go! Also it might be too much sunlight but for the most part sunlight to this plant is no problem. We actually want the direct sunlight and the more sunlight the darker the color of the leaves which is what we all like ... so I am guessing the main problem here is water! I water mine once a week but I have her in the container that you see here with no holes in the pot so the water stays inside all week and I literally pour lots of water like 2 gallons that will last all the week for my baby! Go ahead and water your baby also and the plant will be good to go! Hope this helps! Thank you for being part of the community! May you have a wonderful new Year! Oh and also clean the plant like I did in teh video at the end because this plant gets a lot of tiny plant spiders and that can get the plant sick and dye quicker. Summary clean the plan regularly as shown in the video and water it more!

      I've been looking for videos on how to take care this plant. Giod thing i found your channel. Thank you so much🥰🥰 i hope my black magic can survive its very rare here in my country and very expensive😅. Will it not get sun burn if i put it on direct sunlight? We only have morning sunlight tho. I'll look for a spot that has direct sunlight. Thank you so much again. Hope this channel grows more🥰.

      @@RacelleMaeLope You are so awesome!!! Thank you for your good wishes! It makes me very happy to know you enjoy the channel and I can help! You can certainly place the plant in a direct sunlight just maintain it hydrated with lots and lots of water. This is a plant that is very difficult to kill it by overwatering it but you can certainly kill it by underwatering it! You got this! Hope it grows magnificent!
