Just to clear up a small misunderstanding: This my story from the age 17-24, in which I lived in China for 3 of those years. I’m now 26 and based in Da Nang, Vietnam. I haven't returned back to China to live, although I'm hoping to visit again this year.

I felt deeply identified by your story. I’ve been performing as an artist in shows since 2008 mainly in summer season jobs but when the Covid thing happened, the entertainment industry was stopped and I was stuck in my country for three years where I had different jobs but none were satisfying me. I thought my career as a performer was over. I was struggling financially and mentally until last year when I received an offer to work in a huge company in China. I arrived to Guangzhou in June of 2023 and I couldn’t feel more happy and grateful for my new life here. I’ve been working on myself to build my self confidence back, I love my job, I’m saving money and having great time with my new friends. China really saved my life!

@@grahamlee688 Thank you! I am very happy in China, no country is perfect but China has everything I need to have a good life. As you can see in my videos, I worked before in Germany and the US but China offers me the best balance between salary, cost of living, quality of life, growth perspective, security, free time, opportunities and everything else I personally might need to be satisfied.

After 20 years of living in the West, just from the news reported by the media every day, you will feel depressed and hopeless, because almost all of them are negative news reports. In China, on the other hand, no matter how much you discredit her everything, in the news you will be hopeful about life. Oli, you are lucky enough to meet China, which opens your eyes, illuminates your heart with sunshine, and life is always full of hope.

I just subscribed. I’ve changed my ‘perception’ about China in the past couple years.
I’m so weary of the current affairs in the U.S. I’m tired of the violence, the hate, all in a politics driven atmosphere.
I think what moved me about Shanghai -a small thing -but something in US I never have seen. People always dancing in public parks. Elders exercising together in the public park. The cleanliness..beauty. I saw elevator additions built on older buildings for those that have difficulties physically/elders.
Here we see the Homeless daily , ppl begging everywhere, even in small cities across America..many twisted individuals hang in our public parks where Women are at risk jogging in the early or later daylight hours. No respect for any laws. I’m sick of society here, the caste system, the lies that are fed as truths.
Now the China bashing daily by our failed leaders. I am thankful for my dear friend in Shanghai who helped me open my eyes. It’s refreshing to hear yu and like minded vloggers on China speaking out on TH-cam.

Western culture is deeply rooted in poverty and scarcity, wheras Chinese culture is rooted in richness and diversity. Western culture and Chinese culture is absolutely contradictary. If you like Western culture, you will not like Chinese culture, because in Chinese culture the characteristics of Western culture are criticised, such as selfisheness, shamelessness...----low level of morality. If you like Chinese culture, you won't like Western culture. Chinese culture is 2000-year advanced than Western culture. Western culture is primitive, brutal and backwards.

Thank you so much, Oli, for this emotional and inspiring video! I am grateful that I took the challenge to do research degrees in London, where I learned tons both cultually and academically. I stepped out of my comfort zone and dated a Brit, through whom I got to take a glimpse of ordinary lives in London and beyond. All these would be with me throughout my life, and they have brought me to a place where I never imagined after I graduated from an ordinary Chinese university.
It is surprising to me that I end up loving China even more after seven years of living and studying in the UK. Now with transnational and transcultural perspective, I get to understand my mother country better, and become intrigued in some local cultural phenomenon. I guess crossing national borders does help alleviating some pains rooted in complacency, and brings about surprising changes.
Will continue to follow your lens to explore the panorama of beauty in the world, and I am honoured to have witnessed a bit of your transformation and growth :)

I can relate to you with the wanting to know the deeper meaning of things from a young age. Seems to be an instinct that some people are born with and I wouldn't change that for anything. I remember you from time ago on MW2. You seem to have always paved your own way and added your own creative spin on things. You were born gifted and it's up to you to channel those gifts for the better! Btw I used to edit in the cod scene way back when we gamed and I turned that passion of video editing into a full time job recently. I wouldn't have had this passion if you wouldn't have made those episodes back then so I'm really grateful for that. You are lucky to have wonderful family members who help you through difficult times, both emotionally and financially. Great mother and your father. My parents have also given me a lot of support. Maybe I will be able to get out of the woods soon, wish me good luck, haha.
To be honest, the content is not new, and is even very old-fashioned, like an road movie, where the protagonist changes himself through a journey.but I still feel warm and inspired because of the sincerity.Simplicity and candor always touch people's hearts, thank you.
Btw, the symptoms you described about being unable to stop thinking deeply about some issues are very consistent with the characteristics of Low Latent Inhibition(LLI). It is actually a mental illness, but it usually improves after adulthood. It is difficult for ordinary people to realize that this is a disease. If you are still having this problem I suggest you see a psychiatrist. I had this problem when I was a kid, so I know a little bit about it.

Good to see a red coat (British, as in "the red coats are coming" in American history) turned his life around and found happiness. Did you like Da Nang? I am about to make a trip to Da Nang to eat pho and banh xiao (yellow pancake).

You should someday rejoin your dad Lee in China.
Lots of exciting things happening in the country as it reopened to non-essential international tourism, plus easier visa application schemes

Nice vd, u r very articulate. Most young kids in the west these days, having motivational problems b' cause their live is so monotone and they see no hopes for the future. If yr vd can motivate one, it is worth it already. Keep up the good works, you can be an example on howto respond when u run to the dead end.

It doesn't matter where you live. You're lucky your father could give you the manhood training you needed. I don't care how much we as mothers love you. It's only a father who can pass manhood on to you and free you. Hug your father and tell him thank you. Remember when you have a child. You don't have to be perfect to do what's needed.
