    It might be worth using some dielectric grease on connections like that and in all future appliances that you work on to help mitigate water ingress and corrosion. I mean corrosion is bound to happen on these appliances either because of poor design or user error. Top job, Vince.

    My father had an old 1940s Standard car, it had a similar sliding mechanism using 4 sprung hook style bent sprung rods that opened and closed the door windows.
    The only difference was 2 springs that stopped the mechanism slamming open or closed.
    It was a simple mechanism that worked well,,,
    You lifted the window about 3" and it would click and slide all the way up, again pull down about the same distance, click and down the window would go, the added springs made it move smoothly.

    For recycling the Nespresso pods, you can get a Duait press called the EcoPress that ejects the grounds out the pod (and turns it inside-out) so it can just go in the usual aluminium recycling - they are only a tenner too :)

    • @Sparks0001
      @Sparks0001 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelArlt most councils have facilities to recycle aluminium and food waste, so it's not really needed when the consumer can recycle all the waste very easily

    • @MichaelArlt
      @MichaelArlt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sparks0001 Im talking about waste, not recyclable leftovers. Bosch for instance, does build pods, which are not recyclable but waste. You're simply not allowed to throw it in the recycle bin.
      I did clearly refer to companies, producing excessive waste.

  • @DerekWilsonProgrammer
    @DerekWilsonProgrammer ปีที่แล้ว +2

    re: recycling - they do recycle the pods themselves, you can ask for a bag and they'll send one to you, you fill it up with capsules and send it back, or take it to the local shop. They turn the aluminum into neat things, and use the coffee grounds to grow rice and they donate the rice to world food bank.

    Be careful plugging stuff into long unreeled extention leads, mate. I know a girl that managed to totally melt one at work, when she plugged in a 2KW light! 😂
    Also, I think you now officially own more coffee machines than Starbucks and Costa put together! 😛

    • @AndyHullMcPenguin
      @AndyHullMcPenguin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point. Just for the record, the reel will heat up much more if it is coiled than uncoiled. Several reasons for this. First of all, when coiled, everything is in a confined space so resistive heat loss from the resistance of the copper wires is confined to the drum and when uncoiled it escapes more easily into the air, second there is a certain amount of inductive self heating going on in coiled wires that doesn't happen when they are unreeled. Finally 2KW on an extension reel, not a great idea in the first place.

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know and I still have another coffee machine to look at that I got years ago 😂
      This extension lead is 50m so when I am doing proper work I unreel it, but for short testing it stays reeled up as it takes an eternity to reel it all back in. Funnily enough I mentioned that in an upcoming carpet cleaner video that was filmed about a month ago 👍

    Good work fixing the coffee maker Vince mate. I am fixing seven new 18650s into our stick vac. Had to buy a more powerful spot welder because my other little spot welder wouldn’t spot weld the thicker terminals and 18650 battery end caps. The milk frother will stop by itself when it is ready. The coffee machine takes time to heat up the water before it will make a coffee. But besides all this, this machine is great, but it has some design issues which cause leaking coffee in the capsule dispenser. Some parts will need replacement in the end. I know this, because I own one myself.

    As a recent convert to Nespresso, purely for the convenience, it's interesting to see an upmarket machine. I have a very basic one but the principle is the same. Where I live in Australia the local chemist shop collects the capsules for recycling, not sure about the UK.

  • @bertlzansinger
    @bertlzansinger ปีที่แล้ว

    Lucky a bit as I expected to have it a water leak somewhere. As manuals are overrated: yes there is always a certain „descale button procedure“, the milk frother should stop independently when done foaming up (if not interrupted untimely 😅) and the simpler Nespresso machines do not have a cleaning cycle (by design).. Cheers mate, you are an inspiration!

    Machine worked perfectly until today. I put it in descaling mode and the machine produces (cold) water for 5 sec and keeps the pump going for about another 20 sec. No water being consumed.
    I can't get it out of descaling mode, factory reset doesn't work (can't complete it in descaling mode). If i replug the machine it remains in descaling mode.
    I've read something about replacing the motherboard. I can't imagine that the boiler/compressor is broken, because before descaling this worked fine!
    Can i use your wishdom, what would you suggest?❤ Need to get it fixed asap otherwise my pregnant wife will kill me haha.😂

A suggestion - you could have covered those connectors with hot glue (assuming that in the positions they are the glue will not melt), so that you would protect the contacts somewhat from corrosion and that would be easily reversible.

    It looks like instant coffee and Nescafé claims it is not. I would not try it.

    Nice machine, too stupid that you can only program it to make only one coffee

      And yet that is the entire point of the machine: to make only one single solitary cup of coffee, as opposed to a minimum of four cups that would require the user to throw out three cups of perfectly good coffee every day.

      Competitors machines have a double runout - so 2 cups can be made at the same time - I did mean the ‘smart’ part of the machine that you can make it brew a cup of black gold when you wake up. I never wake up alone
