Massive part of this equation is the nearly unparalleled success of the Rays scouting system. Seems like they nail every trade because they know who to target more than just “young & controllable”. Great video tho dude, subbed
Die hard Rays fan since a toddler I was too young to even understand what this trade meant at the time(Delmon Young trade). Still watch every single game to this day. Also, to be fair we’ve offered some huge contracts to guys like Freeman & Judge they just chose to sign elsewhere. I think that trend will end before the new stadium opens.
This video got recommended to me while Hurricane Milton slams Tampa Bay. Just thought I'd mention that but the video is also a great representation of how smart that front office is.
You're just totally skating over the numerous issues with Delmon. He didn't get traded because of sunk cost fallacy or anything, he got traded because he was a jackass that couldn't stop getting suspended. You really should've mentioned him throwing a bat at an umpire
Couple cool video idea's mark trumbo 2016, Carlos Gonzalez, 2016, Derek Lee 2005, Brandon webb cy young then 2 second place then his career was done, Davis Schneider rise and fall, falloff Alberto mondesi, Billy Hamilton, Rick porcelo, the rise fall and rise again of Michael wacha I've got many more keep up the good work
This was a good and fun video. The one thing I would say is that I don’t think the view of total WAR is a statistically relevant chart. I think an Avg WAR with, maybe, a standard deviation would have better demonstrated the point of the total value of the trade tree. The other graphics were spot on. Two thumbs up.
On the flip side, The Mets spend lavishly. They blew up the payroll in 2023 and finished the year well below 500. Now they have an excellent president in David Stearns whose crafty trades have put them on the brink of a playoff spot. Unfortunately, a lot of fans don't appreciate him. they call him "mini market stearns" The fans never learn.
To this day, I try and take note of almost every minor league player Tampa acquires because there’s a strong chance they’ll become important pieces to the team going forward lol ⚾️
Good video, but I'd really suggest trimming down your introductions moving forward. It took nearly four minutes to get to the actual trade tree and how the Rays benefited from the Young trade.
It’s really cool what the Rays have done, but I wouldn’t necessarily call the trade bad for Minnesota. They didn’t make those subsequent trades with those other players, the Rays did.
You need to get your information straight there buddy, if Delmon Young was traded in 2007 & you’re saying that Tampa Bay has only made the WS in the COVID shortened 2020 season, well that would be false information, the year after Young was traded away, the Tampa Bay Rays took on my wife’s Philadelphia Phillies in the ‘08 World Series & lost in 5 games.
He meant in that window of time he was comparing the rays success to the Yankees as in the last 5-7 years. That was really clear in the video if you paid attention before being a dick
Delmon Young never played for the Rays (0:05) until he did (2:41). This was otherwise very interesting. I suppose he meant that he never played for the Rays while they were good.
Agree and disagree, the A’s have been insanely successful like the Rays in spite of our piece of shit owner, I’d say the major difference is the Rays owner cares enough, unlike ours who is abandoning everything to further fill his pockets
Did he say they’ve only made it to one World Series? And that demon young never played for the rays? Oh boy. Credibility is key man. Not a great start.

Should turn their name back to the Devil Rays
Excellent as always.

Really the Ray's offered contracts to judge and freeman?
@@mikecha3002 yeah pretty competitive offers too.
Very cool. I would like to see more trade tree videos.

< throws phone through his Pittsburgh window
You need to look at some hockey trade trees. There are a couple that are traced back to the 1980s
They only made one world series in the shortened pandemic season. What about 2008?
I was only referring the last 5-7 year run the Rays have been on. But yeah they were also good a little before that as well
@Wilytics ahh my bad misunderstood the time frame

Some of that lavish spending was on Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor who are extremely important to the Mets organization.
@@BrettTheJet86 They also paid Scherzer and Verlander 43 mil per year. Even after trading them, they were still on the hook for 50+ million dollars.
@@fr2ncm9, true. Stearns is doing well so far. Got rid of them for some kids with talent. The future is looking brighter for the Mets.

This almost feels like the approach that the Guardians use to keep competing as well.

How do you use the video without getting flagged???
Did you say at the 7 second mark Young never played for the rays?
Technically, he’s correct. He played for the devil rays. Not the rays.
@@paulnota3672 he came back in 2013 when they were the Rays

I wonder if they invest more in the minor league player development area than most teams and that's where a lot of their revenue goes

The AL East doesn’t get their proper respect. Even our worst team is a serious threat
Some how Delmon Young is still 29

Isn’t Morel on the Cubs?
no he got traded to the rays at the deadline as part of the issac parades deal
Hey Pittsburgh Pirates watch this
Making the playoffs 5 times isnt impressive? Am i supposed to believe any opinion after hearing this one?
It IS impressive, that is kind of what this whole video is about...
