Signing Pujols to that massive contract when he was nearing is mid 30's was just stupid. Pujols,Trout and Ohtani should of been a legendary trio. Plus Trout is looking like Griffey Jr out there as durable as a wet paper bag.
I was told by many salty Angels fans that Ohtani took the easy way out by signing with the Dodgers. That Trout was loyal and is willing to put in the hard work to make the Angels relavent. No, Trout is just stuck because of Moreno. Ohtani left because he knew just how pathetic this franchise is
lol he gave the angels the option to match 700 million lol. It’s fine Arte has money to spend in the next three offseason and high draft picks for a already young team.
Actually, Trout isnt stuck because of Arte. If Trout today wanted a trade, theres 29 other teams that are calling. Trout was the one who signed the extension and wanted the no trade clause put into his contract. Nonetheless, if he wanted out, im sure he’d get his wish. But yes, Trout is loyal. But its not because hes stuck. As it looked, Ohtani wanted to stay with the Angels as he doubled back to see if they’ll match after the Dodgers offered their contract. Arte just did not want the deferred contract like Ohtani wanted.
Well put together. A topic well covered but you managed to bring up points that are not often brought up - like their mismanagement of the minor leagues and the lack of production of players outside of Trout & Ohtani. Subscribed!
We won the world series and then got bought by one of the worst owners in baseball and have been getting worse ever since... until Perry Minasian came. We have quite a few talented young players and once we get out of Rendon's contract we can improve significantly. FYI-There is something wrong with that field, injuries have plagued us since 2016 and I am wondering if after years of supercross and monster truck shows they did something to the field.
In reference to the comment @ 6:18, every other team in MLB expected the first 5 players in the list to experience a severe drop-off in performance. Arte Moreno simply didn't have a clue. However Moreno isn't the worst owner or the most hated, John Fisher has that 'honour'!
As a Seattle Mariners fan I take offense to any other claims of worst MLB franchise other than the Mariners. I don’t care what franchise did to screw up, the M’s have screwed up their entire existence. That is all.
A clueless owner with a lost GM is why people around here are hating the Angels. Used to go to about 5-7 games a year but last year, only a game. Crappy stadium with over priced food and drinks for a team that may be slightly better than a minor league team just doesnt excite me. Oh yeah, parking is expensive as well. I also hate the new name LA angels of Anaheim as well. I guess i dislike every move the angels has made in the past few years.
Ohtani won a World Series with the much better Los Angeles MLB team (actually, the ONLY Los Angeles MLB team) in his first season away from the Angels. The Angels should just liquidate.
Real smart move NOT trading Ohtani last trade deadline. I'm sure the Dodgers would have given them a truckload of prospects to have him a bit earlier. Moreno should seel as soon as possible. He has made the Angels into a joke.
In baseball, even if you have 2 great players, if the last man to take the mound is a blowpen, you will lose. There was also a game in which Shohei scored 8 RBIs by himself and still lost. (The next day, he started, had 13k, and the team won.) Lineups are similar to multiplication. Even if Trout or Ohtani demonstrate 2 or 3 abilities, if the next player is 0, everything will return to 0.
Good video but it seems to me like you don’t really watch/follow the angels. Which is fine btw it’s generally not a fun team to watch lol. Your take on the youngsters is a bit off base. The main young players (Neto, Schanuel, and O’Hoppe) have all been playing well, sadly especially so without Trout. You can also throw Adell in that mix too he’s just been around for a bit now. Neto- slow start but great D and his bat has been heating up. O’Hoppe- hot start with the bat that has slowed but his leadership particularly with the starting staff has showed as he’s receiving a lot of the credit for any of the positives that have come from that staff. Especially such a below average staff like this one. The crazy part is they are not the primary reason they’re losing. Schanuel- 4 months prior to him playing those 22 games you mentioned he was in college. What he’s done is pretty impressive. He needs to develop but no doubt he can play and he finds a way to get on base. Arte is definitely a trash owner who prioritizes margin to product which has definitely left the team in a crappy position. The trades last year were movable pieces Ky Bush is super low ceiling and although Quero is a stud the angels believe, and rightfully so, that Logan is a long term franchise solution at catcher. Reynaldo was solid overall and Giolito was hot trash (I can’t believe he got paid in the off season). Lastly you can’t forget to mention the place where they spent money, bullpen, has been the biggest let down. That portion deserves a lot of criticism.
I agree that these guys have all been pretty good with what they’ve been given, but I can’t help but think how much better they could be if they were given more time to develop rather than being rushed up
@@iriptide2499 I would say that is the case generally but it goes back to 1 of his other big points in that the angels organization has been terrible at developing talent. I think generally you’re 100% right. In this case tho I think the coaching staff for the big league club is the best for them. Wash and Goins working with the infielders, Enright working with young pitchers and so on.
You say that, but when will these guys get good? You're wasting their cost controlled years, when you could develop them in the minors without wasting their cost controlled years. What Angels are doing is getting them good enough to where they'll need a big pay raise to keep them, just as you start actually being competitive. IF, it works. Meanwhile, Gunnar Henderson is good in year 1 of his major league contract. The Orioles now have him for 5 more seasons at this current all star level all while they're in win now mode. Jo Adell is only under contract for another 3 seasons past this one. You guys aren't winning in these seasons as you guys are in rebuild mode. He's going to need a contract. Although I won't give you guys too much grief for this because he actually spent considerable time in the minors and deserved his call up. Detmers will be out of contract in 3 more seasons. Another reason why this strategy doesn't make sense is because you're basically not letting your organization get a rookie of the year or two (because you're rushing them). Rookie of the year awards now give the organization an extra 1st/2nd round pick. This will further boost your farm system.
@@solenstyle I’m completely good with that argument. I agree it’s not the ideal approach. I’m just speaking on my thoughts of where the angels have pigeonholed themselves into. My original push back didn’t really have much to do with where the thread has gone I was generally just disagreeing with the idea that these are bad players. I think all 3 will be solid big leaguers as it stands now, could they have been better if seasoned in the minors? Probably. But I would say it would also probably have needed to be with a different org. All these issues play into the overall disfunction of the franchise. The orioles are a great example of playing a rebuild right but if you went back in the not so distant past, this video could easily have been about them. Or on the flip just a couple years ago we would say the same about the white Sox and now look at them. A lot can happen in a short amount of time.
Longtime Angels fan here - I think the biggest contributing factor was a refusal from Arte to spend big on pitching. He'd always cheap out on the starting rotation while signing guys like Rendon, who we didn't need. I've watched this team lose games 8-6 for far too long. But the young core does look promising.
I became an angels fan very young and even tried to adopt the batting style of Vladdy Sr. The Angels I remember are long gone and I hope that maybe a leadership change will get them back on track.
I read a book that argued that the one of the worst things that happened to the Angels was the 1962, one year after their expansion year. This was the first season played in the newly opened Dodger stadium. The stadium opened April 10, 1962. The team was 86 and 76 that year a finished third, much of the season they were 2nd place. Because of that season, the team decided that it did not need to develop its farm system. The Angels have ever since had a weak farm system ad has developed few impactful players.
I refuse to call my team the “Los Angeles Angels” they are the Anaheim Angels. But I agree, and I’m pissed year after year and the ticket prices go up and the players get worse and no matter how we start, we always finish last. Get some damn pitching!!!! And a new owner while we are at it
Sign a bargain with Trevor Bauer. No cost for the cheap owner, but maybe he would have to stand up against the MLB management that have thrown Bauer under the bus. Trevor has value as a future pitching coach with his Engineering analytical mind. He could be a scout for pitching from Japan and Mexico as he is or has played as his been forced into MLB exile. He is to this day still a better pitcher than any on the present Angel staff.
Moreno… he only cares about tshirt sales, ticket sales, marketing value of the team, advertising dollars. Since Angels got Ohtani with like way undervalued price for the 6 years, if he traded Ohtani, he would lose all that advertising dollars (particularly from those Japanese firms), shirt sales would drop as well.
At least the Angels have won a World Series since 2000. A few teams like the Cardinals, Giants, and Red Sox have won it multiple times. Few have won once. The Angels have been bad but teams like the Pirates, A's, Twins, Reds, and Mets are way worse.
It's still unbelievable that Mike Trout has not enjoyed post season success. Unfortunately, his injury history is going to take some of the shine off of his career and how he will be viewed later on in history by people that did not get to see him play.
This is a great video. I believe that Ohtani was not traded as Moreno would have to have given back millions to advertisers who more than likely stipulated that Ohtani had to be on the team. Enjoy the Yankees home series starting in Anaheim tomorrow!
this market is too big for angels to massively underperform!!! great assessment by the advocate! about time we recognize. back to 1961 ; only one title got to do better
Fan since 1972. Yeah, theses are dark days but I gotta say the 70's was worse. Except for a over-the-hill Frank Robinson we had no one! We would go to the stadium on "Family Night" where any seat in the upper tier was $1 and there would be a total of 5,000 or 6,000 total in attendance.
As a lifelong Angels fan, I'm getting ready to stop supporting the team until Arte sells it and we see a massive overhaul of the front office... It's not even depressing anymore at this point... It's genuinly infuriating and I'm about ready to become a Padres fan.
And you could add to that the absolutely atrocious training department the Angels have. I believe I did a story at the beginning of last season, where I located seven top prospects and three pictures on the major league roster who all pitched through pain and needed John surgery. Two others are still recovering and won’t pitch till 2026. If that doesn’t speak for angels at the management level, I don’t know what does!
The Cleveland Indians haven’t won a WS since 1948. They choked two away when they had one the best offensive teams in the past 50 years. In 2016 they choked away a 3-1 lead and they were actually winning game 5. So before you throw the Angles under the bus Cleveland Indians fans will say hold my beer. They’ve won more championships in cinema since 1949 than on the playing field.
Cubs are the worst franchise in MLB history, and there's 108 reasons why. Sure they reversed their curse but that was 8 years ago. They've done nothing before or since then. Before Wrigley Field installed lights in 1988, the only time the Cubs played night baseball was on the road. Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, Ron Santo wasted their HOF careers playing in Chicago. They choked too many times until that one season in 2016 (thank you Dodgers for ruining the Cubs "lovable losers" nickname). And the 2nd worst franchise is located on the south side of Chicago, and no one can disagree with that
Both Chicago teams and Cleveland (three Playoff experiences from 1901 until 1994) have a lot of disappointing history between those three clubs. The Yankees had all the money thanks to being in New York even w/ two other NL clubs there to draw some fans away so for many years AL teams only reached the Series when New York had a so-so season (only 90 wins) and the old Philadelphia A's and Detroit were the only clubs who went to the Series at least twice in a row from 1920-1964 during the Yankees dominant period. But a team like the White Sox in the 2nd Largest city by population (that had a ballclub) should've been able to compete with the likes of New York and Detroit and Cleveland...but they were 2nd Division more often than not. Badly run ballclub.
When the news came out that Arte was going to sell the team, I was hopeful things would turnaround. In fact I was ready to start going back to the games. But Arte reneged and I just gave up on them. Aside from Mike Trout, I've no idea who else is on the team.
Baseball fans please help me understand . Why in the world is MLB draft not set up like the NFL and NBA where the worst team records get the highest draft picks? Angels have had terrible records for over a decade and yet they haven’t drafted higher than pick 9 since 1997! This is the problem with the MLB in my opinion. In NFL and NBA, no team could suck that long without a shot at a top 3 pick.
They had the same draft rules up until two years ago and they went down one spot this draft. Let’s not forget they’re the only franchise in MLB history to not lose 100 games in a season.
The Angels are too reactionary. When they whiff on signing a superstar free agent they want they settle for any big name left on the market. They last Greinkie to the dodgers so they overpaid for Pujols. Whiffed on Gerrit Cole signed Rendon.
I have seen many videos talking about how and why the Angels are the worst team in baseball but this one is by far the best, Explains everything in a short video. Well done sir!
It’s Arte and his president John Carpino. I actually think GM Perry has done a pretty good job considering his restraints. Arte just can’t get out his own way
"Worst Franchise Ever" is definitely exaggerated. Trout and Ohtani need to shoulder some of the blame. They only were in the lineup %48 of the time as teammates. Ever hear about the 90's Seattle Mariners who had 4 HOFs and couldn't even get to the World Series?
That's true but most of those teams haven't spent the amount of money the angel's have throughout that time handing out huge contracts for top free agents
Winning the WS is amazing. My team, the Mariners haven’t even been there, but you are blind if don’t think the Angels have issues. Since 2010, they’ve come in first in the division once and come in second only twice. I complain about the Mariners stupid ownership group all the time.
you're right it's exactly half the teams lol with 14 other teams winning a title since they last did but at this rate it will likely not hold up for much longer
Agreed, he had his chance to leave. I think maybe he likes just hiding on a team. He could just play and have zero pressure. Could walk around town and no one would know him.
"This franchise has been nothing but a let-down in the last decade." Hey, don't sell the Angels short. They were nothing but a let-down--who wasted generational talent--back in the day when they were the California Angels and were owned by Gene Autry. Some of my earliest memories as a kid growing up in SoCal were of watching Reggie Jackson and Rod Carew hit dingers for an Angels teams that made the post season, like, once in a decade. Granted, it was harder to do in those days, but the Angels always seemed to be treading water. They're the LA Clippers to the Dodgers LA Lakers, and it's somehow perfectly poetic that the manager for their lone world series title win was a guy who played his entire career with the Dodgers. If Mike Trout could ever string together more than a few weeks of playing time without getting hurt I might feel bad that he's on the Angels. But I'm sure his hundreds of millions of dollars ease the disappointment somewhat.
1) Even with Wash and EY (Ron Washington and Eric Young) coming over from my Atlanta Braves, the Angels still suck. 2) Your Right about Iggy (Raisel Iglesias), but he is doing so much better with the Braves, then he did with Angels.
Hold up on what thing though Nolan Schanuel hasn't struggled I mean yeah after his streak was snapped he was shakey but when he first got called up he was fine and to start this year he was good too he's putting it together Neto O'Hoppe Schanuel are honestly all playing solid baseball rn
The best years in franchise history was when they were the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim or just the Anaheim Angels. NO idea why they wanted to revert to the generic Los Angeles Angels moniker. The California Angels (I'm old enough to remember Nolan Ryan before he went to Houston) made the Playoffs just three times...no pennants just heartbreak. The Los Angeles Angels began as a not-bad expansion team; they even had an 86 and 82 win season in four years before changing to California. Their last season as the LAA's of Anaheim they finished 85-77. Since then NO winning records; 80-82 twice w/ Trout. Okay enough of that...they need a NEW OWNER and to go back to their Anaheim roots.
Arte with all the bad contracts aside he really messed up with ohtani.. he knew the dodgers wanted ohtani and he refused to trade him when the dodgers always have a stacked farm system and they could have got great pitchers in return. Angels could have pulled bobby Miller, Gavin stone and maybe some more pitching prospects but he refused to trade him. Dodgers money is deep and ohtani took a team friendly contract to help the dodgers cause they are in October every year. The angels had some potential with young trout, and the pitching rotation with weaver, garret Richards and shoemaker but they really went down hill since then
Bad ownership, bad team building, bad supporting cast for Trout (also Ohtani when he was there), and horrible FA…. Angels would have more coverage if they had the same level of turmoil as the A’s. At least the A’s fans know their team is gonna be awful while Angels fans keep hoping for change, but it ain’t coming any time soon
Oh it’s coming soon lol they have one of the youngest rosters in the league with another top 10 pick and probably another top 5 pick in next years draft with loads of money to spend. They’re 20-30 right now with the most injuries in the league and have lost 9 one run games and 7 two run games. You don’t think free agents and top picks can improve them lol they can also get more prospects at the trade deadline.
I would give it to the Mariners, never been to a World Series and the Reds, Never been to even the NLCS since 1990. Cannot blame Ohtani for leaving the Angels for sure!
Griffey helped improve the Mariners' fortunes. Trout wasn't able to but once and he had Pujols batting behind him. His one Playoff experience and it was in his first full season about 99 years ago (had one hit in a sweep and it was a HR.)
The Texas Rangers don’t have a glorious history. But they’re loved by their fans and we’ve had some success (three World Series appearances since 2010, with one championship in 2023).
Well if we really wanna take it back… I blame any of the 20 some odd teams that passed on Trout in ‘09 for legit career minor leaguers or starters turned awful relievers. Having said that, it’s completely on Arte for his single playoff series appearance and he deserves hard prison time because of it
The Angels won a world series in 2002 and several division titles that decade as well. The past 10 years are a small period in the Angels history and don't define who they are as a franchise. They are far from "the worst franchise in mlb history"

There are baseball teams and then there are baseball organizations and there's a huge difference.
The angels have proved that you can always find new ways of losing. Like hitting 7 solo shots and still losing to the A’s 8-7😭an all time classic
Their medical staff literally destroyed Trout and Ohtani
Elaborate please
Did the Rockies change their name to the Angels?
In reference to the comment @ 6:18, every other team in MLB expected the first 5 players in the list to experience a severe drop-off in performance. Arte Moreno simply didn't have a clue. However Moreno isn't the worst owner or the most hated, John Fisher has that 'honour'!
Two NFL teams have moved to LA with one winning a Super Bowl since the Angels last won a playoff game.
As a Seattle Mariners fan I take offense to any other claims of worst MLB franchise other than the Mariners. I don’t care what franchise did to screw up, the M’s have screwed up their entire existence. That is all.
But the Mariners GM had a master plan for the team to win 88 games within 10 years . Still no playoffs
@@conradhauser17mariners will hold that title until they actually win the AL.
yeah the title is false.. plenty of teams have been at the bottom longer than the angles.. and even more poorly run and owner not wanting to spend..
Trout only error was hindered by the bad Pujols contract, thanks Arte!
Ohtani won a World Series with the much better Los Angeles MLB team (actually, the ONLY Los Angeles MLB team) in his first season away from the Angels. The Angels should just liquidate.
Poor Trout. He deserves better than the Angels.
No he doesn’t. He’s responsible for signing his entire career away to a lousy franchise. He alone made his bed, now he gets to lie in it.
Real smart move NOT trading Ohtani last trade deadline. I'm sure the Dodgers would have given them a truckload of prospects to have him a bit earlier. Moreno should seel as soon as possible. He has made the Angels into a joke.
As long as the Angels don’t do as bad as Oakland did last season then I still have hope for the team.
In baseball, even if you have 2 great players, if the last man to take the mound is a blowpen, you will lose. There was also a game in which Shohei scored 8 RBIs by himself and still lost. (The next day, he started, had 13k, and the team won.)
Lineups are similar to multiplication.
Moreno is a fraud and unscrupulous. This franchise is a mess-- and yet there is some serious young talent in Neto, O'Hoppe, Schanuel and Soriano.
My Pirates would like a word
Atleast they have a championship same can't be said about the mariners and Many more teams In mlb history
As an Orioles fan, I can commiserate with loving a team with a shite owner. Things have changed. Hopefully, they can change for the Halos as well.
I became an angels fan very young and even tried to adopt the batting style of Vladdy Sr. The Angels I remember are long gone and I hope that maybe a leadership change will get them back on track.
People wanted the angels to sign snell and now he has a 10.00 era seems pretty smart to me
Fr but signing imanaga would’ve been huge. I’m sure they’re going to spend a ton of money the next three offseason just hopefully on the right people.
The angels have a title. The padres do not.
It's definitely an owner problem with the ANEHIEM Angels.
I don’t know what tickets you are buying but I can easily get a week game ticket for $4 and a weekend game for like $25
I still think of them as the “California Angels”. 🤷♂️

Not trading ohtani was the dumbest decision I can ever think of
Moreno… he only cares about tshirt sales, ticket sales, marketing value of the team, advertising dollars. Since Angels got Ohtani with like way undervalued price for the 6 years, if he traded Ohtani, he would lose all that advertising dollars (particularly from those Japanese firms), shirt sales would drop as well.
@@theways07 That makes no sense. Now, Ohtani is gone and he lost sales anyway!
Nothing was more delicious than watching them keep him to "make a run" and then immediately cratering.
I appreciate this arguement for the Angels being the worst franchise in the MLB, however I have a counter arguement.
The Colorado Rockies
as an angels fan what a well done video and I guess now we wait for a new owner and until then we tank 😭🤦♂️
When they rebrand to LA Angels it was the beginning of the downfall
this market is too big for angels to massively underperform!!! great assessment by the advocate! about time we recognize. back to 1961 ; only one title got to do better
Bro I'd been an Angels fan since my dad took me to see Wally Joyner. Broke my heart but I will not give Arte Moreno another dime.
Weird… the title says worst franchise but the video doesn’t appear to be about the Mets
Anaheim *** please bro
Iglesias having a similar contract with Imanaga? Talk about an insult to Imanaga. Some of those Angels don’t deserve their salaries.
Rest in peace Tyler Skaggs
2 spots*
The Angels are too reactionary. When they whiff on signing a superstar free agent they want they settle for any big name left on the market. They last Greinkie to the dodgers so they overpaid for Pujols. Whiffed on Gerrit Cole signed Rendon.
I stopped feeling bad for Trout after he turned down a trade this past offseason. I guess he doesn’t wanna win
He wants to win the hard way because of his loyalty
He said he didn’t wanna take the easy route and play for a different team because it wouldn’t feel right
I have seen many videos talking about how and why the Angels are the worst team in baseball but this one is by far the best, Explains everything in a short video. Well done sir!
Oakland did lose 112 games. Who was the last long term player to be in oakland? Even reggie jackson had to leave
Fr they talk this shit and act like the angels aren’t the only team in mlb history to not lose 100 games in a season
What was more amazing was that they technically had Ohtani almost for free for the first 3-4 seasons... 😂
It’s Arte and his president John Carpino. I actually think GM Perry has done a pretty good job considering his restraints. Arte just can’t get out his own way
The fact that Mike Trout RESIGNED with the angels is actually so, so sad
"Worst Franchise Ever" is definitely exaggerated.
Trout and Ohtani need to shoulder some of the blame. They only were in the lineup %48 of the time as teammates.
Ever hear about the 90's Seattle Mariners who had 4 HOFs and couldn't even get to the World Series?
Here’s the thing, Seattle was actually a good OVERALL team
Pretty sure they have won a World Series more recently than half the teams in the league.
But couldn’t win 1 playoff game with two of the best players in the world
That's true but most of those teams haven't spent the amount of money the angel's have throughout that time handing out huge contracts for top free agents
Winning the WS is amazing. My team, the Mariners haven’t even been there, but you are blind if don’t think the Angels have issues. Since 2010, they’ve come in first in the division once and come in second only twice. I complain about the Mariners stupid ownership group all the time.
you're right it's exactly half the teams lol with 14 other teams winning a title since they last did
but at this rate it will likely not hold up for much longer
"The Mike Trout Era began when Mike Trout joined the team."
How insightful.
I used to feel bad for Trout. Then he resigned. Now it’s on him.

Kinda wild the turn Reynaldo Lopez has made this season.
Hold up on what thing though
Nolan Schanuel hasn't struggled I mean yeah after his streak was snapped he was shakey but when he first got called up he was fine and to start this year he was good too he's putting it together

O'Hoppe
Schanuel are honestly all playing solid baseball rn
Well at least the Angels have the 2002 title
Worst all time franchise? Nice click bait buddy you must be 15 years old.
Ironically Dodgers fans find the Angels more pathetic than the Mariners. They feel the Mariners are more frustrating than pathetic.
It's such a shame that Mike Trout has all that talent wasted like that. At least Tim Salmon got a championship ring.
5 MVP’s between the two is insane
I always thought the worst teams in the history of MLB haven’t won a World Series
Wrong true angels fans love their team no matter what, going to an angel game in beautiful socal is something I wish everyone experiences
I would personally like to give my Brewers the crown of the worst franchise in MLB history. Atleast the Angels have won in the past
You guys have some potential especially with Hoskins in that lineup
Who’s worse , the Angels or the Mariners (54 percenters)?
Having said that, it’s completely on Arte for his single playoff series appearance and he deserves hard prison time because of it
Yup, tough to be a life long Angel Fan.
I agree the Angels are terrible (even cursed) but how are they a worse franchise than the Padres, Mariners, Rockies, Brewers?
The Angels won a world series in 2002 and several division titles that decade as well. The past 10 years are a small period in the Angels history and don't define who they are as a franchise. They are far from "the worst franchise in mlb history"
How is this not about the Padres? Damn clickbait title.
