I always advocate for parchment paper between paintings. It is smooth and nonstick. I also had a painting that cracked and warped because I stored it on a window sill. Moisture got in it. I’d painted it on foam board. It wasn’t complete sealed. Also if a person is a serious artist I would suggest buying a dehumidifier for the place you store your painting. It helps them dry faster and you won’t end up with accidental moisture under your top coat.

I stand mine upright in cardboard boxes with parchment paper in between each one, and place same sized paintings together. If I have large sized canvases and smaller ones, then I place the smaller one, back facing back, inside the larger one, then place parchment paper in between layers of two.

If you are in a humid area I would definitely recommend it. That little bit of separation is key. I need to make some more shelves with different ideas like this and string separators for people to see.

@@LeftBrainedArtist yes, a somewhat humidity problem during the summer with air conditioners running 24 hours a day, but mostly because my arts and crafts room used to be my master bedroom and the master bath has the only working shower (the other 2 have been out of commission for around 5 years while awaiting the funds to finish the remodels lol).

Parchment paper, 100%! It will not stick to the paintings. I even wrap my paintings in parchment when I sell them as an added protective layer before getting them to their new home.
Sometimes those dents can be taken out with a spray bottle and some water on the back of the canvas, but perhaps not for a saleable piece of work.

Been There... Done That. It's heart breaking to have a painting you love stick to another. Whenever I do new paintings I "always" try & stack them individually, if I'm out of room & have to stack them, it's back to back until I varnish.

I use the parchment paper in between paintings as well. (Not even resin sticks to it.) I have oil paintings to consider as well, painted on panels. NO touching there either. Drying time is a lot longer for oils. VARNISH THEM, WHEN YOU CAN. I TRY TO FRAME THOSE. I have already been doing the back- to- back. Resin sticks to resin, so I don't let them face each other, without leaving a space or placing the parchment paper in between them. Hanging them up is by far the best solution. Side by side is also a great solution. I also put craft paper and hangers on the backs of my paintings, so if someone comes to purchase a painting, they are ready to go. If you use something like Modge Podge you still have to varnish them, it stays kind of tacky, so you might as well go ahead and varnish or resin. Resined paintings will crack as well if you drop them, when they get too cold. This was a great video, so helpful. My husband just" thinks" I have lots of paintings. LOL Thank you, David

Learned the hard way that heat & humidity together is not good for acrylics! Had one sitting on top of another one & just like yours a piece came off front of good one & stuck on the back of the other! Now hanging them up or standing them up. In this house the walls are all plaster & it was built in 1917 so no nails Will would go in or are allowed. Ty.

Awesome tips! I think we've all learned some of these lessons the hard way. Most of us, if we are lucky, have a designated room for painting and materials but I would assess that it's rarely climate controlled. My studio is a double bedroom on the south facing side of my house with 2 massive windows. When I'm not in there the ac isn't on but the fans are always on for air movement. I run a hepa filter, large one, to help pull chemicals from the drying paint out of the household air. I have every wall in my house completely covered with finished works🤣

My experience is that 'parchment paper' on pouring paintings can also leave traces after a long period of time. I refer to the term 'ferrotyping' in that context. I am also struggling with that storage issue for pouring paintings on (yupo) paper. Does anyone have useful storage tips/solutions for pouring paintings on paper? Thanks a lot, Phil

@philcoucke5459 I haven't been painting lately (nor have I checked in on my stored paintings)... 😑😔
      Just wondering:
      1. What does "a long time" in your post refer to? 3 months? 3 years? 10 years? Ect
      2. Have you experimented with "butcher paper" to see if that fairs better?
I look forward to seeing if you get some more comments with other suggestions on what folks are doing regarding better storage!

@@TrinaRaysTrekofLife hello, in my case I checked my varnished pouring paintings on yupo paper after 1,5 year, and the parchment paper left a kind of imprints on the paintings (I havent' used butcher paper yet..), I wrote to the guys of Liquitex & Golden, and they called that problem 'ferrotyping', one of them advised me to use special 'silicone' paper instead for storing poured paintings. I tried silicone paper but I'm not very fond of it neither, as that kind of paper also has a sticky feeling/effect. So indeed, besides storing my paintings in devices with compartiments of two, I don't have a real good solution for paintings on paper however, as I find it space consuming to use racks with trays, thanks however for this interesting feed, grts ph.

Blooms with House paint for me just can't be stored in more than one layer. Do you have a varnish review video by chance? I loved my gamvar varnish and did about 100 paintings. Then spring hit and it melted to a sticky mess so I had to slowly remove all the varnish and replace with liquitex. My latest bottles of liquitex are acting weird and cloudy. I wonder if there is an easy to apply varnish like gamvar that isn't sticky in humidity and has uv resistance.

Varnishing them is perfectly fine. Some mediums never get fully hard. I would varnish the back sides to so you cover up that tackiness.

Hi great tips thank you so much.
I have a question I stacked my paint pours on top of each other and yes you guessed it they stuck together.
Is there any way of getting the bits of paint of them or have I ruined them ?
    Total newbie to acrylic pouring

There really isn't much you can do once that paint has stuck to each other. Maybe heat it up a TINY bit with a hair dryer then use some tweezers to gently peel it up.

@LeftBrainedArtist ok thank you. I'll give it ago and fingers crossed it works, if it doesn't well I'll just have to do some more paint pouring

Did you cover it with glue.? Or was glue and water your medium ?

Hi David. It is terri again. I have another question. I got a big canvas picture from a neighbor I don't know if it is oil or what not, can a person do a acrylic paint pour over it in the future 🤔

If it is oil, you need to put a finish/varnish over it. Then you absolutely can. Just make sure the sufrace is clean.

It happens. That just means you need to pour more and make a new favorite Veronica!

Why do you have so many paintings that are stacked in your house? Sell em', give 'em away, or slow the heck down! Geez! 🤨😂

Time. I am dedicating the little time I have to this to either learning or to making videos. One day I'll get a website setup to sell. I do also give a lot away already.
