The Volvo p2 platform can be made into a track god. Many people underestimate these cars. I love these Volvos, possibly the best modern Volvos ever produced. Everything about them is close to perfect, in my opinion. The quality of the interior and the quality of every single plastic bit is superb. Thank you Misha for posting this video, made my day.
It can. i have one. But in stock trim its way to hevy and soft for a good track experience. But after upgrading the chassie And taking almost ALL of the interior out, + switch to lightweight seats and some good wheels it transformed the car to be a good track car.
My dad has a V70R of this generation and it's great. Love the sound and power. These cars are really close to perfect. They would be perfect if they didn't have a turning radius of a container ship.
I’ll be coming back to the ring in July with my V70 T5. Running less power than this example but on Coilovers with good alignment, stripped interior and a big oil cooler. Fancy a lap?

Too many people think a car is garbage past the 100k mark. With good maintenance all modern cars (lets say year 90 and up) can last for a long time without becoming too unreliable. Of course, things start changing once you start tuning, modding or skipping maintenance. That is when cars become unreliable.

Maintenance is the thing. Change the fluids on schedule, change the parts when something starts to act up, take care of the car. I've got 285k MILES on my 2004 S60R, mildly upgraded... this year we've driven 2000 miles through the Ozarks (major failure, the new cv halfshaft I installed just prior to trip had the bearing slide up the shaft in spirited driving, which caused power to no wheels... took an hour on the ground out front of the shop we found to get it slid back in, and we were back running - 640 sleeve retainer on that bearing, and it hasn't moved since) The OTHER trip we took was from here to the Black Hills in South Dakota, and over to Devils Tower in Wyoming - total trip 3000 miles, only failure the entire trip was the 7 year old battery died on the 4th of July - we had to get a jump start, and ended up being the last car through before the parade started in Custer, SD (heading to Rapid City to get a new battery, fixed before lunch) - it was really fun driving through the downtown, with the crowds on each side, so wife and I just waved at everyone... heheh I'd jump in the R tomorrow and take another trip like that... that car is just that bulletproof.
Fantastic video! That's actually a facelift T5, which has the legendary 2.4 B5244T5 engine. Arguably one of the best engines Volvo made, forged from the factory but being a 2.4, means it has thicker cylinder walls and can take over 400hp even on the stock turbo, as it runs the same large K24 turbo as the R model. There's even guys in Sweden running the same engine in drift cars with over 800hp on stock internals! I myself have an S60 T5 with the same engine and transmission, putting out 340hp. It's very quick and surprises people on the highway!
Did my blue light training in one of these, a very capable car. Also surprisingly comfortable, some high speed cars, suburas, and beemers at the other end you are tired and fatigued not with the volvo.
Sold my V70 T5 to buy an S80 V8. (in the "WHEN THEY CLOSE THE TRACK" video, however much better now with upgrades) Still got it, couldn't go this spring, but see you in Autumn!
"stock" oil that Volvo specifies is a track grade oil that you have to heat to at least 180C to get it to start breaking down. At worst, put on an XC90 65mm oil cooler if you are that concerned.
I own a 2006 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD, one of the greatest automobile I've owned so reliable and fast, and I owned a lot of automobiles, that sound is awesome, Volvo for life.
I'm impressed with how well it got the power down! I used to have a Saab 9000 Aero with the big Hirsch tune (320-ish hp on the front wheels), and it would spin the wheels if you looked at the accelerator wrong, let alone on any kind of moist surface. Last year before antispin as well, and with a solid half second of turbo lag, before it suddenly kicked in and torque steered.

2.4 T5 B5244T5 M66 is 260hp from stock. No way this v70 is 400hp watching it looking slow compared to my car. I've got S60 T5 same engine and box B5244T5 M66 only 130.000km from new. Further modifications: TME downpipe with 150 cell cat TME 3" stainless steel Cat-back exhaust Do88 intercooler with silicone hoses (OEM size) Pipercross air filter in R-model Intake housing Green injectors from R-model KKK 24 Turbo from R-model Custom Map (1,1 bar/ 16 psi boost) R-model front brake calipers with Brembo rotors and pads
Makes me feel good about my 98 v70glt 5 speed swaped, I can go double the yellow signs (USA roads) through all corners I've tried. Rebuilt the motor ar 210,000 miles and now it's at 230,000 handling all my abuse. Had the head and block machined so I should have more compression than stock, really makes it fun with a 5 speed and muffler delete.
This car is so much not made for racing. Still, it performs really well and the engine noise is superb. It sounds like half a V10, for far less money than a full V10. What else do you need?

Have you ever driven the 21-23 Hyundai Sonata N Lines? I have one and it feels pretty good handing and power wise. The stock brakes probably wouldn't hold up though.

The only bug problem with these cars is in the transmission. The angle gears can't handle more than 350-400hp. The shear off leaving it front wheel drive. Had a silver S60 R 2005.

It's not the rack, but simply the wheels. Camber,toe, etc.

As long as the oil temp is controlled stock oil is often the best. Thicker just circulates worse and cools worse

you need to press DSTC 5 times to turn it off Completely. if you press it 1 time it turns it to Reduced mode. Try a S60R on the track :) Or V70R

As for the PS5 - I have them on i30N, great for daily driving but on the track they overheat easily, seems the compound is too soft for track use.

I've always wanted to know how a V70R would fare on the ring. I guess this is the closest we will get.
The R will probably handle better but that T5 will pass it like a rocket on the straights.

I think it is the same engine as my s60, the B5244t5, good engine this. I have got 298000 kms right now, hope to do a lot more.

Misha when you say bad alignment you mean the wheels ? or suspension ? i didnt know you could align the suspension if thats the case
The wheels, he asked about suspensions because when you modify the suspensions you need to refresh the alignment also.

to be fair, the entire subframe of the front wheel/strut assy is BUSHINGS, squishy bushings everywhere, volvo wanted comfort, not track-car
I have solid bushings on the front subframe
the streering in these is so indirect as it can be. almost 2tons of swedish steel aint helping it either. :D

Great cars, i miss my T5, 22 yrs old and on its origional battery, i only replaced 1 coil pack in 13 yrs and 40km miles, mind it ate brakes for fun.
No way a battery lasted for 22 years...
@@Jack-qn4vt And why not ? just because we accept the junk produced these day's dosnt mean everything was always junk, used regularly a battery will keep its plates free from corrosion and will last.

It's actually not that bad, a bit unreliable in the corners, but the brakes are good and it develops speed quite well.
Still on stock suspension, just with bilstein b8 on front, and the rear still the factory ones with 300k and they are already dead after this trip (6k km done)
